Outfit
The skirt to her dress isn't quite as sheer as in the image.
Sarah felt a tightness in her chest, one she quickly realised was regret. The shift in Paisley’s mood had been so slight, Sarah wasn’t entirely certain whether she’d imagined it, but her defensive words told her otherwise. Sarah wasn’t the most well versed in social interactions with those her age, having spent most of her pre-Hogwarts years surrounded by adults she’d intentionally tried to irritate. It had left her social skills with much to be desired, ones which meant she often hid behind sarcasm and dry humour. So sometimes her words hurt people - usually unintentionally, though intentional or not, her words did hurt people. And now she’d managed to hurt the person she felt closest to in this school, possibly in her whole life. Over a stupid flippant comment, no less; one she hadn’t even meant. She did find Paisley’s jokes funny after all, her sense of humour a perfectly suited counterpart to her own. She internally scolded herself. Why would you even say that?

She’d have apologised, tried to take back the words and explain herself, had the ball not been interrupted. The ballroom, previously warm with the heat of dancing bodies, suddenly fell cold and silent as glass shattered and a booming voice bounced around the walls. She startled, taking a small step backwards as her eyes are wide. Questions swam violently around her mind, never stopping quick enough for her to even contemplate an answer. Who is that? What are they doing? What tragedy? A riddle?

Paisley voiced one of the questions she’d been unable to answer, moving to stand closer to her side. Sarah shrugged, unsure of who the ghost was. The tension from before momentarily forgotten as Sarah found herself taking comfort in the closeness of the Gryffindor. She stared at the ghost, watched as its horse galloped in circles - once, twice, three times - before leaving the ballroom. The atmosphere remained tense, students staring after the figure, questions buzzing around the ballroom, even the professors looked confused. Not a joke then, she reasoned. Curious by nature, Sarah wanted to know exactly what had just happened, despite the feeling that settled in her stomach as she considered following the apparition. “Should we follow him?” Paisley asked as Sarah turned back to look at her, practically reading her mind. She nodded, muttering a distracted affirmation as she turned back to look at the door, just in time to see a ghostly cat walk out of it. How peculiar.

“It was lovely to meet you, Allie,” Sarah smiled, nodding her head in the direction of the girl’s date to acknowledge him as well. “Enjoy the dance, we’ll hopefully see you again later,” She added before turning to leave the ballroom with Paisley. Her mind hummed as she flicked through a hundred possibilities for what exactly they were about to get themselves into, though the subtle picture of Paisley’s hurt face still sat at the edge of her subconscious. She’d handle that later. “Come on,” She said, a determined look settling across her face, moving to grab Paisley's hand, before adding with a hesitant smile, “let’s go get our detective on.”

Smiling softly at August, Lydia looked at her dance partner as he spoke about his family; from his words it was clear he really cared about them, and the way he also talked about art showed how much passion he must have had for it, or at least that was what Lydia got from his words. She found herself nodding, a proper smile on her lips, when August said that music was almost like learning a new language, "It is, isn't it! It's universal, and just- you don't even need words to communicate, all you need are some notes and feelings," she said, her eyes lighting up at the thought of music and notes.

Another smile appeared on her lips, "I'm Lydia, nice to meet you August!" she said, and then shook her head. "I'd really like a friend," Lydia admitted, her cheeks slightly redder from the confession. She also felt bad for basically laying all of her insecurities out like that on the poor August; she really needed to get a grip on herself, she was definitely better than that. Once the song they were dancing to stopped, Lydia smiled to August again before motioning with her head towards the refreshment table. "Would you like something to drink? After all this dancing I think something cool would be nice," she asked, when a loud crash got her attention. Following her instinct, the red headed girl reached for her wand, ready to defend herself; after the last ball she was ready for anything. Her eyes fixed on the ghost rider, she soon realised that the window wasn't actually broken, and she relaxed only a little as the ghost spoke. His words about some danger made her shiver, as she remembered her talk with Rafael at the beginning of the year; weird things were happening in the school... could the ghost know something about them?

