Nico got pissed, and that feeling started to creep from her, a feeling she had felt from so many before her. Kae, Arc, Lana, and many others. The feeling she had heard affected people differently on different levels, and for Santario, it was like a hand of shadows crept up the side of her body, leaving a trail of cold wherever it had touched. It slipped in between her ribs and wrapped itself securely around her heart, squeezing. Not enough to cause pain, but enough to get the heart racing, adrenaline flowing, and what should have been the fear to run, but Santario usually ignored the last part. Even when something changed inside of Quinn making him rage against Erin she still didn't run.

Instincts made her eyes change direction towards someone beelining for her. Her silvered eyes landed on none other than Illowy. It was clear why the girl was not in Ravenclaw as she bulldozed into the situation without using an ounce of intelligence to read it. She hoped Illowy’s strat for duelling was much better thought out in the future. “No Magnard, what needs to stop is your Precious cousin torturing a child three times smaller than him with no provocation other than being alive. And on more than one occasion. What needs to stop is him attacking people for no other reason than following nuts and bolts around like a lost puppy dog. I, along with a Prefect, are defending people who have been wrongly attacked. If you care about him so much, then get him out of here while you are both still conscious to do so. We have more important things to worry about in this school like hags rather than nuts and bolts guiding your cousin with a leash and using him to attack people where his snout has no business.” She actively tried to dodge Illowy’s spell attacking her served Santario no purpose, especially if she could make her see the truth and just get them both to leave.

“Save him from his current path while you still can Illowy, because eventually if left unchecked what’s inside can’t be stopped, and you’ll be the collateral damage and for what it’s worth... I don’t want to see that happen to you.” Santario remembered well a beast taking someone over during the summer. She remembered how his kick felt, how his fist connected with her jaw snapping her head to the side so violently she thought it would leave her shoulders. She remembered the taste of the copper and how hot it felt when the taste streaked across her face. She remembered foolishly thinking that her friendship was enough to bring him back and make it stop…

The fancy Zorro felt annoyed with the whole situation, on another day they would of watched quietly at the chaos unfolding or even participate in it, but this time they just wanted to dance. Jay wondered what they had done wrong in life to be left alone after offering to dance so many times. As they slowly walked away they caught sight of Rook, was the crazy girl his friend? Or perhaps even girlfriend? Perhaps they should say hi... No, that was a bad idea. Jay then quickly went into the dancing crowd before they got themself into any trouble.

Now the real question was where is Lana Monet? Is she still dancing with that silly boy or had she died from boredom? Jay tucked in some loose green hair behind their ear, their hair was certainly much shorter than in their first or second year yet it would still go into their eyes and such. They looked around at peoples outfits, a lot of them were rather interesting... A good handful of twelve and eleven year olds looked like bright coloured cereal boxes with glitter, like, why would anyone want to wear that? Their favorite outfit out of all of these people was probably Lana Monets, it was a large trench-coat and it looked quite fitting for her.

Jay then wondered why they were struggling to find a girl in a trench-coat amidst these fancy dressed people.

Iris noticed how bizzare Lamik was acting, but brushed it off. Perhaps it was just a trick of the light. When Lamik leapt at the opportunity to dance, she allowed herself to be dragged into the dance floor. A smile found it's way onto her face and Iris brushed her purple dyed hair out of her face with the hand that wasn't in Lamik's hand. Her hand was in Lamik's hand. Iris contained her squeal. This was also the first time she had held a boy's hand.

"No, I have no clue how to dance," Iris laughed, "I suppose I can figure it out as we go?" The music was dramatic, but Iris wasn't sure if it was slow enough for a slow dance or if that required asking or what. To be frank, she had never even thought of herself as someone who would dance. Now that she was standing here, she was realizing just how inexperienced she was.

Instead of leading a dance, Iris allowed herself to go along with whatever Lamik decided. Besides, he had been eager to come out onto the dance floor, wouldn't he like to choose? The novelty of it all was such a good feeling. The adrenaline and the apprehension and the nervousness all wound itself into a tight ball of excitement. There was nothing that could ruin this moment.

