The Fall Ball (Masquerade)

As the night went on, Felicia watched as more students trickled in and out of the Ballroom. She was comfortable leaning against the wall, observing the ballroom. The few people who had obliged her in conversation, had come and gone, so she was left to meekly find a place alone. She had been standing for quite some time, and her calves started burning. Hoping to find relief, she began to walk towards some open seats near the refreshments table. Just as she took her first step, a harrowing thunderclap resounded through the castled.Closed to new interactions
Felicia yelped as a transparent horseman made a loud and extravagant entrance. She fell to her knees and covered her head as translucent shards of glass showered the ballroom floor. Suddenly, she felt an icy wind chill the ballroom, sending shivers down her spine. The mysterious man looked frantic as he shouted out a confusing riddle. Felicia heart was racing, and she could barely concentrate as the ghost issued its proclamation to the entire room. All she could decipher from the message was that something terrible was happening in the castle.
After the ghost galloped away, Felicia stood up and looked around to see how everyone else reacted. Some students continued on with their usual antics, ignoring the scene that just played out. While others didn’t hesitate to investigate whatever was going on. Many of the students who marched out seemed confident and capable enough. Perhaps it would be intriguing to see her older, more experienced peers put their wizarding education to work. She felt the waist line of her dress to make sure she had her wand. She slipped the fir and unicorn hair wand out a conveniently sewn pocket and firmly gripped it between her fingers. After a deep breath, Felicia subtly followed a couple others out of the ballroom.

Soon, though, her attention turned towards her man of the hour, the one she was actually searching for in the first place. Despite the fact that he was wearing a mask, just like Heather, the girl was sure that she finally found her date amongst the sea of students.
"Rohan! Hey, I'm here!" She gestured towards the boy, seeing as he didn't seem to notice her. Soon, though, he recognized Heather and approached the blonde. "Thanks for coming. I-I mean, I know we had agreed to come together, but..." The tall girl trailed off, a bit unsure. Maybe it would be rude to say that she assumed the boy would bail on her? "I like your costume by the way," she said smiling, deciding to compliment the boy instead of voicing out her fears. There was no point in souring the night with her baseless assumptions- After all, she was the one late at the ball, too!
Deciding to try and get to know her partner better, Heather looked around the room, trying to find a subject to talk about. Well, she could try to get Rohan to do the thing she looked forward to the most. "Do you like dancing?" The Ravenclaw asked at the same time her date let out a loud yawn. "...Or perhaps you like sleeping more?" She said, a small smile playing at the corner of her lips, not betraying the deception she felt. It seemed like Rohan wasn't as energetic as she was, but the girl wasn't going to make him feel bad about that. Besides, the fun can come in many forms, not just in dancing!
Determined to not let anything destroy her mood, Heather nodded towards the table. "Come on, do you want to sit and eat some candy?" As she suggested that, the girl's eyes moved towards one pair approaching her, the same pair she'd looked at a few minutes ago.
"Heather, it's good to see you," the boy spoke, and she soon realized it was, indeed, her friend Henry. And that meant that his partner was... "Stellina! Henry! It's great seeing you two here, didn't know you knew each other. Um, yeah, I just got here, but so far it's great!" Heather exclaimed cheerfully. Turning to look at Rohan, Heather cleared her throat. "Guys, this is Rohan. Rohan, these are my friends- Henry and Miranda."
Despite her attempts at ignoring the Slytherin's teasing remarks, Heather's cheeks soon tinted red. "We're not dating! Don't embarrass me, Slytherin," she hissed through gritted teeth, smiling maybe just a bit too forcefully. Hopefully, Rohan didn't notice anything weird, he seemed like a cool boy, and Heather didn't want to scare him away. The night started out well, and she didn't want to make it awkward in any way.
But, even if the Ball had started on a good note, it didn't mean it was going to end like that. A sudden light flashed through the ballroom, screams coming out from some of the students. Heather froze in her tracks: it was a lighting bolt. And, just like the night her father found his doom, swallowed by the unforgiving sea, the flash of light embraced the room in a short-lived moment. Breath hitching in her chest, the girl would be taken out of her trance only when a strange, eerie voice was heard, giving the students a riddle to solve. A ghostly cat's gracious form was soon noticed, and the young Ravenclaw had no doubt that it was, indeed, the same pet who was to be followed.
Then, everything that followed happened so quickly. Students started moving all over the place, grouping together and following the animal. Henry left, muttering something about the Duelling Club, but not before kissing Miranda- and the Ravenclaw had a small fangirling moment at the realization that her best friends were dating! Though, that was something to fawn on later. Now, they had a riddle to solve. "Kara, wait for me!” Heather would approach her, after inviting Rohan and Miranda to come with her: "Are you two up for an adventure? I guess we can always return to the party if we get too tired!”
And, despite the budding excitement growing inside of her, something didn't sit well with the girl: what was the Ghost's name, and why it was so important?

