The Moon was Raining closed

A cold breeze ran through the night, howling through the trees as it wrapped around Errol, pulling her into an unwanted embrace that left her shivering and pulling her black robes closer to her body in an attempt to keep herself from catching a chill. If it hadn't been raining, then tonight would've been lit up by the silver light of an early waxing gibbous moon, but luck was never on Errol's side, so she hiked through deep mud that splattered onto her dark robe and got drenched in a bone-chilling rain that dripped down her spine causing her to tremble. None of this was going to stop the determined Hufflepuff from carrying on though, instead, she squinted through the rain and marched on.

Tonight she was in search of Foxfire fungus, a mushroom only identifiable during the night when it glows a vibrant green, and tonight was the night she was going to find it, she just knew it. After for nights of searching for the elusive fungus, she just knew deep down in her bones that she would see the mushrooms known as Fairy Fire. The only reason she knew that it was somewhere growing on the Hogwarts grounds was due to a notebook she had found in the library and she strongly believed that whoever had written it long ago was not lying when they claimed to have stumbled upon it.

Pulling her cloak closer, Errol let out a sigh that rose as a cloud into the night sky, twirling alive as it disappeared into the stars, she was getting too cold to carry on her search, the only reason she hadn't given up yet was that she wanted to find out for herself whether the fungi could really be used to summon fairies.

It was night. It was dark. It was cold. It was raining. And James was lost.

James was wandering around across the grounds, looking desperately for where to go. He didn't quite remember what he had done to get out here, but it was something along the lines of this:
James had gone out of the castle in the late afternoon/early evening, simply bored and wanting to take a walk. After that, James supposed he had lain down somewhere to take a nap or something, and had woken up in the rain and drenched to the bone in a puddle of mud.
As James continued to walk through the dark, he began to wonder how the rain had come so quickly. How long had he been asleep? He was so stupid to go and start sleeping outside of the castle when it was getting so close to closing its doors for the night.
Shoving these thoughts aside, James began to see a faint glow that looked magical in the distance. This reminded James of his wand, and he immediately wished that he knew Lumos, a spell a lot of people had been talking about that supposedly made a light at the end of your wand like a torch or a flashlight or something... James knew Wingardium Leviosa, Expelliarmus, and Periculum. Oh! Periculum! Well, it wasn't subtle like Lumos, but it made light, and it might call for someone's help.
James shifted through his pockets and found his wand, a wet stretch of wood. James pulled it out and shook it off a little, scattering water droplets around on the ground and pointed it upwards towards the sky.
"Periculum!" he shouted, and red sparks shot up and out, bursting into a small firework in the air above him.

Errol was hunched over, staring at the ground intensely as she tried to determine whether or not what she was staring at was a footprint or just a small hole in the ground caused by the heavy rain when the sky lit up a blood red that stole her breath away. Like an animal responding to a threat, her body seized up, becoming as stiff as the wand safely tucked away into the folds of her robe where it was safe from the danger of getting wet. Her mind, racing with fear from the sudden surprise, told her to run. Run all the way back to the school and continue till she was safely tucked away in the Hufflepuff dorm where no enemy could reach her, yet Errol held her ground, her stormy grey eyes reaching up towards the sky where she saw a hovering ball of red.

That was definitely not normal Errol thought to herself as she pulled back her hood to get a better view of the orb, at first believing she was imagining it but when it failed to disappear she knew something was up, lights don't randomly float, not even in the Wizarding World, and the girl already had a hunch of what had caused the red light. Not bothering to pull her hood back over her head due to her curls already being flattened against her skull from the on-going downpour, Errol began to move forward to the location of where the light hovered.

"Hello," Errol called out into the darkness, branches tugged at her wet locks and leafs stuck to her cheeks, but she had finally reached the location of where she believed the spell had been cast. It hadn't been far from her previous location, which was good, she could still find her way back and search for the mushrooms that had originally brought her out into the stormy night, but the small trip was still taking time away from her quest which wasn't ideal. Even though she did feel a little grumpy about this surprise, she felt like it would be better to make sure nothing was wrong- after all, she did strongly believe that someone had cast Periculum, a charm used when in need of help. She didn't want to wake up tomorrow having ignored the sight and find out a fellow student had gotten hurt, or worst- they had died. So, putting her own search aside, she went to aid the mysterious person.

Pushing a branch aside that nicked her cheek with a small thin branch, Errol hissed but quickly silenced herself as she saw movement ahead in the darkness. Holding her breath she stayed where she was as she observed the small shadow moving blindly in the dark just a few steps ahead. Leaning forward, she had meant to stay silent as she stalked the figure, but being oblivious, she had stepped on a soggy branch that let out a crack that echoed into the night as it was split in two by her weight. Flinching, Errol quickly drew back into the shadows, afraid that her hiding spot had been revealed by this stranger who she had not yet identified as friend or foe. Above all else, she wished it wasn't a Professor who would deduct points from her house because of her reckless hunt for Foxfire mushrooms.

