'Ha.'

Starlee watched smugly as Tina's face fell when Starlee mentioned her... well... 'boy' who was certainly much more of an acquaintance, if you could even call him that since she had never even talked to the boy. Tina was certainly too gullible for her own good and Starlee planned on using this to her advantage. What she hadn't expected though, was Tina's attacks on Starlee's makeup. Tina knew that Starlee had no idea how to do any sort of makeup, like work the minuscule pencil that was for eyeliner, or how to not choose clownlike colors for her eyeshadows. And blending? Starlee had never even heard of it before.

'Low. Tina is so low.' Starlee was absolutely seething. She had never felt this angry before. And she really didn't know what the heck to do about it. 'Fish-man' had decided to introduce himself... finally... as a Hanako Tone. Hmm... Nah, Fish-man had a lot more of a ring to it, she decided. Plus, there was really no way Starlee thought she would ever see the boy again, so whatever he said really didn't matter.

Well... or so she thought. “ Hmmm.. Honey because of my eyes? Dear because I’ve been one since we met~? H a n d s o m e ~ ? ” Anger was apparent on the little Slytherins face. These two had just met, Starlee was sure of it, but for whatever reason, these little pet names were getting under her skin. Maybe it was the fact he was so... nonchalant about everything? Like it was some sort of game? And Tina's smug looks weren't helping.

They were swiftly interrupted by the Knight, and Starlee was full-on expecting both Hanako and Tina to continue their taunts. However, Tina quickly dashed off to follow the knight, curiosity in her eyes. Hanako, on the other hand, looked... bad. She felt certain he was just a random guy when he didn't follow Tina, but something was also off with how he stole bag Tina's paper bag and put it on himself. Oh well, her beef wasn't with Hanako... but with Tina. She quickly snatched her fake wand off the table, took a final swig of her punch, and ran after Tina.

Starlee would be the first to solve this mystery, she was sure of it. Minimally, she would beat Tina.

Open only to Ileen
There would be no verbal response from him when she questioned his response on the topic of how he had learned to dance, he just offered a slight shrug and continued to dance for a little while longer. Once again, her words seemed to mock what him when he said he had run into Ileen the night before; the creeping feeling of annoyance slightly entering the back of his mind. God, there were easier dates to navigate than the constant barrage of badgering he received from each of the vague responses he had given. This was half the reason he decided to stop the dancing and have them make their way over towards the refreshment area, the back of his mind still trying to wrestle their personality differences that were so blatantly obvious with the girl he asked out.

Inwardly, he wanted to have the best night of his short tenure here at the school. It'd been a rough time to try and find someone he could honestly feel attached with at the school, there were times of awkwardness between him and Dealla that made him think of what direction their relationship would end up folding into. When she had walked away a few short weeks ago and then eagerly accepted his proposal to go the dance with him, he felt, well, generally happy. As time passed though and their tense conversations never seemed to ease, even this evening, it started to question his thoughts once more. Clearly, it wasn't her, this was her, it was more of a problem with his own thought process.

When her retort to his comments about sweets was brought up, he once again didn't feel the urge to try and reason his explanations with her. As subtle of a comment as he made it, he figured she might pick up an undertone of a deeper meaning of his words, but, she once again would receive a shrug in response as his mood started to dampen. Of course, he couldn't help but things were going in a direction that he couldn't have put together at the beginning of the evening; he was just so excited to be with her, the expectation overwhelming. Maybe it was that, his expectations, that needed to be called into question with himself.

Thankfully, the distraction of the ghost barging through the glass window and reciting some stupid riddle for other students to drool over. This is what caused his reactionary comments to flow from his lips as easily as parting with everyone who ever tried to get close to the young second-year. Eventually, he'd speak up once more in what seemed to be more of a 'goodbye' statement, at least happy with some of the time they got to spend together, without the nonsense of the school distracting every minute of their night. This was when a trio decided to arrive and provide the perfect escape opportunity for him.