Shaking her head, Lydia put away her wand and looked back at August; tonight she would have stayed out of troubles, no drama or conspiracy theories. "I'm sorry, I think my duelling Captain side took the best of me," she apologised, before smiling again at the boy "so- something to drink?" she asked again as the music in the background turned slightly creeper, but still really enjoyable. As she waited for an answer, Lydia's eyes scanned the room, finding someone... dressed as Tinkerbell and Peter Pan ? Well, that was definitely an amazing costume idea in her opinion. She then continued looking around, and saw someone walk and attempt to punch the person that was dancing with the mysterious human with the wonderful leaves dress. At least this time it's not Rafael punching people left and right. she thought.*

Zyk's assurance that he wasn't going to run earned a nod and a pleased smile in return. "I'll hold you to that," she warned him, then snorted at his reply to her question, her eyebrows quirking up in something between amusement and disbelief. "What kind of answer is that? What, you Irish are all born knowing how to dance? Learn how to waltz in kindergarten?" She grinned at the mental image of four year-old Zyk spinning a partner around a dance floor.

A hint of confusion appeared on Dee's face when he mentioned having seen Ileen last night, and her eyebrows rose behind her mask. There was a faint trace of amusement in her voice when she asked, "You saw Ileen last night? What, did you dream about her?"

Off the dance floor, Dealla took another sip of the punch he'd given her, then laughed at his explanations, bright and tinkling. "Yes, extremely surprising," she teased back. "So far, all my experience with Irish food involved potatoes." She smiled at the mention of his mother. He seemed reluctant to talk about anything involving his childhood and home, so the remark, as casual as it was, was... nice. "Bread with stuff, huh. Sounds fascinating. Is that a special Halloween thing?"

Her smile faded a bit, and she pushed the candy from one cheek to the other, her eyes thoughtful. It was lemon-flavoured - a rather normal Muggle sweet, really. "How are they deceiving? More deceiving than other things, I mean." Anything could be deceiving. Sweets had rarely betrayed her so far - although she supposed the people at the Costume Party might feel differently at this point.

Blinking when his cryptic next words pulled her back to the conversation, she turned her head to look at him. "Huh?" she asked, her voice confused. Odd? What was? Frowning, she watched as he pulled his wand from the holster he was wearing, and started spinning it around his fingers. His words sounded like he was just waiting for disaster to strike.

She'd already opened her mouth, the questions on the tip of her tongue, when the ghost came crashing through the window on his horse, and effectively drew all the attention to himself, but the words lingered at the back of her head. They'd sounded ominous, like a goodbye of sorts, much more foreboding to her than the speech the knight delivered.

The mood shifted a little, relaxed, after the rider had disappeared, but Zyk was still spinning his wand around his fingers in a movement that was obviously so practiced it didn't require any active thought. She couldn't help but follow it with her eyes as it spun, round and round, a frown drawing her eyebrows together behind the mask. "The ghost is gone, though," she pointed out, trying to take some comfort in the warmth of his shoulder next to hers. The spinning made her nervous, restless. "And so is everyone who wanted to follow the clue." She tried for a light joke, unwilling to let the sudden swing in mood pull her down. "At least nothing's on fire yet, right?"

There were a few seconds of silence, in which, for once, she didn't know what more to say, before the odd atmosphere was thankfully interrupted by a new arrival. Dee's face lit up with a brilliant smile when she recognized the voice - not that it was very hard to guess who was approaching them, given the nickname he used. There was only one boy she was aware of who called her Aphrodite, after all. "Prometheus!" she replied, excitement audible in her voice, then paused and blinked as she took in his costume. She likely wouldn't have recognised him if he hadn't addressed her, and a surprised giggle bubbled up her throat. "Or... Tinkerbell, is it?" She leaned a bit closer so she could reach around him to carefully touch his wings with the fingertips of her right hand. "Can you fly with those?"

Ruka did make a good Tinkerbell, she thought, all green and sparkly. He'd even dyed, or probably charmed, his hair blond for the occasion. The impressively tall top hat, however, was an interesting accessory choice for a fairy, but he wore it with grace. Or, well, as gracious as one could be while holding a ridiculously tall hat up with one hand to keep it from slipping from one's head.

