Carefully letting go of the fabric of his pants, Nico was afraid she would've ripped it, seeing how tight his suit looked. The outlining of his form was pretty visible. Setting a small step back, giving the half-giant some space, Nico used one of her hands to put her fancy tied up hair back in place.

As she was busy doing so, Quinn had made himself more approachable by bending down on one knee. Slightly surprised, the dhampir watched as her small hand, especially in his shovels of hands, got carried, gently towards his freckled face. He smiled warmly at her. It made her feel embarassed yet safe. If she thought that was embarassing, she had no idea what was coming next. As he kept his eyes locked on her, his lips tenderly touched the back of her ice cold hand. It felt like summer entered her body. as if he was the sun that came to melt her snow away. Why did this feeling feel so intense? It felt weird. As if she could almost pass out. Just now, she finally realised he had a nicely shaven bear,d making him look somewhat older than he actually was. Her face turned completley red. Thankfully her white foundation covered most of it. However, it was intense enough to be clearly noticed. It got even worse when Breana walked up to them.

Quinn had turned beetred, standing up as the redhead pulled her hand into her neck. Gently letting her fingers wrap around her neck. It made her feel secure. No, she wasn't out to hurt herself. Just this, her hands covering her neck, felt safe.

Clearing her throat, hoping the redness would subside soon, Nico carefully turned towads Breana. Her newfound friend she had to get to know recently. 'H-Hi, Breana. Your outfit looks really nice. I can still remember the dress you wore at the other ball. It was pretty too but... yes. Quite uncomfortable to move in.' Why did she have to mention that dreadfull event again? And even Breanas dress. Internally facepalming herself, the redhead smiled warmly at the Ravenclaw. 'Please. You're more than welcome to accompany us. How have you been?' Her smile was soft, her eyes indicated that Breana knew what she was referring to. Their conversation had made the both of them feel connected... Turning to Quinn she nodded as he proposed to let Rosie join in. Nico was vaguely aware that she and Quinn used to be a couple, but... the dhampir didn't like the idea of a girl being all by herself. Especially at such an event like this. 'Sure... Let's have her accompany us aswell.'

Alexander came in late, having had to take more time than predicted getting his outfit in good order and putting on the the dueling brooch on his outfit, as well as last minute finding a mask. He had to do jump some hoops and written some letters but he had managed to rent a good outfit combined with the generic Guy Fawkes mask. He admitted it didn't look too bad, certainly it at least had a layer of irony. Wearing a mask as it was, as these days he was most often wearing a mask when not with Aida, and even then when he was not alone with her.... then occasionally he did wear a mask.

But he did admit, that wearing the Guy Fawkes mask did have a certain benefit in helping to conceal his features. Meant that he could perhaps get noticed less, and that fewer students would understand who he was. Rather than some of the 'masks' the people here were wearing. Which barely concealed anything at all, one would have to be daft to have the mask be an obstacle in recognizing a person. Though he supposed that it had always been so, giving the illusion of a mask, when really all people there knew who the other was. Really it was a social farce, but an enjoyable one. And really, who did not enjoy attending one of the infamous Hogwarts brawls balls.

He then looked around, trying to see if he could see his albino friend. But not seeing her he saw a few other people he recognized. Foremost amongst them Ileen but also a few other Slytherins he saw occasionally. But not his friend. He looked around, wondering if perhaps she was hiding under the recently acquired cloak he had helped towards obtaining.

Ana's heart was racing when Flash dipped her. While it was a movement that she was more than comfortable doing and had been for years, staring into Flash's eyes made the familiar movement feel completely new. She was exhilarated and her eyes were sparkling. Forget falling, she had fallen.

"I could say the same, Flash" she said, a bit more breathlessly than she would have liked. She was more than a little worn out, and the way that Flash was looking at her definitely wasn't making her heart or breathing slow a bit. "And absolutely." A drink sounded amazing right then, seeing as she was planning on dancing quite a bit more than that. Her hand stayed in his as the pair wove through the crowd. The room was full, so she was glad for his hand for other reasons than she simply enjoyed holding his hand.