Mon Dieu, this girl will be the end of me!
Smiling shyly, Louis nodded towards his date, extending his arm. "I'll never deny a chance of dancing with you, my lady," he said, a bit more confident than before. Now that he thought about it, Louis' fears were irrational: if Jacqueline thought weirdly of him, she wouldn't have accepted going to the Ball with him in the first place! So, even if the girl didn't fully share his feelings, it was still a fair chance that his blonde muse thought highly of the boy.
As expected, Louis let his date guide him towards the dance floor- after all, he faintly remembered that, during one of their talks, the young heiress mentioned taking dance lessons since childhood.
Suddenly, as if the gods were listening to his pleas, and wanted to apologize for the earlier problems they've caused, a slower song started playing, prompting the pair to step in closer.
While they started swaying around the ballroom, the blue-eyed child took in Jacqueline's features. Her eyes were closed, but her serene expression was priceless. She looked so happy in those moments- and the boy realized that she didn't wear this look on her face for some time now. Louis wanted to ask her to tell him what upset her, to get any problems off her mind, but despite his wishes to be someone Jacqueline could rely on, it wasn't the right place nor the right moment to find answers for his muse's unhappiness.
Just as Louis prepared to start talking to Jacqueline about the other children's costumes, a sudden light shone in the ballroom; echoed by a roar of thunder. What- was the window broken? "Jac, be careful!" The boy said hurriedly, bringing the girl closer to him and shielding her away from the large window. Though, soon he realized that they were both safe and sound; the only change that was to be noticed being the strange voice that echoed in the room, telling them about the time running out. Just... what was happening at Hogwarts?

Owl for Interaction!Elise was getting nervous. She saw couples waltzing around with huge, dazzling smiles, resplendent in ballgowns and tuxedos. No care in the world. If only she could be like that. As the atmosphere in the Masquerade grew more energetic, the ballroom of Hogwarts heated up. Elise shifted uncomfortably in her silk black ballgown. If only she could be like that. Elise was about to act on her own accord and find Maxi herself, but just then, the guy himself showed up and walked towards her, eyes twinkling, arm outstretched. Elise wasn't one to immediately note down someone's eye colour, but she realised that Maxi's eyes were a lovely dark grey. A unique colour, but certainly an attractive one. She blushed at the thought (blushed!) and let her hand go into his.
"Croyez-moi, le plaisir est tout à moi...Maxi,"* smiled Elise delicately. (delicately!) The last part was added on tentatively. "Si vous préférez Maximilien, c'est bien."**
"Et j'aimerais danser."*** Elise smiled again, unashamed and gave a little mock curtesy, laughing slightly as the pair started to dance. She remembered Estelle, her mother, had once taught her a few basic ballroom moves in a rare moment of joy. Little Elise had loved dancing and that hadn't changed.

