Nice to meet you again
Haley had been looking forward to this afternoon off for days. She had the feeling that she hadn't been able to get any rest in the last weeks. She had a lot of bad days lately, everything just got too much for her. She had spent a lot of time doing her homework and preparing for classes, so that she hardly had time to meet friends or to explore the castle further.Interacting with @Alina Rosier
But today was a good day, she knew that. As soon as she took her first steps out of the castle, she took a few deep breaths in and out and enjoyed the cool air in her lungs. She hadn't been out in nature much lately, which she was incredibly missing. She hadn't been aware of this until now but suddenly she noticed how she was getting better with every step.
Today her target was the great lake and she was curious what this day would bring. She had a few books to read and a blanket to make herself comfortable somewhere. She walked a few meters along the lake and chose a nice spot, spread out her blanket and lay down, closed her eyes and again took a few deep breaths in and out. A satisfied smile spread over her face and she knew that from today on things would be uphill again. It felt like a great weight was falling from her shoulders.
After a few minutes she sat up and took the books out of her bag to finally choose one of them. Just as she raised her head to think about it, she discovered a familiar Hufflepuff face. She remembered her first encounter with Alina and a picture of the twin flower came up in her mind's eye, which made her smile."Hey, Alina!" Haley called and waved to her. A big smile formed on Haley's face, she was glad to see Alina again.

"Hales, hi!" she immediately gave her an obvious nickname but a nickname nonetheless like they had been good friends for a long time. "It's good to see you again! How have you been?" She knew the first part of the first year at Hogwarts could be rather difficult and hoped Haley might have more smooth sailing than she did.
"It's a nice afternoon. I think I could use it after my last History of Magic exam...it had an essay section and EVERYTHING!" That class. Sometimes it could be interesting and it captured Alina's attention and other times it was more difficult to retain knowledge for than astrophysics!!! This last particular unit was leaning toward the later.
Still, she think she managed with a somewhat decent grade. Maybe having an uninvolved boyfriend had its perks when it forced you to spend more of your time with your schoolwork, even if that wasn't your preference. Her grades would thank her.
She came and sat down next to her. Feeling a slight chilly breeze, she took out her sweater and pulled it over her head and then adjusted it to fit just right. From there, she took out her small cellophane baggie of lemon drops and popped one into her mouth before holding out the bag to her friend, offering her one.

Haley had to smile when Alina called her with a nickname that was unknown until today. "Hales" she repeated it in her head - she liked it and was grateful to have met Alina today. Even though they didn't know each other for long, Haley counted her among her close friends. She always had a good feeling around her and appreciated her a lot.Interacting with @Alina Rosier
"Mh, well, but the last weeks were hard. I could hardly do anything else but homework and my head would have burst almost three times a day." Haley puffed loudly but then quickly put a smile on her face "But that's the past- now it's better and I have a little more time that I can use for myself. How about you?" Haley asked curiously while she made some space on her blanket so that Alina had enough space and afterwards she took a lemon drop from Alina with thanks.
She was very curious what Alina would tell her, it felt like an eternity when they saw each other last. Besides Haley felt that she hadn't noticed anything of what had happened at Hogwarts lately because she was so absorbed in other things.

"I've been okay," she admitted, not saying astounding or something great like she hoped to be, but still not dwelling on the negative either. Alina liked to try and stay optimistic even when feeling a little down because pouting always just made things worse.
"I've been having a little trouble lately letting go of a friend. Due to circumstances he wasn't able to come to Hogwarts this year and I won't be able to see him again or write," she paused but now that it finally had hit her and she had gone through all five stages of grief, she was able to reach that final one - acceptance.
"I'm a better person for having known him," she said, glancing back to Haley with a small, but true, smile. She knew that was true. "And one should not focus on what they can't change, right? It's not healthy. I mean, there's still some sadness and all that but I was trying to hang onto something that I'd never get back. At least I'm not lying to myself anymore. It's just been hard lately, going through it sort of alone."
She had friends, but she didn't think Lucia wanted to hear her go on about a boy and she didn't want to trouble Rose with boy problems when she was so blissful with hers. She couldn't talk to Logan about Clifton and she knew that losing him affected Alexa as well. Her sister was too busy enjoying Beauxbatons to write and her father was still MIA.

