Cade kicked at a tuft of grass peaking from between two bricks on the ground. He sat with a hand to his chin his lips in a tight smile. Rosie was very passionate about the Mango Space Wizard series. However, he didn't agree with her views on Finn the evil star vagabond. Cade thought the alien to be a quite good adversary to Mango, always one step behind! Apparently, that wasn't enough for Rosie. Cade said nothing, not wanting to voice his own opinions and potentially be rude to his guest. But then the subject changed rapidly and Cade could breathe again. He was delighted that Rosie's family were bakers as well. No wonder Peggy knew of the Willews and Lady Aithne. Cade was looking forward to trying the soda bread that Rosie so aptly described.

The subject once again dissolved into family and soon Rosie questioned his sister. Cade realized his mistake in bringing up the little girl. He remembered Peggy telling him her situation was private. But he didn't see a problem in describing the girl to Rosie. He didn't have to talk about her affliction. Cade found his eyes trail up the wall of his home and to his sister's window.

"My sister is Astrid. She's..." He didn't know how to go on. "She's a wonderfully bright eight-year-old. Very fun and witty. She's not an introvert like I am. Astrid is very bold, sometimes it seems like she never has a filter. She'll say anything she wants and not care what people think. She wants to see the world and do everything all at once. She looks a lot like Peggy, you know, big eyes and long hair. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to join us today..." Cade found himself trailing off looking into the sunlight with a wistful glint in his eye. He wondered what life would be like if Astrid wasn't always so ill all the time. What new interests and hobbies would she busy herself with? Would she stay around the house or spend all her time outdoors? He supposed things would be a little different. "Astrid will attend Hogwarts I suppose when we enter our third year. Maybe you'll meet her some other time. I'm sure she'd like you." Cade cleared his throat. There was a slight pause and Cade managed to kick the tuft of grass out of place.

"Ravenclaw house seems decent. You would do well there. As for me, I dunno... My mum was a badger. And father was in Slytherin. I reckon I could be placed anywhere. I wouldn't mind any house, really." Cade shrugged and looked over to Rosie who was still standing closeby.

_Oh._Cade tongue seems to get stuck, or better, something in him got stuck for a moment. Maybe that was what Lady Aithne was talking about, "personal reasons" sounds like such a secrecy, and although she was immediately formulating what could be behind this, she stopped herself. With the tone and shadow that went across Cade's eyes for a second she knew that wasn't something she was supposed to be circling around. His introduction left room to imagine she was great and loved but had a wall surrounding her. _She seems to be someone I would like too. Don't forget to tell her about me then._And Rosie walked back to where Cade was standing, distracting himself with a tuft of grass that could not be that interesting. _So your parents don't mind? My family is also kind of mixed in houses, I guess that's why there's not much pressure. Lady Aithne tho, she does have a preference for Slytherin._And she smiled, hoping to change the subject. It was a common thing after all, for pure blood families to have a tradition in some houses and have some houses in higher regards. The fact that Cade's dad was a ministry man from Slytherin, and his mom a baker from Hufflepuff, that was a fun balance, wasn't it? Maybe they weren't that severe. _So I assume there aren't many wizards living around here. How do you play with muggles? I have met some, you see I have to keep reminding myself they are not a subject of study and also that I can't just say anything around them._Cade seem like the type to like muggles, not only did they both enjoyed muggle culture in books but also in that muggle neighbourhood. She rested her hands in her suspenders while looking around when her eyes focused on below the parlor window, to see dittany herbs, a little contrast to other flower choices for the garden. Rosie's eye weren't that keen on potions since she would never practice, however, a thought ran through her mind to look that up after. Dittany is also a muggle plant, can be easily camouflaged, but wasn't that the plant used for restorative and healing? Even applied in wounds? A little shiver down Rosie spine took place, dittany wasn't also used in werewolf bites? NO, STOP IT. That is the thing with mysteries isn't it, even when it has nothing to do with you, you keep wandering about it, as if is unavoidable. Rosie felt stubborn and disrespectful, secretly conspiring what was going on, when it could be something much more simple, like a cold or even chickenpox.

Cade stopped fiddling with the grass and looked over at Rosie. He was grateful she chose to change the subject. She seemed to know just how careful to be when mentioning Astrid. His sister had a pretty dark past that even Cade wasn't over. Furrowing his eyebrows he tried to think about the Hogwarts houses again.

