Charm The Bubble-Producing Charm, First Year

Kara hadn't really ever liked history classes of any sorts, and History of Magic was no different. Throughout classes she always have her head on her hands and even fall asleep sometimes. So, the moment she had discovered that there were some Charms to be taught in the class, her normal enthusiasm had returned.

She had her wand in her hand and listened as the teacher, who's name she couldn't, and would most likely never, get right. So she had just called him Professor H, which stood for Professor History. Pretty creative right?

So they were doing a bubble-making charm? It wasn't that interesting, but Kara was up to the task. Brushing her hair out of her face and putting it behind her ear, she watched at Professor H performed the charm himself, and from his wand came some bubbles

He had called out a few "guinea pigs" out to the cleared part of the class, so they could all work on the spell. She tried the incantation out a few times, but they were more like some stuff like BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lUm or BUL-le-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. Both of which were wrong, which discouraged the girl.

She decided to try it with her wand, but when she did, she had said BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lum again, making the bubbles come out, which gave her a glimmer of hope, but they popped in her eyes.

"Dang it..." She muttered, rubbing her eyes.

A few more tries, and a few more failures, she had finally done it.

"BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" The bubbles came out of her wand, and she smiled brightly.

"Yes, I did it!" She praised herself.
Professor Edit: When Zahid told the students to practice the incantation separately and to line up to practice the spell on one of the upper years, he meant what he said. But as always there were some impatient ones that attempted to cast the spell before it was their turn instead of waiting and practicing. Still a success was a success he supposed, so his reprimand was less harsh than it could have been. “Nice work, Miss Capricorn... but I believe you were told to cast the spell at a specific target once it was your turn.”

Today's class was a bit...different from what Arissa has expected. Usually, the History of Magic class would be about books and lectures, and rarely did they were required to bring out their wands. However, Arissa wouldn't complain. When Professor Zahid told them that they would be learning a new spell, her lips quirked up to form a smirk. It's quite shocking, to say the least, but Arissa was definitely not unwelcoming. New spell mean new knowledge after all. By now, she was writing her own notes for the spell, before raising her head to face the professor once more.

'Bubble-Producing Charm. The incantion is Bullarum Immortalem'

The presence of five older students did make Arissa rose her brows, and she couldn't help but be amused when they were told that the five students were to act as a target for her fellow first years to practice on. She put those behind as she tried to mutter the incantation.

"Bul-La-rum Im-mor-ta-lem."

"Bul-La-rum Im-mor-ta-lem."

"Bullarum Immortata- no." Arissa took a deep breath before continuing her practice.

"Bullarum Immortalem." Her fourth try, turned out okay. Arissa just hope that there won't be any tongue-twisting episode when she stood in front of the line. She tried it a few more times before lining up in front of the boy wearing Hufflepuff tie - Mister Fabbri. The reason why she chose him was because he would be the least person she would feel bad for if somehow her spell failed, as mischief was quite evident in his eyes.

As more people passed, Arissa's heart was beating faster. She bit her lip as she gripped her wand tightly. When it was finally her turn, she finally came face to face with the Hufflepuff boy. Arissa was nervous , yes, but something in the boy's eyes caused her to show her usual haughty front. She tilted her chin up high as she pointed her wand towards the boy, while she chanted, "Bullarum Immortalem!"

When bubbles came out from the tip of her wand, Arissa knew she succeed. However, a part of her was a bit disappointed when the boy went unscathed, not that she have any intention in causing harm. It just that she felt like the boy was provoking her somehow. She could only shook her head.

"What a shame," she muttered under her breath.
Professor Edit: The Slytherin seemed nervous only up until she reached the front of the line, as soon as she stepped up it looked to Zahid as if a change came over her and she donned a mask of confidence – not without cause, though, as her attempt at the spell succeeded. “Well done, Miss Wright.”

Katie Palsorette enjoyed History of Magic. Of course Katie had heard horror stories from her grandparents when she was younger about the dreaded Professor Binns, and how boring he was, but Katie had seen no such ghost professor, so she suspected they had just made that up to scare her.

Katie had been fascinated to learn about how the bubble producing charm had been used in the historical context, and slightly shocked as well if she might add, but engaged in the course material no-one the less. Katie wore her favorite dark green turtleneck under her Slytherin green school robes.

