Messager type bag

The day was sunny and proved to be a nice day which so many people took advantage of as almost every student could be seen outside on the day off. Henry Knight was included in this, dressed in his worn out jeans, long sleeve grey shirt, and faded greenish jacket with his messager type bag perched on his shoulder he made his way down the steps of the great hall then out the exit to the clear blue sky and breezy day. The first year started while the grounds in search of one of his friends to hang out with or talk to but even if he couldn't find anyone then he would be fine picking a tree to sit under and read one of the many books in his bag.

After a few minutes of searching for a friend he couldn't find anyone and decided it was better to go find somewhere to sit and read because no knows maybe a friend would find him. Henry looked around for a spot and it turns out that most of the grounds were full due to such the great day it was and the end of exams so Henry made his way down the grounds and closer to the back lake where he would hopefully find somewhere to sit as Henry was looking for a place to read he wasn't paying attention to where he was going or who was around him.

JUNE 20TH
@Henry Knight

Scarlett's day was, admittedly, rather alright so far. It was a relaxed day, one with the sun breaking through any traces of wispy clouds, one with the weather at a pleasant warm temperature. People might've scoffed. English weather, British weather, being a 'pleasant, warm temperature'? Unthinkable. Unfathomable, even. But here they were - the students of Hogwarts flocking to the grounds, in an attempt to sunbathe, catch up with friends, drink ice-cold lemonade and enjoy the summery day while it lasted.

Scarlett had decided to follow her classmates into the balmy sunshine, suiting up in the appropriate attire - a loose white top and shorts, a pair of pink novelty sunglasses shaped like stars placed on her fiery red hair. She had recently found out that, while average colours normally looked terrible on her and clashed with her hair, blacks, whites, greys and browns did not. So she had taken to wearing more of these colours, growing accustomed to their shade.

Her dark-brown eyes swept across the grounds, skimming and scanning everyone, searching for a friend. Anyone would be preferable to being alone really. Lucia, Aurelia, Rose...where were they? She was about to turn back to the castle, in an attempt to look for her friends, when she saw-

Oh hell no, thought Scarlett. A nervous feeling lay in the pit of her stomach. A nervous one. Scarlett Aden was never scared. Never 'nervous' or 'anxious' or anything like that. She was - she was -

Not him. Anyone but him.

She was nervous alright.

The Gryffindor had caught a glimpse of a boy - a lean and skinny one with light blue eyes and dark-brown hair. The appearance may have been rather generic, but she would know that face anywhere. Lips slowly twisting into a frown, eyes narrowing in what looked like barely-suppressed rage and desperation, she started to walk briskly to her target. Henry Knight.

Scarlett saw him hanging around, probably looking for somewhere to sit and read. It was always sit and read with Henry. When the two had first met, Henry had been sitting and he had been reading.

She marched up to him with no care in the world about how people might react. Her voice was shaking with fury already. Her eyes were cold and determined.

"And where do you think you've been, Henry?" asked Scarlett sarcastically. "Been having fun, I don't know, ditching your childhood friends?"

Henry continued his walk down the grounds as he looked over at the others all laughing and chatting with their friends like they were have a fun time. Henry longed to join them but the boy wasn't brave or confident yet like he would be in his second year, right now he was to nervous and worried not to mention his anxiety was working overtime as he looked at every possible way he could mess up talking to someone. Henry didn't have to many social skills so he couldn't imagine walking to a stranger and saying hi even through he really wanted to laugh and chat with friends, speaking of friends Henry didn't see any of them there either so he really did have one option left.

Henry looked around for a spot to sit and probably read or think, after a while he found it. A large oak tree in the edge of the black lake and also a bit away from others, it was perfect. Henry started to make his way over when his path was cut of by a fire like red hair girl and her words "And where do you think you've been, Henry? Been having fun, I don't know, ditching your childhood friends?"

Henry turned and instantly recognized the face, even if it's been around two years Henry would know the red haired and dark brown eyes anywhere. They belonged to Scarlett Aden, a childhood friend that lived in godric hollow with him. Lived as in, when he was 10 years old his father moved their family to Liverpool, England and now here was Scarlett balding him for something that wasn't his fault.

" S..Scarlett?" Henry strutted which increased the boy's nerves and anxiety since he hardly ever stuttered anymore but he did just now. Henry ran a quick hand through his hand in attempts to calm himself before speaking " I didn't ditch you. My father was forcing us to move to Liverpool and I was ten so it's not like I had a choice in the matter," still feeling queasy with nerves Henry somehow spoke again " and I wrote t..to you if you remembered every week. You were t..the one that stop writing, why did you s..stop?"

apologise for the long wait <3

She didn't care how much she wanted to hug him in a sisterly manner. She didn't care that it had been two years since they had last seen each other. She didn't care that they had been best friends. She didn't care about his stutter. She just didn't care.

Knight had moved away. Her first friend. Gone. Never to be seen again until now. And without warning as well! Scarlett couldn't believe the little asshole had the audacity to abandon her like that. She already had trust issues what with her dad leaving the family in a state of distraught. And then Knight as well? It had almost been too much for the little girl to handle, and she remembered punching and screaming and breaking everything in her room once she had learnt that Knight had gone frolicking off to Liverpool. Stupid name for a stupid boy.

