Waiting for @Rose Moon and @Ginevra Tsuchiya as their iNPCs

Outfit of the day:
Reducio

Nervous was an understatement. This is how Elisabeth felt about that afternoon. It was one fine Sunday in October, and the clock showed five to four pm, so neither weather nor school was the eleven-year-old's concern. The truth is, she was waiting for a boy she did not know to arrive here, at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. Two boys she did not know personally, to be honest. And it was the first time the girl had ever done something like this.

Elisabeth was not the type of person who enjoyed blind dating; so how did everything happen?

It was simple, and yet slightly complicated all at the same time. Her senior, Rose Moon, wanted to introduce Elisabeth to her cousin's closest friend who went to Ilvermony. The reason? So they could consider going to the upcoming interschool Autumn Dance at Hogwarts together. And why is this? Because the boy was Mexican and Elisabeth was Belizean.

The Hufflepuff was honestly excited that she was about to meet someone from her area, but she was also concerned about many things. What if the boys she was going to meet were not nice? she thought. Or, what if they were, but she made a bad first impression?

There was "only one time" (or, in Spanish, solamente una vez) to make a first impression, so she had to made the best out of this chance. About an hour ago, two or three hours after her lunch, Elisabeth had brushed her teeth even though usually she only did it after breakfast and before going to bed. The girl had also chosen her clothes carefully, and put on a little natural make up. She originally considered to let her shoulder-length hair down as usual, but after thinking that they would have ice cream, she decided to put it up in a ponytail, tied neatly with a dark blue ribbon.

Now all she had to do was wait; and to help ease her mind, the Latinx-Asian student took out her copy of Ribbon's Ribbons and Other Short Stories and enjoyed it before the two Ilvermony boys started to arrive.

Drew did not get many opportunities to tease Greg about girls. It was rare that a girl would catch Greg's eye, and it was even more rare that Greg would catch a girl's eye. Apparently people thought Greg was... scary? Drew didn't see it- Greg was harmless. He wouldn't hurt a fly, let alone another human. Or, he couldn't hurt another human.

Take today, for example. Greg hadn't wanted to meet this girl that Rose had suggested he go with to the ball by himself. Apparently Rose had found out she was without a date as well as a Spanish-speaker and had suggested that since Greg didn't have a date, either, maybe they could go. Either as friends, or as more, or... Well, that's where Rose trailed off.

So Drew was going with Greg to meet this lovely Elisabeth Erner at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor. Drew had brought money, enough for them each to have something. They were walking toward the parlor. "What's going through that big brain of yours?" he asked. Maybe Greg didn't really want to do this in the first place. "You nervous?" Of course he was nervous. Greg barely ever talked to girls, when he talked to people other than Drew at all. Drew wanted to give him the opportunity to tell him what he was thinking about all this before they dove into interacting with another person. He listened to anything Greg wanted to tell him. Or, well, anything that came out of his mouth, really. Drew didn't want him to think he didn't have his complete support. "You don't have to go with her romantically if you don't want to. You guys can always go as friends. And, like, you don't have to go at all with her if you don't want to," he reassured him.

Once Greg was done talking about whatever he wanted to, Drew opened the door, letting Drew walk in first. Rose's description of the girl had been- "A stunningly beautiful, Asian-Hispanic girl. She's a first year, so she's eleven or twelve. Long, dark hair and light skin." You know Rose. Very specific, as specific as possible. Rose had offered to come with the two boys, but Drew shook off the offer, insisting they would be okay. Drew led the way, which was not uncommon for the two boys, near a a girl that matched the description perfectly. "Excuse me, are you Elisabeth Erner?" Drew caught her attention. "I'm Andrew, but just call me Drew. And this is..." he trailed off, letting Greg introduce himself. I mean, it technically was his future date or friend. Drew could find his own date easy-peasy. It would be hard and weird for Drew to be quiet, especially because of how rare that was with Greg. "It's nice to meet you."

On the Way

"I'm not nervous," said Gregorí stubbornly. "I just don't see the point of meeting a girl I don't personally know just for the sake of having a so-called date for a school ball." He pouted a little, having just recovered from cold (See "Sensational: Ilvermony Arrival") did not seem to improve his mood at all. He was still a bit tired actually, but not that he would admit it to Drew.

"If it's just a matter of having more friends, that's different. That's fine by me."

Drew began to "lecture" him about going as friends, or even not going with her at all, but seriously! If the girl knew they would be introduced for the purpose of that so-called date stuff and he refused taking her, that may (nay, most likely would) hurt her feelings. But still, for someone as brutally honest as Gregorí, there should be no play-pretend: no taking someone out if he was not serious, or genuine, about it.

You can call it a dilemma if you want to.

At Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour

It was Drew who opened the door for them both. Weirdly there was not so many people despite the fact that it was Sunday, so it was not very difficult too to find this Hogwarts girl. Drew took the lead (not that it was unusual), asking a dark-haired student if she was the right person. He also did not fail to introduce himself without waiting for the girl to reply yes or no.

Typical Drew. Gregorí smiled to himself. Do first, think afterwards.

He did not feel very comfortable when his closest friend just suddenly decided to introduce him as well (still without checking whether or not he got the right student). But the harm was done, so there was nothing Gregorí could do except to tell the girl his name. "Gregorí," he said shortly.

"It's nice to meet you," said Drew again, and Gregorí felt like hiding himself in a hole on the ground. Drew, please! Make sure she's really the student we're supposed to meet before saying all these!

Elisabeth looked up as a voice called her. Putting down her book onto her lap, she saw two very different boys. One was tall and muscular with blond hair, lime green eyes, and fair skin. The other boy had jet-black hair and dark eyes, and was kind of short. He did not look as tall and broad as the Caucasian boy, but he did look strong and powerful nonetheless.

The blond student was the one who had talked to her before, and Elisabeth assumed that he was the more outgoing of the two. He did look somewhat cheerful and relaxed, in contrast with his quiet and serious-looking friend. He also introduced himself and gestured to the other kid, who simply said out his own given name: Gregorí.

"Yes, I'm Elisabeth," the girl answered after Drew - the taller boy - finished speaking. "Pleased to meet you too, Drew. You must be Rose's cousin." After that, turning to the Hispanic boy, she welcomed him as she had welcomed his friend. "I'm so happy to meet you, Gregorí. Please, do have a seat. You too, Drew." She gestured to the two empty chairs at her table.

After both Ilvermony students had settled in their chairs, Elisabeth suggested, "Shall we order first? What would you two like to have?"

Okay. So Greg had no romantic interest in her after all. This was a matter of friends to Greg. That was fine with Drew- he could live with that. Though he wished Greg would let him tease him about it. "Okay, okay, no need to be grumpy about it, Greg," Drew's voice was sarcastic. He hadn't ever actually seen Greg as grumpy ever before, not only because he didn't look that closely, but also because he knew Greg wasn't really grumpy all the time, even though he looked like it.

Drew tried to lighten the mood, lightly, lightly nudging him with his shoulder. Drew had come to watch his actions around Greg. Just because Drew was strong didn't mean he wanted to hurt his best friend every time he touched him. It lightened the mood, Drew grinning at his friend. "Hey, loosen up. You're right, it's just meeting someone we want to be our friend."

In the parlor, it turned out the girl was actually the one they were looking for. Of course she was. He knew that.

Drew did sit down, comfortably angling himself around the circular table so the three of them were an even space apart.

Her answers were stiff and measured. She even said "shall." Who said shall nowadays? Maybe fancy English purebloods did, but even though Drew was a pureblood, the only time he would probably ever say "shall" would be because he was reading or repeating something. The word "shall" felt so cold, Drew didn't think it should be used in everyday talk. It was an essay word.

Shall. Ha.

Anyway, Drew wasn't too fazed by it. She asked what they were gonna order (except she used more fancy words than that), and Drew said, "Something chocolate." Drew loved chocolate. And what better to order than some chocolatey goodness during their visit with Elisabeth. He reached over to the middle of the table, where the napkins and menus were- there were three menus. He handed one to Greg and one to Elisabeth, looking through the menu. Chocolate... "I think I'll get the Neapolitan," He announced, referencing to the three-scoop thingy. He wasn't bothered enough to read the entire thing, advertising how amazing that particular ice cream was. "You guys?"

He let them talk about what they were going to get. If any silence passed, Drew would attempt to make more conversation. "So Elisabeth, I'm told you know Spanish?" He would then sit back and let Elisabeth and Greg connect over their Spanish stuffs. That was his plan, anyway. And Drew had total confidence it would work.

When all three of them had sat comfortably around the circular table (Gregorí preferred a rectangular, or at least a square, one though), Drew took three menus and passed two of them around to Elisabeth and Gregorí.

The American quickly decided that he wanted something called Neapolitan, but Gregorí took his time scanning through the list of ice creams offered in Florean Fortescue's. He had never got the chance to enjoy much ice cream, and to be honest, now he was amazed to learn that single scoop ice cream had more flavours than chocolate and vanilla. These two were the only flavours he had ever tasted back home.

Florean Fortescue's even offered strawberry ice cream. Strawberry ice cream! Gregorí wondered how it tasted; he loved strawberry milk, but not strawberry the fruit itself (it was not sweet enough!) - and not even strawberry milk tea. But logically, ice cream should taste most similarly to milk, right? The Mexican decided to try what the menu called "Macedonian Strawberry", and silently pointed at it to indicate that he had decided what to order.