Katie was proud to be in Slytherin. She didn't judge people based on their houses of course. Katie had more friend outside of Slytherin than within Slytherin quite frankly. Katie was stool proud though. She was fidgeting with the Slytherin crest on her robes when she snapped out of her distracted state and looked back at the blackboard to pay attention to what their Professor was teaching them.

Wait! Katie thought, We are going to learn a charm today? Awesome! Katie filed with excitement and anticipation as their Professor lectured her asking with the rest of the first years.

Katie leaned forward on her desk and absorbed the knowledge with rapt interest. Katie paid close strength and noted down a few quick notes on casting the bubble producing charm.
  • BUL-la-run imo-MoRT-al-e-um

Katie held her wand stay and was careful to enunciate the charm perfectly. BUL-la-run imo-MORT-al-e-um her wand twitched a bit, but no bubbles erupted from its top as they did with the other students. That was okay though. Perhaps she had written the pronunciation down incorrectly? Katie looked back yo as the board, and sure enough, her theory was correct.
  • BUL-la-run imo-MoRT-al-e-um
  • BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem

Katie briefly glanced back up at the black board top double check that she had the pronunciation written down this time. Sure enough, she did. Katie held her wand steady and enunciated the charm again: BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!

This time, bubbles did spew forth from her wand. Katie grinned with pride. She had successfully caddy the bubble producing charm. To ensure that Katie truly had perfected the charm, Katie tried casting it another time, after the bubbles had stopped. BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!! she said confidently. Again, Bubbles erupted from the top of her wand. Katie smiled in satisfaction.
Professor Edit: It seemed the Slytherin was a bit over-eager, as she could not wait to line up and await her turn to actually practice the spell and instead seemed intent on only practicing at her desk. “Nice work but you are supposed to line up for your try casting at a target, Miss Palsorette. Please do so.”, Zahid firmly sent her on her way to queue up.

Charm The Bubble-Producing Charm, First Year
Backdated to Opeila's first year.
History of magic was one of Opeila's better subjects for sure. The first year had always shown some sort of interest in history, probably partly because of her father, who made sure that Opeila got to visit some historical places in her childhood. He had always cared a lot about Opeila's education. Now, History of Magic of course was a lot different from her muggle history class at elementary school, where they were merely given a rough outline of the second worldwar.

Opeila was excited for this lesson. While the topics they talked about in class were interesting, they didn't learn new spells in it too often. Scourgify was the only one she could remember from this class.
Carefully she listened to Professor Zahid's instructions for the spell they would learn today, Bullarum Immortalem. From time to time she dared to shoot a look at the upper class students they were supposed to cast the spell at. It felt wrong to only imagine that. Opeila was raised to show respect to elders, it felt wrong to cast spells on them, no matter if they caused harm to them or not.

Opeila always had been the most excited to learn defensive and aggressive spells and despite this being neither of the above, she was quite eager to learn it. The bubbles were pretty and probably made jobs like the decoration of a room or christmas trees a lot easier.
When the Professor told them to start, the Slytherin was one of the first who got off their seats and turned to their targets.
A little unsure, she joined the group that chose the Gryffindor boy as target, who had been introduced by Professor Zahid as Mr. Everill.

She ended up somewhere in the middle of the line up of students giving the spell a try. It really didn't look to difficult, a few students even successfully casted the spell first try and then stepped aside with a proud grin.
Opeila felt a little uncomfortable having to cast a spell she never did before in front of other students. What if she ended up failing terribly?

The queue shrunk quickly, too quickly in Opeila's opinion. She would have oreferred to watch a little longer.
Alright then. She got this. This was no problem at all. Bullarum Immortalem. BUL-la-rum im-mor-TA-lem.
Taking a deep breath, she pointed her wand at the Gryffindor. "Bullarum Immortalem!" No... Her face turned hot, she immediately realized her mistake. The first year learned so many different wand movements this year, it seemed almost impossible to just hold it still when casting a spell. She hadn't been able to resist giving it a little flick when casting.