James had shot hot red sparks into the air, and part of him instantly regretted it. What if the bright red lights attracted the wrong type of person? What if he had just landed himself in a case of expulsion? That would not be good... at all!
But then again, maybe expulsion wasn't James' worst possibility right now. James told himself this, hoping it would make him feel better, but it opened up a whole new door of thinking that caused the exact opposite.
What if the sparks attracted some kind of monster or dangerous magical creature? Were there things like Giant Spiders or Werewolves out here? James seriously, seriously hoped not, also considering the fact that he had no idea where "here" was. He had a pretty good guess that he was somewhere in the Forbidden Forest, but again, there was that part of him that refused to accept that because a human mind must always have reservations, especially when being proven wrong or in danger.
James slowly began turning around, his wand gripped tightly at his side, squinting through the downpour and attempting to scan his surroundings for any movement. This was hard, because the rain and the wind made almost anything and everything move around in the dark night.
Suddenly, James heard something a little ways away. It was a sharp but low hum. No, more like a growl.
Petrified with fright, James froze and very slowly, trying not to make any noise, he rotated around to see what was making the noise. And then he saw it.
He couldn't identify it, but a dark shadowy figure was crouched in the bushes; perfectly still, and staring straight at James.
James gasped, his breathing becoming more rapid. He slowly brushed his wet, hanging bangs out of his face. He didn't dare move. He had seen these kinds of horror movies back in the Muggle world. If he took a step back, there was sure to be a loose twig that would snap and lead to bad, bad things.
So James stood there, staying absolutely quiet and not making any movements. But suddenly, from behind him, a loud twig could be heard snapping.
I didn't step back!!! he screamed internally.  But within a matter of milliseconds, whatever that shadowy thing was leaped forward and tackled James, knocking him to the ground, and James instantly felt claws in his shoulders.

Before the young girl had realized it, she had stumbled into the Forbidden Forest, but even as she crouched tucked away in one of the many unremarkable bushes inside of the dangerous forest, she was unaware the of the danger she, and the person she stalked, were in. Errol had no intention of setting foot into the shadowy forest that bordered the school grounds, already she was breaking rules, but she wasn't foolish enough to step foot into a danger zone that could get her expelled or worst- killed. She wasn't that foolish. She had heard the stories of what thrived in the thickets of those woods and she had no plans for seeing with her own eyes whether any of the rumours were true. That afternoon, when the sun was setting and it painted the sky in furious reds and passionate oranges, she had walked the path of the forest, marking the ground with a nearly invisible border of large rocks. At night it was supposed to show Errol where she was free to roam and where to stop, obviously, that had not worked because just beyond the border she had made, on the wrong side, she crouched in the rain, her hair soaked flat as it clung to her cheeks and neck. After tonight she would definitely have a cold, she was soaked all the way down to the pyjamas she wore underneath her thick, now soggy, robes. Any warmth she had clung to previously, rolled off of her skin in faint streams of smoke that disappeared into the night.

Squinting against the dark, Errol finally recognized the face of the shadowy figure as one of the fellow first-year Hufflepuffs, but before she could reveal herself, a phantom cloaked in night and fury pounced on to the boy from the dark, pinning him to the ground beneath its large body before Errol could let out a breath. It happened quicker than a blink of an eye and for a second, all Errol could hear was her heart racing and a scream that pierced the steady rhythm of the rain, her own scream. Stumbling backwards into the thickets, she tripped on a branch that had snagged her ankle and before she knew it she was sitting in the mud, watching between the spaces of branches as large claws sunk into Jame's shoulders. Her mind told her to run, to flee to the comfort of her bed and forget the night in the morning like it had all been a bad dream, that would be the safe thing to do, but not the right. Mindlessly her left hand patted down her side, searching her own body for the wand she had safely tucked away into the folds of her robe. "Hold on," she croaked out weakly to James as her fingers brushed against something hard and she pulled out her wand.

It's okay, no worries!

James was slammed into the ground, knocking his head into a state of extreme dizziness. His breath was stolen away for a terrifying moment, and then he felt the claws digging into his shoulders. James screamed, biting his lip, but not actually doing anything to muffle his shout of pain. He could taste blood on his tongue, and realized that his blood was painting the mud a brick red.
Don’t faint, don’t faint!
Gasping for breath while trying not to drown in his blood or the rain that was pelting down on his face, he looked up into the deathly eyes of the monster that was pinning him down. Eyes that seemed to be made of burning coal and hellfire, whatever that looked like, pierced James’ courage like a pin on a balloon. James saw wild shaggy hair flying in the wind and rain bend over him, and he could feel hot breath on his face. A sudden scream echoed from somewhere to his right, and James looked over at the same time the creature did.
Illuminated by the moonlight, two rows of sharp, jagged teeth were now visible to James. A crash of lightning above him in the sky flashed the monster’s whole face into view, and James saw what he could only describe as a giant wolf head.
The hideous beast was distracted, but James could not feel his arms, so no hope of providing a struggle and winning was present.