While twisting the wand through the digits of his hand, a boy dressed in a dress approached and greeted Dealla emphatically; they seemed close. This of course didn't bother Zykeal, those golden irises giving the figure a quick once over and then quickly moving on to look back out into the crowd as if he was searching for something else. The conversation that followed, even the introduction to the boy from Dealla was overlooked as his eyes wandered the patrons of the ballroom. Overheard words of conversation nagged at his ear as he looked on, the recounting of the most idiotic ghost stunt that decided to ruin a good night seemed a highlight in the story. Zykeal hated gossip. One thing seemed obviously clear though, the other boy was clearly interested and although something that resembled a slight bit of jealousy rose up for a brief moment in him... it was quickly suppressed.

Taking this as a good sign that he had fulfilled his obligatory promise that he had made to his date that evening, he turned slightly to the side so that he could look at the two of them, "You two should go have fun," he said, a smile pushed upon his features that seemed real to an untrained eye. Looking over to the de-masked Dealla, he nodded once, "Thanks for the dances," he said politely, "think' I kept my promise and you're in..." and he gave a side glance towards the boy, "great hands," he mentioned as he peeled his eyes back over towards the aquamarine eyes of the girl he had brought. Zyk would smile once more as he offered his parting to the date that he brought to the ball that evening, "See ya around Dealla."

Zykeal would take a step back then, offer a slight nod of his head and turn to head off into the crowded area of the dance floor, unsure if he wanted to just go wander the grounds to clear his thoughts or to find a loyal friend to possibly take his mind away from where it was. There was the slight thought that using her name would make her annoyed with him, it didn't bother him, it was just a foolish way to end the encounter with a childish twist. With his wand twisting fluidly through his fingers still, he made his way in search of something that could distract him. If he found nothing by the time he'd reached the opposite side of the ballroom, he'd make a cut for the door.

That dress was ridiculous, and who was that...fish boy with Tina? Could the other girl possibly have gotten a date. That would be crazy. It seemed Liz had taken to long in thought and her conversation partners had moved on. That was fine though. The one girl, Melissa?, had decided to tell Liz off. Like it even made a dent in Liz's beliefs. And Felicia, who Liz had thought was on her side at least somewhat had also backed Melissa. Push-over. Liz would make sure to find Melissa sometime later to really give her what she had coming to her. But for now she was in need of a dancing partner.

It was a ball after all.

After having no luck looking for a guy or girl to dance with Liz decided to retreat to the side of the room for a break. She had caught glimpses of a male in the crowd with black hair and a pretty face. he looked rather rich and she guessed he was pure-blooded. He had a pretty girl with him at the moment though, so she hadn't decided to approach him. All of this had happened while she still drank from her cup of Pumpkin Juice. It was nearly gone now and that was quiet sad.

Liz's train of thought was interrupted by a loud sound of glass shattering. Liz looked around with slightly widened eyes, looking for the shattered glass. She was only met the sight of a ghost who had just jumped through a window. Seriously, what is wrong with this school sometimes? But it only got more interesting. the ghost served a message, albeit a strange one. Liz narrowed her eyes and watched it.

She immediately made up her mind to do this. She waited for a moment, watching some other kids dash out the door after something silvery, before deciding to join them. She walked out behind another blonde girl. Starpee again. Oh this was going to be fun. Maybe Tina would be there too.

Emile had upset Earl. He would never forgive himself. His heart felt heavy in his chest as the two boys left him to go have a chat. Another feeling also rose in his chest as he watched the two converse in such close quarters. It was a twisting feeling in his gut that he couldn't quiet place. He felt tears prick at his eyes. he was eleven we must remember, so crying about something wouldn't be shameful right?

To Bethy (Elizabeth) it would be. And to Florian and Rosa. Emile let out a soft snort at the thought of the two. It was their faults he was in this situation in the first place. The young boy spent a considerable amount of time sulking and wiping stray tears away. Finally he felt better. He started to make his way into the crowd, just trying to make it farther away from the pink haired boy that made him feel so terrible. The two had never been upset at each other before.

He then ran into his worst nightmare. Someone he didn't want to see either. Stupid Florian. With his stupid hair, expensive suit, and unbearably cute face. It didn't help that Florian knew it and carried himself around with an air of confidence that only certain types of rich people could do. Bethy and him would make the perfect match. Emile should probably apologize for softly bumping into Florian, and his existence, but he wasn't in the best mood.

