Wand: 32,0 cm chestnut wood and unicorn hair
Reducio"Try this one, Miss Edevane: fairly flexible, attracted to energetic wizards," Mr. Ollivander emphasized with a knowing glint in his eye as he regarded the young Madelyn over the counter. "But do be careful. It will be easily wooed by another if its owner becomes lazy," he offered in warning.
Chestnut Wood
This is a most curious, multi-faceted wood, which varies greatly in its character depending on the wand core, and takes a great deal of colour from the personality that possesses it. The wand of chestnut is attracted to witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts, those who possess great gifts in Herbology, and those who are natural fliers. However, when paired with dragon heartstring, it may find its best match among those who are overfond of luxury and material things, and less scrupulous than they should be about how they are obtained. Conversely, three successive heads of the Wizengamot have possessed chestnut and unicorn wands, for this combination shows a predilection for those concerned with all manner of justice.
Unicorn Hair
Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.
Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing.
Background:
Born in the pastoral landscape of Wales, Madelyn had a peaceful and simplistically ordinary life growing up on her family's modest cottage and parcel of land. She went to school with the local children and frequented their neighboring properties for everything from helping with chores to dining at their supper tables. Neighbors and mothers of friends invited her often, taking pity on a young girl who had nearly grown up motherless. Their intentions were as honest as they were nosey, doubting how the eccentric Mr. Edevane could raise a little girl alone. But Madelyn liked returning to her father at home best, enjoying their exploratory treks into the verdant meadows as much as their quiet hours beside the hearth together. If Mr. Edevane was a wizard, he never let on any sign that he was capable of anything magical, except the usual kind that parents choose to delight their children with - surprise trinkets appearing on birthday mornings, a living room transformed into a whimsical tent, and so on.
But such trifling notions of magic were fated to come to an end eventually: the year that Madelyn was to turn eleven, Mr. Edevane handed his daughter an envelope addressed to her in elegant, sloping script with a solemn smile and heavy heart.
Appearance:
Madelyn's heart-shaped face is framed by long, wispy chestnut locks that are dusted with streaks of caramel in the sunlight beneath which she spends a great deal of time. Her dark, straight brows have a melancholy set to them that would overshadow her expression if it were not for the fact that her lips are almost constantly upturned in laughter or exuberant elation. But there are times when one might see that she is not merely a carefree child; when excitement fades and the young girl turns thoughtful and quiet, her bright blue gaze grows distant and darkens nearly to a stormy grey.