Angel smiled at him as he explained that it wasn’t Durmstrang that taught him to dance, which she assumed. She had meant because if he went to Durmstrang, he must be a pureblood, and no pureblood family allowed their kids to grow up without learning to dance properly. While Angel wasn’t a pureblood, she was still half-blood, and she had still been raised under the same guidelines, so she knew how it went.

While the scream had caught her attention, it had taken Angel a little longer to realize that people were fighting, how she missed either a giant of a student or a professor in a fray she did not know. When Milo whispered into her ear, she nodded and allowed him to lead her out of the ball. Her hand went to the secret pocket in her dress that held her wand. “I think that is for the best, yes” While she made a big deal about Santario being inadequate, she still paid attention to her warning even if she had thought it was nonsense in the beginning. That was when it struck her, seeing that dress in the fray as she made to escape with her date. The silver-eyed girl that looked so similar was her cousin, and it only took her seeing a spell cast to know it was her. Santario practiced insufferably while at home, and Angel would recognize her stance anywhere.

But none of that mattered, Angel was not a caster, and it would seem that her date had the same idea. Time to leave before things got crazy.

Fuck.

Is he incapable of staying in his own lane and not making things worse? Clearly, he is."Damn you, Knight!" The blonde yells to his retreating back. Coughing up some smoke, she shakes her head. Clearly, this group has some intense issues and her involvement seems to be doing nothing whatsoever to help.

Walking back in the direction of her date, Amara hears her little cousin calling out to Percy. Heading over to him, her gown sweeps across the floor in drama, her heels click to the floor in melody with the now faster-paced music.

"She can explain what is going on." Amara sends a kind smile to Johannes and attempts to explain some of this chaos. "Basically some people decided to start getting into a fight, most likely to do with hags or something. All I tried to do was calm them down, but it clearly did not work."

Taking in a breath, Amara looks around to see what else is going on. Why did she insert herself into that fight, there was no reason too. A finger absentmindedly rubs itself around her Viper brooch. Maybe it was to prove herself? Her first duel is tomorrow and maybe helping her co-captain in a fight would make her feel... better? Whatever, it does not matter. All that matters now is keeping those she cares about safe.

Parties were a waste of time. Noah had grown up and been to a few because of his parents dragging him to them but he never saw the appeal. Of course it didn't strike him that been the kid sitting around alone and grumpy was obviously not as much fun as talking to old friends and having a good time. Perhaps it was his nature and the fact that he didn't know anyone, or perhaps it was his stubbornness in refusing to accept parties being fun, even I don't know which one it is really, maybe both?

For better or worse this carried over to his life at Hogwarts. He didn't attend as many parties, it was rather good to have the choice of not going but he wanted to grow up and stop being childish, this was a formal occasion, not some fun trip like the last ball he unintentionally ended up in. Did this make him want to be in it anymore than before? Not really but he had to get used to it if he wanted to grow up.

Unfortunately all of these thoughts were occurring not over the past few days but as he was lying in bed in cold sweat, the anxiety of not going crushing him, especially when his parents had sent over the clothes he usually liked to wear to parties, not even some weird suit that he hated like every other time they gave him formal wear, that just made him feel worse about not going.

But wasn't it already quite late? It started already, walking in late would be awkward. But then again the fear was overwhelming and he couldn't even explain why he felt so bad this time. Was this what growing up felt like? Not fun, really. His thoughts just got louder, it was a pain. But maybe it also had something to do with his resolution to change this year and become more of the "perfect student", part of it was going to events like that, wasn't it?

He took a deep breath, lying around wasn't making this better. Besides, going wouldn't be a waste of time either, he wasn't doing anything. Just a way to pass the time really. Alright, yes, we're doing this. He got out of bed and changed into his party clothes, a black turtle neck T-shirt, a cream cloloured blazer and black denims, not quite a party look but it's what he preferred. His parents did send him trousers the colour of his blazer but he didn't quite like that look. Finally, he took his mask and headed towards the ballroom.