Scarlett forced down the wrenching pain as she watched Henry - no, Knight - try and hold himself together. She forced down real emotion. There would be no sympathy today. With narrowed eyes, Scarlett pretended to tune out what Knight was saying, watching with a bored expression on her face. She gave a mock yawn and narrowed her eyes at the boy. She wouldn't go in for the kill just yet. "I recall waking up one day with the news that you had left for fucking Liverrpool. Now, I don't care about anything you say apart from the answer to my question - why did you leave?"

The last bit was uttered with almost a snarl, and Scarlett admittedly looked rather dangerous as she advanced on the poor boy. If she had listened, she might've known the answer to her question, but admitting than she had listened to his breaking monologue was too much of a wound to her pride. She thought more about how he has left. She grew angry. A hot feeling started at the tips of her toes, working its way up before she cracked, lurched forward and grabbed his arm hard. And not in a friendly way. "TELL ME WHY DID YOU LEAVE?" she half-screamed, half-cried. Ohhh, Scarlett definitely had attachment problems, trust problems and most of all...anger problems.

No Worries and sorry for the wait on my end to ;)

Two years actually a bit more than two years it's been and still some things never change while some did. Henry watched Scarlett as memories he thought he forgot came rushing back to him, he tried to remain emotionless but with such joyful and tearful memories it was hard but somewhere after having years of practice concealing his emotions he was able to.

Still he couldn't stop himself from feeling bad for leaving Scarlett even though it wasn't his fault and he didn't even know. Well partly, he knew they were leaving to Liverpool soon but he didn't know when and expected his father to tell them a few day's in advanced except he never did and the morning they had to leave, Henry remembered trying to convince his father to let him say goodbye to his first friend, his only friend, his best friend but his father didn't let him and he the best he done was write a letter to Scarlett that night, apologizing.

Still the day burned in his memory, it was the beginning of the summer holiday actually the second day that Arthur had been back. He wasn't expecting to move and he didn't want to, to leave the one place where he had memories of his mum and where his only, best friend lived was something he didn't want do but his father wouldn't listen it pleading or anything. Henry never understood why he didn't get a choice, it was like his father was home for most of his life actually from all the times he was absent Henry remembered spending those nights at Scarlett's and yet he still left, why did he feel so guilty when it wasn't his fault?

Henry recognized her question and didn't know how to answer her for a while he stared at her and remembered past times, back when she was like a sister to him and would spend countless nights when his father was away at her place. When they would climb that oak tree together and just sit and talk to when they first met, when they first met. Henry remembered the promise they made to each other and felt more than guilty as he spoke " I wanted to say goodbye to you Scarlett, I really did. My father, he didn't let me. He briefly mentioned we would be moving to Liverpool soon but he never gave us a date then the morning came and he told us to pack our bags, that we were moving and he wouldn't let me go see you. I couldn't say anything, I wasn't allowed," Henry took a small pause before continuing " I moved because of my father's work at the ministry but still I wrote to everyday at most Scarlett and always ask if I can come visit you or you can come visit me. You were the one that stop writing back."

Henry saw his question now and also noticed that he didn't stutter, he wasn't as nervous anymore but more curious as he asked again " why did you stop writing?"

mentioning no one

The two once friends watched each other, Scarlett daring Knight to make the first move. Anger burned in her eyes and she directed the anger right towards Knight. She referred to him by his last name, because he was no longer a friend, no longer an ally. He was just another male, another one who had left her, abandoned her. Well, she wouldn't make the same mistake twice. No more pining over forgotten memories, no more wanting, wishing for a return. Knight had gone, and he had carried their friendship with him.

Knight had written letters and she had written back, of course. But one day, she had stopped. It hadn't been her fault! She - she got distracted by life. And really, Knight should take the blame, because he was the one that had moved.

"I don't need to hear your pathetic excuses," hissed Scarlett, forcing down guilt and grief in favour of what she did best - explode in anger at people. "You left and that is that."

She paused, hesitating only for a moment as she took in his next question, her mouth dropping into a small 'o' as the guilt came rushing back in waves. No! thought Scarlett. I won't - I won't -

"I have better things to be getting on with than writing to a disloyal friend!" shouted Scarlett. "Why can't you understand that it's your fault you - you -"

She glared at him. She could just walk away right now, but part of her wanted a fight, wanted to shout.

The boy watched as the red haired girl reply, almost like a scene from a movie was playing. The boy and red head become best friends as children before the boy had to move away breaking their treasured bond. Not long after the two would meet again only this time different, changed and not looking for forgiveness from their childhood best friend.... only if this was a movie then it would have two answers to go; they would eventually go back on a slow road of becoming friends or they would become enemies? Which would they fall onto... only time will tell...

Henry stared at Scarlett and a part of him was joyful to see his childhood best friend again while a part of him was angry at Scarlett for blaming him and another part of him was worried and anxious as usual about the situation. Seeing as he had to respond and not wanting to escalate the situation further and his mind was telling him, Henry spoke " I didn't leave on purpose, I wanted to stay but I was 10 and didn't have any say in the matter," Henry felt like he should say more but at the moment he was at a lost for words.

