Staying in Touch
Rose was sitting cross-legged on the edge of the fountain, hunched over a book in her lap. It was a novel, a longer one, and the fourth book in an amazing series. It was written by a muggle, so it wasn't exactly accurate with how magic worked, but she thought it was super cool anyway. She was almost finished with it, as there were only a couple pages left, and she was absorbed in the world. She had also brought out some chocolate sweets, which she let linger in her mouth as she read.
She was wearing another of her comfortable sweaters, which had become a staple of hers during the colder months.
And finished the book. Dang, it was an amazing book, ending perfectly but still open for a fifth book that she couldn't wait for. She closed the book, putting it beside her on the fountain side, right on top of the other book Aldor had given her a while ago- she was going to return it to him today. She brought in and let out a happy sigh, stretching and cracking her back.
She was meeting Aldor here today, but since she had been so close to the end of the book, she had come ten minutes early so that she could finish it. He should be arriving soon, not that she was impatient or anything. He wasn't late, either, since Rose had given him a super vague time. "Around eleven in the morning."

Soon enough, Aldor could be seen walking towards the fountain, keeping the same calm smile he always had. It was strange, Aldor smiled even when he was not feeling alright, maybe it was a good thing, maybe not, whatever it was, it didn't matter, yet, it gave Aldor a very gentle look.
Over time, Aldor had slowly managed to be fine with hugs and having people near him, now he can even talk without stuttering as much as he used to, he was happy because of this, he would hate to not be able to have any physical contact with the people he cares about.
As soon as he noticed she was there, he waved at her, slightly concerned that he might be late, he recalls that she did not specify at what time they should meet, but he hoped he did not make Rose wait. Something about her made him feel happier than when he was with other people, maybe it was just that Rose actually cared for him, and somehow, he could feel that, even when she didn't say it every single moment.
There were many things that Aldor wanted to tell Rose, usually he is not up to speaking, but today seemed like a good day to actually try and talk with his very best friend.
All of this thoughts went by like the wind that blew against his face, throwing his hair in front of his eyes, soon he was already standing near his friend, and couldn't do more but greet her, and smile.
"Hi- Rose, am I-I late?-"

As soon as she spotted Aldor, a grin appeared on her face. She was really glad to see him. "Hey," she said, getting up to give him a hug. It was a brief hug, as she remembered the way that he had scrunched himself up at Halloween, the last time she tried to hug him. Maybe he was feeling overstimulated that day, or maybe he was just that kind of person that didn't like hugs. Maybe she would need to stop it, which would be fine with her. Anything that made Aldor comfortable. "How are you?"
He then asked if he was late. Rose shook her head. "No, you're not. I'm just super early. I was reading my book out here, and came like ten minutes earlier to finish it. Oh! Speaking of books-" she went back over to the fountain, pulling the book out from under the finished novel. It was Aldor's aunt's book. She held it out to him. "I finished your aunt's book. Next time you write to her, tell her she's an amazing author and the book was very informative and super fun to read. Though I can't say I'm surprised, as she is the one who raised you." She shrugged, adding, "Not that I needed a reason to see you, but I thought that I might as well give it back to you since, well, it is your book."
She cocked her head, wondering, "How is your aunt anyway?"

Aldor would do his best to hug her back, it was clear that he was still a little but uncomfortable, but not as much as the last time.
"I am alright- just a bit sleepy, how about you? "
Aldor would let out a sigh of relief as she told him that he was in fact early. His eyes would inspect his surroundings as reached back to the books on the fountain, While this happened he took his time to think about the last few days, even though he felt that he had many things to say to Rose, he also felt that nothing exciting had happened lately.
His eyes widened as she gave him back his book, he would smile softly as he thanked her, he would also listen to Rose, as she kept speaking about Iphiane.
"I will do my best to remember-"
Then, she asked something that Aldor was not expecting, he would stop to think about it for a bit, trying to give he ebay answer posible.
"My aunt is alright- she has been writing to me a little more often, last time she wrote to me was yesterday- I actually have the unopened letter with me- "
He would open the other book he was carrying, taking out his aunt's letter, he seems to use anything that fits inside the pages as a book marker.
"I can wait to open it, of course, I just wonder what it is about- last time she just wrote to me asking me to send a letter with greetings towards the women who visit her every once in a while to play board games or just- drink tea, apparently they miss me"
He would let out a quiet chuckle, as he looked back to his friend.

"I'm alright, thanks." Rose did appreciate it when people asked her how she was. Even if, deep down, she was scared they didn't care anyway and were just being polite. But she knew Aldor did care. He looked around, taking in his surroundings, becoming comfortable with the courtyard.
Then, apparently, she caught him off guard by giving him the book back and asking about his aunt, so she let him take his time answering. "Aw, that's good." Her gaze fluttered to the unopened letter in his hands, curious about what could be in there. "I'm sure they do miss you a whole lot," she commented at his telling her about the ladies who would come visit his aunt. She imagined him kicking adult butt at board games and chess, and him sipping tea with these grown women, them interviewing him about girls in his school. Rose smiled to herself. "I bet you had a lot of fun with them."
She went to go sit down on the edge of the fountain, patting the spot next to her to invite him to sit."Open it," she suggested, leaning closer so she could read over his shoulder if he let her. Then, blushing and pulling herself back, she realized how rude that was. "I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to. And, if it's like, personal or something, you don't have to. I don't wanna butt into your private business."

