Little Talks
As the crisp air of Autumn nipped at Lennox's cheeks, the girl couldn't help the soft smile that crept onto her lips. Sure, the days where sitting in the courtyard to enjoy the outdoors were numbered, with winter on the near horizon, but being out with the white noise of leaves rustling and the murmur of other students' conversations helped Lennox feel truly at peace. If she were indoors, she tended to throw herself back into her studies, always working to best herself on the previous grade. This year, though... this year, she promised herself that while she valued her studies, it wouldn't become the center of her universe again, especially when it had dawned on her that she truly was becoming the stereotype she wanted to avoid: the Ravenclaw who didn't know how to have fun and had their nose cemented into their books. So, she had told herself if pushing herself to get out of her room and go outside was the best way to break her workaholic habits, then that was what she would do.October 25th, 2020

Lennox pulled her hair up into a bun that was on the messier side, a few tendrils of her chocolate-brown hair framing her face, her knapsack hastily thrown over one shoulder as she pulled it to her front, trying to dig through her bag to make sure she had everything she needed for today's piece. The curvature and structure of the stonework on the castle was what she hoped to capture in her feat for the day: working with charcoal for the first time. Art had become a rather therapeutic means of entertainment for the young Ravenclaw, with her preferred mediums typically being the written word or paint. Recently, she had decided she wanted to become more open and affiliated with other mediums, through sketches or drawings versus easy-to-correct forms of artwork. Yet another means of pushing the boundary on what she was comfortable with.
Her eyes traveled around the courtyard as she looked for a place to sit, many groups of students from various houses having the same idea as her in regards to being outdoors on what felt like one of the last warmer weekends they would have that year. Pushing the sleeves of her seal-grey sweater up as she trailed off the walkway and onto the grass, Lennox found a spot near the original walkway, but far enough that she wouldn't have to worry about the breeze of someone walking by sending her papers in a flurry. Once at that spot, she sat, hoping that her jeans would spare her the horror of grass stains and the pain they were to get out.
After sitting, she pulled out her sketchbook, flipping through the pages full of everything from still-lives to scribbles until she found a blank page. Reaching into the pencil case she had placed beside herself, she found the piece of charcoal she had stashed in there for this very project, working out a way that was best to grip for herself. Her eyes flickered up between the paper and her surroundings, and when she felt like she had an adequate surveying of the place around her, she began sketching the initial lines, allowing her worries to quell as she began to try and focus on her work. As she worked, she noticed she was having a bit of trouble focusing, often finding herself space out and look up between the work and the world around her, her mind abuzz with the need to do anything but she set out to do. Lennox huffed, resting her elbow on her knee, chin in hand as she allowed herself time to just absorb her surroundings, taking in all the happenings. There was no point in fighting with a dead muse. Rather, one must simply wait for its return.

Howlers, oh how Adlai disliked them. How on earth did her Great Aunt know she was failing transfiguration and potions anyway? Wouldn't her parents be getting letter about her grades and not her aunt? After being sent practically the third one this month Adlai decided it would be best to turn her attention else where. And what other place to turn her attention than tennis. Having picked up her racket and shoved a ball into the never ending pocket of her ankle length skirt she had made her way out into the courtyard. So far she hadn't met a single student who played or knew what tennis was.
She was sure she looked like a complete maniac to her fellow classmates as she hit the ball repeatedly with her racket against one of the free walls of the courtyard.
She didn't care though, since this was one of the only things that kept her grounded. At Hogwarts everything was also changing and was new. Coming from a muggle family everything she saw was mind boggling. However, tennis was familiar and she liked to think that she knew all the tricks that was tied to it. Though in reality she only knew about thirty percent of them.
Nonetheless, even with the chilly air of autumn she still swung on the fuzzy neon green ball with all of her might.
