October was now over the castle and it was raining most of the time. Mary was really enjoying her classes, learning new things, but also having good time with her friends, mainly from the same house. Unexpectedly this Saturday was sunny, it was not summer hots but still better that they had during the week. The black haired girl decided to enjoy this day outside the castle and after the lunch she went to the grounds.
She looked around, she could see the Quidditch Pitch on one side, the Great Lake on the other side. Closer to the castle where the greenhouses in which she attended to her Herbology classes. She could also see the entrance into the Forbidden Forest but it was dark very quickly and nothing could be distinguished. She didn't really wanted to go to the Great Lake, kind of afraid to fell in, and there was no match nor training at the Quidditch Pitch so there was no point going there.
She finally decided to just walk around, and maybe if she finds a spot she likes she would stop and read a bit, she had some research to do for her Defense Against the Dark Arts homework. She passed a roses copse when she hit something, almost falling. She looked at what it was but it was actually someone, her cheeks becoming red.
"I'm so sorry! I had no see you. I'm really, really sorry. I hope I didn't hurt you?"

Horace ,the wandering wizard, as he started calling himself as he roamed around the castle looking for new places and people. This time he decided to go out of the castle to relax in the nature as it was a nice sunny day. He brought his book 'The Dark Forces : A guide to self protection' it may not fit with the theme as he was surrounded by natural beauty but he didn't consider knowledge to have a theme.
He found a nice spot beside the roses copse and sat down with his book and started reading intently. He was busy reading when he heard something and before he could react a girl just kicked him. 'What a fine sunny day' He thought to himself as he stood up to face the now apologizing embarrassed girl. "Its ok no problem.......happens" he said with a smile trying to comfort her. "Anyways what are you doing around here?" he said as he noticed some book in her hands "Why don't you join me? Come sit" he said with a smile as he gestured the girl to sit with him. "Oh and where are my manner I am Horace.....Horace Vargas and you?" he said with a soft giggle as he sat down again.

Mary was relieved to see that the boy didn't seem mad at her for kind of kicking him. Actually he seemed nice, making sure she didn’t feel too uncomfortable. She thought she had seen him in a class or two but never had a chance to speak to him. She noticed he was reading his book of DADA, maybe he was working on the same homework, after all they were same years student. After he introduced himself she decided to do the same. “Nice to meet you Horace. I’m Mary, Mary Swan. And I just wanted to enjoy the sun before the rainy days of autumn.” She accepted his invitation and sat next him, she could smell the roses and she really loved that smell, she thought she was back in her parents garden. “Well to be honest I should be doing some research for my DADA homework, but with this sun I don’t really feel like working.”
She knew that with October bad weather was coming, and even if she grew up in England and was used to it, she was no very fond of it. She preferred snow by far. But with autumn was coming Halloween, one of her favorite time of the year so she was not complaining that much. But for the moment she wanted to get some vitamin D, after all she could still do her homework tomorrow.

Mary sat next to Horace as she started talking about the sunny day and how she didn't feel like working. Horace totally agreed with her on this it was a fine day indeed. "Well if you need me i can help you with your DADA homework later! What do you say?" Horace said smiling at her as the warm sun made his white face glow even more.
Horace was actually happy to have someone not that he felt lonely before silence is a companion itself but even so he would prefer humans sometimes over the silent wind and grass. He thought all this as he plucked some grass and started fiddling around with it.
As he was laying back on the ground playing around with the grass his innocent face suddenly lit up and he sat up "Hey how about i teach you some spells? they would help you a lot i promise!" he said excitedly Horace liked to do spells he loved any classes at hogwarts that were for spell casting transfiguration,charms,DADA all of them. The subjects he wasn't so good in were of course the ones without spells like herbology,potions,etc and he was straight up terrified of flying.

Horace offered his help for homework but she had a feeling that he was feeling the same as she was about doing them now: let's enjoy the weather and worry about homework later. She smiled to the boy "Thank you Horace, I'll make sure to find you if I need some help, or even if one day we have some group work to do, maybe we could to it together."
She was just sitting in the grass when Horace who was lying sat just like he would have been hit by something. He excitedly ask her "Hey how about i teach you some spells? they would help you a lot i promise!". Mary didn't know what to think about this proposal, of course she wanted to know more spells, her parents always refused to teach her anything about that saying she would have plenty of time to study them once in Hogwarts. But on the other hand she didn't know if they were allowed to. Maybe they could cast spells only in classes or duels club? But when they had to practice a spell so that they manage it for the next class, it was outside of classes, so it was probably ok as long as it was nothing dangerous.