A pair caught her eye and her mood darkened slightly. She desperately wanted to throat punch Rose and Eyre evoked similar although slightly more complex emotions. She could have just left them alone and gone about her night. It would have been the kind and sane thing to do.

So of course she didn't.

As she passed dancers, she stuck out a graceful foot, hooked it around one of Rose's, and pulled, sending the ginger tumbling. This was a maneuver that she had perfected over the years to look like a complete accident on her part while making certain to take down her target. She stopped suddenly as the other girl fell, the picture of innocent shock. Her hand slipped from Flash's, and she cursed mentally. This wasn't what she had exactly intended. "Oh my goodness, Rose, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, her voice sickly sweet, delicately lifting a pale hand to her collarbone as if clutching at imaginary pearls. "I forget those of us with less experience in events like this with cutlure are quite clumsy. Are you all right?" Anyone who didn't know any better would have fallen for the act hook, line, and sinker. The brunette was an excellent actress when she tried and right now, she was giving the performance of a lifetime. There were maybe three people on the planet who knew Ana well enough to see through her fantastic act.

One of those people being Eyre Reeves. He had seen her do that literally hundreds of times over the years. Hell, he had been her partner at many of the balls where she had done it. He hadn't exactly been fond of the habit then, and somehow Ana doubted that he would be any more supportive of it when her target was his rachet little girlfriend. Even if he hadn't seen the maneuver and heard her laugh and brag about it, he knew her well enough to know that she never said "oh my goodness" except for when she was doing something less than kind and playing innocent. Same thing with clutching the imaginary pearls. "I really am ever so sorry, I always forget how clumsy redheads are," Ana said, her tone truly sounding apologetic and matching her anguished expression. "Then again, some people manage to constantly set low expectations and fail to achieve them." Her tone definitely didn't match her words and she furrowed her brow to look even more remorseful. She gave Rose another glance as if checking to see if she was alright, then shot Eyre a quick, smug wink. If there was any doubt in the boy's mind as to whether or not that entire scene had been deliberate, it was certainly gone now.

Giving Rose one more pitying glance, she turned dramatically, her hair and gown spinning as though she was a princess as she went to find her date again. She found him getting a drink, right where he had been heading. She smiled at him as she poured her own drink and began to sip it demurely."I apologize for that," she said, her tone genuine now compared to the way she had spoken to the people she legitimately owed an apology. "My skirt managed to get caught in a girl's shoes and I had to make sure she was alright." It wasn't a complete lie, but it was far from the truth. While she hadn't fully consciously opted to trip Rose, it definitely wasn't an accident. "This all really is amazing, Flash," she said, gesturing towards the general party. Flash definitely knew what he was doing and she almost felt guilty for risking causing a hiccup because she was feeling petty. Almost.

She glanced around the ballroom, rather in awe of how smoothly everything was going. She had watched her mother plan and host enough events that she knew this was no small feat. She caught a glimpse of Rafa making out with a boy she didn't recognize and made a mental note to interrogate her best friend about that at the first opportunity. She caught sight of Amara dancing with a Slytherin boy that she vaguely recognized but couldn't put a name to.

Lydia smiled softly at the boy, shaking her head. "I do not; you're actually the first American student I've met so far! I do have a friend that goes to Durmstrang though, and my cousins go to Beauxbatons, even though they're not here now,"

As they moved around the dancefloor, Lydia tried her best not to trip over the boy's feet, while she let her eyes wander around a little bit. The ballroom was starting to fill up, an endless sea of masks and fancy dresses forming everywhere; some of those ballgowns looked incredible, and one in particular got stuck in Lydia's mind: she only saw it briefly, but it appeared to be made out of leaves, or at least she thought so. She made a mental note to try and see if she could find and tell the owner of that dress that it looked incredible, before she concentrated back on her dance partner.

Her eyes met his, making her slightly blush; she wasn't used to be that close to boys, or to look at them in the eyes like that; the other time something like that happened was during the last Summer Camp when-

Lydia immediately stopped that train of thoughts, blocking them before they could ruin her mood; unable to hold the boy's gaze she looked away, as she tried to concentrate back on the music and the dancing. She didn't manage to do that though, because the boy's next words immediately stole her attention.