At the compliment, she pushed away from the table for another twirl, showing off her dress, smiling widely, and ending in a ridiculous little pose, hands on her hips. It wasn't quite as sparkly as Ruka was, but the decorations still caught and reflected the candlelight that lit the ballroom, and the main point were the light, feathery fringes that swished around her with every movement, anyway.

"Oh, you're not interrupting," she replied, turning her head to Zyk for confirmation. The mask was blocking her peripheral vision, which was fine when only talking to one person at a time, but got annoying rather fast when trying to focus on two. Frowning for a second, she added, "Wait, do you two know each other? Zyk, meet Ruka. You're both among the select few who got to enjoy my phenomenal dancing skills at some point." Following Ruka's gesture, she noticed pair of boys seemingly floating in mid-air near the edges of the Ball. She didn't recognize them from the distance, but her eyes widened, and then her grin followed. She offered them a grin and a little wave. "Oh, you brought Peter, too!" Her eyebrows lifted slightly in amusement, delighted at this new discovery. Her mother owned a copy of the Peter Pan novel, loved it dearly. She'd read it to Dee more than once, and tended to compare her father to Peter when he was being especially ridiculous. Not that they were all that similar: Jonathan had grown up, after all, and settled down. Dee had seen some of the movie adaptions, too. "And a frog? And they can fly. Can you make me fly, too, Tinkerbell?"

Smiling, she leaned back against the table, and nodded at Ruka's explanation that they had only just arrived. "You were at the Costume Party first, then? How are things going there? I maybe wanted to stop by later, try some of the Tricky Treats." There was obvious pride in her voice. Although the idea hadn't originally been hers, the result contained work and influence from all of their little organiser group.

"Here..." Her eyes swept the Ballroom, or what she could see of it. "You missed the spectacular entrance of a spectral horseman. He hinted at doom and mystery, and... hold on." Finally annoyed with the feeling of the mask on her face, she untied it with quick fingers, setting it down on the table behind her. Then, she closed her eyes to focus better, and recited from memory:
"Time is running out!
Something terrible is creeping about this castle, and if no one stops it, tragedy cannot be avoided.
If no one steps up to face this challenge, we are all doomed.
Follow the graceful apparition to find the riddle’s first piece - and if you need my help, call my full name.
"

Obviously rather satisfied with herself, she opened her eyes again, face serious but eyes alight. "Then he disappeared, and everyone else followed what seemed to be the spirit of a cat. What do you think, Prometheus, Fire-Bringer? In the mood for some mystery, saving the school from tragedy? You could probably still catch up with them."

The reference to their dance in the woods sparked another delighted smile, now not obscured behind a mask, her eyes shining. "I'd be honoured to have another dance, with or without music." The statement was followed by a quick, bobbing curtsy, and a pleased laugh, more at her own ridiculousness than anything else.

His eyes scanned the room - the ghost rider appeared to be a simple theatric, what with the smashing of the window that did not actually break and the dramatic flair of an incident. One that he could appreciate, as long as the event did not turn into the disaster of the last. He did watch the rider for a moment, making sure that this was nothing but an act. Any real signs of danger, after all, could be expected. After what happened last year, he would not be surprised.

He smiled, giving a nod of his head - which was more drastic than most people might have done perhaps, like a bow of his head - towards the lovely companion he had. A beautiful woman dressed in black, "I must say, you look after lovely - and I quite like that we came matching," Lazarus added, with a grin, complimenting the woman by his side and on his arm. By matching, it was mostly that they both chose black. He just opted to come as Zorro. This satisfied one important need: he could enter both the masquerade and the costume party. After all, he was still in search of someone and that student did not appear to be here - at least, not that he could tell.

Perhaps if he was on the dance floor, he would have a better view of others. Their masks made things a little more awkward, of course. The student's main feature had been his height. That would likely give it away but it had been some time since Lazarus had spotted him. A growth spurt would not have been out of the question.