Only on the way there did it strike him that he also didn't have a partner for the ball. That was one of the reasons he used to avoid balls, he knew no one would ask him out and he didn't think anyone was good enough to be with him either. That's a joke. He simply was too shy to ask anyone, although yeah part of it was because he didn't find anyone particularly interesting. Weird how that happens if you don't ever get to know someone and think the character depth found in fictional characters exists in everyone but isn't revealed because you can't read their lives like a book. But oh well, couldn't blame him for thinking like that either, really.

He'd go to the other party but God that sounded like an absolute mess and he was not at all appealed by the idea of it, and the competition didn't have much of an advantage to begin with. So, going to a ball all alone it was.

Except the closer he got, the harder it felt to keep going. His heartbeat got quicker and quicker and the it was harder to move his legs the same way, his brain was getting clouded with thoughts and by the time the door was in sight, he wanted nothig more than to run away. He got as close to the door as he could and stopped, leaning on the wall and catching his breath, was this really a good idea?

Why was he even going there? He didn't know anyone, there wasn't anything for him to do besides sit and watch others have a good time. This was nkt worth it, like at all. God this was a horrible idea, he should go back now, yes, turn back and walk right off.

But as he tried to do that, his brain decided that actually, he wanted to go. All it really did was keel switching and making him stand there like an idiot. He ran his hands through his hair in frustration, his thoughts were far too messy for him to even begin to understand. He just kepr trying to calm it down so he could think this out rationally but it just wasn't working and God knows how long he had been standing there, yes, this had not been a good idea whatsoever.

It seemed Selim's intervention had been a blessing he had never asked for, for more reason than one. The look in Vladimir's eyes said he was ready to fight, but the need to had been cut short. He wasn't exactly happy about the likely bruise, but it was better than whatever Vladimir was thinking about. With that, Flash was able to leave the assembled group with seemingly no repercussions. It was strange, for an action that he had been told all his life to avoid, he was in no trouble and was feeling, frankly, relieved. Perhaps violence was the answer, sometimes, a little bit.

The other reason was one he hadn't foreseen, as much as he wished he could say it was part of some brilliant plan. A shot to the face hadn't just been justified and satisfying, it also made his allies come out of the woodwork. Selim and the Half-Giant appeared out of thin air, very different to the Blossom Ball where his allies had been Victor and Marion. Now, Victor was dead. Had Marion been at the ball, too? Flash didn't think to bother looking. Even moreso than with Vladimir, Flash didn't ever think Victor and Marion were bad people. Puppets, more like. Perhaps Vladimir, too, was only a pawn in someone elses' game, but Flash was getting tired of trying to untangle the web of someone with so much more power and resources than him. It reminded him of what Selim had told him earlier in the school year... he's just a twelve-year-old.

Once he was free of the feeling of eyes on his back, quite sure that even Selim's speaking of his surname hadn't roused any recognition in Vladimir in the slightest, Flash looked out into the thinning crowd. He was wrong, he didn't have to stay. He realized then that he had bound himself for nothing. No one was expecting him to do everything, in fact, he barely recognized most of the faces at all.

They were fine. Nothing bad was going to happen when there where two headmasters present, and many more professors beyond that. He should leave, his date had disappeared anyway. Likely off chasing ghosts. He didn't blame her in the slightest. They had a good time together, as much as he had hoped they could have shared at least one slow dance, or at least a proper goodbye.

Now, all he was thinking about was going to the Room of Requirement to let out the rest of his frustrations. Let everything go, instead of pinning it back, feeling like he needed to be able to do the impossible. On his way out he was drawn to the gaze of a pair of eyes that was looking at him-- Bridget. He cast her an apologetic look, genuine sadness in the eyes underneath his mask, but said nothing as he walked out the door.