He had no patience for the stupid black-haired males antics. "Excuse me, jerkwad.", he mumbled the last bit in German. Hopefully Florian couldn't understand German. Emile's attention was quickly drawn to the crashing of glass, but it didn't interest him as much after he saw what had caused it. His current situation was too important. Otherwise he would've been all over that ghost, asking questions and studying it.

Rohan was glad he had found Heather. She seemed happy about it aswell, so that was great! When she complimented his costume, he awkwardly thanked her and thought about everything that could go wrong and awkward this night. Why didn't he just kindly decline her idea to go to the ball? He could have been in his bed by now! Well, no use to regret, he just moved on.

The girl asked if he liked dancing, or maybe sleeping more. ""Well, I do indeed very much like sleeping.. I am a bit tired."
Then Heather got distracted again. "Really," Rohan thought to himself, "can't this girl decide on what she wants?". It wasn't really Rohan-ish to think like this, but he was tired and didn't completely like the atmosphere in the room. It was.. spooky.

The girl was approached by another pair, a girl and a boy. They seemed all right. Heather introduced them as Henry and Miranda, and Rohan suddenly missed his friends. He didn't have many, he knew, and the few he had had other friends aswell, and it all was complicated. He decided to just go with the flow and do whatever Heather wanted.

Suddenly Henry was gone again (Rohan wasn't paying attention to anything other than the table they were standing next) and lightning struck. Spooky. He heared glass shattering, and was confused. Was this some kind of stupid action of a Quidditch player? Someone who couldn't fly? People were screaming and everyone was running around.

He caught a glance of a ghostly man, and that man spoke to the crowd. Some sort of riddle, it was. He heard people talking about a cat, and was confused. He didn't see a cat anywhere. Just a whole lot of screaming and running people. "Are you two up for an adventure? I guess we can always return to the party if we get too tired!” the girl asked.

He woke up from his dream-like perception of the ball and thought. If he joined, maybe he would find Remi? Or.. Elisabeth? Or Robert? Or someone else he knew?
He wondered.. No time for wondering now. He ran after Heather, telling her to "wait for him!"

Event The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
Kyle was having a pretty bad night. People were yelling out things all over the place, as well as the spells flying every which way, and to make things even worse his sides were aching more and more from the incessant sensation of fingers digging into his ribs and armpits. He felt like he was bruising on the inside, but thats a problem for later. For now he had a giant issue to deal with. Or rather, a half giant one. His Date, Erin, Wanted him to leave the large boy to her but Kyle remembered last year and knew this wasn't the kind of person you fight alone. "Can it Starling, We drop this guy then who is casting like a coward from the crowd" he growled out through gritted teeth as he suffered the effects of the ill-named tickling charm.

Mostly due to the jerking and twitching that was being forced upon him by the spell he missed his punch and he swore to himself. Kyle then rolled his neck and squared his shoulders as he tried to center himself, then he pulled back and sudden smoke exploded all around him. The smoke filled his nose and got in his eyes and he winced away from it with a loud "Fer Fucks Sake!".

All he was trying to do, was keep some 8 foot tall lunatic from breaking the bones of a girl literally half his size. And everyone had it in their minds to target him. Maybe Erin was right. this school was filled with lunatics and evil people.

He coughed and tried to wave some smoke away from his face before he clenched his hand tight into a fist and tried once again to throw a hard body punch towards the half giant who was right in-front of him.

The weather had been stormy all night although Jade, as she danced with her friends, was noticing it was getting worse outside. Thunder rumbled louder and lightening flashed more frequently. Then suddenly the windows appeared to smash, scattering shards of glass everywhere. People screamed but Jay tried to remained calm and peered above the heads of once-dancing students to check Sapphy was safe, she saw her tightly hugging her date in the corner. A mysterious, ghostly figure galloped in on horseback and halted in the centre.
“Time is running out!

Something terrible is creeping about this castle, and if no one stops it, tragedy cannot be avoided.

If no one steps up to face this challenge, we are all doomed.

Follow the graceful apparition to find the riddle’s first piece - and if you need my help, call my full name.”

