Lorelei ducked into the open courtyard on the chilly autumn afternoon, grinning. He mom had sent her a package with a collcetion of new comics that had arrived since she'd went to Hogwarts, along with some of her old favorites. She found a small corner, with a nice patch of sunlight, and settled down to read. She spread the comics out around her, sorting through what she had. A cool breeze ruffled the pages of her collection. There were some ancient Captian America and the Howling Commandos comics from her muggle grandad old favorites, some newer Docter Strange and Spiderman comics, including one of the newest editions, and of course her collection of post-series Avatar comics. She immediately grabbed her well worn copy of The Search, one of the Avatar comics, and stacked the rest based on their subject. She brought her knees to her chest. Settling into a comfortable reading postion, she flipped the comic open, glancing at her watch quickly to check the time. She took a deep breath, enjoying the day, and began to read. "Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Fan and Sword!" She whispered dramatically to herself, punching the air on the last . She burst into laughter, then shook her head and went back to reading.

Maison was itching to get out of the castle and blow off some steam. He had severely underestimated how difficult learning magic would be. It was unfair that seemingly every other student at this school was wizard-born. They had grown up watching their mums and dads and siblings do magic. For Maison, magic had been nothing more than stuff of fantasy. The art of learning and practicing magic was nothing like it was in the films.

While he probably should have been getting a head start on his studying, Maison needed an escape. He tucked his muggle football into his bag in the hopes that he’d stumble across one of his friends and entice them into a little one-on-one match, and set off for the courtyard.

Despite nearly getting lost on multiple occasions, Maison managed to navigate from Gryffindor tower to the courtyard with relative ease. They really should give first years a map or something. Maison’s mind was far too preoccupied with other matters to concern himself with memorizing passages or patterns of the moving stairways.

His gaze scanned the courtyard upon entering, frowning upon realizing that the scene was rather quiet, with his friends nowhere to be found. Just as he was going to turn around and search elsewhere, his gaze locked on a student whose face was hidden behind a book. This wasn’t just any book, however. Excitement bubbled up within Maison as he recognized the all too familiar faces of Aang and Zuko on the cover.

Unable to contain himself, Maison moved towards the other student fervently, proclaiming once he was within her vicinity, “I didn’t know there were Avatar comics!” Probably because you don’t like to read, a voice in the back of his mind added, “That’s so cool! What’s this one about?”

Lorelei looked up as an unfamiliar Gryffindor boy came towards her, excited about her comic

"Oh, uh,"
she said, slightly confused "Yeah, it takes place right after the show. There's a whole bunch of them, this one is about Zuko and Azula's search for their mom, Ursa. They're pretty cool, and they've got ones for Legend of Korra too!" she was starting to get excited now, she hadn't had much of a chance to talk about muggle culture. Most of her conversations so far had either been with one or more purebloods or about school. "You like Avatar?" she asked "Who's arc is your favorite? I love Zuko's, he's got the best written redemption arc in pretty much any fiction series ever!" she grinned "It's so hard to find people to talk about muggle culture with here, I'm almost always with one or more purebloods. Or the topic of focus is school stuff anyway."

Lorelei let her knees fall from her chest, shifting so they were instead under her. She sat a little taller, excited to meet someone with similar intrests to her, and motioned to the stack beside her "I just had my mum send me my whole collection, you can borrow them if you'd like. The Lost Adventures comes first" she said, tugging her copy from the stack, which proceeded to tip over. She frantically started re stacking the comics.

Maison could hardly contain his excitement. While he was slowly beginning to assimilate into the customs of the wizarding world, he still often found himself feeling misunderstood. Not many students here shared in his love of muggle football or video games or television shows. Heck, he wouldn’t be surprised if some students here didn’t even know what a television was. The letters he often exchanged with his fathers and brothers offered him some solace, but he knew what he needed was a friend here at school who could share in his excitement about the things that had played such a defining role in his childhood.

“Zuko’s my favorite as well!” Maison exclaimed. “I also rather like Katara’s, but nothing can compare to Zuko’s wicked redemption arc.” It had been several years now since Maison had watched the show, but it was one that had left a lasting impression on his mind. “I get what you mean, though. It’s a weird feeling. I grew up with this stuff my entire life, and now no one here has the faintest idea what I’m talking about. Tried to explain Animal Crossing to one of my dorm-mates the other day and he just stared at me like I’d grown three heads or something.”

The Gryffindor boy moved to crouch beside the other girl, his eyes lighting up at her offer. “Can I really?” His heart skipped a beat. Anyone who knew Maison knew how much he hated reading, but he was sure that this was loads more interesting than his History of Magic book. And it was mostly pictures, anyway. “I mean, if you’re sure…” he trailed off, eyes glancing over the comics that had fallen from her stack. “Whoa! You’ve even got Marvel comics, too!”

Lorelei nodded, glad to find someone else with similar interests "Of course! These ones are ancient" She said, seperating the old Captian America comics from the others "My great-grandad worked overseas in America during part of the war, and he brought these back for his son. The ones are newer though" she motioned to the Spiderman and Doctor Strange comics. "And of course you can read them! It's great finding someone else who loves these characters." She nodded at the Marvel comics again
"I actually know the movies better than the comics. They follow similar plots, for the most part, but the films can be more streamlined. Theres less to keep track of. It's why I prefer the older comics, like these ones. Instead of a whole story arc, it's just each new mission of the Howling Commandos. Occasionally they'll reference an earlier issue, but if you missed it or can't find a copy, you generally haven't missed to much of the story"

She shifted her position so he could see the comics better "Who's your favorite hero? I love Spiderman, Doctor Strange, and The Winter Soldier slash Bucky Barnes! Bucky is the real reason I like my granddad's old Captain America comics."

Ancient? Maison eyed the Captain America copies the other girl was referring to. If these had been around in her great-grandad’s time, then… well, Maison couldn’t even begin to fathom how many comics would have been issued in the time since then. Perhaps that’s why they were so confusing to follow. He wouldn’t even know where to begin.

“I’ve only ever seen the films myself, and I know them like the back of my hand. Ragnarok’s my favorite. I’ve seen it probably a hundred times.” He had spent many rainy days cooped up inside with his brothers watching Marvel films. And if it wasn’t raining, they were often playing pretend in the field behind the Pritchard home, pretending to be Marvel superheroes and defeat Thanos (a role that was usually forced upon his youngest brother).

And now for the dreaded question. Maison could never quite decide on a favorite superhero. “I can’t say I really have a favorite,” he admitted, “I like them all! Although I suppose I relate to Spiderman quite a bit. Except I can’t climb walls or shoot webs.” Well, now that he was a wizard, anything was possible. “I also quite like Iron Man… and Black Widow… Oh, and of course The Mighty Thor!” Maison puffed out his chest, placed one hand on his hip, and pretended to wield Mjolnir in the other. Glancing back towards the Ravenclaw girl, he giggled, realizing he hadn’t introduced himself yet. “Also, I’m Maison, by the way. What’s your name?”