Oh, the marigolds. A thought of pretty golden flowers popped into Madeleine's mind as she nodded along to Vladimir's explanation. A double meaning? Passion and creativity. But also cruelty, grief and jealousy. How intriguing. But the young girl had no reason to dig further into why he had brought them up, thinking that it was just pleasant chatter to go along with the dancing. At Beauxbatons, social etiquette was a common standard among the students, and conversation never lulled.

"Hamlet," she repeated with a nod, trying to commit the title to memory. She thought the title sounded familiar, but she doubted she had read it before. Maybe Cassanora had, and could summarize it for her at some point in the night. Their dance continued.

"Get behind me!"

That's when the punch from a random masked boy had come, Maddie had gasped, and Vladimir pushed her behind him. A chivalrous act. The young girl had obliged and took a step back from the fight, having no interest in getting hurt. Before she could recover enough to offer to grab a professor, she heard a voice behind her that made her almost jump.

"Don't worry about the girl Vlad. She'll be in the back." These words sounded so ominous to the young girl who had no idea who was speaking, but the voice itself sounded gentle. Maddie turned in time to see the one who had spoken, as the boy - or was this a man? - took her hand. Her brown eyes got wide behind her leaf mask, and her chin had to tilt up just to see who it was. He was tall. Huge really. Unlike anyone she had ever seen before. In fact, there was no way he could be fully human with just how big he was! Or had he perhaps been an unfortunate victim of a potion or spell gone wrong? The youthfulness of his features suggested he was no adult, but what was with all the facial hair?

Despite his abnormality being the first thing she noticed about him - the first thing anyone would notice really - she still thought his voice, and now the hand that held hers, was quite gentle. That's the only reason she did not protest when he had taken her hand.

"Get away from her."

Vladimir's harsh words prompted Madeleine to instantly recoil from the touch of the large boy, removing her hand from his as he went on to offer her a dance. He seemed very kind - clearly wanting to get her out of harm's way - but her date's reaction suggested that this was not the sort of boy to be hanging around with. Was he another of the school bullies? How many did Hogwarts have? And why were they all flocking to poor Vladimir? That first seed of doubt for her date had been planted, but she did not fully acknowledge it in her mind. For now, she would not abandon her injured date for a dance with the tall boy.

"I'm sorry, I can't accept. I really should find a professor-" she started, before movement in the corner of her eye distracted her. A new boy with a mask of bird bones appeared. This time, Maddie was more on edge and her hand went to the cleverly-hidden wand pocket in her dress. She wouldn't dare cast on anyone, but touching the handle of her wand was a comfort.

"Stand down, Holmwood, or I will retaliate," the bone-masked boy said after toppling the assailant to the ground. He was there to defend Madeleine's date, which she was relieved to see. She did not need to draw her wand after all. The young girl did not pay attention to the words that the assailant Holmwood offered, and instead her eyes traveled back to her date to see if he was alright. She saw the sight of blood in his mouth as he spoke to the attacker, warning him not to pick fights. She also noticed his hand had clenched in preparation to fight back, but the bird-masked boy's arrival had seemed to calm him.

"I'm sorry if this is all very confusing..." The tall boy's words captured her attention again, and Madeleine looked to him with a frown.

"It's not just confusing, it's awful," she said. She was only able to relax now because the assailant was walking away, meaning her heart had a chance to calm itself. Holmwood. What an awful first impression he had made. The first fist fight - well, an unfair sucker punch really - that she had ever witnessed in real life. And now she would likely be en garde for the rest of the night. "This is a dance, not a brawl," she said, her eyes now turning back to Vladimir. He had gotten quiet before denying the offer of ice from the bird-masked boy who had come. "Why would that boy do such a thing? Especially here?"

The four of them were now grouped together for the moment - herself, Vladimir, the bird-masked boy, and the unusually tall boy. She wondered if Vladimir would get further upset about the tall boy's continued presence, considering how he had reacted just a moment ago. However, her mind was more focused on the assailant - Holmwood - not getting away with what he had just done. "Do you still want me to go get a professor?" she asked of Vladimir, concern laced in her voice.