He escorted Maya to the middle of the room, approaching the dance floor. Browne was not too far away. There were also some other adults around, it would seem. Though a name was definitely out of the question of his memory. The old man - Solomon Lear? No... Ah no, that was the Headmaster of that French Artsy school, no? They were probably rather good at drama. He could only imagine the plays! It would have been wonderful to watch.

Lazarus stood in front of, raising his hand into position. Taking hers in one and placing the other on her, he began to lead her into the dance as soon as she was ready. "It is an absolute honour, of course! A fine institution, if not the best out there. In the years I have been there, it's only strengthened and grown to new heights. I have no doubt that the current cohort of students will live to be the leaders of their generation," Lazarus - oh so humbly - boosted and bragged about the successes of Ilvermorny, "Of course, it lacked some pizzazz until I arrived. Under my guidance, it has grown splendidly. Perfectly splendid, indeed." He smirked as he reflected on the amazingness that was Ilvermorny - and himself. With a nod of his head, to himself, he pondered some more silently.

Of course with it being a school dance, all that Alexander could see around him were people having fun, dancing with their crushes and their friends. Why did he have to be so paranoid? The young boy shook his head, trying to regain some control over the reality and analyse the situation better. Right before they left Durmstrang to come to Hogwarts, he had gotten a letter from Lydia, in which she told him she had some news about things that were happening in the school, that someone had told her; that of course had left the young wizard curious, but also concerned. He himself had heard some rumours, voices about some new Dark Lord that had been trying to gain power... nothing certain, of course, just some things that he would hear while walking through the corridors of his school. The weird feeling remained still, and the young wizard could not relax completely.

However, the longer he simply stood there, or sat down on a chair, the more bored he grew; nothing was happening, neither bad or good, and Alexander had just decided to go back to his temporary room, when a ghost had decided to break through a window. As soon as he heard his words, the young wizard became incredibly interested; could that be connected to the weird happenings that Lydia had talked about? Without hesitation, Alexander decided to follow the ghost and the cat, determined to find out what was happening.

The punch followed through, no doubt due to the fact that Vladimir clearly didn’t see it coming. That, or he did and just took it. Didn’t matter, anyway. It felt great. Flash’s smile finally found him again, his own carelessness lifting a burden from his heart. He doubted anything he could have said would have wiped the smile off Vladimir's face, so at least he got the pleasure of being an inconvenience.

A sharp gasp to his side notified him of Vladimir’s horrified date, no doubt consumed with thoughts about Flash and what kind of person he was. For the moment, he didn’t care how he came off. If she actually knew Vladimir, she likely wouldn’t be so shocked. An unknown. Had to keep an eye on her.

It wasn’t long before Flash was taken down by a debilitating, trained kick. I'm just going to let it auto-hit, I'll apply damage in the next mod. The precision would make one think a professional bodyguard had taken immediate action, as Flash was thrown to one knee to catch himself from toppling over. As much as it hurt like hell, it wasn’t much more than a warning, as Selim came into view and made his position clear. Don’t fight Vlad. Not a shocking standpoint or heel turn in the slightest, more like friendly advice. As friendly as Selim could manage to someone who was in no way a friend.

”Come on, Selim. I’m hardly a threat.” Flash stood back up, his back still radiating pain. ”I wasn’t looking for a fight. Just being a pest.”

Flash would look at both of them, a small smile still subtly growing on his face. He wasn’t lying at all, he knew Vladimir could wipe the floor with him, even without Selim’s help. With it, he might not even have the chance to take a breath before it was lights out. He just didn't care. What were the chances he would fight back, anyway? Was he really the type, especially in front of a date? More likely he was going to play the sympathy card, just like at the Blossom Ball. Poor thing.

Really, Selim's intervention made de-escalation all the easier. If Flash left after being warned away, any further pursuit of the issue would come off as petty. Whether Vladimir cared about coming off as petty was unknown. The less Flash knew about him, the better.

”If he didn’t want a punch in the face, he shouldn’t have gone out and earned it.” He really ought to have been above sarcastic jabs, but the spirit took him. He knew it was only going to be a matter of time before the wind was taken out of his sails, so he might as well enjoy it.

If neither of them spoke further, he would walk away.

