The Way Of The Snakes
Interacting with @Cassandra Ironwoods
She was breaking. She knew it.
Grey eyes stared at the scene before her. There was a pearly glow in the sky caused by the sun who was just risen from its slumber, and the light was enough for Arissa to make her way to the place she was confident to be the most deserted this early in the morning, the Great Lake.
Or Black Lake. Whatever suited the person.
Arissa could see the interior of the Great Lake from the Common Room; the great squid, the Gryndilows, the Selkies, Merpeople and of course, the Great Squid. These creatures were passing by the windows, so often that she was sure she's seen them all.
But walking up here feels different. The Great Lake wasn't so intimidating on the surface.
Just like you isn't it? Arissa.
So calm under the surface, but what truly lies within that heart of yours? Beneath that smile of yours?
The voice was haunting her. Silky yet malicious. Just like a snake.
It was a beautiful morning, with fresh breeze blowing softly through her blond hair, and Arissa could literally felt the fresh air on her face. It was so beautiful that Arissa felt guilty of showing up with her current emotion. It's as if she was tarnishing the beauty of nature with her tainted presence.
She felt so sick, so awful for acting like everything was okay when she's about to crumble inside. Then suddenly, she heard a voice inside her head, but unlike the malicious voice just now, it was familiar. The very voice that brought her to this lake.
Quite unlike your father isn't it, little Miss Wright?
Shut up.
More ambitious than your mother.
Shut it.
You're well suited to be a Sly-
"I don't want to be a Slytherin! "
Arissa threw a pebble into the lake, viciousness flashed in her eyes. If somehow, she was seen by Slytherin students that she come across frequently in the Common Room, they'll surely be shocked.
Arissa Wright was polite. Always. Refined, graceful, calm, there's no other word to describe her. No one would expect such a confession would come out from her mouth.
"You bloody hat! Are you insane?! My family were Ravenclaws. All of them. Why am I in Slytherin?!"
Plop.
"You know very well I hate snakes. I hate it! "
Plop.
"My father's a Gryffindor! A Gryffindor!"
Plop.
"How am I supposed to survive in Slytherin? You know nothing! I'll be devoured in just a month!"
Plop.
"You old relic! Why don't you just retire and opened up a concert or something? You have gone barmy! "
Plop.
"What if they truly did hide snakes in the Common Room? What am I supposed to do then! "
Plop.
"I was sent to a school! You sent me to a forest full of predators!"
"Elegant and unruffled, impassioned yet unmoved...That's what I am, and that's what I must be."

The Way Of The Snakes
New school year, still with the same old habit. As the first sign of sun, Cash woke up. They grabbed their running shoes, brush their teeth and jogged lightly towards the second place they feel like themselves. The morning curfew start at 6 am on the dot.
They fast walk towards the great lake and just about to start their jogged lap when someone angrily throw some pebbles into the lake. From on top of the hill where Cash stood, they could assume the blonde girl release her pented up anger. The second year sigh and start going down the hill.
When the green eyes reached near the girl, Cash catch what the girl was saying. "I was sent to a school! You sent me to a forest full of predators!. The purple hair gritted their jaw. "Oi!"The beater greet the younger girl as Cash never seen her before.
"Who do you called a predators?"Cash tried their best to control their anger. Cash hated when someone make prejudice against their house. They know some of their peers that more likely choose to be sorted in the other houses by the Sorting Hat instead the house of Serpent.
"If you think the hat wrong, you are the wrong one here"Cash put both of their hands on their hip. "And for Merlin's sake, nothing wrong for being a Slytherin"Cash stated. The girl should be grateful not cursing indirectly to the Sorting Hat.