Usually a comment like that would have made her feel good, knowing that people in general liked her had never been a problem before; however since she had learned about her veela-side, and because of how things were right now with some of her friends... The poor, clueless boy had said one of the last things Lydia wanted to hear that night; subconsciously that was probably also one of the reasons why she didn't wear a big fancy dress, this way the attention wouldn't have been on her.

A small frown appeared on her face, although it was hidden from sight by her rabbit mask; the boy's comment was a confirmation of how much her good looks- or rather, her veela side- affected people more than her personality; that must have been the reason why she wasn't able to keep friends in the long distance, why people seemed to stop caring, or be less interested in her after some time apart: they weren't under the influence of her "charm" anymore, no more under her "spell".

The only exception to that, was Aaron.

Her best friend was still by her side, even after they had spent the summer apart. Everyone else, Ariana, Alexander, even Rafael-

No. Stop that.
Lydia thought, trying to get a hold on her thoughts once again. She could not allow herself to think those things that night, to think about him; they had both done their choices, they were friends now. "Collect yourself and move on." was what her Grandma would have said. And Lydia was trying to do that, but it was not that easy.

Oh come on, it's not like you're in lo-

Shaking her head lightly, Lydia forced herself to get out of her head and concentrate on her dance partner, before giving him an apologetic smile. "I'm incredibly sorry, I got lost in my head!" she apologised and then nodded."Yeah, I have a younger sister! She will be coming to Hogwarts in about three years, unless she decides to go to Beauxbatons instead," she let out a small chuckle, "What about you? Are you the oldest of your siblings? Or maybe the youngest?"

Hans Franssen didn’t dance.

That actually wasn’t a true statement – what he should say, is that he rather disliked the art of dancing. His parents, after all, being the esteemed purebloods they were, would have been loathe to let their only son leave the house without such a precious skill. Hanzo, unbeknownst to many, was actually quite the lovely dancer, especially in the ballroom setting – this, however, did not insinuate a passion for the art in the least. There was something… purely wrong about the feeling of dancing with another that simply repelled the young man, as if it was sinful to share such a moment with anyone he knew or even claimed he ‘loved’. The ex-Captain had always been wary of females in a romantic way, and if his petty discomfort had been bad before, his wariness for the other sex had only multiplied over the summer – after spending his trip to England with the beautiful and kind-hearted Miss Amara Dragomior, he had found his heart dashed into a million small pieces and his mentality bruised with a fervor that would leave him cautious for months, maybe even years to come. What had he done wrong? Had he been a bad boyfriend? Given that it had been the child’s first expenditure in the relationships’ arena, it was quite difficult to discern the true reason for their breakup.

Oh, blast, he reasoned as he briskly walked, it wasn’t a thought he should deign to lose any more sleep over. He was, after all, much stronger than he typically led on. [God forbid he chose to describe his personality under stress. The results of one such breakdown had led to his exile from the Durmstrang Quidditch Team. It didn’t matter too much, he supposed idly – he would make a brilliant duelist. Franssens, after all, never relented.] Emotional turmoil aside, he would resign himself to a feeling of subtle excitement, his gaze soft yet filled with anxious curiosity as he cheerfully trod forward in the direction of the Masquerade Ball. He had orchestrated quite the noble surprise for Romeo – his costume, that was, resembled the early Harry Potter himself, from the Gryffindor robes to the round-rimmed glasses set gently on his nose. A bit of an old joke, mind him. The Gryffindor robes were beginning to become a nuisance to the young man, he idly noticed with a frown, the materials brushing his neat shoes and causing him to stumble about, not unlike a peasant in a ball gown. Never mind that – he had taken great care in the making of his masquerade mask, the firm black plastic carrying around the eyes a round rim, much like the glasses of the late hero. Masks were encouraged, who was he to digress? He had taken care to make the lightning bolt on his forehead look realistic, as well – only he who looked very, very closely would be able to call it otherwise. He hadn’t bothered in changing his hair, however, leaving the tufts upon his head the choppy gold it always was. T’was fine, he hadn’t learnt that spell yet. Besides, it wasn’t like he was trying that hard. He was only thirteen years old – a child only longed for fun, did he not?