The rider announced something in English that she could barely comprehend. She had learnt plenty of English in France, but it wasn't her mother tongue. Something about danger...a riddle...a first name...a graceful apparition. Elise peered cautiously as the rider exited the ballroom, a desperate look in his eyes. She noticed a cat slinking outside of the door, and students following it eagerly.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
Interaction: @Howard White
Mentions: @Aurelia Notrésvace
It didn’t seem like the two girls were for too long, though any time apart from Howard recently made the minutes and hours pass by that bit slower. Though he seemed to wear more of a concerned look on their return, one that was blatantly aimed at Aurelia. He probably sensed her hidden sadness. There wasn’t much Falentra could do about it, or Howard for that matter. Other than to just be there for her when she needed it the most.
The Gryffindor had a strong personality that some would find intimidating, but Fal just saw it as her guard, just like her rudeness too keep others away was her own.
Not even seconds would pass to allow Aurelia to respond to Howard’s concern for a boy around the same age, though dressed rather smart would appear. The Slytherin and Hufflepuff seemed to have already made up an option of the boy through their tone of voice and choice of questioning at one another. “Not a clue, looks a right posh git tho-” Aurelia’s date had interrupted with a rude remark of his own, though it seemed much harsher than hers.
Of course it affected Howard instantly. He had every right to react in whatever way he wanted with an insult as such. Falentra wasn’t all that impressed either. He insulted her boyfriend, which insulted her. She knew how much it got to him when people brought up his kind so to mock them on top of that... that was a death wish in the making.
Falentra watched anxiously yet a burst of excitement grew on her face as Howard’s anger progressed rapidly. Unable to contain her own anger, she decided to cheer on her partner as a release. “Hit him Howard! You gonna let him talk to you like that?” The Slytherin shouted out to express her frustration and soon followed beside her date, her fists clenching. She couldn’t help but want to take part in this. The dark side she always tried to keep hidden away started to slip. Howard had to it, and she knew it... else she’d have been attempting to stop him by now.
It was quite exciting— her and Howard causing their first fight together. It was like... the perfect date for the pair to look back on. Anyone else of course would think the pair was bloody barmy!
Unfortunately, a sudden burst of what Falentra thought was glass had shattered not far from the group. A ghostly figured made a dramatic appearance soon after, one that caught the full attention of Falentra. She wasn’t so much scared, or startled but rather curious of what he was rambling on about. Her emotions were so high and filled with complete rage that she wasn’t able to process the apparent riddle he spoke. But it was enough to make her want to follow and find out what he spoke of. And what that curious glowing cat was up to.
Her hands clasped around one of Howard’s arm, pulling with quite a bit of strength to get his attention brought her way. “Hey, Howard. Let’s leave this loser. He’s probably so far up his own arse he doesn’t even know what he’s talkin’ about.” Part of her wanted to throw a punch for Howard’s sake, if he hadn’t already but she knew her stamina wasn’t worth wasting on him. If Howard was to have thrown one, she would have laughed and grabbed him by the arms. Not that her strength could stop him, but more to try and divert his attention to her, and what her new interest was in. “Just saw this glowing..cat go out there. Looks suspicious and all. I reckon we should go an’ follow it.” She would pause only briefly to look over at the Gryffindor, her expressions seemingly tense and as though she wanted this to all just be over and forgotten about. “Aurelia... seems to be settled here and not for movin’.” As much as she wanted to look after Aurelia, she knew how stubborn she was too and it seemed like the matter would become more uncomfortable for her than it already was. She was a big girl anyway, the scars she had would show that.
In the meantime, if Howard was to listen to her and agree on accompanying her, the pair would make their way out from the ball and down to where the glowing cat had vanished off to.

