Never done this before
Michelle stepped cautiously into the big wide room, many people were practicing their dueling techniques. She looked above to see floating candles, no matter how many times she saw them in the great hall and around they never ceased to amaze her. She walked silently past the pairs of people, to a large dueling dummy. She took out a book and her wand before placing down her bag. She flipped quickly through the book to find something to be used, she wasn't looking to harm the dummy just to practice her offensive and defensive spells.
Michelle stopped when she spotted a good one to practice, this might help in case of danger with another student arose. She grabbed another book from her bag and walked to the dummy pulling its arm up she placed the book in it's hand and walked a few paces away.
She glanced down at her book and studied the incantation and the movement before looking up and focusing her mind. She began to move following what she had just read and spoke the incantation "Expelliarmus!" she believed she had said it right but she put too much emphasis on the end, what a silly mistake. A light appeared out of the end of her wand but died out and she inspected her wand, just then the light reappeared and her wand flung out of her hand hitting her in the face, she fell back on her butt cradling her forehead as her book and wand dropped beside her. "Ugh... That is the second time I've been hit in the face with a wand..." She groaned and thought back to the train, before shaking her head and looking around. She prayed no one had seen that.

Isabella stepped into the huge room and dropped her bag of books on the ground with a huge thud beside her. A few close-by students stared at her strangely, as if she was breaking some sort of rule. Which she probably was, since Isabella never really bothered with reading or following rules. She made up her own.
Isabella pulled her wand, walnut, with unicorn hair. She flicked over a page in her book and whispered it quietly under her breath.
'Expelliarmus' she whispered.
Isabella stood in front of one of the practicing statues, a fake wizard with a wand held in one hand. As the fake wizard's hand began to rise, Isabella raised her wand and cast the spell.
'Expelliarmus!' she cried.
But it did nothing. The statue stood there, just as before, with the wand still in her hand. Isabella looked around, hoping no-one saw her. Thankfully, no-one did. But on the other side of the room, she saw another first year, with brown hair and blue eyes. The girl cast the same spell as Isabella had, and she caught herself watching the girl with interest. Maybe this girl could help her. But, just like her, the girl was blown back by her own spell. Isabella bit her lip, thinking. This girl might not be able to help her, but maybe they could help each other.
Isabella walked over to the girl and smiled in greeting.
'Hi! I hope you don't mind, but I was wondering if you could help me with my spell? I can't seem to manage to get it right'

"Hi! I hope you don't mind, but I was wondering if you could help me with my spell? I can't seem to manage to get it right," Michelle looked up to see a girl with red hair smiling above her, still on the floor, she quickly got up and brushed herself off while smiling pretending like she had meant to be there. "Yeah, we can try it together. It might be better to practice with a real person anyway," she stole a look at the dummy with a book in its hand, it sat there mockingly from being untouched, "I'm Michelle by the way." she brought her attention back to the girl.
Michelle grabbed her book and wand off the ground and flipped to the page where the spell was. "So... I think that last time I may have pronounced it wrong. Do you know what you did wrong?" She looked expectantly at the girl. An important skill to have in life was to be able to spot what you've done incorrectly, it was a skill her parents had worked to make sure she had. Any time she was doing something and it hadn't turned out quite right they would ask "What do you think you did wrong?" and make sure she figured it out, the skill was very good for math problems and presented itself useful for magic too.

Isabella let out a half-hearted smile and felt her stomach squirm. She probably got everything wrong if this was like all those other times when she had practiced. She had never been good at learning spells. But the weird thing was, as soon as she got the hang of them, they came easily. No, that wasn't true. She knew that Michelle was right when she was asking what Isabella had done wrong. After all, how can you fix a problem when you don't know what to fix? There had to be something she had done wrong when casting the spell. And thinking back to when she was casting the spell, it seemed obvious. She had flourished her wand like a sword. Unlike Michelle, whose wand moved up and down gracefully when casting a spell. The loud voices of other students swelled up in the air and Isabella fought over the sound.
'I think it's definitely the wand movement for me. How do you move your wand?'

"I think it's definitely the wand movement for me. How do you move your wand?" Michelle nodded and passed the book she was reading over to the girl. The book had a small picture of the wand movement, it looked like a slightly slanted lower case b but instead of stopping at the line it continued and became a swirl. "So it will look like this..." she trailed off as she showed the movement using her own wand. "Alright, I'll try it again, tell me if you notice I'm doing something wrong." She asked if she messed it up again this time an outside eye could help identify what went wrong.
Michelle stepped away from the girl and faced the dummy. She stared it down and held her wand tight, she was gonna get it this time she felt it. She closed her eyes for a moment clearing her mind and then opened and began the wand movement. "Expelliarmus!" she was sure she got it right this time. A scarlet light shot from her wand and made its way towards the dummy, the sight of the spell working made her lose her focus a split second.
The light collided with the dummy but instead of the book launching away it gave a sad little jump out and onto the floor. Still, Michelle felt excited that it had worked even if it was only for a second. "Did you see that?! I did it! Kind of." she exclaimed but trailed off slightly at the end. "The flop at the end was probably my focus..." she murmured to herself before looking at the girl who was watching.
"Alright now you try!" Michelle motioned for the girl to give it a go.

