He felt that punch alright and he failed to grapple Erin too. Oh how this girl had become his enemy was entirely his own fault. Even worse was that no matter what she did to him Quinn in his heart of hearts actually held some respect for her. She didn't care how others saw her, she went after her goals no matter how crazy they were or insane she looked as a result. Quinn was jealous of that however, he also pitied her. She couldn't see past her own delusional ideas and thoughts of Quinn as a perceived and very real threat. He felt honest to god pity.

She still attacked him and he needed to keep his focus things were quickly detoriating and he refused to be the cause again. He was in control finally and he was sick of being everyone's punching bag. Sighing heavily while rubbing his jaw he glared at Erin staring her down. But before he could do much else he heard a familiar voice and turned just in time to see Kyle. Rage flashed in his eyes, but this time it was a cold rage. "Pathetic as always I see." He said in a very clear and low tone. It was the type of tone that someone used when they were absolutely fed up with a situation but also still clearly pissed. It was controlled, like the calm before a terrible storm.

'Oh look it's the mutt!'

'On that we agree.' He sighed once again making an effort to dodge his attack. He couldn't take another hit from those two. He needed to deal with one situation at a time. Just then he got a very uneasy feeling that set his entire body on alert. He quickly turned to see Nico as he tried to dodge Kyle.

"N-Nico calm down. I'll be fine just calm down." Concern flooded in for a moment before he was forced to take into account everything else in his surroundings. Unlike before Quinn was still relatively calm, and in control. There was a certain of coolness to him perhaps as he wondered where the heck Breana had gone. "Santario, try to keep knockout over here restrained." He quickly said. So much going on so lit-

'Real smooth. I'd be impressed except everything you do ceases to impress me. Love ya Queenie!'

God there he went repeating himself, but you know what he learned? "Shove it Harlin..." He accidentally let slip as he forced his personality into the background forcibly supressing him for a change. A feat he was extremely proud of.

No, no no. Not the roses. That wasn't right. That wasn't what she was looking for. She snorted. Sniffed. The scent of bitter petals was far too overpowering. It almost completely covered the musty scent that she had been in search of. Xailah would be lead to a girl, who was holding a bouquet of the flowers. No, no. She turned swiftly. Roses. God, they were everywhere. But they weren't the thing that she wanted. Frustrated in losing the scent of earth; she let out a hollowed, and airy huff. Maybe she had simply imagined that underlying smell? Ugh. This was going to drive her crazy- and more so than she already was. Determined to find the source, she would miss the conflict that had begun to bubble on the other side of the room. But had she seen it- had she noticed it, she would have actually tried to resolve it. In this moment though, she could hardly tell the difference between idle chatter, and the start of a fight between peers. Both seemed so... aggressive. Had it always been this loud in here?

While she searched, and sniffed; Xailah made sure to keep an occasional eye on the entrance to the ballroom. She was terrified of seeing those doors close. Glancing towards the doors, she would notice someone... sidestep(?) into the ballroom. She immediately recognized said person (again) by their lack of ballroom attire. "Meenauh?" Xailah called. Wasn't the Mancunian on guard duty? Perhaps Meenauh had changed her mind, and wanted to boogie instead? Nonsense. Meenauh was dedicated, if she had a job, then she was certainly going to do it. And well. Golden eyes would see a wand raise. That was never a good sign. Something must have been wrong then- but Xailah was a little too far away to see what, was wrong. And why. Clawed hands cupped over the mouth part, of the metamorphs mask, as she made her way closer to the doors. "Is sssomething the matter?" Yellow, darted beneath the blackness of the cat mask, in a frantic search for a possible problem.

Nearly stuck in the meaningless gaze, Flash got collected back into reality with the crashing sound of glass and horse whinnying. Not terribly concerned, the crowd undulated with a shockwave of alarm and terror. Fitting for the season, of course, what was a Halloween celebration without some kind of thrilling scare? Perhaps not appreciated by everyone, but he had little doubt that there were very many students who attended the Masquerade who were not at least a tiny bit expectant of a sudden interruption.

Flash listened to the rider’s foreboding warning with a placid face, he wasn’t about to pretend that a Hogwarts ghost had anything actually meaningful to impart to the living, even when the veil was thinning more and more as they neared the upcoming full moon. Likely, most of the students didn’t understand the nature of ghosts completely, much like the talking portraits around the corridors. He didn’t blame them, but he wasn’t so easily stirred.