Aldor seemed happy, even though his friend wasn't too specific with her dwellings, he was glad that it was at least 'alright'. He slowly thought about what she said, thinking for a good answer, this was one of Aldor's main qualities, he always thought too much before doing or saying anything.
"Yeah I guess they do miss me- Since I never spent time with other people, I usually preferred to be with them, listening to stories or just hear them talking about anything that they felt like telling me- It's sort of fun. Well, it is until they start asking about who I like, last time they wrote a long letter with a few lines for each one of them, all of them decided to ask me about girls and it was- uncomfortable to say the least."
It is actually true that Aldor did have a fun time every time his aunt's friends showed up, they were kind, and to him, they were part of the family. But it was also true that he wasn't exactly great at expressing feelings, so far, he hasn't found anyone that he specially liked.
Soon his mind drifted into another thing, as she suggested to open the letter and quickly apologized for her reaction.
"I mean, I don't really mind if you read It- we are friends after all, right?"
He would slowly open the letter, getting a bit nervous as he unfolded it, realizing it was a bit long. It was from Iphiane, as expected, it said:
"Dear Aldor, how have you been doing? I read your last letter, I'm glad the you had fun on Halloween, I was really worried that you decided to not go, but now I am so happy that a friend invited you! I hope I can meet said friend some day, I can't wait to thank them for being so nice to you. Speaking of friends, they keep asking about you back home, they want to know if you are finally falling for someone and if the friend who invited you for Halloween was a girl, you know how they are, always trying to know more about your life in Hogwarts! I hope you can write back soon, with love, your aunt Iphiane Humbleglow"
Aldor would let out a quiet sigh, as shy smile and a very light blush showed on his face, he only told his aunt about someone inviting him for Halloween, never mentioned who they were, he knew that if he said it was a girl they would never stop talking about it, but also he knew that he wouldn't have to mind, he didn't like Rose that way.

"Oh, I can only imagine how uncomfortable that was," Rose commented. She knew that he must have squirmed reading it. Really, he was only eleven or twelve. He wasn't falling in love or anything yet.
"Of course we are," she murmured, without thinking about it. Of course they were friends.
She peered over his shoulder as they both read the letter, Rose in her head. The letter left them both blushing. Rose had only invited Aldor because she thought it would be fun for the both of them and she enjoyed his company, not because she was trying to be nice to him or that she had a crush on him. "Oh, she's never gonna let that go, is she?" she laughed, only imagining how spunky Aldor's aunt and her friends were, compared to quiet, subdued Aldor. "You can tell her we're just friends, though she might not believe you." She didn't like Aldor that way. She thought he was an amazing friend, not someone she was romantically interested in.
"It would be fun to meet your aunt someday, though." Just thinking about it, it sounded really fun. Maybe to meet up sometime during the summer, see his house and all his books, meet his aunt. Maybe go out somewhere, though Rose didn't want to overwhelm or overstimulate Aldor. Rose had a theory that seeing where someone lived- their house, their room, their favorite place in the world, and how they acted there- told you a lot about who they were. That was so cheesy, but it was true.

Aldor couldn't do more but let out a quiet sigh, he seemed a bit uncomfortable about this situation, he was a bit concerned that Rose would be feeling the same, he knows his aunt can be a bit intense, but the last thing he wants happening, is making his best friend feel awkward.
Even though he was almost drowning in his worries once again, he made himself calm down by reminding himself of what she said, 'of course we are', maybe she said it without thinking, but he is sure that she was being honest.
"Nope, she'll never let go- Maybe one day she'll get over it."
He seemed to sound a little too honest on that answer, as if he expected it to never happen, maybe it was just that Aldor did not feel confident about himself, or because he simply did not care about that. He focused on another thing as he listened to Rose saying she'd be happy to meet his aunt.
"Oh, she'd love being with you, she has a strange addiction for being an amazing person towards everyone, but trust me- She would go CRAZY if a friend of mine came back home with me "
He would stay quiet for a bit, thinking of another thing to say. Nothing came up, except shame.
"I'm sorry- about the awkwardness with my aunt's letter, I wasn't really expecting she came up with that-"

Rose shook her head. "It's no problem. You can't control your aunt." Her smile remained warm, she wasn't fazed at all by the awkwardness of the situation. She was glad that his aunt did care about him. Aldor did deserve more loyal friends anyway.
"Oh, I was gonna ask you- When's your birthday? I would feel horrible if I missed it and didn't get you anything." Knowing he was probably going to ask back about hers, Rose said, "Mine is during the summer. August 2nd, 2008."
Some of the saddest things ever, Rose thought, was someone not knowing their own birthday or nobody realizing it was their birthday. Rose was the kind of person who would stay quiet about it, as if testing her friends if they knew when her birthday was. If she even had a birthday during the school year. Normally she spent her birthday at home with her siblings and most of the time her mom. But Aldor probably never got to spend his birthday with his immediate family, which sucked. Rose had often wondered why Aldor's family didn't like him that much. Was it because he was a wizard? Or because he was different? Either way, Rose thought that was so unfair.

Aldor would take his time to answer this last question, still holding the letter tightly, he usually never spoke about this, to be honest, he never really cared, his birthday wasn't exactly special for him, it is true that hid aunt always did her best to arrange something for him each time his birthday came by.
He would turn to Rose, trying to keep smiling, he was clearly quite unsure of what to tell her, for that same reason, he simply said the first thing that came to his mind.
"I am not a fan of my own birthday- There's nothing wrong with it just- I usually don't pay much attention to it, well- of course, I don't really pay attention to anything-"
He would clear his throat, remaining quiet again, forcing himself to finally say something, even though, he was basically whispering.
" November 21, 2008- that's it-"
The other reason of why he did not feel like talking about his birthday was how soon it was from happening, not having many friend made him a bit terrified of the idea of someone else than his family knew when his birthday was. For some reason, he felt bad when he received attention, usually he thought that it would be a waste of time for the person who decided to take the opportunity to be with him.
Whatever it was, he would try no to think about it, it didn't matter what happened, he knew that Rose would not judge him, or at least he hoped so.
