Waste of time

It was a busy monday, if Rosie's study plan for the month worked she would be able to study all subjects, stay advanced in her homework and still have free time to hang out. But for now, getting used to the rhythm was still challenging. She had a free period in the morning, so she went to the library, she could read the chapter that would be covered in transfiguration tomorrow and be more familiarized with it. She needed absolute focus and silence.
"The transformation formula, which is that the intended transformation is directly influenced by bodyweight (a), viciousness (v), wand power (w), concentration (c), and a fifth unknown variable (Z)."
She needed another book, it was not related or remotely close to what they would learn, but she was deadly curious about conjurations. And after all, why fight our spite to learn new things?
Even if they will waste our time because it is probably not the easiest...he wondered if her wand was good for that sort of thing.
When she was about to make a note, she noticed her feather pen was missing. "What?", and she looked around, under the table, stood up and rocked her robes. Nothing. "Seriously?!", she whispered to herself. But WAIT, looking in front of her, at the library table, there it was, her feather pen! Someone had taken it! _Am...Er...That is my pen._It looked exactly the same, brown with some white at the tip of it. It was her pen!

Eva had been sitting in the library for a while now, but the enormous size of the shelves and the huge number of books still amazed her. She walked down one of the long rows of books, looking for the astronomy section. Finding a book about stars and constellations she headed back to the table she had been sitting at.
Eva opened up the astronomy book she had grabbed and flipped to page one. She had just finished studying for some of her classes and wanted to take a break to find some new things about space to learn about. Eva wasn't quite sure when these things would be taught in Astronomy, but she couldn't wait. Eva wanted to take notes and draw pictures so she pulled out a piece of parchment from her bag, and set it next to her brown feather pen with a white tip, which had been sitting on the table already from taking study notes, and began reading. Her hair was down, hiding her face from the sides as she read, but Eva liked it that way. It lessened chances of people walking up and interrupting her.
Eva had just picked up her pen to draw out some constellations shown in the book when someone called out to her; "Er...That's my pen." Eva set her pen down and looked over to where the voice was coming from and saw another girl, about her age looking over at her.
Wait, her pen? How could it be hers? Eva had just pulled it out of her own bag a second ago, and she knew that it was definitely hers, because it had been a birthday present from her mum. "Um.. I'm sorry but I think you're mistaken.." Eva said, trying not to sound rude, but her words did come out a little defiant.

_Um...No. I know my pens, thanks. Is a caramel brown with two exact white spots on the tip and it is a special edition of the Monthly Magic Replica's, is a perfect imitation of Snallygaster feather. I got it as a christmas gift._ The condescending tone of voice was unavoidable, mostly because Rosie had much on her mind, and ugh, if this girl thought no one would notice...Well, she was so wrong. She stretched her arms and grabbed the pen from the girl's hand. Checking the robe to see her house._I know slytherins can get jealous easily, but you should not take things just because they are pretty. Use your creativity, did no one ever tell you to design your own pen or something?_ Rosie did not mean as a prejudice, she just stated as a fact, every house carries stigmas and Rosie looked at it as something inherent the poor slytherin girl could not help - and Rosie would not be the one to be lenient with that.
Then she glanced at the book the girl was reading..."Astronomy?!" _Oh. Of course you like astronomy too. Bet you saw I had a lot of astronomy books in my bag._ And with a roll of eyes Rosie sat on her place again, moving a little to the left so she could create a larger distance between the two. Oh the lack of originality...

"I know." Eva said indignantly. She remembered her mother telling her all about the pen when she had first opened the present, making her rush to the small library room they had where her father collected books to research about the Snallygaster. "I got that feather as birthday present last year." By this time Eva had picked her pen back up off the table and walked over to the girl. At this the pen was snatched out of her hand. "HEY!"
The other girl began talking again and Eva folded her arms, she felt her face starting to heat. "Ok one, I am not jealous, and two, are you judging me based on my house? I didn't even want to be in Slytherin in the first place!" She stopped talking, feeling nervous. Was it rude to talk about the house you were sorted into this way? Eva also realized her temper was rising. Her father had always told her that things got worse if she let her temper rise to high, so she took a deep breath and listened as the other girl glanced over to the table Eva had been sitting and began to speak again.
"Yes I like astronomy. No that was not the reason. I have been interested in astronomy since I was seven." Eva still remembered the first time her father took her stargazing just after her seventh birthday. She had loved anything to do with the stars and planets ever since.
As the girl sat down and scooted over again, Eva considered just going back to her book, but that pen was really special. Maybe she could find this other girls pen, give it back to her, and get her own pen back. She had inherited a little bit of the finding skills her mother had, but she wasn't sure where to start. What if this girl had just left the pen in her dorm or something? She obviously wouldn't be able to look their. She also couldn't check the girls bag, that would make her upset. So she just glanced around the table, to see if she could spot it. She couldn't
Sighing, Eva gave the girl one last glance and strode back to her table. She would have to use another pen for now. She looked into her bag and realized that was the only pen she had packed.. Well except for her fathers old quil and an ink bottle he had given her. She used these when she wrote her father letters, but now she pulled the quil and bottle out of her bag, dipped the quill in the ink, and finished her constellation drawing. Every now and then she would glance back at the girl who had taken her pen and watch the pen longingly, turning back to her book when the girl looked at her. This is stupid. She thought. If I was sorted into Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw this would not have happened. I need to think of a way to get my pen back.