Horace was happy to hear that Mary was actually interested in trying some spells. He didn't much chance to practice spells out of classes. Though Mary stated that they should not try any dangerous or forbidden ones.
Well Horace didn't have to think much of it as he didn't actually know many dangerous ones himself but being more of a duelist sometimes his usual charms became dangerous without him trying to do so. "Well i'll try not to but you know spells sometimes go wrong. I once tried to make a dead tree in my garden to grow new leaves and get better you know. .....well it did get better a bit more than expected actually it grew knew leaves stood up and walked out of the yard while i was just standing there jaw dropped.... " Horace said with a grin.
He was feeling a bit playful his eyes glinted as he saw a dying flower "well lets try that again and wish that this flower won't get alive and eats us both" he said chuckling as he pointed his wand towards it. Of Course he wasn't gonna take any risks but he just took an opportunity to taunt Mary and enjoy her reaction.

Mary was relieved that Horace had no dangerous spell in mind. Actually she could help and started to laugh when Horace explained what happened with the old tree he tried to bring back to life. It reminded her the time when she was little and had no control on her magic and saw a dead bird in the garden, and spontaneously daises started to pop up from the ground around the animal, making him a nice place to rest.
He then offered to try again this spell on a flower next to them and Mary was more than willing to learn this spell, and well regarding what the boy had described, maybe the flower would grow big but it shouldn’t turn into some wild animal. “I would love to learn this spell, I don’t think I know it. And let’s live dangerously! I’m not afraid of flowers.” She replied and smile to the boy. She was not completely sure that he was making a joke but thought so and decided to pretend maybe it could actually be dangerous.

Mary laughed at the story about the tree and didn't seemed afraid about the effects of the spell. And when Horace tried to tease her by threatening to try the spell on a flower she instead seemed happy to do so. Horace was now reluctant about this himself as he thought maybe Mary would stop him but turns out she is more daring than he thought. Well he wasn't gonna back of now after all whats the worst that can happen.
"Well then if you say so. Lets do this!" he said as he focused on the flower trying to do his best at not screwing this up. "Herbivicus" He calmly whispered trying to be focused as a green light shot out of his wand. Nothing happened for the next few seconds as they both stared closely at the flower closely. But as they were beginning to lose hope the flower bloomed with some glitters all over it. "Look! i did it and it isn't....." He was cut off as the flower grumbled and grew big now it looked like some kind of a monster.
Horace jumped away pulling Mary with him as they fell a bit away while the "flower" tried to get them. At a safe distance the flower didn't seem to be able to do anything apart from flinging around wildly. Horace looked at Mary with an awkward embarrassed smile "....well at least it doesn't have legs so thats better right?" He said as he got up and pointed his wand at the thing "finite!" he commanded as the effects of his spell went away and the flower became back normal. "You still wanna learn this spell from ME? i hope not..." He said with a giggle.

Mary didn't know which reaction Horace expected because he seemed a bit surprised by her telling she wanted to learn this spell. He cast the spell on a flower just next to them. At the beginning she thought the boy failed it since nothing was happening but after a few seconds the flower started to grow. The black haired girl was amazed by it, but then it started to become kind of monstrous.
Horace was probably as much surprised as she was since he jumped away from the reach of flower which now looked like some carnivore flower ready to eat the first person passing around. He had pulled Mary with him and she was glad, because she was astonished by what she was seeing and couldn't move. Horace was joking about the fact that the flower didn't have legs so they were safe from its reach. Mary couldn't help but started to laugh. It was a nervous laugh, not because she found it that funny, but mainly because she was relieved that nothing happened to her.
Horace addressed to her "You still wanna learn this spell from ME? i hope not..." Mary thought about it for a second "Well at least if my brother is making some prank about me I would know how to scare him a little bit. But I'm not sure this is what this spell is about."

"Of course not do you really think i would make a monster knowingly it was just not what i intended." Horace smiled as he adjusted himself properly after the sudden jumping. "Actually this spell is to make the plants grow and bloom magically basically its just for gardening. Kreffent taught me about it when i saw him use it in our garden often. Though i am just not good enough to do it properly just like most of the spells he taught me." He said thinking about his home again.
He usually never thought much of his family he was more than happy living at hogwarts but when Kreffent was mentioned he did miss him a bit as he spent his whole childhood with him while his mom and dad were busy working.