Maybe it was the atmosphere, the nervosity and anxiety, fear even that seemed to fill the air in the ballroom. Except for the first years, most Hogwarts students were either aware of the chaos that the majority of events turned into, or blind.Mentioning @Percival Rainwood
Opeila didn't doubt for one moment that some students were only here to witness chaos, or cause it even. In that moment, where she was standing in the entrance, It got very tempting to just turn around and leave, hide from everyone and everything. And go where? To her dorm? Her common room? All alone to the rooms where they were attacked by spiders? No. Definitely no.
It was Percival's voice that pulled her out of her escape plans, asking her if he could have this dance. She was safe with Percival, right? He was naive, definitely, but he couldn't possibly be naive enough to not attend this event unarmed and defenseless, right? They were safe with one another.
Even more the way he asked his question brought something back to her mind that she had not thought of at all since he asked her to go here with him.
Opeila was lucky. Wasn't she? Wasn't she an extremely lucky person in this moment to be here with her boyfriend, this gentleman? The fear was pushed in the background, what did it matter. Whatever came, they would deal with it when it was there. It didn't matter now. Instead she felt her face heating up and her heart beating a little faster. "With the greatest pleasure, Mr. Rainwood.", she said, smiling at him. She took the arm he offered her and followed him to the already quite full dancefloor.
"I wonder how so many Hogwarts students come to those events. They never seem to end with anything but fire and horror.", she shared her thoughts, while they danced. Luckily dancing was one of the things her strict pureblood grandmother made sure she learned before she even reached the age of eight. Opeila never turned into a phenomenal dancer, but at least she never stepped on his feet.
Slowly the girl managed to loosen up. So far this ball was fine. Also when she looked at it logically, this was the best circumstances. There were two more schools here, more fighters when things went wrong. And so far nothing went wrong.
The loud noise of shattering glass made her jump- and now step on Percival's foot. Lucky him that his girlfriend- unlike many other girls in this room apparently- found high heels not fitting for her age and uncomfortable. And yes, maybe her grandmother had something to do with that opinion as well.
With widened eyes she looked at Percival. "What in the world... Should we check what happened?", she asked him.

Gorgeous post header by Lana MonetJacqueline opened her eyes again after a few moments and looked up at her friend, smiling. "You're a wonderful dancer," she said, complimenting him. She remembered telling him about her ballet lessons she took, but she didn't think he had said anything about being to dance well himself. Still, it was true, and Jac was glad. After a few minutes of dancing, she felt eyes on her and turned her head to one side to see who had been looking at her.
It had been a boy who looked around the same age as her sitting next to a lovely girl in a red dress. She flashed him a charming smile and then continued dancing with Louis. Jacqueline thought she might have seen him before, maybe he was from Beauxbatons as well? She was just about to ask Louis if he recognized the boy who had been looking at her and the girl in the red dress when she heard glass shattering and looked up, surprised. Before she got a good look at what had just happened, however, she felt Louis pulling her in closer to him, trying to protect her from the glass that was raining down on them.
It took a few moments for Jacqueline to realize, like everyone else in the ballroom, that the glass was not real. The rider who had just galloped in on his horse was translucent as well. Suddenly, he began to call out what sounded like instructions for some hunt. Intrigued, Jacqueline looked up at Louis to see what he though - and realized she was still standing very close to him. For some reason, it was like she was frozen in place. . . "Thank you, Louis," she finally said, her voice soft. He had thought the shards would be able to harm them like everyone else, and the very first thing he had done was to try and protect her.
"This hunt seems interesting," she said to him, her regular attitude starting to come back. "Imagine if someone from Beauxbatons saves Hogwarts from whatever this is?" she laughed lightly. "Should we. . ." the girl motioned to the people who were starting to leave the ballroom, most likely heaving decided to take part in the hunt. She really did hope he said yes. . . but if he didn't, she would stay back with him.
Louis agreed, and Jacqueline grinned. The pair walked out of the ballroom, following the other students who had decided to join this search for clues. The night was getting much more interesting, in Jac's mind, and she was excited. For the mods:

Erin would firmly plant the chair on the floor immediately adjacent to Quinn. She expected a free shot the first blow, it was brazen. It was unexpected. A hopeful series of events with a dark finality.Interacts With: @Quinn Healy, @Nico Shymane, @Kyle DeRook, @Jane Victoria