Of course it may have only been due to the fact that he had a particular nickname for her, but the fact that Dealla didn't even need to look at him for her to recognise him made Ruka beam in delight, a little bounce easing the last couple of steps he was taking in her direction. A part of him had been concerned that she may have minded him interrupting her time with her date, but she seemed about as delighted to see him as he was to see her. The realisation made his worries fly out the window almost immediately.

When she did take a proper look at his costume, Ruka prepared himself for the inevitable laughter about to follow, but all there was was the sound of a bubbly giggle that made his lips stretch even wider, eyes sparkling fondly behind his mask. As if expecting a hug, he raised his arms a little awkwardly when she leaned closer only to trace her fingers across his wings, almost as if checking if they were real. Deciding to give into his new role, Ruka straightened up to stand on the tip of his toes, sighing heavily when the act did not make him lift up into the air. "I suppose my thoughts might not be happy enough," he stated dramatically, clutching a hand to his chest before steadying himself on his heels again and offering Dealla yet another bright smile. "Though they're definitely improving in your presence." He chuckled and winked playfully before taking a small step back to give her enough space to show off her dress with a twirl.

Watching her movements in silent awe, Ruka offered her some applause once she had come to a halt in a pose with her hands on her hips, the fringes of her dress still swaying lightly as if not quite ready to cease dancing just yet. Ruka would have probably not paid much attention to the little details of her dress had it been anybody else, but Dealla's presence was consuming, made him feel like he couldn't really look away without missing out on something spectacular.

It was for that reason, most likely, that he almost felt surprised when she introduced him to her date, and he had to blink a few times before he could bring himself to tip his Top Hat in Zyk's direction as if he had forgotten about him being there as well. "Zyk," he said politely, offering a silly little curtesy in the other boy's direction before turning his attention on the two boys hovering on the invisible broom nearby as Dealla addressed them with newfound delight. There was something childlike and innocent in her glee that made Ruka's features soften, his shoulders relax, his voice turn gentle as he spoke again.

"I'm sure that can be arranged," he said with a little nod. It would have been wrong of him to pull her away from her date to ridiculously let her hover on their invisible broom, would it not? So he decided to leave it at an open promise for the moment.

Instead he nodded in response to her words about the Costume Party, raised his eyebrows suspiciously at the pride in her voice when she brought up the Tricky Treats. "It's quite something," he told her under amused chuckles. "There's a lot of... uh... Hair." More laughter bubbled from his chest as he let his thoughts drift back to the Costume Party. Whatever the party goers had consumed, it had done wonders for the hair growth of most of them. "I haven't tried any of the treats yet myself so..." He shrugged lightly. "If you do go and check it out make sure to save me one."

Or maybe he could have just accompanied her to the Rehearsal Room.

Or maybe he should be paying more attention to his own Ball Company.

Still, he kept his eyes on her as her own drifted across the Ballroom and all its current inhabitants as if to look for the memory of all the happenings he had missed out on. The mention of doom and mystery sparked interest in him that made him bounce on the spot for a moment, eyes lighting up curiously as he watched Dealla removing her mask before she recited what Ruka could only assume had been the Horseman's words before he rode off into the hallways.

"I don't fancy myself much of a hero," he admitted, leaning a bit closer as if entrusting Dealla with all of his secrets. "But I do like mystery."

A glance behind him told him that Jack and Jake were still close by, still hovering mid air, and it would have been easy for Ruka to make the decision for them to follow the Horseman. Having pressed himself against Jack for comfort, Jake didn't seem like he was going to go anywhere without them, and if Ruka knew his brother as well as he thought he did, he assumed that he was certainly not averse to some adventure either.

Still, Ruka didn't feel like he was quite ready to leave yet.

"To follow a ghost and solve a mystery or to stick around for another dance with a Goddess?", he mused, voice laced with amusement, though the consideration was genuine. "Unless..." He hummed thoughtfully as he took a few steps back and towards his two companions. "You'd like to join me on this Quest?" A bright smile stretched his lips so wide it made his cheeks hurt.