"Right. Well, my parents don't really care about which house I get sorted into. They were in completely separate houses when they met. I suppose they only mean for me to be happy. Privately, however, I think they want me in one or the other. But I can't see myself in any one house!" Cade bit his lip, getting a little over-excited thinking about which house he would end up in. Before thinking about it he didn't much care, but now he was feeling a bit nervous. What if he was a hat stall? Father had told him about the sorting and how long it could take. Cade chuckled now, feeling a bit foolish. That was all ahead of him. He shouldn't worry about these sorts of things until it was about to happen.

Rosie once again changed the subject, steering it towards the neighborhood. Ottery St Mary didn't have a lot of wizard families. That much was true. Purebloods were especially rare in town, preferring large country manors. Cade always used to wonder why the Darkbounds chose to settle here and not in London or in a bigger house, they could certainly afford someplace nicer. His parents never gave him a clear answer and Cade never questioned it further.

"Growing up around them, you get quite used to their ways. Some days I forget about magic and the differences between us and them. And other days it's difficult to stop me from staring." Cade grinned remembering going to the sweets shop with some muggle chums and being confused about the currency. He had nearly pulled out gold galleons to pay but was saved by their guardian who insisted on paying. "Muggle boys love playing Rugby and something called a Playstation. Rugby is a fun sport, it's a pretty brutal game. Lots of tackling and tossing of the ball. I often came home caked in mud and bruises. Mum didn't allow me to play after I broke my arm and introduced me to quidditch instead, insisting that I should play a sport of my own world. Quidditch is great too I enjoy watching the games.

"My muggle friends invited me over for another game called Dungeons and Dragons. This one was played at a table and ran solely in the brain. It's so clever how they come up with games. These people aren't so different as you might expect. They are just a little more complex."
Cade trailed off remembering his closest muggle friend, Thomas, explaining what the Wizard class did in Dungeons and Dragons. Cade remembered trying to keep a straight face and deciding to leave early, left a very bewildered Thomas behind. He didn't visit again for a week before coming back with a completed character to play that was far off from the 'magic' elements of the game.

Rosie did not have enough mental notes on Cade to be sure of a house, the obvious would be hufflepuff or ravenclaw, but the hat was never obvious like that, that's why it's sorting is needed. She simply nodded, still wondering if he would have a deep preference for any. Personally, she felt very distant from Gryffindor, but who knows she might be the most honorable of all.

It was rare to leave London, especially using the funky floo powder, Rosie thought about having a regular suburban life in a simple town, even one surrounded by muggles like this, would she be very different? It was of no purpose to be nostalgic about a mom-daughter life she barely ever had, so her mind just moved straight to picturing her and Aithne's house kids all there in Ottery St. Mary, she could basically amount to the same person. Cade stated he got used to it, sometimes forgetting about the difference, sometimes always awkwardly staring; which was a pureblood mood to be honest. _This one time I pretended to be full muggle for a whole day. I think she bought it. I thought I would see no muggles where we went, this isolated part of Cornwall, and apparently a girl showed up there I just started lying._It was true muggle humans were very huge on technology, she couldn't see the appeal of most things, but it would be natural to assume they would get bored with their world from time to time. Can you imagine? No unicorns? No fairies? No charms?

_I keep myself away from the broom. I'm sure I'll be made fun of in Hogwarts for that. Is not for myself, mostly I'm scared of losing control and bumping into things or other people. I like watching quidditch tho, I'm for the Kenmare Kestrels because otherwise my grandma would give up on me._ Hum...Dungeons and Dragons? Table and on the brain? _How so? Do they have a table to show their brain? With no rules they just come up with things? But who knows what's going on?_ It was an absurd idea, certainly Cade got confused. Muggle humans can certainly be more complex, which is a paradox since there is no reason for them to complicate a life made up upon rules of numbers. Although physics is definitely necessary, how do they only fly with those giant machines based on physics? Physics can be worse than the hardest of the spells, that's for sure._I heard saw they have a game similar to gobstones, but the little stones don't do nothing. I don't get it._

Cade's eyebrows flew to his hairline. Rosie had spent the day with a muggle and pretended to be one of them? "And Lady Aithne let you do that? That's wicked!" Cade never really lied to muggles before, they just assumed that Cade was one of them. Albeit strangely peculiar. Nothing came up out of him hanging out with muggles so his parents allowed him to mingle. They always viewed Cade to be very slow when it came to operating technology. In truth he was! He never had anything like that at home so when Cade did hang around with them, they cracked jokes about how he resembled their gran. The muggles all seemed very interested in what they called the telephone. Always tapping on the glass and taking photographs with it.

Cade didn't voice this particular memory, for Rosie went onto discussing Quidditch.