Hugh's green eyes flashed in surprise as the fifth year lashed out to him. Well, it seemed old offers were expired. The girl had retracted her hand, as she should, given the scene playing in front of her. It would seem she was clever enough to make her own judgement. The part-giant nodded his head towards her in acceptance and apologised with a smirk. "Apologies m'lady. Seems I'm not needed here." His gaze ran over Vladimir once more before shooting a quick glance at the two other boys standing across from them. He recognised neither of them, their costumes not helping in that matter.

Vlad was an odd one. Hugh knew this much from their little encounter in the dungeons. But it seemed he had made some enemies along the way, enemies Hugh did not need to add to his own list. There were people hunting his kind. Under a furrowed brow, the part-giant nodded to the four of them. Then without another word of sign, he turned around and disappeared further down the back of the room. Looking over his shoulder, he would check if the girl would be alright to hold her own in the conflict. Finding a professor would not help them much. They had bigger fish to fry. The politics of student drama was like the labour of Sisyphus should they seek to end it. It would go on and on and only evolve.

His eyes searched the room as he wandered around. He spotted miss Jensen dancing, she had always been nice to him. There was not much to know about Browne or Galim, the latter he would have only met had he stayed a third year anyway. He recognised the red hair that could only belong to Nico and saw Quinn suffering Erin's wrath. Yet Hugh stood still. Planted firm into the ground like a tree, he stood tall. Violence. He despised it. Deep within him a monster was waiting to roar. A berserker, willing to break bones and smash skulls. With clenched fists the young part-giant held himself back. He didn't like violence.

The punch landed. In fact, it looked rather like Vladimir had let it hit. If anything was an indication of some ulterior motive, or at the very least an intention to fight, it was not bothering to dodge a punch. There was a scream from a girl she could only assume was Vladimir's date. Bridget had taken several steps towards the action, wand in hand, too far away to hear exactly what was being said but close enough to notice Vladimir's hand curl into a fist. This was bad. If the Blossom Ball was any indication, Vladimir could take a lot of damage just fine, not to mention was more than capable of beating someone up. Flash's punch probably hurt but was likely nothing more than an annoyance. She was hesitant to do anything yet, but her mind was made up on one thing: if Vladimir swung, she was going to immobilize him.

It didn't come to that, thankfully. Instead, a boy came in between them, a boy she recognized but knew only as 'Fangs'. He was there when it happened, when Victor died, but that wasn't what mattered at the moment. Was he breaking the fight up? Bridget flinched as his foot came crashing down into Flash's side, knocking him to his knee. Was he an enemy too? Was he siding with Vladimir? But he'd straightened up and didn't look like he was intending to take the conflict any further; perhaps he'd deemed kicking Flash the best way to bring him back to his senses? It wasn't how she would have resolved the conflict, but at least it kept Vladimir from beating Flash into a pulp. She warily eyed whatever was in his hand. It was hard to tell exactly what it was, but it looked sharp and sharp things brought up too many bad memories.

Flash was walking away and Vladimir wasn't pursuing. The adrenaline that had spiked was once again short-lived; maybe that really was the worst that would happen this ball. She let her wand hand drop to her side; it looked like her intervention wouldn't be necessary. He walked past her and for a moment she caught his eyes. He looked sad, contrasting with whatever indifference he'd had earlier. And then he left the ballroom.

She paused, not sure what to do. Everything about his behavior earlier and leaving the Ballroom indicated wanting to be let alone. But what if she did leave him alone? What then? She would be worried about him but not sure how to ever bring it up. Maybe it was better to just deal with it now. Besides, he was hurt. Probably not too badly, but she doubted he was heading towards the Hospital Wing.

And what was she going to do here? She'd already been on her way out and she doubted she could spend the rest of the night doing her own thing with the knowledge Flash wasn't okay. With one last glance at the Ballroom, she followed after Flash.
