2020, Stage 1 Group B: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw

Katrina saw that she had finally, finally cast a spell that succeeded. Now, it wouldn't be long before Ceylenne was knocked out. All Katrina had to do now was get a hit or two to the both of her opponents and she could win. As long as her dodging held up.

Katrina centered herself again and saw that Calanthe was frozen on the ground. What was with her opponents and that spell? Whatever, now she just needed to make a decision for her next move.

Three spells lit through the duelling stage though only one of them found it's mark. Both Miss Walker and Mars T'ien were off with their aim and their spells harmlessly went over their targets' heads. Miss Gray on the other hand, despite having to deal with the strong urge to sneeze, managed to keep her cool long enough to successfully blindfold Miss Walker.
There was no visible change to Miss Choi, so the poor dear must still be paralysed. Zahid was just a tad worried about her ability to breathe properly, being paralysed with that nose.

Even as she felt the next sneeze coming on, Cel grinned in satisfaction as her spell hit its mark, conjuring a blindfold around Katrina's eyes. Good thing her aim had been true, the dinners passed perfecting aim without messing up wand movement in classrooms, firing knockback jinxes at vases, had been well-spent.

Mars had missed again, just barely—oh, well. Their opponent had been quick to dodge so far. Thankfully, though, they hadn't gotten hit, either, the spell sailing wide, and Cel thanked the fact that Mars had been good about avoiding the attacks so far. Calanthe, too, still seemed to be frozen, which was great for them, but she wasn't sure how long that would last—long enough, she hoped.

As long as she could last until they had an opening to attack. She could feel the cold getting worse already, and there was no way that Mars would be able to survive against two opponents without her, as skilled as they were. "Come on, come on," Cel muttered under her breath, and nodded towards her partner, raising her wand again.

Mars couldn't help the delight that sprung to their face at the next moves. "Yes, Cel!" they called.

My gods, it was brilliant being on her team. Mars grinned as they followed the beam's trajectory into Katrina's face, thick black blindfold spread over her eyes, forgetting that their own spell had shot wide. It didn't really matter anyway; they'd managed to sidestep the Gryffindor's returning cast once more, so effectively, the two spells had cancelled out. If you took into account Cel's success and Calanthe still collapsed on the floor... well, what was there to complain about?

Figuring it was alright to turn their eyes from the Gryffindors for a moment, they glanced over at Cel with a smile.

"Probably shouldn't get cocky but..." Mars gestured to the other side with the back end of their wand, "We're doing good, no?"

Pivoting again, they spun their wand back into proper grip, wood firm against their cold hands. If wands had feelings, if they somehow possessed personalities, they wondered if it was having as much fun as they were, bouncing from hand to hand, twirling carelessly before coming up to fire spell after spell. It was childlike playfulness, the same tone they adopted around their brothers, that made them feel powerful and excited and incredibly free.

Mars tossed it up again, footsteps loose and light. It was like a game, misleading and flirty. They grinned, even if neither of their opponents could see it. One more piece, one more push, and one step closer.

Paralysis and a head cold were terrible pairings, Calanthe surmised. Unable to feel the release of a mere sneeze, the young witch spent the round cursing out the older raven in her mind. The girl was surely talented, and an absolute nightmare to deal with. The adrenaline-fueled strength that afflicted Calanthe in one of the previous rounds abandoned her in this one. Her only consolation was the older raven's bogies condition. She hoped Celynne was enjoying it just as much as her.

This was a pain, yet again her spell failed. At least it was only a matter of time before Celynne passed out. Then it would likely be one on one. If she lasted that long at least.

Katrina poised herself for her next action when suddenly the world went black. Her first insict was darkness powder, but then she felt the ripple of fabric on her face. Seriously? A blindfold?! Katrina glared through the fabric and got set for her next action.

That was some rotten luck on Miss Walker's part. She managed to remove the blindfold taking her sight just in time to see the shine of spelllight and in an instant, her sight was once again gone. What must make the experience even more disorienting, she was also hit by a second spell, making her stagger for half a second before bursting out into a bout of tapdancing.

Miss Gray and Mars T'ien had timed their spells perfectly it seems. That had been some well enacted strategic casting, Zahid had to tip his proverbial hat to the move. Miss Choi on the other hand, managed to free herself from paralysis though she was probably feeling utterly horrible at this point as she immediately let out a sneeze fit to wake the dead.

Katrina ripped the fabric off her face and nearly screamed when yet again she was blindfolded. What was wrong with this duel?! It was going nowhere and she was loosing. She had been practicing and preparing for such a long time and she actually was in a duel and was failing!

Katrina stumbled to the side, loosing her balance and then suddenly her legs were moving and she was dancing a tap dance. Katrina wanted to explode, or hide in a hole. She was dancing in front of a real life crowd! There were people WATCHING HER DANCING. She was thankful that the blindfold was likely covering her cheeks because they were bright red.

The sudden relaxation of Calanthe's muscles would not be enough for the girl to feel satisfied. Almost immediately after breaking free from the effects of the paralysis curse, she released a sneeze of proportions that quite possibly were never seen or heard before. Staggering upwards, she righted her position and held a shaky arm forward with her recently retrieved wand in her grasp, pathetically aiming it at her opponents. Through cloudy eyes, she could not tell what was going on with her partner. To say the young witch was having a terrible time would be an understatement.