Reaching behind him and grabbing the shaft of his broom, Ruka managed to hop onto it with as much grace as years of Fire Dance had allowed him to develop, and he gently ruffled the top of Jake's frog costume as he made himself comfortable in front of the young Hufflepuff, successfully sandwiching him between Ruka and Jack.

Steering the broom closer to Dealla, Ruka reached into his little pouch of glitter to pull some of it out and blow it in the girl's direction, eyes wide and excited. "It might be a good opportunity to learn how to fly," he suggested once the glitter had settled in her hair and on her shoulders, giving her outfit even more sparkle than there had been before.

"Well, boys," he said brightly towards Jack and Jake, slowly steering the broom towards the exit again, slow enough for Dealla to catch up if she wanted to. "I think I found us some pirates to hunt." He chuckled lightly. "Or something like that at least."

With one more look at Dealla, Ruka let out an excited laugh. "C'mon, Aphrodite," he called towards her, beckoning her to follow with a simple hand gesture. "Adventure awaits."

With that, he followed the Ghost out of the Ballroom, Peter and their Lost Boy still in tow.

‘She was a little dramatic one, wasn’t she?’ thought the fellow dramatic one. Who cares if his specialty was morally right? And her name? Like he’s ever going to use his energy to remember it after this. Seeing her correct him on her name had only encouraged him to say anything but her name. “ Okay, Marylyn ~” he sarcastically responded after her unneeded explanation finished while he followed her to her target. Still uncomfortable with how he was dragged into his situation, he was the one that nudged it in the first place. The figured the least he could do was see the drama unfolding itself between the 1st year friends.

Starlee, her name? Seeing what she was wearing had given Hanako enough explanation of the whole situation. A matching set of the stars and the moon? How adorable. At least it would’ve been if a little mix-up hadn't happened. What was odd was how they escalated it this much. Oh, who was he kidding? He would’ve done the same. He had to go through the excruciating pain of keeping his face neural instead of laughing like a mad man at Martyna’s realization of not knowing his name. Serves her right for asking him out on a date without knowing his name. Which was why he was unable to react before Small Star had interjected, insisting she also had a date. He loved how cooly she responded. To him, it seemed like a silent challenge of ‘ who was having the best time ‘. Was this what they said about the special silent language that girls speak? A heated battle disguised as a friendly conversation. A battle he wanted in.

He took a deep breath and showed the Small Star an innocent face that he used countless times to fool others into thinking he was what he appeared to be. In this case, not an a-hole. “ Hanako Tone “ he sweetly responded, silently hoping never to be called fish boy ever again. “ Forgive me for the late introduction. My Little Moon here was just hesitant on what she should address me as~” he softly patted the paper bag Martyna wore with a gentle smile. “ What were some of them, Martyna? “ He smiled innocently which meant a whole other meaning to Martyna but Starlee didn’t need to know that. At the moment he was just a loving date~ That’s what she wanted, right? “ Hmmm.. Honey because of my eyes? Dear because I’ve been one since we met~? H a n d s o m e ~ ? ” He sent a wink to his ‘date’ and held back from laughing. ”No need to be shy in front of your friend~. I’m sure her lovely date has some cute nicknames as well, hm~?” While he intended to embarrass the Moon, he was here to do the same to the Star. After all, he was only here to have fun. Not make friends. Even if he had to be this cringy lover boy.

Speaking of your date~ Where did he go~” he pretended to look around looking dramatically astounded that her date was nowhere to be found. An action that can be interpreted as something along the lines of ‘ you’re not convincing me enough~’. He actually didn’t know if she really had one but if she was previously friends with someone like the Little Moon, Hanako could only expect the best from her. And by the best, he meant playing a huge part in making his night entertaining. And by that, he meant making a fool of herself for doing the same silly thing his Little Moon was doing. 1st years are so fun to have around~.