"Starling, I dont thi-"
Kyle tried to warn her. To verbally stop this act of madness. It was obvious that the girl was outmatched. David and Goliath but Erin did not have the power of an all-mighty being. He had seen how this went before, how her bones were crushed with ease. Erin remembered too. And she had warned Kyle, warned him of her ambitions. Of her aspirations. She was here for blood. She did not plan to survive this, Kyle was not here for her protection but rather for theirs. The others, they were collateral damage. Forces and faces that would be left bloody in the wake of this fray. She held no sentiment for them, they were probably not who she thought they were anyways.
Her fist would make impact with Quinn's... well, ribs... no, a little jump considering his towering height despite the chair she stood on was necessary for her to sock him in the jaw. It was like punching a tree. His flesh and bone unyielding despite her best effort that would topple a great many of her peers, her attack seemed to do nothing to him.
She did not regret the attempt. This was what she wanted, everything that she expected.
"alright you need to back off"
Her date would announce as he strode towards the brawling duo. "Get back!" She warned, her voice elevated nearly an octave. There was no lies, no posturing. Quinn would kill him. He was going to kill her, hopefully first. "Get these idiots away!" They were going to get themselves wrecked in the crossfire. As it was, Shymane and blue eyes (Santario) might end this evening broken. They were not her target but she was not going to hold back because couple of irrelevants tried to get involved.
“Rictusempra!” Someone cried. Someone, no not just someone... a fellow snake, not that she was good with names. Not that she could trust herself to recall the right face. It was someone, someone that resembled a person she had seen before. Someone she would hold these actions against, even if it was a lie. Falsely accused for the actions of their doppleganger.
'Quinn!'
Of course his date would cry. There was no time for her theatrics. "You don't want to see this, the only warning the girl would get because Erin was not going to back down. Not that she thought she could win. That she thought she would end the part giant's rampage. That was never the intention.
'E-Erin! What are you doing?! Leave him alone!'
There was no answer. Erin was watching the chaos unravel around her. Kyle DeRook was hit by a Rictusempra intended for her. "Shit," she grunted as she pushed against Quinn with both her hands. An attempt to outmuscle a mountain, not because she thought she could but because she had the survival instinct the rest of them had.
'Flipendo!'
The Slytherin announced her word of power with brandished wand. "Not a chance! Erin roared. An unseen force would hit Erin in her midsection, she would be launched back as she was taken from her feet. She would hit the floor hard and she would slide across the glossy dancefloor surface.
"Are you guys bloody mad? Attacking during a dance, the doors right there ya know."
Someone the Slytherin did not know asked, not that mentioning a relocation would end this fray. "Not a damn chance," Erin announced as she scrambled to her feet. "No witnesses in the hall," she ran her hand over her left arm. Abraded from the flippendo, movement and air caused the raw surface to sting.
Quinn was coming for her, as she knew he would. Like a bull seeing red, Erin sneered at the enraged madman. "End me before I end you," she dared her. Her legs shook, not from fear but rather excitement. The bliss that accompanied the pain, how red overtook the empty void. Fear had abandoned her, leaving only hollow ambition and interminable pride.
No chair to grant her the lesser disadvantage of height Erin was not going to back down as she made a backwards step away from the part giant. She was not running, she was calculating. Were to aim, what was a man's achilles? Ah, and right about fist height... [Not spelling it out for you.] Her sore punching hand would curl into a tight fist, "...again." The voice came out in a growl only Quinn could hear.
Fight me.
Break me. End this.
Others, relative unknowns would intercede. On her behalf? No, her fists a greater threat than a rampaging giant. Than the two girls with drawn wands. Kyle was aiming for Quinn, a bad move. Run -- her mind urged him but her mouth would not say anything.
Action: Punching Quinn again. [Unless I am doing some fancy air jumpy thing probably wont be the jaw.]