The Way Of The Snakes
@Cassandra IronwoodsArissa flinched, causing her to nearly drop the remaining pebbles in left palm. Her head quickly turned towards the voice, which was coming from the hill? Grey eyes narrowed at said direction; where a purple head girl proceed to approach her. The girl was fairly taller than her, which was not that suprising, considering Arissa was a little shorter compared to her fellow First Years. Just a little.
'Wait. Purple?'
Why did that girl seemed so familiar? Arissa suddenly recalled her first day at Hogwarts, just after she sat down at the Slytherin Table. Didn't that girl was part of that...commotion? Or something like that. Yeah, that's correct. An upperclassmen surely.
'Why, just why did this happen?' Arissa cried inwardly. She rarely appeared unrefined, but just when she had time alone, why did an upperclassman from the house she just indirectly insulted overheard her? She truly didn't expect anyone to be here so early in the morning.
What should she do? Displaying a haughty front? But that girl was not exactly wrong, Arissa did just insulted her house. Being polite? No one would buy that. But the latter was a bit better.
She really ought to have trained herself in a confrontation caused by her own fault. Did her grandmother ever taught that? No, definitely not. She was taught to be perfect, and her behavior just now was clearly far from perfect.
Arissa sighed. There's definitely no other choice. Her lips quirked up to form a polite smile. "Forgive me for my impertinence, Miss." That's sure a good start. Arissa could tell that the girl was doing her best to...restraint her anger. So she remarked, "I do not have any problems with Slytherin house itself, but I do not approve of myself being sorted to Slytherin. I hardly felt like I can survive in the...politics of Slytherin."
Among the four houses, Arissa felt like Slytherin's social system was the hardest. While there were some Muggleborns and halfbloods in Slytherin, most of them were Purebloods, which was trained in the art of social etiquettes, and have their own social systems.
Constant glances were fine, but she didn't like the scrutinizing looks she got from the upperclassmen. It caused her to be more vigilant in her behaviors.
Perfect. Yes, she must be perfect.
She didn't want to be a Gryffindor, but that's just because she didn't consider herself as brave. Hufflepuff is fine, but Arissa still didn't think that she was suitable in there. Ravenclaw, is where she wanted to be sorted the most.
Ravenclaw seemed easy. The most brilliant will survive. But Slytherin?
She had yet to find the answer.
"Elegant and unruffled, impassioned yet unmoved...That's what I am, and that's what I must be."

At the word 'Miss', the green eyes sucked a deep breath. They surely know that mannerism from a mile. Cash was taught the same. To be the ever polite and proper Pureblood by their parents (especially their father). Cash then scrutinize their eyes towards the other girl.
The other girl said that she did not suited with Slytherin house itself. She told the second year that she did not approve herself to be sorted to Slytherin. Cash let out a mocking laugh at the girl statement. On the other hand, Cash does want to know why the girl think that.
"Why?"Cash bore their green eyes towards the other girl eyes. "The Sorting Hat never wrong,"Cash said. "Never occurred in my mind that the Sorting Hat put me in the wrong house"The purple hair told the other girl.
"Do I want to be sorted into other house? That thought crossed my mind for a brief second"They stated. "At the end I know the Hat put me in the right house'The beater concluded.
The green eyes then remembered that the girl said that she did not approved of herself being sorted to Slytherin. "If you said that you did not approved yourself being sorted to Slytherin, then in your own opinion which house do you think the best for you?"The second year inquired.
At this point they forego their plan to do their morning routine. The conversation with the other girl become much more interested than doing their morning run. They can do it some other time for that. Cash did not know why they told all of this thing to a stranger. When the other girl mention the politic of Slytherin, Cash smirked.
They definitely know what is that all about. Cash is a type of person who did not care for one bit whose toes they need to step on to achieve what they want. At the end, the end justify the meet. Whatever it take and Cash can sense the younger girl before them looking for an answer.
Hopefully Cash can help the other of what she searching for.

The Way Of The Snakes
Interacting with @Cassandra IronwoodsBy now, Arissa had discard the remaining pebbles in her hand, and had turned fully to face the purple haired girl. Her hair was fluttering in the wind, causing a strand of blonde tresses falling down her face. Arissa gently tucked the hair back, and proceed to gaze at her...companion.
"I do not approve of myself being sorted into Slytherin", she repeated. "However I do believe that I'm a perfect Ravenclaw myself." Her maternal family were consisted of Ravenclaws, while her father was a Gryffindor.
So where did the Slytherin qualities came from?
It seemed that the girl was going to stay, instead of the 'Hello, good bye' that Arissa had expected. She clicked her tongue and shook her head in disapproval. What should she do? No matter what she say, the Sorting Hat never change its decision. Grey eyes gazed at the girl's expression; scrutinizing, but not condescending. Surely a bit better than others. Some gazes she received were more...snobbish.
Don't get her wrong, Arissa knew that some Slytherins were quite kind, to say the least. But she didn't have the immunity to bear the unpleasant eyes. How did the other Slytherins such as her could stand those? Wait..
The one in front of her was an upperclassman, wasn't she? A little intimidating, but far from being downright scary.
It took a little while before Arissa made her decision. She opened her mouth and stated, "Ravenclaw was far easier. I do know that the brilliants would survive. Just as long as I do not express any kind of unusual quirks, they won't bother much. Slytherin on the hand, was unpredictable."
Yes, unpredictable. That was the proper word.
"Social standing. Brilliance. Personality. Cunningness. And that's just a fraction of it. There were many, too many things that I need to take note of to avoid myself from being placed in the bottom of the food chain within Slytherin politics. The social systems of the Slytherins were by far the hardest to understand. And if I fail, I'll be the subject of those condescending gazes. And I hate those! "
The last words were spoken with more vigour than what she previously intended. By now there was a flash of anger in her eyes.
Yes truly. She hate those. Arissa Wright was steady, in both manners and behaviors, but that doesn't mean she dislike being free. If she was being exposed to those gazes constantly, and act to please those gazes every single day, was she even human then?
Living like that, as if she was a perfect doll.
What kind of life is that?