Briskly entering the doors of the Ballroom, the boy looked around, his eyes searching for his schoolmate as he kept a steady, confident pace. It wouldn’t be long until he found the ex-keeper, too – Romeo was loitering nearby the entrance, his costume resembling that of a… three-faced beast? The underclassmen was a funny character himself, the ex-Captain couldn’t help but note, his humor one of the admirable traits Hanzo honored. Mischief boiled within the Norwegian’s stomach a goofy grin spreading like infection across his face. Perhaps he should make himself welcome, then. The boy could do nothing to notice the strangely identical being speaking with his friend, instead the gears in his mind turning faster than he cared to admit – the boy would quickly approach from the behind of his friend, before both hands shortly clamped down on the other’s shoulders. The Potter-knockoff wouldn’t stop there, though – his grip firm, he would launch himself onto the back of the taller, his legs swinging outwards as he tried not to fall off. “Oh no!” he joked with a laugh, his Norwegian accent messy as he spoke in clean English. Yes, he had been practicing. “Harry Potter, the damned murderer, he’s got you, Romeo! What’re going to do about that?” The voice would be immediately evident to the other, surely, the Norwegian’s uniquely soft tones being one of his most defining traits. What was Romeo going to do, then? Had he successfully startled his friend?

Miranda gazed around in awe at the ballroom. It was creepy, but in a beautiful way. The lighting was good, but cast by flickering flames that left strange shadows to creep up the walls and form nightmarish shapes whenever one let their imagination wander too much. Miranda did her best to ignore them.

People flowed around her and Henry, but the masks and the light made it hard to distinguish individuals, especially since the majority of her focus was on the ghosts that mingled among the living. Most seemed right at home, dressed in elegant suits or robes, dancing to an unheard tune. However, a few were considerably odder, like the ghostly feline that seemed to be delighting in attacking decorations, though it did no good.

In fact, she was so absorbed in the decor that Henry had to repeat his words for her to finally hear him. "Er, dance?" Miranda glanced around a final time, then back to him. It took her a moment for the words to truly sink in, but once they did she smiled, albeit a bit nervously. Her meager dancing skills were quite rusty, after quitting her lessons as soon as her grand-parents weren't there to enforce them. And her parents had never bothered to continue the practice once they'd severed their ties with the rest of their family. "Sure...that is, if you're alright with it. And I warn you...I'm not the best dancer." Miranda might as well tell him already, so he wouldn't be surprised when they really did start dancing.

Sylvie fingered the ring she'd been sent as a part of her costume as she ad Kaegan entered the Ballroom, where the more formal "masquerade" was being held. Really, she didn't see what was so much better about it over a costume party. What was the fun of being all proper and formal when you could have fun? And better than that, eat candy? Really, there was no comparison. Not that Sylvie said anything out loud, but she was thinking it pretty hard, so that ought to count for something.

But no, apparently costume parties weren't good enough for her date...she'd have to have a discussion with him on that later. But not now. Now was the time for fun!

Upon entering the Ballroom, Sylvie's first thought was that the decorations were decidedly creepier. Sure, the Costume party had been Halloween themed as well, but in a more entertaining and children-friendly way. The Masquerade was simply...fancy.

She glanced over at Kaegan, for once at loss of words to say. He probably had a much better idea than she did of what to do...if it had been Sylvie's choice, she would've gone and bothered some of the ghosts that dotted the masked students in the crowd.

To most people, the dark-haired boy came off as, well hostile, or at the very least stiff and formal. At first, that had been Sylvie's view as well. But she'd caught sight of him quite a few times since her arrival at Hogwarts, and what she'd seen had changed her mind. Sylvie now knew that under his harsh exterior personality was something kinder - something she was determined to drag out during their evening together.