She cleared her throat and tried again. "Bullarum Immortalem! BUL-la-rum im-mor-TA-lem!" What was she doing wrong? She wasn't moving her wand the tiniest bit anymore! A few students giggled, some others started to look impatient. Opeila was embarassed. "Hey, um- You're stressing the wrong syllable. It's im-MOR-ta-lem. You are saying im-mor-TA-lem.", a girl spoke up, who looked like she felt a little sorry for Opeila.
"I- oh... Thank you.", was all Opeila could say.
"BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!", she tried again, her wand pointed at the boy. And there, finally, a stream of bubbles emerged from her wand. Relieved, the first year stepped aside.
Professor Edit: Zahid was always glad to see students help each other learn and giving each others tips, so he took notice when one student pointed out a wrongly stressed incantation before he could. Nodding at them both, Zahid then gave the Slytherin an encouraging smile upon her success. “Well done, Miss Seilun.”

History of Magic: Bubble-Producing Charm
History of Magic: possibly one of the most boring lessons in the whole, entire world. Although Martyna would perhaps argue that it was a tiny bit more exciting than ordinary, non-magical History, it was still all the same - memorising key dates and writing too many words and listening for extended periods of time, all stuff she wasn't very good at. The only difference was that people in the magical History books hurt each other with spells instead of weapons, and sometimes there were monsters. Okay, monsters were actually pretty cool, but learning about them in class didn't strike up quite the same excitement to learn as with Charms or Herbology or Flying.

Today, however, their History of Magic lesson was different. Today, they were doing a spell, and not just any spell, no! The spell that they were doing would (hopefully, with some skill) produce indestructible, magical bubbles that Professor Zahid mentioned were used in previous years at Hogwarts to decorate Christmas trees. As per usual, Tina had absolutely no idea this was the case. Frequently, her sister was all-too-secretive about things that really didn't matter, Christmas decorations at Hogwarts being one of these things. Ah well, the more you knew!

"Bub-la-room! Bulla-room. Rum. Bubble-rubble-make-a-bubble." She was easily distracted today, it seemed. Hopefully the day wouldn't end in disaster. "Im-mor-tally. Im-ort-lem. Im-or-ta-lem." Tina continued to attempt the pronunciation, her (quieter than usual) voice lost amongst the other practicing first years. She was always nervous when it came to casting spells in front of others, an insecurity bred from her Muggle-born status perhaps. It had been a subject of ridicule when she'd first arrived at the school, after all.

Thankfully, for this spell the first year would only have to focus on the incantation. One of the first things Tina had realised about spell casting was that focusing on complicated wand movements as well as fickle pronunciations was unexpectedly hard. She was grateful that all this would take was a point of the wand and a Bullarum Immortalem! She went over the pronunciation again, more successfully this time.

"BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. Oh!" Tina startled when she realised it was her turn to cast, quickly stepping up to the front of the class and pointing her wand arm out at the tanned, Ravenclaw fourth year in front of her. Luckily for him, she had her head screwed on right today, because she called out clearly and with a nervous grin, "Bullarum Immortalem!"
Word Count: 409
Professor Edit: The Hufflepuff seemed zoned out, and with a sigh Zahid made his way over to either snap her back into the now to cast or sent her to the back of the line if she needed more time with the incantation. Before he reached her, however, something startled her out of her reverie and she apparently got her head back in the game, nervously attempting to cast today's spell. A bit wobbly, but a success overall. ”Nicely done, Miss Romero. Though class is not the place for day dreaming.”

Cade was once again relieved that they would be having another hands-on spellcasting class. Cade didn't mind their history discussions or reading passages from the heavy textbook. But these types of classes were always a refreshing break for him. He paid close attention to Professor Zahid when he told them of the spell and its use.

Cade wilted at the realization that he would have to cast the spell at some upperclassmen. Thankfully he was towards the back of the line so he had time to practice the totally confusing incantation. This one was longer than most so it would take a few tries to master it. He wasn't exactly sure why they were even learning the spell. It was only used for decoration. At least that's what Professor Zahid had mentioned. Shouldn't they learn more defensive spells? Or ones that could be useful around the house? This definitely was unconventional. Cade was, however, impressed that the bubbles never burst. It was an interesting spell, to say the least.

"BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem" Cade muttered under his breath. He managed to say it right that time but he wasn't yet confident. "Bulla-room im-MOR-ta-lem" He continued again studdering over the first word. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-talum... no, im-MOR-tal-lem... er, im-MOR-ta-lem!" He sighed. He was getting much closer to the front of the line. He bit his lip and concentrated. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem." He pronounced yet again. Grinning he made it to the front of the line and readied himself.

Cade pointed his wand at a fifth-year who introduced himself as Theo. Giving his wand a wave, Cade did his best to pronounce the incantation properly.

"Bullarum Immortalem!" He muttered. A fine stream of bubbles wafted from the tip of his wand. He did it!
Professor Edit: Going back to the line in front of Mister Everill, Zahid observed the next-in-line student's attempt at casting the spell. The incantation was a bit mumbled, so he would not have been too surprised if it failed but it seemed the words were still clear enough. ”Well done, Mr. Darkbound. However, try to speak a bit more clearly when you practice further.”

Of all the things they were to learn in History of Magic, unbreakable bubbles weren't something that came to mind. Mars sat at their desk as they watched Professor Zahid explain the charm, eyes sweeping over the five students at the front of the room. Hmm.

It was fairly true that they didn't learn many spells in this class. They supposed that was the reason these seemingly random ones were placed here, just to balance out curriculums. Not that they were complaining. Charm work was one of their favorite things to do, even if they were still getting a hang of their wand.

Speaking of which, Mars' fingers unconsciously dipped over the cherry wood stick, running along the grooves in a gentle manner. When the professor gave the signal, they stood from their desk, picking it up between two fingers.

Mars had never been one to try out the spell first. They took a moment to look around the room, watching other people's attempts. Some succeed first go, some did not. It was all rather funny, watching the golden bubbles drift around the room, the sounds of popping in their ears.

Bullarum Immortalem. One of the harder incantations for sure. Mars rolled the words around in their mouth, trying their hand, "Bub-le, wait, BUL-la—BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem." That seemed right. At the very least, the complicated spell was offset by a simple wand movement. Less to remember that way.

Before they knew it, they'd arrived in front of a Gryffindor Fourth Year with her own wand ready. Wait, they were casting at someone? What was the point of casting these at a target? They seemed more fitting for Christmas decorations than targetted spells.

Running their tongue over their teeth, Mars thought about it for a moment. Unbreakable bubbles... to catch your fall? Those didn't really make sense, seeing as they would probably shift under someone's body weight. To contain something? Tiny bombs? But then, it didn't seem like these could be cast around something, so that wouldn't work either. Then... hinder movement? Well, that seemed like a viable option. Maybe they were thinking too hard about this. Maybe they really were just holiday decor. But then... well they kind of wanted to test that theory. Some other day though, right now, they'd focus of actually casting the spell.

Mars raised their wand, pointing it at the Gryffindor. They opened their mouth, ready to cast, and there was the smell of saffron and sugar cookies, a guiding voice in the back of their head.

"BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" they exclaimed. A stream of bubbles poured out of their wand, glistening in the light of the classroom. Mars grinned. They'd have to keep this one in mind.
Professor Edit: The Ravenclaw at the front of the line seemed quite confident in their spell casting ability – and apparently not without reason. Zahid gave an approving nod. ”Well done, Mars T'ien.”

Michael had alwasy disliked History of Magic, most of the time he knew the information, or believed he did, so he didn't listen. Today, though, was different, he could tell by the fact there was older students there before they got there.

Mike observed them while the teacher talked about the lesson. First, was a girl. She had blue eyes and was a blond, her robes showing her Gryffindor nature with its red crest. He eyes switched over to the next student. This one was a girl that, from where he sat, he could tell she stood nearly two feet above him. Her crest said Slytherin but her slouch did not. With two students observed, he was already bored.

He was going to lay his head down, but his eyes snapped to Professor Zahid as he explained the lesson for the day. Mike hummed as he thought about the spell. It was just an incantation, no movement, so he knew he could do it if he got the pronunciation down.

As a line started with student after student doing their turn, some immediately good, some having trouble, Mike thought over the pronunciation. Bullarum Immortalem. BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem.