Nice to meet you again
Haley noticed on Alina's expression that something was wrong and looked at her with concern when she told her how she had been lately. When she spoke of her loss, Haley could see and almost feel her pain. She was sorry to see her friend like that. Haley put her hand on Alina's shoulders, gently held it and looked encouragingly into her eyes. "If you want to talk about it, I'm here for you! And if you don't want to, I accept that too." She put her hand back on her lap and smiled at her. She would have liked to give her friend a hug, but Haley knew that sometimes this only makes it worse.Interacting with @Alina Rosier
She briefly rummaged in her bag and took out a lunch box with cookies that her grandmother had sent her. She opened the box and hold it to her friend and offered quietly a cookie and then took one herself.
She ate her cookie and sat there in peace for a while, but Haley did not find this awkward. She knew sometimes it was just a quiet company that one needs. But after a short time she decided to break the silence, she did not want Alina to fight too much with her thoughts.
"I have been pushing a letter in front of me for a few days, a few many days ..." She looked embarrassed at her hands, she hadn't talked about it with anybody before, but with Alina it was not difficult for her to talk about it and she wanted to show her that she also had an inner conflict -which was not nearly as bad as that of Alina - but still therefore could understand her better. "But I just don't know how to write it, I miss the words everytime I try to start , but the topic is so important for me." She faltered shortly, because she had never told anyone much about her family history.

"I don't really know where to start, to be honest," she said speaking of Clifton. "We met, we connected, we bonded and from there it was like...I was a part of him and he was a part of me but now he's gone. It's been hard. ...Harder than becoming distanced with my own twin." She looked to Haley and smiled though. "But I'm still here and I've still got some really great friends so I try not to dwell on it. I just hope and pray that he's well and he's safe and so is his family."
There really wasn't much else to it. "Speaking of families, I know alllllll about trying to avoid letter writings of certain topics," she laughed a little, thinking about how long she avoided telling her father she was sorted into Hufflepuff. She went the entire year during her first year without letting it slip and he didn't know until that past Summer.
"Is that something you want to talk about?" she turned the tables to her friend. She hoped she trusted her enough to share things like that with because Alina was a good listener and even if she didn't have the answers to solve her friends' problems, she at least could be there for support.

Haley was hurt by the idea of losing someone so close and not knowing how the person was doing. "I'm really sorry about that, and I wish you all the luck in the world that he and his family are okay!" She looked sadly at the blanket, but then smiled encouragingly at her friend.Interacting with @Alina Rosier
Haley was glad that she was not the only one with such problems and had to laugh with Alina. "Mh, yes I think so, but I don't want to annoy you with my trivial topics." Haley didn't want to start with her comparatively unimportant topics, when Alina was in such a difficult situation.
But she decided to continue and tell Alina about it. "The problem is simply that I don't know much about my family and my parents don't want to tell me either. I know that once there was bad blood between my mother and her family, but that is now past, but I don't know what the reason was." Haley sighed, she just couldn't understand why her mother was so unwilling to tell her these things, after all she was not a child anymore and above all it was her family and she wants to know more about her ancestors. "I just want to know more, I want to know the history of my ancestors and I also want to know what happened back then, do you understand that?"
She didn't want to seem desperate or like she was living in the past, but after all this was all part of her life and this blood was flowing in her veins. She loved her parents, but now and then she thought she had inherited more from her grandmother than from her mother. She and her grandmother got along great and could share a lot with each other and laughed a lot, so she understood even less that she and her mother were once quarrelled.