"So what now?"
she asked, trying to prompt a conversation, her cheerful smile already in place.

It would appear that the table of drinks and snacks was getting a little crowded, which was typical for people at a dance, especially if they had been dancing. Santario’s Silvered eyes looked over everyone before getting up from her seat and gently moving through people again. Trying to be somewhat seamless but at the same time not caring if someone were to stop her. It was then; however, she thought she saw a blonde she recognized. She could be entirely wrong, and if she was, there would be no harm in passing off a compliment on one’s attire. But the girl was done up fancy like the last event, and in another pink dress, black tulle overlay or not. She was almost sure she was correct.

Before passing her, Santario would stop and offer Marion Davenport a smile, allowing her French accent to be much thicker than usual. “Your dress is stunning.” Santario would try to pass it off as a comment from someone just making their way through the ballroom. She had no issue with Marion and genuinely felt bad for the loss of her friend, but in the end, the girls weren’t friends, and Marion was aligned with an enemy; pity really.

Santario would continue past Marion, thanking her in return if the girl in pink complimented her back. She would continue to make her way through the throng of people, not necessarily having a destination in mind, just wandering, that was until a very familiar-looking suit or well parts of a suit caught her eyes. Santario would make her way towards the entrance where she saw the suit, and as she got closer, there was no doubt in her mind as to the boy behind the mask. Her now silvered eyes would seek out his icy blues, and if she managed to catch them, she would silently mouth a word. A word that would shatter any doubt about exactly who she was underneath the mask, makeup, and contacts. Whether she caught his eye or not, she would move on, making her way down the other side of the ballroom.

She would, at this point, make her way over to Quinn Healy and crew. “Good evening, everyone. You all look wonderful!” While Santario looked quite a bit different with silver contacts and makeup that she would never usually wear, her silvery voice would be unmistakable to those that had met her before.

Alexander watched as Katherine paused, eyes soft as he appraised her. He couldn't truly bring himself to care what she was thinking—perhaps running through her mental address book as he had, searching for the Baron name. The only reason someone asked directly for a family name was to do that. She obviously lacked the art of subtlety.

He wasn't sure if she'd drawn a blank or not. Maybe not, but again, it didn't matter to him what she thought of his family. What could she do?

At her words, Alexander offered her a final, parting smile. "Same to you, Miss Labrouder. You were wonderful," he replied. Wonderful indeed. Wonderful entertainment.

Turning away as she departed, the Durmstrang boy cradled his drink in graceful hands, weaving back through the crowd. Loitering near the drink table might have been a fine way to meet his next partner, but it was utterly untasteful.

Alexander adjusted his mask over his eyes, scanning the sea of people. He enjoyed masquerades—they always came with a mystery that he relished, adding another layer to every puzzle, every challenge that approached him. It was a good test of his skill; how fast could he feel someone out without knowledge of their name, their face, the way their brow furrowed or eyes twinkled in reaction to his words. Students were always a good warmup.

He suppressed a sigh, lifting the drink to his lips. It simply wasn't his style to approach first—for as long as he'd known, people had always come of their own accord anyway. He need not do more than smile and look pretty, posture clean but lax enough to seem welcoming. Patience. His next project would appear soon enough.

Ethen was getting somewhat distracted with each passing moment as he watched the bustle of the ballroom. He would continue to try and pick out anyone who might be his date to little avail only making him more nervous with each passing moment. When he was suddenly tapped on the shoulder, Ethen nearly lept from his skin but the easily recognizable voice reeled him back in.

Whirling around to find a lace black fox mask peering at him, a smile immediately flashed across his face. Her white dress looked perfect on her and he wasn't use to seeing the girl so put together. Generally, they were more covered in dirt than fine clothes and makeup. That said, the girl looked undeniably beautiful and Ethen found himself standing stupidly and silently for far too long as he stared wide-eyed at the girl. “You look...you are, you look are beautiful tonight,” he finally managed to say. He knew he jumbled the words but he didn’t care. His nerves were quickly fading into a simple excitement of being with her.