Oh no! A riddle, Jade hated riddles, she never understood the point of them, hopefully someone else was clever enough to solve it. Many students had started to filter out towards the doors in search of clues so Jay left her friends and went to investigate. Jade noticed her family-friend (Lucia Fox) backing out, probably after realising what terror she might have committed to, but Jay continued nearer to the group bravely, after all when did an adventure harm anyone!

Ruka's wings felt delicate beneath her fingers, and when Dee leaned back, she was grinning widely, even more so at his dramatic announcement. "Ah, we'll have to get you more happy thoughts then," she agreed. "A fairy who can't fly, that's just tragic. I'll do all I can to help." An easy promise to give, considering how much she enjoyed talking to the boy. And it was doubtlessly worth it for the assurance in return that he'd get her to fly, too, although she was rather curious about how he intended to achieve that, until she made the connection to his floating companions. Her eyes narrowed in thought, immediately intrigued by the mystery: How were they doing that?

Quite something was an interesting description for the location that had been meant to be brighter, more childish, offering more silly fun than the Masquerade, and for a moment, Dee was worried, but then Ruka was laughing while he mentioned the hair, and Dee burst out laughing along with him. She was aware of the different effects the treats offered, and the thought of all the long, shiny locks the ones spiked with Manegro Potion must have produced filled her with an unreasonable amount of joy. "I'll try," she replied, grinning.

Ah, not a hero, was he? She dimly remembered being told that Prometheus wasn't the usual Gryffindor, and this seemed to confirm it. Gryffindors were supposed to be heroes, right? Dee was much the same, unlikely to sacrifice herself for anyone but her loved ones, but immediately intrigued by anything that lacked an explanation. She wasn't averse to helping, but only as long as it didn't pose much of a danger to herself. But then, there was more than one type of hero. Weren't Peter and Tinkerbell also the heroes of their story? "Maybe you'd surprise yourself?" she replied, her eyes shining with amusement.

But no matter if hero or not, Ruka apparently had decided that the mystery was worth investigating, and despite her involvement with the planning of the ball, the offer to join them was a tempting one. Blinking with wide eyes at the sudden rain of glitter around her, she tried to decide what to do. And sneezed. The promise of fun and glitter and mystery with Prometheus seemed too inviting to pass up on, but the decision was made for her before she'd decided, anyway.

Dee looked up in slight confusion as Zykeal suddenly excused himself, striding off without waiting for a reply. She hadn't noticed his silence, how he'd grown more distanced and stand-offish over the past few minutes, so his departure was an abrupt, unexpected one to her, but she supposed he was right: He had kept his promise, while keeping in character and still making as little sense as ever. She still knew next to nothing about him, and he seemed rather determined to keep it that way, running whenever she started getting talkative. His intentional use of her full name, knowing how much she disliked it, stung, too. They'd been having fun, hadn't they?

Her eyes trailing Zykeal's back until he disappeared between the other ball attendees, she frowned slightly, an unhappy wrinkle between her eyes, but she made no move to follow him. She couldn't see the point in running after someone who wouldn't talk to her, anyway, who seemed to end most of their interactions on an unpleasant note, mostly on purpose.

Shaking her head, a rain of glitter falling from her hair, she turned and followed Tinkerbell from the Ballroom.

@Rafael D'Spacito & @Aurelia Roberts
Rafael's charmed smile hooked Rett on more than he already was. For the boy across the seas he felt like he was drowning in his charm and the attention that he gave, that Rett would fight for. He was aware of the situation he got himself into in trying to capture the attention of the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain. It was a battle that he had been prepared for from the start, and one that he seemed to be winning so far. His own eyes sparkled with adoration, heart alight from even a chaste kiss. Butterflies had seemed to find a breeding ground within his stomach, and he didn't mind. As long as they didn't escape and ruin the façade of being the calm and collected boy that he had always been.