More stirring to him, in all honesty, was the approach of Bridget. Many of the students did the spectre’s bidding, following the ghost cat that sauntered out of the Masquerade. For the best, really, the less people that were in the Ballroom, the easier it would be to keep an eye on everyone. He suddenly felt like a babysitter more than a host. Why did his thoughts always find a way to ruin every good moment in his life? Was it him, wasn’t it his own fault that he was always so unhappy?

It was with a bit of a glazed-over look that Flash watched her. No animated excitement or bright smile like she was likely getting used to. They spent a good deal of the end of last year, and onwards through this one, in continual contact. She was easy to talk to, practical and thoughtful. But they weren’t close, really. They didn’t talk about their feelings, they talked about information. They were committed to the same goals. Allies. Much like his relationship with Evenlynn, they worked like informants and confidants. Both of them seemed completely comfortable with such an arrangement. Strange that it seemed to function so much better than his intimate friendships. Perhaps emotions really were better when they were hidden away. They got in the way of being productive.

”What does it matter?” Flash said dully.

That was the only way he knew how to cope. Shut off, go somewhere else in his head. Stop caring. About anything. Still, he was nice enough to not leave her with such an awkward, isolated statement.

”It’s a mystery.” With a bit of dry sarcasm, Flash looked back out on the crowd.

He doubted that Bridget would ask after him any further, she was likely to pick up on the fact that he didn’t want to talk. He wished he could just go. Go drum. Break something. He was so tired of being responsible for everything. He was tired of acting like something horrible didn’t happen to him. Everything was moving on like it had just picked back up where it left off, but he was caught, snagged on a thorn. He didn’t know how to fix it, he didn’t know what he was supposed to be doing instead. He was just… throwing parties… throwing balls. Anything to not be alone for too long. But sometimes, all he wanted was to be alone. Somewhere to scream, to be angry without the fear of what it would make people think of him. That he was really, actually, bitter and lonely.

It was impossible not to notice the fight that broke out between Erin and Quinn. He needed only look over briefly to tell, Quinn couldn’t help but stand out, and Miss Erin was standing on a chair punching him. He wasn’t intending on intervening. Frankly, he might have felt the urge to defend Miss Erin, the misunderstood and overburdened mad outcast. He didn’t like losing fights though, and she had entered one. The problem with Erin was that her personality made her unpredictable, and wasn’t likely worth anything. He doubted she would be grateful. He wouldn’t defend people who didn’t want to be defended.

There was someone else that his eyes laid on instead, extremely recognizable no matter how seldomly he was seen. If there was anyone who deserved to be miserable, it was him. Why is HE so happy? Whether or not Bridget decided to stick around, Flash would scowl, a hint of disgust on his face. Vladimir Athanatos. More than likely, he had no idea who Flash was in the slightest, yet still he made his life a living hell. He led the Ravenclaws into the Forbidden Forest, which led to stricter curfews and more watches. More stress. If he wasn’t mistaken, he helped let loose the spiders on Slytherin house that injected Opeila and Bridget with the cursed venom that he had nearly dedicated his life to curing at this point. Not only that, but he was the host apparent of the strange fight club that happened over summer, pitting students against each other for… what? Letting his corpse of a friend stand in the blast zone while he hid himself somewhere comfortable.

Flash hated him. He had tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, he was always the fair one, always trying to find a peaceful solution. Vladimir was free from the constraints of decency. He was a scoundrel, and he didn’t deserve to be happy. Falentra was right, sometimes talking didn’t do anything at all. He had been taught all his life to stay above the conflict, never resort to petty violence. But… the same person that taught him that might have killed someone. He didn’t know what was right any more.

Someone had to pay. Vladimir had to pay. Flash got up from his seat, his legs no longer shaky. With intense purpose, he would walk up to Vladimir and try to punch him in his face as hard as he could.

The skirt to her dress isn't quite as sheer as in the image.
Sarah grinned at Paisley as she mentioned that they’d come together. It had been a somewhat last minute thing that the pair had decided to be one another’s ‘dates’, but after tonight, she couldn’t have imagined coming with anyone else. Even had the girls not reached a new level in their relationship - sharing secrets Sarah hadn’t known she would ever speak of - she knew that tonight would have solidified their friendship. Anyone who can put up with her bad jokes and give back even worse ones was a friend indeed. She moved her eyes back to Allie, small smile on her lips. She could sense the tension pulsing from Paisley, hear it in the way she stumbled over her words and glanced between them. She clearly wanted them to get along and seemed nervous they wouldn’t. Sarah wanted to prove her wrong.

