When Cade opened his eyes, they were locked with the grey eyes of Arissa! A jolt of surprise struck through him. He thought she might continue looking at Rosie. Either which way, Cade had to take his first sip. He was that much closer to taking the dare. It all depended on how many rounds they would play. Perhaps the next one would be the deciding round? Cade hoped the others were having a good time with it. And he hoped they would be merciful should he take the dare.

"MEDUSA!" He smiled. Taking up his cup he took a sip but held it in his mouth until he knew Arissa took hers. Suddenly in what felt like a large burp, Cade released a loud obnoxious cackle. He covered his mouth in shock he didn't think the laughter would be so loud. After the initial shock, he chuckled for real. Cade's trick was played on himself.

"Yes... I have infused the gilly water with giggle water. I didn't expect to be played in my own game. I can't believe you both decided to look at me this round. I would have lost either way!" Cade knew one thing, that the number of people playing affected the probability of each round. Since there were three of them and only two choices per player, people could easily corner one person, but in turn, risk sacrificing themselves. Cade would keep that in mind for the next round.

Arissa opened her eyes, and she was taken aback as grey clashed with brown. When Arissa turned to look at Rosie, she found that the girl was also looking at Cade. "Medusa to you as well, Cade."

Arissa shook her head as she took a sip . "It seemed that your fate have been sealed, Cade. It's hard being popular isn't it?" She remarked. Whatever his choice was, it would be a suicide. How unlucky, the birthday boy that is.

Then she heard a boisterous laughter to her left. Arissa eyed the boy warily." I do understand that your situation is quite humorous Cade, however I do believe that you need to take it easy. It seemed quite uncontrol-" Her eyes widen as she saw the shock flickered in the boy's eyes, and she shot him a suspicious look. "You put something in this water." The tone of finality was evident in her voice.

She clicked her tongue, as she spoke," How bold, Darkbound. Tricking a lady during your birthday, and here I thought that you are the perfect gentleman."

Giggle water huh. Quite a tricky move, but brilliant however. If Arissa suddenly laughed like Cade, it would surely destroy her graceful exterior. Seeing him fell into his own trick, her lips quirked up to a smirk.

She began to close her eyes again as Cade counted.

Cade opened his eyes and found that Rosie was once again looking at him. A great wave of dissapointment clawed at his heart. Taking up his cup once more, he sipped and let out another outrageous giggle. The ridiculousness of it eased his spirits, but he at least wanted to make the girls feel bad about going so mercilessly against him.

"Alas, it seems that I am the loser. Well played girls." Cade gave a blunt round of applause in mock celebration. But he couldn't keep up the pretense, he was back to smiling in no time. Now wondering what on earth his dare would be. He would let the two girls confer with each other. "What is it you will have me do?" He hoped it wasn't anything potentially dangerous. If it was against the rules he would have to find a loophole.

While they conferred, Cade would start to clean up plates and pack away food. He would munch on some pepper imps his father had sent him. The candies had an extraordinary effect. Black smoke billowed from his ears and nose. Cade was sure if he opened his mouth to yawn he would breathe fire. The peppermint taste proved to be a good palate cleanser. Cade waited patiently for his friend's answers.

As Arissa opened her eyes, she saw the back of Rose's head facing her, thankfully. Her grey eyes turned towards the only boy in this game, who was staring at the eyes of his fellow Ravenclaw.

Her lips quirked up to form a smirk, as she remarked, "I'm afraid that I have to agree with Miss Rosie's words Cade. You sure has the worst luck among the three of us."

As he sipped the drink that was supposed to be for his guests, Arissa's smirk went bigger, especially after he let out another boisterous laugh after that. When Cade asked about his dare however, the smirk turned into a sweet smile. Well, only the smile was sweet. The crafty glint in her eyes was as clear as the day, along with her words.

Arissa pretended to think, with her fingers playing with her hair as she she spoke mockingly, "Do be patient, Cade. I'm trying to find a good dare for you. Hmm. I'm not exactly sure. What are we supposed to make you do? Something embarrassing? Sounds fascinating." Her tone rose dramatically as she added her ideas. "Making you confess your love towards my fellow Slytherin? Or send a love letter towards a Hufflepuff? Or Gryffindor? Or perhaps should we ask for your money? Oh, no. I did not have such morbid manners to bully a boy such as yourself. Hmm. What would I do then? Do I need to ask for your ideas if one of us are the one who lose, Cade? Perhaps it's easier to determine the degree of the dare. "

She turned her head to face the other lady. "Do you perhaps have any good ideas for your fellow housemate Miss Rosie? We can simply list out our option and choose the worst of them all. "

Arissa's tone was so flippant that it's as if she merely asked the other lady regarding today's weather.

Cade nearly melted into the grass when Rosie told him his dare. He opened his mouth and icy blue flames billowed from it. He dripped his Pepper imps and covered his mouth, eyes wide. He didn't know anything about rapping. He never tried it before. Cade had read books on poetry and listened to some British grime in the past. But beyond that, he knew nothing. Cold sweat from sudden nerves started to glide down his neck. Cade knew this wasn't a serious challenge, his friends would always be there for him. However, they could make fun of him.