She then subtly implied how Martyna and him weren’t wearing clothes that were as stunning as others, to which Hanako was tempted to nod and agree with much enthusiasm. Alas, talking about how bad his clothes were and put the blame on his butler was not as much fun as playing around with these two. With that in mind, Hanako fired her back with the same look she gave them with less guilt while wearing his plastered borderline creepy k i n d smile. “ I couldn’t agree more, friend~”. He wasn’t 6. Minor insults on stuff like his clothes affected him as little as none. But it might have not been the same for his temporary date. The two were friends before, right? Hanako knew first hand of the troubles that came along with calling someone a companion. While he wanted to spill drinks on both of these first years for multiple reasons, one of them was lucky enough to find him first.

Just as he was about to very kindly complement Martyna’s friend, a huge crash had interrupted him and everyone in the Masquerade Ball. Their ghostly voice boomed the ballroom with terror and urgency that Hanako couldn’t help but…

A d m i r e their acting skills. Wow, they really went all out this year, huh? Getting a ghost actor to come in and start some friendly non-harmful in any mentally or physically way Halloween games to really get the students in the Halloween spirits. And the best part? THE CAT WAS GONE! HORAH FOR HIS EMOTIONAL ALLERGIES! Hanako got enthralling chills and glee from the performance and the disappearance of that drat ghost cat that he almost clapped until his eyes set themselves on a certain tall blondie.

He heard it took a total of 5 seconds to completely flip your emotions to another, enabling the brain to completely change its train of thought depending on the present. Well, the moment he saw Percival dancing lovingly with that two-faced little shit @Opeila Winters he felt something else crashed without leaving traces like that ghost actor when he crashed into the ballroom. His heart maybe? The ghost actor crashed in the ballroom sure but he hasn’t actually broken anything. The glass shards turned into puff smoke the second they fell on the floor and disappeared without a trace. The same could not be said for Hanako’s facial expression as he blanky stared at the...couple.

Was he just like these two idiotic first years? When had he misunderstood Percy wanted to go with him? Feeling more complex emotions arising, he hastily snatched Paper Bag Chan off Martyna’s head and placed it on his own, completely shielding the face he didn’t want to show anyone at the moment. And that was the face of someone’s heart that has been broken into a million pieces. Thanks a lot ( @Percival Rainwood )

At the moment he couldn’t hear anything. Not the incoming of the new knight that came to the Star’s rescue. Not that they needed to anyway. If this was chess and Hanako was one of the more powerful pieces she decided to use against Starlee, then Hanako’s chess piece had grown legs and started running off the chessboard alone before the other enemy could even make a move. He was too focused on keeping his thoughts to the bare minimum with the image of pee-pee pie and Percival dancing burned his mind just waiting for the scars to burn him deeper. But he did manage to send the purple-haired hero a rude gesture to show just how he didn’t need their existence at the moment. Fortunately, they had turned to leave and there left 3. An emotionally troublesome Moon that is now exploring her petty side, the Star that could lengthen an argument yet feel guilty about it, and an unknown fish boy that came to have fun and now is attacked by feelings he didn’t want. What would happen to their conversation from now? By now, the two should know something had happened to suddenly make the talkative stranger so... quiet. What’s clear is that he definitely wouldn’t be joining the 1st years if their curiosities got the best of them. Curiosities or petty competitiveness, either way, he’s staying. Just him and his broken heart.

Silver fought the raging urge to scowl at Alexei as she heard his words. Seemingly a perfect gentleman, it was clear the boy's statement was practically dripping sarcasm even as he assured her he wished to keep dancing with her. She simply forced her features into a sickeningly sweet smile, however, and stared him straight into the eyes, a challenge flashing in her own. "Of course, любовь." Silver didn't really speak Russian, of course, and she highly doubted that Alexei had expected her to understand his words, much less respond with her own. However, her parents had been adamant that she learn the basics of the language as soon as the final agreements for Alexei to be paired with Silver for the ball were arranged, and her brief and hurried studies had included certain terms of endearment. It was always useful to appear knowledgeable, after all, and Silver craved the look of surprise she did not doubt would visit Alexei's face at her statement.