She opened her mouth to make a joke about the three of them dancing, going as far as lifting her hands to reach out to the pair, when a couple of students spun right towards them. She quickly moved out of the way, eyes wide as they nearly got knocked over. “Merlin,” She muttered under her breath as she smoothed down her skirt. She knew she sometimes got lost in her dancing but she was always aware enough not to run people over.

Paisley’s grim tone caught her attention, the words oddly serious coming from her. She’d have worried had the younger girl not burst into yet another fit of laughter. Her laugh is contagious, she thought briefly before joining in with her giggling. “With jokes like that, I’m surprised you’ve managed to find two friends,” She said, playfully rolling her eyes even as a fond smile settled on her lips. With Paisley’s question, Sarah too turned to look at Allie, waiting for a response. She’d considered asking Paisley if she might want to join dance classes with her here at Hogwarts. Perhaps if Allie was interested in dance, she could bring both of them along.

Katrina felt quite a bit better now that Adonis was around. She was stressing less about everything going south, but she still had the nagging feeling that something bad was going to happen. It was a Hogwarts Ball. It was basically pre-planned. A ghost ran through the crowd, yelling of doom and gloom, for a moment Katrina was freaked, but if there really was something and it wasn't just a halloween trick, she would rather stay here and get people out as soon as possible.

Katrina saw River approach there was a sort of unnerving since that sometimes trailed her. "Long time no see, I've been pretty good," Katrina found that her stress had caused the words to be a bit forced, hopefully the music would cover that. "River, Adonis; Adonis, River" Katrina sort of half-laughed at her brief introductions. Hopefully Adonis wouldn't mind.

Katrina found herself surveying the crowd. Nothing seemed to be awry yet. At least, that she could see. yeah, im just gonna ignore the fighting for now. Her eyes traced the crowds, Bridget was the only other person she was really worried about. As long as she could keep herself, Adonis, and Bridget safe and do something to help everyone else, she could leave the ball with a clean conscience.

"All I had to do was look for the prettiest girl in the room."

Lamik's comment brought a blush to Iris' cheeks. This was genuinely the first time that she had, had a date, even to a ball. Sure, she was only fourteen, but looking around, most of the purebloods seemed to know what they were doing. Go through the motions with a sort of ease that Iris had never practiced before. There had been some boys back at Ilvermorney, but Iris hadn't been one to fall easily. She would rather run through the forest or practice her racing.

Iris, per usual, hardly noticed that Lamik seemed so on edge. After all, she didn't know all that had happened at the last ball and still believed that Hogwarts was safe. A ghost wandered through the crowd, saying something about doom and they were all in danger. Iris sort of laughed at it. What a cool party trick! She didn't know any ghosts that were willing to act. A few people left with the ghost, but Iris stayed, Lamik was a bit more important at the moment.

"So, would you want to maybe dance?" Iris asked. She didn't want to cross a line, but this could be her opportunity to get that experience. Only if he were up to it though.

Ouch, that one stung a little. It was true, he did tend to ditch her quite often and was now paying for the repercussions of his actions with her teasing towards him; he thought maybe he hurt her a little more than she was letting on. There was a slight redness to his cheeks that rose momentarily, ashamed, though it was decently hidden by the mask he adorned. Still, he took it in stride as he tried to save face, "Not runnin' anymore," he responded, hoping that one day that she'd look past his foolishness that seemed to overtake the 12-year-old from time to time. Sure, there were simple things to the boy that not many people knew about, his hobbies and obsessions made sense to those that actually bothered to ask him about them. The thing was, people generally didn't seem to ask many questions where he was from, and when Dealla asked a lot of questions, it triggered some sort of fight-or-flight reaction from him.

Of course, he couldn't help but smile down once more to her when she once again asked another question and he tilted his head upwards for a moment as if he was looking towards the ceiling for the answer, thinking. After just a second or two, he'd look back down and offered a slight shrug, "We Irish know how to get down," he said confidently, indeed, he was apart of a lot of those community-sponsored dances and it was very common in his area to be apart of them. She seemed distracted for an instance as he couldn't help but see a flash of light out of his peripherals, but, he kept his gaze down upon the girl and just tried to enjoy the time before they would eventually split apart. It was bound to happen sooner or later, so, he'd enjoy the time he had with her.