The admittance of the faux detective missing him and the, albeit passive aggressive, time they spent over the summer had him practically melting under the hands that gently fiddled with his already pristine suit. "I live to entertain you, and only you, my dear." A genuine smile, a joy to be the only jester in Rafael's life. He glanced back towards the ballroom at the mention of dancing, then back to the beautifully handsome Gryffindor in front of him. "I would love nothing more, after all, I can't let all my ballroom training go to waste now can I?" Growing up in the wealthy circles of the South he was trained from a young age in the etiquette and dances that were expected of him. It was a skill that paid off well in getting information from ladies on the dance floor of the local gossip, and continuing to woo those that his heart yearned for.

For now, he would concede with greetings being tossed between the two of them and their third partner in this bizarre group date to the ball. Everett had no reason to be possessive, Rafael wasn't technically his in any way, shape, or form other than his own desires. Those desires falling quiet as they attempted to leave the tip of his tongue, or the quill that he would write him letters with. His heart couldn't help but flutter once more with Rafael's hand in his, a gentle squeeze to let him know that he was still here for him. "I'm sure we won't be needing a table for long anyway." He gently tugged Rafael towards the ball, assuming that Aurelia would be close behind to follow them.

The atmosphere created by the students that had been at the head of planning the ball had exquisite taste in picking out decorations to really make this Fall Ball worth remembering. "I have to admit, I'm more impressed than I thought I would be." He had high standards, just due to his own imagination of how this ball would end up. Although, looking around he saw punches and spells being thrown around, he leaned over to Rafael. "Is this... chaos, par for course at Hogwarts?" Perhaps this was just what they were into here, but he couldn't remember the last time a fight broke out at a ball he attended with his family.

Still the music was engaging and Everett didn't want to waste a moment's time with Rafael. For a moment he released his hand, and took a small elegant bow extending his right hand towards him. "May I have this dance, Rafael?" A brilliant grin was plastered on his face, there wouldn't be much to spoil his mood as long as he had the charming Gryffindor at his side.
Permission to godmod Aurelia entering the ball with Rafael and Everett given.

Mars smiled at Lindsey's excitement. They realized it'd been a shot in the dark—catching such a quick glance was probably not normal but... well, they spent enough time people watching to sort of figure it out. They were mildly surprised that she didn't want to over though. Was it... the other girl? Who was that anyway?

They craned their neck to look over. She looked familiar, though her face was blocked by the white owl mask she wore. It was pretty. But who?

They looked back to Lindsey, shrugging it off. It was her discretion anyway and they didn't care much. It seemed like she was just about to say something when a loud voice broke through the chatter.

“Time is running out!
Something terrible is creeping about this castle, and if no one stops it, tragedy cannot be avoided.
If no one steps up to face this challenge, we are all doomed.
Follow the graceful apparition to find the riddle’s first piece - and if you need my help, call my full name.”

...What the hell? Mars' posture straightened as they looked around, hand flying to the wand in their belt. They sympathized with the wave of questions that came out of Lindsey's mouth—why did something like this always seem to happen?

They watched with wide eyes as a flood of students followed the apparition out to the corridors. Lindsey left them with a goodbye, calling after her date. Mars swung their gaze to Cash. It seemed the Slytherin was going to follow as well. They extended the offer to Mars, but the Ravenclaw stood for a moment longer, allowing their friend to disappear into the crowd.

Should they go? Was that a good idea? They'd never been in a situation like this, one that seemed to be a staple of every Hogwarts student's school career. They'd made it through an entire year of peace, messing around with magic and flying and creatures without any strange threats.

Although, it wasn't as if this was a threat. Was it? What had it said? Time, and terrible, and tragedy... so it was a threat. Sh*t. Someone was going to get hurt. Maybe someone they cared about. Sh*t.

Finally making up their mind, they darted after the crowd, a few minutes too late. Hopefully, they could find wherever they'd gone. Hopefully, they weren't too late.

It was so hard to stifle the laugh that wanted to spring from his lips as he listened to his companion's rebuttal. Perfectly civil, yes, and that aspect he respected wholeheartedly but even more so, he respected the ice in her tone, the slight flex, the use of implication and inference. Oh how he longed to be able to say those things sometimes. But then, he had far more fun playing mind games, making it so the person sprung the criticism from their own mind, wormed insecurities from their own brain. He was, after all, flawless. He'd never do such a thing as insult you. You were simply insulting yourself.

