2020, Stage 1 Group B: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw

She'd missed the last one, but her Disarming Charm hit, just barely! Cel winced as the spell almost missed, then took a moment to congratulate herself for her success and luck, exhaling at knowing that there was now only one source of damage she had to watch out for, at least for the few seconds that the charm had bought them.

Her partner dodged—good choice, if she could judge. She couldn't tell if Calanthe's spell would've hit them if they hadn't dodged, but it made the shot go wide, knockback jinx sailing into the wall behind them harmlessly. Maybe it was the stress of it all, but Katrina didn't cast at all, which she was thankful for: neither her nor Mars had to evade two spells, since if they had then she might've lost her concentration and missed by the little hair by which she hit.

The duel was going quite slow, though, as Katrina had commented earlier—nobody had gotten hurt yet, not that she'd made very many attempts to offend yet. Mars had dodged quite a few turns, too, but that meant that both of them were still unscathed and ready to cast with no handicaps. "Nobody can get hurt if you don't hit us, either," she pointed out with a playful smile. Yeah, Svana was going to kill her when she got home, but she could see why Dorian liked trash talk so much now. She glanced over her partner, making sure the younger wix was unscathed, before tilting her head at their opponents, silently communicating in the little time they had between casts.

This was getting a bit frustrating. The duel was going nowhere and she was indecisive with what she was going to do. Calenthe wasn't looking too well either, the Curse of the Bogies wasn't a great thing to deal with. She couldn't fight it forever.

Katrina needed to get stuff done and spells successfully cast before her teammate was eliminated.

Mars smiled as they stepped out of the incoming spell's path. It was infinitely easier to dodge when they weren't focused on backfiring a spell into their own face.

Flipping their wand over, they noticed Katrina hadn't casted this round. Hmm, maybe she'd gotten tired. Looking over at Cel, they traced the beam of her charm as it hit its target, wand flying out of the poor lioness' hand.

"Yes!" they muttered quietly, eyes more focused on what was to come. From the looks of it, that cold wasn't going away any time soon. They figured she wouldn't be a problem in a few rounds time.

Focusing their energy back to Katrina, Mars gave her a grin. They flipped their wand again, running a finger along the wooden groves.

"This is fun, isn't it?" they grinned.

Light-headed and unable to think, Calanthe wiped some of the snot dripping from her nose and tried shaking it off on the flooring of the stage. It was a good thing she was not trying to keep up a pretty face for someone in the crowd. She could not imagine how atrocious she looked or how embarrassing it was that she and her partner could not land a single hit.

While Mars T'ien almost danced in their spot presumably to dodge a spell though none targeted them this time around, Miss Choi went looking for her wand only for her momentary distraction of picking it back up to cost her, as Miss Gray's Body-Bind Curse once again found its target, freezing Miss Choi in the middle of righting herself – wand in hand and all. However, in concentrating on her spell, the Ravenclaw did not see the one targeting her or at least she did not notice it in time to evade. Instead she would now feel the onset of a cold.

“Well, this is really a different kind of duel than usual.” Zahid could not help but comment in a whisper.

The duel was progressing slowly. They grinned as Cel's spell hit right on its mark, freezing her in place. She'd found her wand beforehand, which was unfortunate, but Mars was banking on the cold from earlier rendering her unable to duel. Maybe they'd able to knock her out without damaging her at all.

Too focused on their parter's results, Mars barely caught Katrina's spell out of their peripheral vision. They ducked... only to watch it arc into Celynne. Sh*t. They could only play target for so long apparently.

Their grimace deepened as they realized what spell that'd been. Of all the first spells they could've landed, it had to be that one? Sighing, they righted themselves, half a step in front of the Fourth Year.

"You okay?" they asked her, eyes trained on Katrina. Hmm, now it was getting interesting.

Something hit her in the shoulder, and Cel stumbled back a couple of steps—but it wasn't painful, didn't damage her much physically. Instead she felt the beginnings of a cold coming, nose beginning to run. She cursed inwardly—should've seen something coming her way.

Oh well, at least her spell had hit. Her opponent had managed to get ahold of her wand, but instantly froze and fell—again, she was starting to feel sorry—and gave Cel enough reassurance to turn back and blink to clear her eyes, which were starting to water a bit. She nodded to Mars, mentally thanking them for checking—"Yes, I'm fine." she wasn't hurt, but this would screw up her concentration quite a bit over time if it got much worse. Well, nothing left to do but endure it.

Feeling herself fall limp for a second time, Calanthe wished she had given more attention to the Petrificus Totalus spell in her studies. She succeeded in breaking out of the curse the first time around, though, using all of her luck it seemed. At least Katrina was able to hit Celynne with the bogies curse. Knowing exactly how the older raven was feeling right about now, Calanthe eyed Katrina to see what her next step would be.