He led her into a spin, then, sparing her from having to hide the flash of annoyance that would certainly have come had she seen the wink he shot her. "Why red? It draws the eye, of course." She stepped closer to him as the music slowed, a warning clear in her eyes that this somewhat intimate gesture was not an invitation of any sort for him to get comfortable with his hands again. "How kind. And you? I see you wore red as well . . . it was to compliment my own colors, I assume?" She was just about to suggest they move to the middle of the dance floor, make themselves seen and admired by all, when a deafening crashing noise came from one side of the room. Snapping her head around to face the sound, Silver watched, face not betraying her newly hammering heart, as a ghostly horseback rider burst through the windows into the grand ballroom.

"Time is running out!

Something terrible is creeping about this castle, and if no one stops it, tragedy cannot be avoided.

If no one steps up to face this challenge, we are all doomed.

Follow the graceful apparition to find the riddle's first piece - and if you need my help, call my full name."

Her eyebrow quirked, Silver turned back to her date. "It seems we have some sort of a mystery event on our hands." A part of her brain went to the possible dangers following the "graceful apparition," which seemed to be a ghostly cat, could pose, but the rest of her refused to acknowledge it. The real question was, after all, whether it would be suitable for her to partake in the event. Her mother would insist she stay and dance with Alexei, but Silver figured she had already done this for far too long and besides, it was clear that the attention of the room was now spun too deeply around the ghostly rider to pay any mind to Silver and Alexei's dances together, no matter how impressive a couple they may appear to be. So, with the need to continue forcing herself to stay in Alexei's presence gone, Silver could only conclude that the best course to take now was to follow the cat and solve the mystery. The Ventresses never backed down from a challenge, after all.

Barely glancing at Alexei, she abruptly said, "I'm going to solve it. You can come along if you wish." Without waiting for a response, Silver spun on her heel and strode purposefully out of the ballroom.

The night felt like it was going to just be simply magical; and not just in the usual sense. What broke the mood was the sudden shattering of the window... though, it didn't stay that way as the window suddenly shattered with the applause of the thunder outside, nearly blowing out the ballroom's candles before they flickered back to life and a horseman started through the middle of the ballroom, shouting his strange foreboding. It piqued every bit of the girl's curiosity, and need to understand what was happening and she nearly questioned Ruby if they ought to go after it... At least, that was until she noticed a fight breaking out not too far off.

She'd done he best not to pay any mind to it before, after all she'd rather not get involved in anything that didn't concern her, but that mindset was quickly shifted when a flash of a familiar cobalt colored outfit recycled from last year's dance caught her eye. Illowy stopped in her tracks with Ruby when she watched the first spell hit her cousin and a spark of rage fanned in her chest were the butterflies once were, and her whole body tensed.

Pale eyes flickered towards her date for just a moment, giving her hand a small squeeze, "I'm sorry, I just... I need to take care of something really quick." she gave the Prefect's gloved hand a light peck before reluctantly releasing the girl from her arms, already shoving a hand in the pocket of her dress to retrieve her wand. Her heart broke slightly at leaving Ruby behind, unsure if she'd wait for her or perhaps follow suit towards the fight. She was a Prefect after all, she had some level of authority right? Either way, Illowy wasn't the sort to stand aside if someone she loved needed her. Especially Kyle.

As she drew her wand, quickly encroaching on the fight. Her ghostly gaze assessed the situation as quickly as she could, taking note of a few people, some knew better then others; She recognized Nico from Summer Camp, having shared a tent with her. They'd gotten along fairly well, at least well enough to have no trouble thus far, though she'd hardly call the girl a friend by any means. Erin, of course she was involved in this mess. Illowy hardly knew her beyond reputation, and it didn't settle well to see her in such close proximity to her family. Finally; Santario, her dueling co-captain... Illowy really did have a way of getting herself into situations she shouldn't.

Whatever spell Santario seemed to have intended for her cousin, thankfully didn't come to fruition as Illowy raised her wand at her housemate, "Expelliarmus!" she spoke sharply, hoping to disarm her fellow snake as she placed herself between her co-captain and her cousin, "That's enough, Martin!" she barked, pale eyes narrowed, "You don't touch him." the girl practically growled.

Did Illowy have any idea what was happening? Not at all. It didn't matter. Maybe Kyle had it coming, maybe not, but she didn't care. That was a question for some other time when tensions were lower.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.