"Kenmare Kestrels is a fair team." Cade nodded a little impressed. It made sense for Rosie to like them now knowing that her family is from Ireland. "The Wimbourne Wasps are my team. They did so well when Ludo Bagman used to play for them. I've got my very own Wasps jumper in my closet. I pull it out on occasion." Cade smiled happily thinking about the last Wasps match he saw.

Rosie seemed very confused about Dungeons and Dragons. "How so? Do they have a table to show their brain? With no rules, they just come up with things?"

"Well. Not quite. It's storytelling, really. So you make up what your character does and the Game Master will determine your character's chances with dice. And everyone goes around that way reacting to the encounters that come around during the adventure. It's not very visual." Cade paused in thought. "However sometimes, there can be maps of the location on the table." Cade looked at Rosie now. She explained another muggle game that was similar to Gobstones. "That sounds a little dull... why don't the stones do anything?"

Cade got up and munched on another biscuit he'd saved. It was his last one. He considered going back into the parlor to grab another but that would subject them to more questions from the adults.

"Would you like to see my bedroom? It's not much but I can show you my books?"

_Absolutely no! She got extremely disappointed, that I lied that is. Lady Aithne likes muggles. She does not mind us observing them and stuff. _ For Rosie it was ordinary, most interesting was her ability in playing the role of a convincing muggle. Although, she was starting to get a feeling of this traditional value Cade's family might have. Traditional to the point where bloods should not mingle.
For a moment Rosie thought "Thank Merlin I'm a pure blood." And this was a unsettling thought to have. She did not knew. But made her uncomfortable. So she cleared her throat to continue. _A wasp jumper? No way! That must look out of character. Like a crossover episode for you. I need to see that. If I will have a say on the subject I'll have to say....Appleby Arrow's colors are prettier._ And started laughing waiting for the Darkbound response. For an actual fan to hear such outrageous manifestation..._For me is about the fashion of it all. Don't take it in my soul._
As the boy explained the so-called game of table, Rosie figured it was like playing "Once Upon a time", only what you could make up is for your character and also determined by dice. _I see...I see...._Rosie stroke her long imaginary beard. _I could do it. Definitely. It's like theater. I can imagine things, no need for a lot of visuals. Are you sure this is a muggle game?_Rosie already started plotting ways to play it, but as a witch and along with other wizards they could make it such more interesting games, little characters that could walk, like in wizard chess! The possibilities of it all.
_I do not know what is fun about it. Stones doing nothing does sound dull. What I can say is we refine games, poor them, we should let them have at least gobstones, tell your father to vouch for it._
As Cade offered to let Rosie see his room her eyes flashed with attention and curiosity. _Yes!_ The books! She looked at the house, then back to Cade, then back to the house. _Your mom won't dislike me for it, will she? I can't be considered nosy._ On the other hand, he would not on purpose set Rosie for bad lighting, so if he offered it was probably okay. Yeah, maybe Peggy Darkbound did not mind brilliant polite people with suspenders going upstairs.

"I reckon if anyone is to get into trouble it would be me. We're here to become friends right?" Cade said as he led Rosie back to the door. He took one last look around the cheerful garden and spotted a gnome sticking his tongue out at him. Cade scoffed and opened the door walking quietly down the hall. The wood-paneled floors creaked slightly under the dark green runner in the hall. Cade peeked into the drawing-room. Lady Aithne and Peggy had their backs turned to the door and were now admiring the armoire. Cade was always scared of that particular closet. A boggart appeared within it four years previously and assumed the shape of a fully turned werewolf.

Cade continued down the hall and up the stairs. He heard Rosie stepping quietly behind him. The upper landing was dimly lit, the only light was spilling from Cade's bedroom door which hung ajar. Cade opened it further and let Rosie step inside first. The room was taupe in color with green curtains. There were moving photographs of Cade and his sister on top of his dresser from which an old sock hung out of the top drawer. Much like a tongue hanging out of someone's mouth. The hardwood floors were dark mahogany, stretching out beneath them. Two windows looked out on the muggle street below, bringing in enough light that Cade had no need for his lamps. On the wall between the windows mounted a bass guitar. Below it rested a large amplifier. Stacked upon that were various pages of bass clef sheet music. Besides his twin bed (currently unmade) was a large bookcase where Cade kept all of his collected books.

Cade threw another blanket atop of his bed and sat on it his back leaning against the wall so it became somewhat of a couch. "Go ahead and take a look. It's a great collection don't you think?" Cade looked eagerly for Rosie's expression. He was very prideful of his collection and was excited to show it off to another avid reader. Rosie was the first friend he had that knew about his wizarding world literature.