As Rosie chewed on the inside of her cheeks to distract herself from this contrariness that tainted her productive day, she had been ignoring all the girl had said, but that did not mean her head would stop thinking AND commenting about it. Of course I'm right. If she was not guilty she would have advocated for her pen. She gave up easily because she knows the crime was not perfect. Humpf Rosie did not have any prejudice...Did she? No of course not! It is expected for some slytherin people to be this way. I do not mind...As long as they are not taking my stuff.
The cold war was settled, and now the words would get mixed up in her head, what use was the library in a mood like this? She noticed the girl looking at her at times, and looked back at time for the redhead to turn away. Is she regretting the theft? No. This is a trick. Look, she even has another pen. Rosie thought about raising her voice again to ask but the librarian was just on the other table helping someone and she did not want to get caught.
She grabbed a piece of paper and wrote on it.

What kind of trick is this? If you think puppy sad eyes will make me lend you the pen...Do not take me for a fool! I do not have time to be watching you I need to study.

Eva read the note and tore off the bottom part of her parchment she had not used yet to reply.
No tricks, just wish you hadn't taken my pen. You probably left yours in your dorm or something. I would help you look for it, but I don't think You would appreciate it. Also, fine I will stop looking over at you, I understand that you need to study.
She meant the last sentence. She hated it when other people interrupted her studying or reading. She was still really mad at this girl though. There must be someway to get my pen back. Eva thought. Maybe I could just steal it back and leave. Then her mindset changed. Stealing really? She thought, now having a small argument with herself in her head.
Well it is my pen.
But stealing is wrong. Just because your in Slytherin doesn't mean you do anything and everything to get something. You didn't even want to be in Slytherin in the first place, remember?
It's not really stealing though, because it's mine.
Well anyway, this girl is a Ravenclaw, she probably expects you to, anway how would you steal it back anyway, she's using it.
Eva sighed and turned back to her book, interest lost. She closed it and put it in her bag, she could study it later. For now she had to brainstorm some new ideas to get her pen. Asking nicely wouldn't help, the girl thinks its hers and won't just give it back. So Eva went back to looking around the room for the pen the girl had lost. The only plan she could think of that might work, was finding the other pen and returning it in hopes of getting her pen in return.

Left mine in my dorm? No, I always use this pen to study with my books. Of course I brought it. But are you sure? No, I am not, but I...Well I took notes with it earlier didn't I? Rosie kept copying important sections from the textbook, every now and then looking at the pen in her hand. This is so annoying.
Would she lose her time like that? Well...The Astronomy book was a special edition on Jupiter starts...Was very advanced...
Ok maybe she could help Rosie look for her pen, to make Rosie feel safer and keep a close watch on her, like a test. How would she look for it? Hmmmmm....
She could not focus anyways and her next class was in twenty minutes. She could give the girl a break. _Ok, listen-_She was whispering but noticed the seat was empty. What?!
Rosie stood up and followed the fire hair glowing in contrast to the brown bookshelves.
_I'll look for it too...Or better, watch you look for it. Just..Humpf._Rosie could not continue what she was about to say, she just pouted and kept walking next to the girl while browsing. She was mostly getting distracted looking at the books. Then she was reminded that she was crossed, yes very crossed, and proceeded to squint her eyes, paying close attention. _I'm Rosie Willew. By the way._Silence._Just so you know how to deliver me the alleged pen._The girl looked so upset tho, at some point Rosie even thought she looked more distressed then herself?

Eva had begun browzing for more books to read while also glancing around for the lost pen every now and then, when the Ravenclaw girl approached her. Oh no, has she come to yell at me about my response to her message? Then she started talking about looking for the pen. Had she finally realized the pen really was Eva's? No probably not. Eva thought, trying not to get her hopes up. The girl introduced herself as Rosie Willew. Eva decided she might as well introduce herself as well, just to be polite. She stopped browsing the shelves and turned to face Rosie. "I'm Eva Evergood." She said then returned to thinking about finding the pen, starting to mutter her thoughts aloud to Rosie. "Well I have been thinking... The pen has to be near your table, especially if you know you have definitely had it in here today, but I have looked at your table as best as a can and can't seem to find it. Unless its under or near your bag. I didn't want to look there, incase it made you think I was trying to steal you things..." Her brain was working hard, trying to think of other possible places her pen could be.
Eva felt confident with her ideas, but she wasn't sure what Rosie would think about her ideas. What if they never found the pen and Rosie just kept the one she had taken from Eva, still thinking it was hers, and Eva had stolen it? She frowned, distress showing slightly in her eyes. What if she never go her pen back?

Eva's cheeks flushed pink, more out of embarrassment than anger. She had started feeling bad about how she acted to Rosie before and was trying to help, but she still thought Eva had stolen her pen.
"I have History of Magic in a bit." She replied after Rosie told her that she had potions. "I promise I will try everything I can to find that pen." She hoped this was a promise that would not be too hard to keep. "And I'm sorry I ruined your day." She added, a little grudgingly, and she thought to herself; If you had not taken my pen in the first place your day might not have been ruined.
Eva began to look around the library again as Rosie packed up her stuff, thinking about where the pen might be. I should probably put my stuff back in my bag as well. She thought, glancing at the table that still had her parchment, quill, and ink bottle on it. When Eva looked back over to where Rosie was standing, she noticed something sticking out of one of her books. It was a brown pen with white at the top. Wait, was that Eva's pen or Rosies lost pen? She hadn't seen whether Rosie had put the pen into the book or not. She should have been paying more attention. "Is...is that..." Eva looked from Rosie to the pen in the book, and back again.