"Definitely not. But the peacocks certainly do." He replied to her comment about love with a smirk on his face as he tipped his head slightly to the couples fawning over each other as though they were soul mates or something ridiculous. Really though, true love? Please. Arjan was not even sure if such a concept existed. Marriage was just to enhance the status of your family, of course. True love or soul mates were dreams of those who still believed in fairytales - which he never did. He was no prince charming by any means, nor did he have any intentions of being one. But he could engage in civil conversation, so he continued, "Oh, and what little fantasy would you enjoy, if I may ask?" He asked, not actually expecting a direct answer to that. It may be a bit personal. But it sparked her curiosity.
He was a little surprised at her response. Tradition, support and company. Those were what she was looking for at this time. Oddly enough, those were likely things he could manage. The party seemed to be in full fledge already - and the chaos was already kicking off with a group of raised voices. He could not help but let his eyes wander over to the loud noises. He made no attempts to move or do anything though, just trying to look for it.
The Durmstrang boy allowed his eyes to wander over to where the girl had pointed out her friend, who appeared to be in a very... nature themed outfit. Co-ordinated. He personally preferred the Beauxbatons uniform but insulting her friend was probably not the smartest move. For once, he stayed quiet, nodding. He did notice that the girl [@Aaron Jones's iNPC Maddie] was approached by a boy and invited to dance very soon after. "Well, it seems like your friend is headed to the dance floor. If I may be so bold, I would be honoured to accompany you if you wished to join her?" He asked, offering his hand, inviting her to dance in his own way, "Or... Since you didn't say that you liked to dance, perhaps we could get something to drink instead?" Arjan offered his company.
A ghost came riding into the ball. Shouting about some sort of tradegy, challenge and a riddle. Curious. But not enough for him to actually bother to do anything about it. He would much rather just... drink and eat food. Was that an option? Doing a challenge or a riddle seemed like a really bad idea, given how he usually just... punched his way through his problems. That was likely not what she was looking for.

The student that he was searching for was not present, as far as he could tell. However, from what he knew about @Jake Morris, the small boy could easily be hiding under a table cowering in fear or being forcibly hidden by his housemates. That Head of House of his, for example, seemed to always be lurking every time Lazarus attempted to get close. He frowned for a brief moment as his gaze fell on the entrance of a man with a similar height to his own. Speaking of the badger... He watched @Caradoc Browne walk through the ballroom, not noticing him. Even now, it looked like he could not escape him. Lazarus stared at him for a few moments, watching him walk to the side and making a mental note of where he was.
Looking across the ballroom, he noticed a few other adults. He did not recognise them all but there was certainly a representation at this year's ball. His attention was drawn back to his personal space as a figure approached him. With a bold smile on his face, "Miss Maya, just the lady I was looking for!" He greeted her with a dramatic bow as he rolled his wrist in air, bending his arm by the elbow. The spinning arm went in front whilst his other bent behind him as he bowed forward. Instantly deciding to take advantage of the opportunity, he wasted no time in continuing before he could get interrupted by an unwanted visitor.
Lazarus smiled towards the lady in front of him. With his left hand extended, holding his palm out towards her as he offered her his hand, "May I have this dance?" It was definitely a good opportunity to quickly secure for the next dance before he had to explain himself, yet again. That had been far too awkward. This was far better.

The Masquerade was fast-paced. In just a matter of seconds between introducing her presence to Lazarus Plott and him asking Maya for a dance, there was already another activity for students to participate in. The sound of glass breaking outside of the ballroom got Maya's ears to perk, but then only realizing that it was just a ghost to help gather the children together. Her attention went back to Lazarus who had his left hand stretched out asking for a dance.
"Of course," she said, taking his left hand with her right. Maya began to walk towards the middle of the ballroom dance floor with her hand still in his. As she was walking, she was keeping an ear and eye open of anything happening around them. Something big-- not caring for students who were dueling each other because they had no social-emotional development in communicating with each other.
"Enlighten me, Headmaster Plott. How does it feel strengthening the next generation of witches and wizards as Head of Illvermorny?" she asked with a crimson smile, complimenting his power as head of the largest American school. If he had an ego, she was definitely feeding it.