When she commented upon his hand placement again and then mentioned Ileen, he smirked, thinking of the night previous and their run-in on the quidditch pitch, "Ah, haven't seen her since last night," he mentioned casually. As they moved along with their slow song and dance close together, he heard her comments upon her standing on his feet and he offered a soft laugh in response, "Silly," he said softly. They went on dancing for a little longer before he brought them over towards the refreshment area.

After giving her a drink and asking his question about the costume party, he nodded to her response and explanation of the rest in what she said. Then the topic of the traditional Halloween bread that his mom had always baked on the morning of the holiday, "Justa' Irish thing," he first said, then figured he'd add a little more, offering up some personal information for once to the girl, "It's like a bread, with different stuff in it... mom bakes it in the morn' usually," he confirmed and smirked over towards her next words, "Surprisingly, no potatoes." he conceded. Finding it funny that she actually remembered the dish he had gotten on that summer morning he had dragged her out of the tent. Then it hit him, a thought, that she might have stolen the rest of his meal after he had run off. Zykeals eyes narrowed slightly towards her, but, he didn't comment on it.

Obviously, he asked of a topic that he figured she was well interested in, sweets, she seemed to like sweets very much and her following string of conversation seemed to confirm his thoughts. Those golden hues were set upon the side of her facial profile as she leaned against the table next to him, keeping himself engaged as she spoke and listening carefully to note what kind of things that she liked and didn't. Information was powerful, after all. With a huff, he remembered the birthday party of hers where he had shown up randomly and received quite the thwacking for wanting to ditch early, "Eh," he murmured at first, "Sweet things are deceiving," and he nodded, as he looked straight out into the crowd where he'd start to observe the crowd, "I've never had a taste for them," he confirmed and let those eyes of his wander towards where he saw a prefect of his own house being chased by what looked to be a small creature.

"Huh, that's odd," he muttered, not really thinking anymore more than a simple 'Well, it's Halloween at Hogwarts' and moving back to look upon the rest of the crowd. Zykeal had no idea what Dee did with the wrapper of the sweet she had. It seemed the party was shifting from the fun atmosphere of a nice ball to a chaotic event very quickly with the spellcasting and fighting starting to take place, he sighed, "Here we go again," and how little did the boy know how true those words were as he looked over towards Dealla once more, "Glad we had at least a little time together," he said softly, a sad smile forming behind that masquerade mask that he adorned at the time. Of course, his hand drifted towards the replica gun-holster that held his ivory-colored wand.

This was when one of his tics became overwhelming when he knew something was going to happen and his brain went into an overdrive mode. The hand clutched his aspen wood wand and pulled it out so that it'd settle in front of him; the rotation of the wand within his fingers began. Just as his wand started to spin within his fingers, it happened, a ghost crashed through and started to announce something that would spoil the nice night that he and his date were having. Zykeal didn't care much about what the thing said, some typical cryptic speech, how boring. Instead of jumping up and being interested in what had just happened though, he observed Dealla for a moment and was pleasantly surprised that she didn't seem too interested either.

A twitch of a smile formed upon his features and he thought maybe that she was enjoying the night as much as he was, for now, wanting it to last a little longer before shit inevitably hit the fan. This didn't put his mind at ease as much as he liked to, as he still constantly spun that wand within his fingers of the hand on the opposite side of the girl. Zykeal would look back out into the crowd, searching for familiar faces, and hoped that no one he knew was getting into a situation they couldn't handle on their own, he didn't want to leave his dates side. As for now though, he'd rest his free hand in front of him and leaned his shoulder over onto hers, "Well, don't suppose we'll be able to get another dance in tonight with this happening," he remarked, just relaxing there, leaning against the Princess dressed like a Goddess.

The remark would make a smirk curl the corners of his mouth. "Of course," he then replied in the same manner with a little bit of smug, "the pleasure is all yours." A sly wink before he took the others hand as he lead him towards the dance area. As he let go he would see a ghostly rider crash through a window without destroying it; obviously. A displeased frown on his face the boy would watch the display that he couldn't describe as anything but childish. Couldn't they have arranged this display at the costume party where the actual kids were gathering? Why interrupt them here and now? Rolling his eyes he would face the slightly shorter boy attempting to draw their attention back to him by giving a cough as he prepared to take the lead in the dance. He truly hoped the other wouldn't actually run after that blasted ghost as Niche had better things to do with his time than chase after undead spirit. "Let's move along, shall we?" He would hint, never leaving his charm even though his mind was working overtime. He had quite the lack of frustration tolerance but he would not let such a silly thing ruin his evening just yet.