He cleared his throat, sure now that the effects of the pepper imps have dissipated. "Er... I'll accept the challenge, though I have never rapped in my life." He paused catching Rosie's eyes. She always carried an encouraging face but this time her eyes held a glint of mirth. He cleared his throat and tried to think of how to summarize the event in song. He would have to think of a few words that were easy to both rhyme with and would actually fit with their situation. Cade cleared his throat again and began. With every line, he became more confident. Casting away his insecurities and getting into the groove.

I have got to say it's my twelfth birthday, son!
I was sad when we begun, cuz my guest had run

bearing gifts and fun, I knew the day was won

we played a game for fun and shame, but I didn't win the trophy

Cade swept his hand through his hair trying to think of more lines. But he did what they wanted. He looked up at the two girls, proud of his own performance. He didn't expect to like the dare as much as he did. Cade looked at them anxiously dying for their opinion.

"Well... How'd I do?"

Arissa darted her grey eyes towards the Ravenclaw girl. "Extorting money? Well, it did cross my mind actually." A compulsive shopper such as her, of course wouldn't mind having additional money, just in case. However, she put it behind because if her mother somehow heard about it, her allowance would definitely be cut off.

And probably something along the lines of "What rich girl extort money from others?" It's a bit scary when your mother worked with the law. Her scolding was not involve the uses of a high pitch voice most mothers were fond of. No, she'll interrogate you with a voice as smooth as honey, but laced in poison. A psychological battle like that, was clearly not her forte.

Arissa was quite impressed with Miss Rosie's idea, actually. As dangerous as it may, it was quite brilliant. But they did settles on the safest idea for the birthday boy, and a very entertaining spectacle for both of them.

Arissa was truly grateful that she was properly trained in the art of social etiquettes from such an early age. If not, she's afraid that she wouldn't be able to stop herself from bursting into laughter after the first verse. The lyrics actually was not that bad, perhaps, not that Arissa know that much about music though. However, Cade's sudden confidence was truly entertaining to watch.

Arissa shook her head, amusement was evident in her grey eyes. 'His rapping style clearly needs improvement.'

As Cade continued his song, her lips did quivered a little, so she decides to just settle on with a smirk, in order to cover it. A smirk was a bit better than a full-blown laughter after all.

After the birthday boy was finished, Arissa couldn't help but remarked, "Well, I would say your rap was quite inelegant, Cade. Your flustered face however was quite enjoyable to watch. Be that as it may, your lyrics...fortunately was not that bad."

Arissa's talent to hold a straight face was truly something. Rosie realized maybe she was one of those people that seem closed off emotionally but deep down - deep deep deep deep down - she has fun too and also needs friends. Since Arissa was shorter then Rosie it was hard to imagine getting sad if Arissa were to be rude with her, after all Arissa was so voguish, Rosie could learn how to manage her.
Cade accepted the challenge, Rosie doubted he wouldn't, and as Rosie clapped frantically, she even placed two fingers in her mouth to whistle loudly. He didn't stutter and the level of the words was a lot better than expected. She thought it would be silly and make her laugh, yes, but it turned out to be quite surprising too. She had to know that, he was an avid reader, of course he would have no trouble finding words. _This is so fun, I didn't know you had it in you Cade!_ She looked at Arissa, she could see the blond in this small smirk, Rosie poke her slightly with the elbow, Rosie's giggle water had already wore off but this big smile was still stuck in her face because it was all so funny. _Oh c'mon Arissa they were great. Cade showed wit even under pressure._Of course she was only teasing, how hard could it be to get a compliment from Arissa? Should Rosie make out of this a goal?
Rosie was just glad the prank went well. _Now, in the future to come, neither of you should expect the dares to be as easy as this one. Cade got away with it because we are all first years. We should make a tradition out of it._ Merlin knows how quickly this can scalate in the future. _Oh well, this was fun, thanks for inviting me Cade. I was glad to meet you too Arissa._Now, of course Cade had fun and enjoyed his birthday, no need to ask that. Mission accomplished..

So the girls seemed to like his performance. Cade eyed Arissa's clear amusement, but at least she was trying to hide the fact she was dying to laugh at him. Rosie was super encouraging all throughout the song. She applauded and seemed happy that Cade had accepted the dare. Now that the whole thing was over Cade felt like he might die of embarrassment. He wanted very much to hide behind a wall and never see the girls amused faces. But knowing he had to keep it cool, Cade set an easy smile on his face.

"I'm glad you enjoyed that. It is harder than I thought it would be. Clearly, I should try to write more poetry. Perhaps I'll practice in my next letter to you, Arissa." Cade laughed, he knew how mortified Arissa would be if she opened Cade's letters to see he'd written her poetry.

Realizing the party was now coming to a close, Cade stood and gathered his things. He had loads of fun, they ate pie and had a competitive drinking game. The girls really knew how to cheer him up. Which brought him back to the ominous newspaper clipping. Cade would have to get in touch with Romah later and ask more about this accident.

"Thank you both for coming, we really must hang out together more often. It was fun!" He paused a little awkwardly before deciding to embrace them in a hug. First Rosie and then Arissa. "I really appreciated the gifts, I can't wait to use them." It was true, Cade planned to sprint to the Ravenclaw common room and marvel at the new items next to the warm fire.
