Astronomy Tower at Night
Humming quietly, Callista left the Great Hall. She didn't eat that much, unlike some of her fellow Hufflepuffs. A bowl of pesto pasta and a piece of garlic bread was enough. She was feeling restless tonight. She had completed all of her homework already, and she was itching to do... something. But really all she had to do tonight was curl up for a good night's sleep. Callista's heart sank a little at the mention of sleep. She didn't dislike sleeping, exactly, but when you were an eleven-year-old girl at a large boarding school where you learn magic, it's pretty impossible to not feel homesick. Shaking her head, she brought herself back to earth.
That fireplace really is beautiful, Callista reflected. The chandelier as well. Callista leaned against one of the walls, watching a few sparse students leaving the Great Hall early, as she had done. For some reason, Callista did not go immediately to her dorm. She wasn't quite sure why, but she wanted to stay outside for a little longer before retreating to the humble dormitory of the badgers.
The sky was clear today - she knew that from the ceiling of the Great Hall. She missed staying up to gaze at the stars, sometimes with Aurora or Miluku. But there was a curfew at Hogwarts, and a rule was a rule. Callista was... not one for breaking rules. Callista stared into the fire, thinking about home. Eventually, she knew, she would have to go back to her dorm and - attempt to - sleep, but for now she was content standing there, amidst the portraits of important wizards and witches.

Astronomy Tower at Night
Kira tapped her leg with her fingers as she strolled out of the great hall. She had gotten to dinner early today, and after eating pretty quickly, she finished before the majority of her house. She spent some time talking and joking around with her friends before she grew restless, she was tapping her feet and drumming her fingers. She wanted to get up and go somewhere.Interacting with: @Callista Lovis
Entering the small hall, Kira took the time to take in the room with it’s glowing fireplace and array of paintings. Usually she was in too much of a hurry getting from place to place to do so, but now she had more time than she knew what to do with. She had surprisingly finished all of her school work that day (thanks to the nagging of some of her friends), and she didn’t feel like heading back up to the common room since no one would be there.
She continued her way through the small hall contemplating what she wanted to do, when she noticed that while the few other people in the small hall were coming and going, there was a girl with brown hair staring into the fireplace. This had Kira intrigued, not one to pass up an opportunity to quell her curiosity, she decided to approach the girl who seemed deep in thought. Though she felt a little bad for interrupting those thoughts she didn’t dwell on it much.
She crossed the room to where the girl stood in front of the fireplace. “A penny for your thoughts?” she asked with a friendly smile. “Though I guess a knut for your thoughts is more fitting,” she said, cocking her head to the side in thought before returning her focus to the girl in front of her.

Ack, I'm so sorry I accidentally mentioned the wrong person...Callista was pulled from her thoughts by a friendly voice saying, “A penny for your thoughts?” She turned, surprised. She found the source of the voice, a pale girl with dark hair and bangs. The girl suddenly cocked her head, adding that she supposed it would be a knut instead of a penny with a smile.
That's right, Callista remembered. They use different currencies here. It was still a bit weird to get her head around - galleons, sickles, and knuts - but she expected that she would get the hang of it eventually. Remembering her comment, Callista focused back on the other girl.
"Um, I was just thinking about, um, home, I guess." Callista blushed in embarrassment, hoping the girl wouldn't tease her about it. She seemed nice, but it was never a good idea to judge someone based on their looks or their immediate actions. It could be deceiving, or it could be genuine. Callista usually hoped for the best, so she decided the girl was likely nice. Besides... she probably wasn't the only one to feel homesick, right?
Usually for her, being on an overnight trip meant lots of fun in the daytime, and she usually enjoyed them, but once nighttime settled in and she lay in bed, she starts to get really homesick. She fidgeted with the sleeves of her Hufflepuff robes. It was a bit hot with the fire going, but she was proud to be able to attend Hogwarts and to be a Hufflepuff, so she kept it on. She looked up at the new girl, a touch of worry in her eyes, but also curiosity as to why she would approach her.

When Kira approached her, the girl turned towards her with a look of surprise on her face. She seemed to take a moment to collect her thoughts before she responded. "Um, I was just thinking about, um, home, I guess."Interacting with: @Callista Lovis
“I get that,” Kira nodded at this, with a small smile. Before coming to Hogwarts, Kira never imagined that she would miss her small town, but recently she has longed to walk through the trails she grew up with surrounded by the forest that stood long before her childhood home did. Every week she looked forward to the letters she would receive from her parents, (even though they were filled with mundane events, such as her father setting off the smoke alarm while trying to cook dinner last Thursday, or how excited Mattias was to start second grade) they meant the world to her. While she had her own reasons to be a bit homesick, she hoped that she would have gotten an answer that was less vague from the girl in front of her.
Then again they didn’t know each other so Kira was probably expecting too much. Speaking of not knowing each other, it would probably make sense if she introduced herself. “Oh, by the way I’m Kira, and I’m a first year,” she said, with a warm smile. She might as well take the chance to meet someone new.