Michelle lowered her wand and turned to the girl who was talking to her. Didn't she see she was busy? "Hi Makena, I don't need help, I was actually helping out my friend here." she smiled politely at the girl holding back an eye roll and gestured to the girl she was helping learn the spell.
Michelle flipped through the pages of her book and looked back up to Makena as she asked her about her book. She gave a small look of annoyance, they were in the dueling club, what did she think she was reading Peter Cottontail? "The standard book of spells. It's a school required book." she gave the girl a tight smile and continued to flip through her book.
Michelle wanted to continue to work on Expelliarmus since it was not at it's best and stepped away from the girl headed to place the book back in the dummy's hand.
She walked back and took a deep breath focusing her mind, pushing the thoughts of all the others in the room and the girl beside her out of her mind, and she began the movements and the incantation. "Expelliarmus!" a scarlet light shot out of her wand and went for the dummy, this time she kept her focus after seeing her success and the light connected with the dummy sending the book flying high in the air.
Michelle pumped her fist in celebration, "Yes, that was a good one." she thought back, could she have done anything better? Probably focus faster, she would be no good if it took her 15 seconds to group herself.

said the girl with a smile but Makena could tell when somebody was annoyed" I don't need help, I was actually helping out my friend here"
"Oh okay I understand sorry to bother you I was just offering" she replied getting quite annoyed as she was just trying to help out. Then Makena asked what book she was reading trying to be polite.

"I was only asking because I couldn't see the book and was trying to be nice."
"But okay I get it your annoyed I'll leave now" said Makena as she was about to turn around she whispered under her breath but she said it loud enough so the girl could still hear her "I thought Hufflepuffs were suppose to be nice" she said as rolling her eyes.

"Oh well done, I guess you didn't need help" said Makena as she twirled a strand of her hair around her finger. Then Makena walked away and grabbed a dummy putting it next to the girl she was just talking to pulling its arm up and placing a random book from her bag into its and and started casting spells some with the dummy other just with her wand. It was quite obvious Makena was annoyed by this girl and she wanted to show what she could do.

Michelle could tell the other girl was annoyed with her and for a split second she felt bad, she normally was nice, she didn't know what happened to her. The need to be right overcame her sometimes and she hated when someone underestimated her. She glanced at the girl sideways and held back a smirk."Oh well done, I guess you didn't need help"
Michelle flipped through her book looking for more spells to work on when the girl she previously had talked to began firing spells willy-nilly, probably to show off. She shook her head she wasn't going to be sucked into a feud of some sorts, she didn't care if the other girl knew more spells, the only thing that mattered to her was that she was getting better and learning more.
The constant sound of the other girl's muttering and spell casting was causing some difficulty to focus and her face screwed up in light anger. She tried to cast the Wand-lighting spell, it was important to know, but her focus kept being pulled away from her, must the Gryffindor girl be so loud and obnoxious right beside her. She stood up huffing and paced, pacing sometimes calmed her down and helped her focus.
She took a deep breath and tried to cast the Wand-lighting spell again, this time her wand lit up and she smiled triumphantly. It was a miracle she actually focused, with the Gryffindor girl beside causing so much ruckus.

Makena could tell she was annoying the girl beside her and felt bad since she did get annoyed easily and she realised she was being quite obnoxious and a showoff "Sorry if I was distracting you I'll be a little quieter" she said with a slight smile showing she felt bad. She saw the girl trying to do the Wand-lighting spell Lumos and then she saw that her wand lit up and she smiled triumphantly "Well done again I'm sorry I just get annoyed quite easily but it shows your a great wizard if you can do spells even when you have me being rude next to you... I really am sorry not a great first impression from me" after she said this she awkwardly chuckles to try and lighten the mood she did want the girl to apologise as well but she decided to just let it go and not to cause anymore hassle with her. Makena did quieten down and concentrated more with her spells as she had been trying so hard to make a full body patronus instead of just the light. "Expecto Patronum" she said but nothing she looked down upset but kept trying and she was hoping she wasn't annoying the girl still.

Michelle smiled and shook her head, "Thank you and it's okay, I really wasn't the nicest either and I'm sorry. We should probably start over. Hi, I'm Michelle." she was happy that Makena apologized, mostly because she hated apologizing first but also because it gave Michelle some insight into her character."Well done again I'm sorry I just get annoyed quite easily but it shows your a great wizard if you can do spells even when you have me being rude next to you... She turned back to her book noticing that her wand was still lit she looked for the reversal spell. She finally found it, Nox seemed easy enough. She practiced the movement and the incantation separately before attempting it in full. Her first try nothing happened but the second time she was successful.
Michelle looked up to see Makena trying to practice a spell. She listened in to hear the incantation and searched for it in her book. It was the Patronus charm, a very difficult spell that most learned in their fourth year. It protected against dementors, whatever those were, and required one to think of their happiest memory. When she didn't get it right Makena looked down so she decided to tell her her findings.
"Hey, don't be upset, you are trying to do an extremely hard spell. Most learn it in their Fourth year. See look," She handed her the book the page was on the spell's page, "and it requires someone to think of their happiest memory, most people never know what it is." She smiled hoping the girl didn't take it as Michelle trying to be smarter than her.