The Way Of The Snakes
Cash internally saluted the young blonde. The way she talk speak mannerism and steadiness that sometimes the second year lack of despite they are from a Pureblood family. Not many first year could balance them out in the terms of having a conversation with the purple hair.
At one glance they made towards Cash or the other way around, they hurriedly avoid being the same path as the green eyes. Cash never think that they are that scary. A little intimidating, yes and sometimes their brash and overbearing behavior make people steered away from them.
When the girl repeated again that she does not approved herself being sorted into Slytherin, Cash tried to bite back a sarcasm. But eventually Cash needed to spoke their mind. "Why you must be so complicated when in terms evaluated yourself?"Cash then clicked their tongue.
They never met someone that so hard to his / herself before, now they do. One of Slytherin traits that their father told them long time ago was 'be the best, do not let anyone see your weakness and always put yourself first'. Their father was through and through a pure Slytherin.
The girl then said she is suited as a Ravenclaw. At this fact Cash let out a chuckle. "Funny thing that is,"Cash started. "The fact my mother was a Ravenclaw and my father was a Slytherin. The hat said I have the brilliance and smartness to become a Ravenclaw but at the end the Hat fate me into Slytherin"Cash reminisced what the Hat told them a year ago.
To be honest if Cash was sorted into Ravenclaw, they will be the odd one. Like a sore thumb among the other Ravens. Sure they have a thirst for knowledges but that just it. Cash is a person that always do first think later kind of person and they are too cunning to be a Raven.
When the girl told the purple hair that Slytherin was unpredictable, Cash let out a small chuckle. Cash could not agree more of what the girl said. Their house symbol is a snake thus it is the definition of unpredictable. The girl make a long speech about the social system and how the politics of the house of Snake works.
From what Cash gathers, the girl that stood before them think of what other opinion will think of her. She also had a worry about others condescending gazes. "Aah,"The green eyes smile this time. A genuine smile that rarely occurs. "You see that's where you're mistake are"Cash spoke with no malice tone in it.
"The thing about being a Slytherin, you need to have a thick skin"They told the girl. "Beside that, do not listen to what other said to you. Slytherins are notorious for their cold, mean, and heartless mockery towards you"Cash continued.
"Even when you think that said person is your best friend, they could go against you if they decided they had enough with you"The second year took a deep breath. "We are a snake. We adapt. We bend the rules then we strive because we are become stronger than before"Cash stated.
"As long as you ignore them, they will mind their own business. Do not show your weakness towards other. They are preying on weakness"The beater concluded. For the last statement that Cash had given to the new girl, they learn it the hard way of what a Slytherin capable to do to one another.

The Way Of The Snakes
@Cassandra IronwoodsArissa was stunned, to say the least. For once in her life at Hogwarts, she was lost for words. Her grey eyes widened and her back stiffened, quite unlike the confident posture that she procured a while ago. It was as if the truth just being shoved directly into her face, despite the fact that the older girl said it without any malice in her words. In fact, a genuine smile crossed her face, as she stated one by one how a Slytherin lives.
A Slytherin must have thick skin. A Slytherin must adapt. Yes. But, did she adapt?
Even without batting her eyes, Arissa knows. She didn't adapt. She merely conjured a false persona in front of others. A mere facade. That's why she broke easily.
But mother said I must be perfect. I must not show any weakness.
That's what her mother said, but it didn't help her much. She still received those constant glances. Mother was brilliant, so she can't be wrong. The only option left is...
"Did I misinterpret mother's words?" She mumbled. Her body was shaking, disbelief filled her whole being. "No, mother said I must be perfect. And I know that I am perfect. I didn't show any weakness."
Her manners, her behaviors, her performances in classes, she definitely excels in all of that. A perfect lady. That's what she is. That's what she's trying to become. And that's what cause her to fall in despair.
What kind of perfection did her mother hoped for?
'I guess I need to...gather my thoughts first huh.'
She turned to the purple haired girl once more as she spoke, "I appreciate your guidance. I'll reflect my behaviors and thoughts once more and took note of your words just now. However, I need some time to process it."
Yes, time. She need time to figure everything out. To rethink her value, whatever that is. Then when she finally finished with it, she'll come back stronger than before.
And she can finally face those glances with complete indifference.
"Elegant and unruffled, impassioned yet unmoved...That's what I am, and that's what I must be."