The girl seemed to sympathize with her, filling her with a sense of relief. She seemed to be thinking about something, and Callista asked quietly, "A chocolate frog for your thoughts?" She smiled, her eyes gently teasing.
The girl introduced herself as Kira. "Oh, er, I'm Callista," she replied. "I'm a first year too." For a few minutes, Callista stood there awkwardly. "Um... w-what's your favorite class so far..?" Some people ask what they like to do when they meet new people. For Callista, favorite classes are her default. She glanced down at her watch quickly. Still time before curfew... might as well stick around. "Um, so. What, er, is your favorite color?" Okay, that just popped out of nowhere. Callista decided to shut her mouth before anything else super embarrassing popped out of it.
She glanced at the fireplace again. Funny how something that could provide such warmth and is so beautiful could be so dangerous at the same time. Then again, if it's warm, then it has energy, and energy can be dangerous if not controlled. And oftentimes beautiful things are dangerous and deceiving... The world is not perfect, but we all have to live in it, so we should all make it the best it can be... sad how that's not happening.

It turned out that the girl she had approached was a first year named Callista, and Kira guessed that she was either a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw since she didn’t recognize the girl, and if she was a Slytherin they would have classes together. It was silent for a moment as Kira came to this conclusion, until Callista asked a question and the conversation continued, "Um... w-what's your favorite class so far..?" Her favorite classes were definitely flying and herbology, though she liked some other classes such as potions or defense against the dark arts, especially since those classes were so hands on (a welcome change from the muggle schools Kira attended before Hogwarts). She has many fond memories of flying around on old brooms with her cousins, as they played games or raced each other, while trying their best not to fall off, in the vast backyard of her Grandmother's home in the countryside. Now that she was learning how to ride a broom correctly, she was excited to visit her family next summer and be able to hold her own against her older cousins. Herbology was Kiras favorite because she has always been captivated by plants and animals, especially the magical ones. The class has been a way for Kira to feed her curiosity, through reading books, asking a lot of questions, or being able to see the things she’s learning about infront of her.
Just as she was about to answer Callista’s question, she asked another, "Um, so. What, er, is your favorite color?" This question seemed a bit out of the blue but Kira didn't really mind.
"My favorite classes are herbolgy and flying, and there are a couple of colors that I like." Kira always had a difficult time explaining her favorite colors, firstly because she had multiple, but also because to her, they came in moments rather than a color you could paint on a canvas. Some of her favorites are the periwinkle of her mother's favorite dress, the yellow of the lemonade she and her siblings would have on hot summer days, the dark velvet blue of the armchairs in her grandparent’s living room, or the color of the pine trees around her house on a foggy day. The problem was that she always felt silly when she told someone this, and she always felt that green, blue, or yellow were tooboring and didn’t do the colors justice.
“What’s your favorite class or color?” Just as the words left her mouth, a more interesting question came to mind, and with a slightly mischievous smile she voiced it, “Even better, what is something you’ve wanted to do at Hogwarts but haven’t yet?”

"My favourite classes are herbology and flying, and there are a couple of colours that I like," Kira replied. Flying? Callista thought. She had been afraid of heights from a young age, and although the fear was certainly better now, she was still uncomfortable with being up really high, especially when all that's holding you up is a large wooden stick.
"Oh. I don't really like flying, um, it's not really my thing..." she said hesitantly. "What kind of colours?" Callista asked curiously. At Kira's return question, she thought about it a bit. Charms would be an obvious one, but she had also taken a liking to both Astronomy and Transfiguration. And of course, her favourite colours were midnight blue and gold. "I like Charms, Astronomy, and Transfiguration," she decided to say. "My favourite colours are midnight blue and gold."
"Um, well..." she shifted awkwardly. "I've always wanted to go stargazing? Like, here at Hogwarts? Like, I've gone stargazing a lot, but I bet it would be really cool to do it here at Hogwarts, I don't know why. Maybe because the sky seems perpetually clear?" She was just rambling by now, so she decided to shut her mouth.
"Um, what about you? What do you want to do?" Callista asked, unsure what to say now.