Niche had goals and a purpose as small and purposeless as they might seem for the ordinary mind the swedish boy was known for his complex attitude and thinking. It was a part of who he was and in his opinion serving an ulterior motive at all times. Confidence and charm as he waited for his dance partner to finally calm down.

Paisley introduced Allie to the other girl, who turned out to be named Sarah. The Ravenclaw nodded, still smiling. When Sarah suddenly stepped forward and gave her a quick hug, she was a little surprised, but she hugged her back briefly and then stepped away. Allie loved being introduced to people, and the girl seemed nice enough. "It's nice to meet you too," she replied, noticing that even Paisley seemed surprised at Sarah's reaction upon meeting Allie.

When the Gryffindor asked if she'd come with anyone, Allie nodded and looked around again. "Well, I was coming with a boy named Matrix. . ." she hesitated, then added, "He's another one of my close friends here at Hogwarts." The Ravenclaw saw how nervous her friend looked and immediately understood why. Sarah seemed to notice as well and seemed to want the same thing as Allie did: for Paisley to not have anything to worry about. Shooting Sarah a grin, Allie almost missed her name being said from somewhere behind her. Luckily, she did hear it, and turned around to see the person she had just been talking about.

Before the girl could say hi to Matrix, however, the sound of glass shattering made her look around for the source of the noise. When she saw the ghost, her eyes went wide and she listened carefully to what he was saying. A mystery, it sounded like. . . That could be interesting. Realizing only now that the other two girls had been speaking the whole time, Allie gave her other friends a sheepish smile as she caught the last part of Paisley's question. "Not really. . . but I do enjoy dancing when I get around to doing it."

Then, turning back to Matrix, she gestured for him to come over and introduced him to Paisley and Sarah. "This is Matrix, I came with him to the dance. . ." here, she blushed slightly, still unused to the fact that he had asked her to come with him. "Uh, and Matrix, this is Paisley and Sarah."

The hunt the ghost had been talking about seemed really interesting, and to be honest, kind of dangerous, but it was pushed out of Allie's mind as she smiled at the group she was with. Tonight, believe it or not, the curious first year was more interested in spending time with her friends than going to solve a mystery.

Romah stepped into the ball room and was instantly blown away. The room was huge and the decorations were stunning. She scanned the room, hoping to see Cade. She spotted him over by the punch bowl. She made her way over to him, shifting her skirts so they wouldn't get stepped on. She just then remembered that this was a masquerade ball so she had to put on a actual mask. She reached into her handbag and pulled out her mask. It was a light green with ribbons of white striking through it. and a large emerald green feather stuck right out of the top of it. She had decided to get a mask that only went over her eyes. Wouldn't it feel like suffocating if she just crammed it over her entire face? She double checker herself in the reflection of the floor. Her dress was beautiful on her, with a pleated white halter top and a light sage green skirt. It consisted of many pieces of sheer fabric layered over one another with a knot tied at the waist. She ran her fingers through her hair, that had taken her SO long to do. She peered at her makeup as well. She had on mascara and Katherine had done it beautifully. Oh, now she was thinking about Katherine and her rumor that Cade chucked a rock at her friends head. She straightened up again and took her last steps toward him. She took a deep breath. Hello Cade.

The ball trudged on slowly. He stood by the punch bowl for what seemed like forever. He was about to go sit down in a corner somewhere and melt, but he spotted Romah. It was quite easy because she didn't put on her mask until after she stepped into the room. Her dress was a pleasant green, it complemented her brown hair. Cade gave a little wave, she started for him. Cade beamed, he felt a lot more comfortable now that he wasn't alone.

"Romie! I'm glad you recognized me underneath this mask. I was worried you wouldn't..." He trailed off deciding it was stupid for him to continue. "I like your dress. You look good." He didn't really know how to compliment a girl without feeling somewhat embarrassed. Cade turned to watch the orchestra instead of meeting her eyes. "This was not at all what I was expecting." He commented on the slow formal music. There were lots of couples slow dancing together now. All of them were very good dancers, not tripping or stumbling over their dress robes. If only Cade knew how to dance.

"I thought you said you were bringing more friends... Are they meeting us at the costume party?" Cade asked Romah glancing at her.