He mumbled it several times before it was his time, and when he stepped up, he was confident in his abilities. He planted his right foot forward as he pointed his wand at the girl with the blue eyes and blond hair. He smiled for a second, before he put on a serious face. " Bullarum Immortalem." he said, his voice strong, his face focused. Though it broke out in a grin as bubbles streamed from his wand.

Professor Edit: The Slytherin boy seemed to take this lesson far more seriously than he normally did History, it seemed. Zahid supressed a sigh. Well, at least he did seem to want to learn even if he'd preferred for his students to pay attention during actual lessons... And judging by the bubbles he'd produced, he did learn something today. “Well done, Mr. Miller.”

Starlee wasn't expecting the strange setup of the room. All the desks were pushed aside and there were five upperclassmen standing alongside Professor Zahid. It seemed as though they would be doing some spellcasting today and Starlee tried not to groan. She was probably one of the few that actually dreaded it, seeing as her spells never seemed to work. However, she listened intently as Professor Zahid explained todays lesson and the spell they were to be learning: The Bubble-Producing Charm. Well for the bubbly girl that Starlee was, her frown instantly turned upside down, as she grew more and more excited at the thought of shooting bubbles out of her wand.

She did as the professor asked, and began to repeat the incantation aloud. "Bubblearium... no no... BUL-lalarium, wait... no... BUL LA RUM... okay, yes... Immoralium! Eurgh..." she shuffled her feet as her nervousness about casting, even just what sounded like a fun bubble spell, set back in again. Why did these incantations have to be so difficult? How about 'Wand make bubbles!' instead of this nonsense?

She sighed and continued pronouncing until she felt she had a good grasp of it. At least the movement was easy, just point and shoot! And so, she lined up behind what seemed like quite the chipper Hufflepuff boy. There was something about Hufflepuff's that Starlee liked, perhaps it was because she felt that was the house she really belonged to.

Finally, it was her turn to cast against the Hufflepuff boy. She raised her wand, her hand shaking a bit as she yelled ""B-Bubblarium Immortalem!" For whatever reason, Starlee simply couldn't get the word bubbles out of her mind, and her wand sputtered as a single red bubble flew out at the boy and popped almost immediately. The Hufflepuff boy seemed prepared though, his Impervius easily countering her little angry bubble. She sighed audibly, rethinking her incantation, trying to rid herself of the incorrect word. 'BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem... BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem... BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem' she thought to herself a few times before finally feeling confident again.

Again, she raised her wand, this time pronouncing it correctly, "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" and many bubbles of a uniform size shot from her wand. She fist-bumped the air in happiness, and left the queue for another, hoping to get in more rounds of practice.
Professor Edit: As Zahid made his way over to the Slytherin to correct her pronunciation, the girl caught her error herself and made a new attempt, this time successful. “Nicely done, Miss Kennedy.” He was always glad when students managed to correct their own mistakes – it stuck with them better that way, he'd found.

Shanelle was very excited about the next History of Magic class, they were learning a spell! She recalled that they would learn the bubble producing charm, Bullarum Immortalem. The spell creates a long stream of bubbles, pouring out form the tip of the wand. That seemed fun enough. Learning new spells are one of the best parts about Hogwarts.

Shanelle mentally went through the things she needed to do, point her wand, and saying the incantation, BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. She knew the speaking the spell clearly and focusing is the most important part. When it was her turn, she pointed her wand at a empty spot, focused her energy and spoke clearly, “ Bullarum Immortalem!”

Shanelle saw several bubbles lazily coming out of the tip, it worked, well, sort of. Bubbles did come out, which was already better than Shanelle had predicted, but it wasn’t a jet or a stream, it was just random ones.

She tried again, this time, focusing even harder, and speaking louder. “Bullarum Immortalem!” A small stream of bubbles bursted out, Shanelle cheered. She did it! She probably wouldn’t use the spell that often but it could be quite useful if she was desperate in a battle, she could spray a jet of bubbles in someone’s eyes.
Professor Edit: It seemed the Gryffindor was not particularly keen to cast the charm at a person - either that or her aim was atrocious. "Well done on the casting, Miss Meza, try to work on hitting your target next."