As soon as the beast's blazing eyes turned their attention to her, Errol nearly dropped her wand from the pure horror that coursed through her, numbing her mind with a terror she had never felt before. She tried to piece her scrambled thoughts back together for a way to save herself and the boy pinned beneath the mass of shaggy black fur, but her thoughts felt as slippery as fish between her fingers. The only reason she hadn't lost the grip on her wand was that her muscles had stiffened up and became rigid as if the gaze had turned her to stone. Errol's lips, pale from feverish fear, moved aimlessly as she tried to shape words, but any sound was lost in the rain, her words too weak and broken to form a workable spell, not that she had one in mind.

She didn't know any spells or charms that could rid this beast from the two of them, she never thought she would need to in her simple life, but obviously, fate had different plans for her. Trembling, she could barely keep her wand pointed at the creature that Errol was beginning to recognize as a wolf of sorts, with its long snout pointed in her direction and its stained lips pulled back into a snarl that revealed yellowing teeth, it had to be something of the sort. It let out a growl the caused Errol to whimper in submission but still, she stayed strong- she did know something that might work although she never attempted it. Her mouth worked to form the words Alarte Ascebdare but only a squeak came out, death was already stealing her breath even though he wasn't upon her.

Sniffling she regained her voice just enough for the words to be heard. "Alarte Ascendare!" she hissed into the night and waited for the monster to be thrown from the boy.

James lay under the wolfish creature, waiting for his death that should surely come. He clenched his teeth, still trying not to pass out due to his loss of blood. James could no longer recognize the pain in his shoulders, but it still hurt like heck, if that made any sense.
James squeezed his eyes shut, starting to feel in his throat that he could not hold off the gagging sensation he was getting from the blood and water in his mouth. He forced himself not to swallow, but instead burst out coughing out blood and rain onto the dirt next to him.
A growl issued from above him, and James took what he thought was going to be his last breath, but suddenly, a squelching sound echoed out and the monster was thrown off of James.
James screamed again, because the claws that had been dug into his shoulders had now been ripped out, causing the pain to return and more blood to come forth from his wounds.
Whimpering and hardly breathing, and shakily at that, James heard a thump to his left as the wolf monster hit the ground a few feet away. James was ready for it to pounce and finish him off, but it didn't.
James couldn't see, but the wolf turned and ran away. It retreated out of sight unusually from James and whoever had saved him.

Collapsing onto her back, Errol still held her wand tightly in her hand, but she almost let it slip from the grip of her fingers as a wave of exhaustion washed over her like a tidal wave. Closing her eyes against the rain, she didn't even mind that her hair was soaking in mud, although when that said mud dried later on into a crusty cast around her stains she would curse not pulling her hood back over her head when she had the chance, yet at the moment she was occupied with the overwhelming joy of being alive and unscratched. The moment of peace only lasted a heartbeat as it was interrupted by the wheezing of the boy who had failed to escape the claws of the beast.

Gasping, Errol nearly choked on her own breath as she shot up, her feet briefly slipping in the mud as she scrambled to get to the injured, once by his side she collapsed onto her knees, mud splashing onto the both of them from the force of her weight. "L-Lumos," she stuttered and watched as her wand cast a small pale light onto the both of them. A second later and she was biting her bottom lip to hold in a sob as she noticed that the boy hadn't been as lucky as her, his shoulders scared by claw marks. "Hold on," she said shakily as she patted herself down in search of something that would help her stop the wounds from bleeding, but Errol hadn't been prepared for this, all she had in her possession was her wand and even more useless, a thin ribbon that wasn't large enough to even wrap around the wound.

Grunting in dismay, she shined the light into the boys face seeing how he was coping with the injuries, which he wasn't. His face was sickly pale, looking more waxy grey than the colour it was supposed to be, and his eyes were slowly closing as his conscious was pulled away. Tapping his cheek lightly, Errol leaned over him, her red curls brushing his face gently with ticklish kisses as she shielded him from the rain. He couldn't sleep, she knew by some primal instincts, so she lightly slapped his cheeks. "Hey," her words were fierce as she demanded his attention "C'mon, we need to go back."

James lay in the mud, his only thoughts occupied by the desire to stay conscious, and alive!
He was laying on his back, but his head was turned to the side, causing the right side of his face to be covered and soaking in the mud.
Suddenly, a light shone above James, and his immediate thought, like anyone would have, was that he was about to die, and this was the light that was always talked about when one was about to die.
It wasn't until James recognized the word, "Lumos", that he realized he wasn't dead... at least not yet.
"Hold on." he heard whispered above him, from whoever was holding their light.
James' eyes fluttered open and close, glitching between consciousness and, well... that other thing.
He felt something soft brushing against his cheeks and face, and opened his eyes long enough to see fluffy red curls hanging over him. Well, that's all he knew about whoever this was. They were a curly redhead.
James suddenly felt vold, wet hands lightly slapping his cheeks.
"Hey!" C'mon, we need to go back!" Maybe she hadn't been yelling, but it sure seemed like it to James, whose ears were clogged with blood and mud, but also dizzy and distorted.
James managed to slowly nod, and turn his head upwards to look up at whoever was above him.