Then he remembered that she had asked if Ethen would share a dance with her. The music in the ballroom was dramatic to say the least and he wasn’t sure how to dance but he no longer cared. He just wanted to have fun with his best friend, even if it meant having no idea what he was doing. “Dance? Why yes of course my lady fox. I would be, how they say, honored!” Ethen said with a small laugh and short mocking bow.

As he rose, he snatched Atlas’ hand to move to the dance floor. Pulling the girl with him, he halted maintaining a poised and dramatic visage. Stepping closer and pacing one hand on Atlas’ hip suddenly, Ethen then stretched out his hand as far as he could. He had seen a movie with some ballroom dancing as a kid and was doing his best to imitate the dramatic movements but he knew it likely looked absurd. “My dear Atlas,” Ethen said meeting her eyes. “I have no idea what I am doing.”

With that, Ethen began moving and leading Atlas into a dramatic replication of ballroom dancing. He focused on each calculated step as the music filled his ears and tried to imagine that he actually knew what he was doing.

To say he wasn't a bit on edge would be a lie. Percival felt like a guitar string tightened far too much. One more twist of the tuning keys and he would snap in half. The last time he had been at a ball things had turned out rather badly. To top things all off Opeila had been acting somewhat weird lately. There was nothing too noticeable just a slight distance that seemed to develop between the two. Percival didn't know what problem had spurred her to act that way, but it was entirely possible he had just ignored it. Like many of his problems. The boy fussed over her his far longer than any of his dormmates. Resulting in him being the last one to leave the bathroom. For some reason, he felt like tonight had to go perfectly. An underlying dread and nervousness accompanied his jerky movements as he got his wavy hair to behave.

Percival brought his hands down after he finished fiddling with his hair. Gripping the porcelain sides of the sink hard enough that his knuckles turned white. He didn't know why his gut twisted up like he had gotten punched in the stomach. Percival narrowed his eyes at his reflection staring into his eyes. Things had to go smoothly, they just had to. Percival cleared his throat before picking up the porcelain mask that he had picked out for the Masquerade Ball. Slipping on the mask calmed him down for some reason. The majority of his face was covered by the mask, and it gave him a feeling of anonymity. Percival took a step back away from the mirror giving himself a once over. With a small nod, the boy turned and exited the bathroom into the dorm room.

He was almost ready to leave to go down to the Common Room. The boy knew he would need to hurry so that Opeila would not have to wait for him. He had already wasted too much time getting ready. Hopefully, fate would be on his side and Opeila would be late as well. Percival stood in the middle of the dorm as he debated on what he should do. He knew he really should leave now, but his gaze swung over to where his trunk lay at the foot of his bed. Percival's hand felt slightly tingly, and he knew which object he wanted to wrap his hand around. Almost in a daze, the boy walked over and opened the trunk. He knew exactly where the hidden knife lay, and a part of him ached to grab it. Like a child who wanted their safety blanket to fend off the monsters under their bed.

Percival's right hand twitched slightly, but he made no move to grab it. Bringing the knife would be a stupid idea on his part. If it somehow got lost, Selim would have his head on a silver platter. So instead, the boy grabbed his wand and wand holster. Percival reclosed his trunk before standing up and making his way out of the dorm room. The boy walked quickly down to the common room. Only beating Opeila down by a minute or two. The two made down to the Ballroom in complete silence. The distance between them made it feel like they were oceans apart. Percival couldn't bring himself to break the silence. Instead, he furrowed his brows as his mouth pressed into a straight line.

As they entered the ballroom, he was surprised to see Opeila just stop at the entrance to the Ball. Percival's brows furrowed together as he studied her for a second. It was then that he realized she looked a bit shook up. Maybe she was as anxious as he was. There hadn't been a ball since the spectacular fail of Blossom Ball. The memories of that night soured his tongue. Percival cleared his throat slightly offering his right arm out to Opeila. May I have this dance? he asked falling back on the etiquette that was drilled into him as a child. Percival hoped she would agree, it wasn't like they could stand in front of the entrance for the entire night. The boy's brows furrowed slightly underneath his mask as he waited for her answer.