He did not even say a word such as "this", or a phrase like "this one", and perhaps that led to Drew's decision to break the silence. "So Elisabeth, I'm told you know Spanish?" he asked the girl who was still studying her menu.

"Huh? Oh right, - I mean, yes," replied Elisabeth awkwardly. She was still trying to decide what to order and thus concentrate on the menu book in her hands when Drew asked her if she happened to speak Spanish. Her concentration was divided, and that was the result: an awkward answer spoken in a mixture of Spanish and English. "Lo siento (sorry), please let me finish this first."

Because she was the host, Elisabeth gave Drew and Gregorí's orders to the cashier instead of waiting for either of them to do so. And of course, she told him what she wanted to have as well. ("One American Beauty, please - but may I have strawberry ice-cream instead of vanilla? Yes? Thank you!")

The girl returned to her seat and tried to start a conversation with the two Ilvermony kids. "Where were we? Oh right, speaking Spanish. Do you, Drew? Seguro que Gregorí habla español, ¿sí? Gregorí, es de México ¿verdad? Soy de Belice." *)

She was quiet after that, her cheeks flushed from feeling that she had been talking too much and not giving the two boys enough chance to speak. Well, hopefully they would not be mad... and perhaps, after this they would have a more enjoyable conversation - especially after their ice-creams had come.

*) I'm sure Gregorí speaks Spanish... right? Gregorí, you're from Mexico, aren't you? I'm from Belize. (Spanish)

Elisabeth's answer was a mixture of Spanish and English, making it so that Drew only understood some of it. But he understood just enough to answer her.

"Of course," Drew answered, when she asked him to wait. You know, choosing ice cream is a very important decision. If you picked the wrong flavor, you were either forced to eat it because you didn't want to insult the person paying, or you were just stuck with no ice cream. But eventually both Elisabeth and Greg had chosen their ice creams, and Elisabeth ordered for them.

Elisabeth asked if Drew knew Spanish, and Drew shook his head. "No, I don't. It would be cool, though." Then Elisabeth said something in Spanish that Drew had no idea what it meant. Because he didn't speak Spanish. It sounded beautiful what she said, though, with her accent, it sounded perfect the way she said it. So instead of blabbing his mouth off like usual, he let Greg talk to Elisabeth about or in Spanish. Of course, Greg could decide to be quieter and Drew would have to help move the conversation along. But he hoped Greg would decide to talk and try to get this new friend.

Gregorí was so excited to hear the girl spoke in Spanish that he almost forgot that Drew could not. "That's right, I'm from Mexico. South Mexico, so it's even nearer to your hometown. Have you ever been there?" He said all of these in his mother tongue, even though not very fast just as some people unconsciously tended to do when speaking to fellow native speakers. (As a result, of course everybody could guess, his closest friend would not understand even the slightest idea, in contrast with the Hogwarts girl. But perhaps he could grasp the word "Mexico"!)

Their orders came just then, and all ice-creams looked equally delicious. Drew had Neapolitan, which was a three-flavoured ice-cream of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. Elisabeth's was something called American Beauty, served in an elegant tall glass with whipped cream, strawberry sauce, a cherry, and a wafer (the ice-cream was originally vanilla, but she had asked to have it changed to strawberry, Gregorí had heard her requested it to the cashier). Gregorí's order Macedonian Strawberry looked the simplest of the three, with only some scoops of strawberry ice-cream in a wide-brimmed glass. But it still looked good anyway.

He said simple grace inside and began to enjoy his ice-cream whilst waiting for Elisabeth's reply.

Elisabeth shook her head at the question Gregorí asked her. "No, no he estado nunca en México. Sólo en Indonesia y Reino Unido... y naturalmente en Belice!" *) she replied, smiling at her own little joke. Well, maybe it was not necessarily a joke, but the Hufflepuff did say it so as to make the situation even for friendly for the two students she had just got to know.

At that moment, she also remembered that Drew had told her he did not speak Spanish. Thus, Elisabeth decided to translate (or well, at least summarise) things she and Gregorí had been talking about. She understood very well the American might feel left out, or at very least, bored because he most likely had no clue on the conversation between the two people he shared a table with.

"We were talking about countries we'd had the chance to visit," she explained in a friendly tone. "Gregorí just asked if I'd been to his home country, but I said no, I'd only got the chance to visit Indonesia, the UK, and of course Belize."

Their ice-creams came, and Elisabeth said, "Excuse me for a minute," to the boys before reciting a short prayer inside. After that, she scooped a spoonful of her American Beauty before deciding to ask Drew the same question: "What about you? Which countries have you been to?"

Translation
*) No, I've never been to Mexico. (I've only visited) Indonesia and the United Kingdom... and naturtally, Belize! (Spanish)