"Oh I know allllllll about bothersome parents," Alina chimed in, listening intently to her friend. "I assume you've gone the rather obvious route and asked them about it. Have you tried singling out your father and seeing what you can get from him? Or maybe a grandparent can shed light on it?"
She had a lot of family drama herself and knew how it could get in your head and find itself a home there - those thoughts always just sort of there. "I found that this past Summer, at the very start of it, I talked to my father and we talked more than we ever had in ....a lifetime," she said truthfully. "I think they sometimes see us as the little kids we once were and don't realize we're turning into the mature adults we're meant to be." She shrugged. At least that's how it seemed with her and her father. Never had he spoke about it because they were adult things to talk about, big complex issues within the family.
But now he saw she was woken with knowledge, curious with questions, and he helped her answer many of them. "You'll just have to keep digging because eventually the truth will come out. Even when people that maybe don't want to share that information but you deserve to know your family's history! Is there anything I can do to help?" Alina had some mad research skills when it came to snooping and she had her very own detective at home named James, who's actual title was that of her Father's Assistant.

Haley had to laugh a little when Alina mentioned the bothersome parents. "Yes, I have asked her directly several times, also my father. In fact I had decided to write a letter to my grandmother. I received her answer today." Sad and a bit annoyed she looked at the floor, but then quickly reached for her bag and took out the letter from her grandmother.
She turned it a few times in her hand and thought of the moment she read it in the library this morning. She continued to listen to the words of Alina but her gaze was absent. "I am glad that you were able to have such a good conversation with your father despite the hurdles. I don't think my parents have made the realization yet. They probably still see a little child in me." Haley rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders.
"I don't know if there's anything you can do to help me. I don't know what to do myself." She stopped briefly and opened the letter and held it out to Alina.
"I had also thought about doing some research, but I don't know where and I just don't have a lot of information to know where to start""My dear Haley,
I am glad that you have settled in so well at Hogwarts and that you are happy that you ended up in Gryffindor after all. But let me assure you that not all Slytherins are as terrible as the ones you have met so far.
I sent you some cookies with this letter, I hope you like them, but I'd like to respond to your letter to me as well.I'm afraid you won't read what you hoped for, but it's not my responsibility to answer these questions, as much as I would like to.
I know that you would like to know more about your family history, which I think is the right thing to do, but the answers you are looking for you have to look for in your parents, especially in your mother.
Let me tell you that me and your grandfather and the rest of the family have made many mistakes in the past, which is also the reason for this long distance, but we regret this time very much and are very happy to have you as part of our family again.
I hope you are not disappointed with my letter and that I will read from you again soon.
With love,
Cecilia Rose"
Desperately she looked at Alina while she read the letter of her grandmother.

Alina was grateful that Haley trusted her enough to actually talk about her problem, even if she maybe wasn't the person that could help her with it. This was the kind of friendships that she so greatly valued. Everyone had their issues, their problems, their imperfections and their secrets but so many guarded them when really everyone was just there to help each other get through this journey called life.
She read over the letter, trying to see if - as an outsider - she could provided some kind of insight or maybe see if there was somehow something written between the lines but she came up short.
"Well, I'm sorry you're not getting the answers you want right now," she said truthfully after reading the letter and handed it back to her friend with a soft smile. "I'm sure your grandmother has her reasons. She seems very kind." Alina didn't know anything about kind grandparents. Her mother's parents were gone long before she was born, as was her father's father. She only knew her one grandmother and she was a horrid person. She was abusive and nasty and a murderer.
"I can't seem to even begin to figure out what your answer might be but I know it can sometimes come in odd places. I had a mystery this past Summer trying to figure out my mother's death. One of the biggest clues came from an old hospital record from St. Mungos. She was a squib and that piece of information sort of helped other things fall into place. So...just keep trying, stay vigilant and...write to your grandmother thanking her for her words and cookies. That's the advice from this Hufflepuff, anyway and know that I'm here to talk to as you try and figure this all out."
Letters from family. It made her think about her sister and how the letters were written, sent, and never returned. Letters were written to her father, sent, and never returned. During this Second Year, the only ones that were writing to her was her father's assistant James and the head cook back home, Margie.