It was utterly surprising to hear his name roll off her tongue. He'd forgotten that the girl had said it too, probably hearing it from her friend. He quite liked the way it sounded coming from her.

It was a quick thing to absorb the small bits of information she laid out with her response. The daughter of a jeweler who had to be doing well, seeing as her budget had been so high. Charitable... from the heart or for looks? He smiled, turning his opinion over in his mind. But of course, one could not make conclusions off of a single statement. But at the very least, she was someone in high standing. Someone who might be of use in the future.

He simply watched as the girl in black stalked away. His ears registered a foreign language—French, he thought. He couldn't understand perfectly, having yet to add languages to his growing list of academic subjects, but the tone was passive aggressive in nature. He hid the cruel grin that threatened to spring to his face in a smile.

When she turned back to him, his eyes gave her light applause. He respected her more than ever now. Of course, there was always room for improvement, the tirade was quite long, but she'd done a satisfactory job. He allowed the light of laughter to flash in his eyes as he spoke,

"An interesting start to our evening," he hummed, gaze soft as he appraised her once more. It was definitely a good idea to build this relationship. Alexander tilted his head in the direction the goth girl had gone.

"Well, it seems you know my name, but I'll introduce myself formally. I'm Alexander Baron, and it's a pleasure to meet you." He bowed at the waist, eyes lifting to her face as he rose.

"And you, my dear?"

The part-giant skipped every two steps on the staircase. His long legs often provided him for fast travel around the castle. Not that he was in any hurry tonight. His sheer height had been enough to set him apart from anyone his age. Having now been placed in second year once more, he felt even more separated from the other children. Still, his travels had shown him some new perspective to look forward to. While people would not know of him and his brothers and sisters, they could always learn. That was if they were willing though. While he had been attending Hogwarts from the start of September again, he chose to stay away from crowds and locked himself up in his dorm room most of the time.

Now the moment had come where he chose to reappear among his fellow students. A year ago, things had gone bad for him at an event like this. This was as good a place as any to start meeting people once again. Though he would have no clue what to expect, or how everyone would look at him. Maybe some of them would panic again after seeing another part-giant enter the ballroom. Then again, he reckoned Healy would be there. The two of them had not talked save from one exchange in letters. Something he needed to rectify this year, if they were ever wanting to change the image some people had on the part-giant population here at school. Which was the two of them, almost enough to make a joke about it.

Hugh took halt in front of the door and peeped in for a few moments. There were a lot of things going on it seemed. He did not fail to see Erin was up to her own shenanigans again. It seemed Healy was in for another rough night. Why Mad Erin was still allowed to bully people around was beyond him. In any case, Hugh was not looking to enter or seek a fight with anyone tonight. If he wanted to educate people and show them the other side of part-giants, he'd have to stay away from getting involved with people like her. Was that- Kyle? A look of disappointment fell over Hugh's face as he lingered along the walls whilst entering the room. It seemed even his old captain had fallen to attacking part-giants.

Then Hugh's gaze fell onto another duo exchanging blows. He recognised Vladimir, a boy he had one interaction with. But it had been one of the strangest encounters he ever witnessed. Why he found himself in the dungeons that evening was beyond Hugh's comprehension. Vlad had offered to be a friend that day. Now he saw him getting punched, embarrassed really in front of his date. The Gryffindor knew none of the people involved. But maybe he would repay the boy's kindness this once. No one needed a fight when they had their mind on protecting their date. While he saw another boy chiming in to Vlad's defence, Hugh marched forward as he scratched his trimmed sideburns.

His movements would be surprisingly swift and elegant for the brute he was seen as. "Don't worry about the girl Vlad. She'll be in the back." Hugh's hand found the girl's and smiled at her. "Vladimir can handle his own business. How about we go and dance over there for a bit? If you would allow me to guide you?" If the girl was willing and smiled back, he would take great care in guiding her to the back of the dance floor. Offering her a pleasant dance albeit the height difference would be quite apparent. If she would not be willing, he would let go in an instant and continue to try and calm her down. "I'm sorry if this is all very confusing..."