Henry then had enough after hearing her blame him and try to insult him, Henry even through was still anxious and panicky spoke " my fault? Why can you see that's it was no ones fault, I didn't have no choice in moving but if it makes you happy then b...blame me Scarlett! Henry hardly yelled and he didn't like doing it as he lower his voice and continued " and I wasn't the disloyal friend, I kept on writing and even offer you to visit me and ask if I could visit you. If anyone was the disloyal friend then you-"

Henry stopped midsentence as he couldn't finish, he didn't want finish. He didn't want to escalate the situation nor did he want to leave.

How could they have ended up like this? In a seizing flashback, Scarlett backtracked to when they were six. Climbing trees, talking, sharing books and venting about their lives and generally being good friends. And now they were fighting, shouting. Well, it was mostly Scarlett doing the shouting but they were both technically fighting. She couldn't believe that Henry didn't have the courage to own up to his mistakes. Maybe if he apologised first then she would give him some form of apology as well. But no! Here he was, stubbornly saying that it wasn't his thought. The idea made her blood boil - not just because of his unyielding comments but because if it wasn't his fault, it was hers. Unable to stand guilt at that level and being only eleven, Scarlett took the most natural course of action.

Wait, what? What did he just say about her? What did he just say - say to her?

"DISLOYAL?" exploded Scarlett. Shoving away guilt and insecurity about how uncool this whole ordeal was, she let natural instinct take over her. "YOU WERE THE ONE THAT LEFT! YOU - YOU JUST LEFT OKAY? YOU KNOW I HAVE ISSUES WITH PEOPLE LEAVING AND I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY! WHY COULDN'T HAVE JUST FUCKING ASKED YOUR PARENTS TO VISIT? EVEN VISITING IS BETTER THAT NOT COMING AT ALL! BUT IF IT MAKES YOU FUCKING HAPPY, GO AHEAD, BLAME ME YOU LITTLE DIPSHIT. I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! AND THIS FRIENDSHIP-"

She paused, taking in a deep breath, eyes crazed, aggressive, fists clenched.

"This friendship is over," she spat, her face red with fury.

A part of him wanted to walk away. To leave before things go worse and someone said something that they would regret but something else kept him there. A feeling? Wanting ? Whatever it was Henry stood where he was not moving a muscle almost frozen as he listened to Scarlett yell at him. Yell at him words that he almost just said, he wanted to shout. Yell at the top of his lungs. But he didn't instead he stayed quiet and hoped that no one was watching. That he could fade back in the background, forgotten by all at least for a few moments.

Henry felt his grip on his messager type bag tighten as he looked at Scarlett. A fix of emotions filled his face as he was happy that after a year or so the boy got to see his friend friend again but also anger washed over him, why? He didn't know until the next few words out of Scarlett's mouth made all the color in his face wash away like the days of the full moons.

"This friendship is over."

Henry watched her. He didn't know what to say but knew he had to say something. His emotions fought within him as his anxiety increased and he could feel a panic attack about to come. Henry took a breath before opening his mouth and knew that now they both said things that they both would probably come to regret later...

"When you 10 years old and already lost family you don't get a choice about moving! I tried to stay but my efforts was worthless and I tried to visit you, I would write asking if I could and you never gave me a response back! But fine I guess that's fair. You moved on right? Running around godric hollow with friends laughing and chatting away, you were always the lucky one out of the two us Scarlett no matter if you saw it or not! If it makes you happy then blame me! I don't care anymore, I really don't because I spent to long blaming myself for leaving you and trying to stay your friend but no more! I'm done so blame me I don't care! You probably have more and better friends to hang out with anyway. "

The words spewed from his mouth and he couldn't stop them until finally a phase that he would regret the most would come from his mouth " this friendship was over a while and you knew that." A rush on anger flowed through Henry as he felt tears boil in his eyes threatening to spill as he turned around and took a step away from his first and old best friend but not leaving, not yet.

They seemed to be getting into a pattern now. Scarlett yelled. Henry didn't say anything. Accepted it? No way. Scarlett knew Henry. He just took it in. He wanted to say something. But he didn't. He didn't want attention. All he wanted was to sink away, fade away into the shadows, the background. And Scarlett wasn't giving him that, turning heads as she shouted at her childhood friend. How could she get so worked up about this? She knew Henry had anxiety problems, and here she was completely ignoring that fact. But - but she didn't want to admit she was wrong. She wouldn't admit she was wrong. Surely it was partly his fault?

But now Henry had launched into a really depressing monologue and the roles were reversed. Henry might not have been shouting at her, but it felt like it. She herself felt paralysed. She couldn't speak. She couldn't move as she listened for the first time. It was all her fault - all her fault. She was the one who had stopped writing, she was the one who had fired up the argument - it was all her fault - she was the one to blame - she was a bully - she was horrible and mean - she was - she was -

"I know," she whispered as Henry confirmed her fear. The friendship really was over. Her words, they had had an effect. Everything had consequences. But she hadn't realised that until it was too late.
