Howard was so relieved to have Falentra at his side this evening. Not only because he cared for her, but also he had a partner in crime to do a little rule breaking with. He had been to many of these school functions before and they were always such a drag. These social events were always so awkward and he usually just found himself alone or having to BS his way through conversations he really didn’t want to be having. Not tonight though. Right away the pair would begin with their usual humor that most might find off putting. Howard would laugh with her as they mocked the entire thing with their introductions to each other. It had been so long since he had genuinely enjoyed himself in someone’s presence and not even the annoyance of the scene surrounding them could ruin his good mood.
Howard’s smile of amusement would turn sheepish as Falentra quickly set to his hair and helped him to smooth the wild strands that he had missed. Not that anyone would believe him, but he had done his best to tame it. Well...the truth was he had tried for a few minutes before chucking the comb across the room and cursing the gods for inventing stupid things like Balls. “But of course I did darling...” Howard said in a fake posh accent. “It’s All Hallows’ Eve after all.” They were quick to share their humor together, but just as just a quick to let it subside. He had no problem being goofy with her, but like Falentra he wasn’t a big fan of doing so in public.
“No, not yet.” He answered her question about the whiskey in a quiet tone. Howard would shift to put his back to the crowd as she carefully scanned for staff or random do-gooders. Merlin knows that Hogwarts was full of them. “Keep a look out out.” He urged before reaching into his pocket a withdrawing the small potion bottle he used to sneak in the booze. After quickly popping the topper, Howard equally divided the fire whiskey between their glasses. It wasn’t nearly enough to get them drunk, maybe catch a quick buzz, but it would certainly help take the edge off and relax a bit in an environment that made them both uncomfortable.
After the drinks were prepared, Howard moved back to her side and against the wall. He took a long drink from his glass and let out a long exhale as the liquor stung his throat. “Yeah...that’s well nice, eh?” He asked as his eyes fell to the dance floor. The sight brought back a worrying thought that he was having trouble shaking. He had asked Falentra to a Ball and that meant partaking in the worst human invention of all time...dancing. Howard’s eyes would flick back and forth as he wondered her thoughts on the subject. “So...um...should we dance or whatever?” His facial expression was a bit of a mixed bag. As much as he didn’t like dancing, there was a part of him that would do so if it was something she wanted. “I’m not sure if I know how though.
The Fall Ball (Masquerade)

While not quite as much of a nervous mess as he had been during his little ambush. Ethen could feel his heart pounding through the entirety of getting ready. Trying to look nice had never been something he actively did and for once he actually had reason to look, at least, a bit less disheveled. With his parents in Africa, it had actually been the parents of Atlas to supply him with a suit and his matching mask for the ball but his little package had also held a message. Ethen had known the Reids for most of his life but it was still somewhat nerve-wracking to receive a letter and clothes from her parents.
The letter had made it clear that Atlas' auror father would be happy to chase him down if he ruined the night for his daughter. The thought was slightly terrifying but Ethen had no intention of doing anything to the contrary. He felt strange pulling on the dark suit and dress pants, having generally little need for such fine clothing. He actually had only dressed up once before for the prior year's ball but it still felt foreign to him. Along with the suit and shoes, Atlas' family had supplied a wolf-like silver mask to presumably match Atlas. He wasn't sure what she was wearing but he was pretty confident it would be something incredible.
After getting ready, Ethen had a quick snack to calm his nerves before starting off towards the ballroom. He hadn't spent any time there previously and under normal circumstances, the room seemed like the perfect area for him to cause mischief but he didn't want to cause too much damage to anything for the night.
Every time he thought of Atlas coming as his date, instead of as a friend, a stupid smile forced its way to his face. Despite the nerves, a growing anticipation and excitement was beginning to mount for the evening. That is, until he began to over think things.
Was I supposed to bring her something?... What if she wants to dance?...What if I am smelly and cause her to pass out?... The thoughts continued to swirl through his mind as he wandered towards the ballroom. With masks on he wondered if he would even be able to find the girl. The possibilities for failure seemed endless but Ethen forced the thoughts out of his head to just focus on relaxing and having a good time with the girl he had feelings for.
Arriving to the entrance to the ballroom, Ethen and Atlas had decided they would meet inside. So, not seeing her outside the room, Ethen wandered nervously inside. The decorum was beautiful and he even spotted snacks for later but it was everyone's fine clothes and masks that took Ethen's focus. It was incredible to see all of the outfits of his classmates. Even if he didn't recognize a single person behind their masks, he found himself staring. Scanning around for anyone who might be Atlas, Ethen doubted the girl would have beaten him down there.
Instead, he took a moment to watch those study those couples already out on the dance floor. With each moment that passed, Ethen could feel his heart quickening as his eyes darted about in search of his date.

This was it.
Atlas had been waiting impatiently for weeks for this day to come and as the sun dipped down a violent storm raged outside as it pounded against the windows. Rain was Atlas' favorite weather so she took it as a sign of luck hoping the night would transform she and Ethen's friendship into a relationship.
Her roommates had decided last minute to cut her hair assuring her that a fresh look was all she needed to blow her date away. Much like Ethen, Atlas had never been one to doll herself up but her parents were overly excited to help her out as they agreed to send her a brand new dress, shoes and mask for her magical evening. They had even suggested sending Ethen things to wear knowing his parents wouldn't be able to get him anything in time as they were in Africa.
Gently pulling on the dress, Atlas was relieved her new cut looked good and the makeup they applied almost made her unrecognizable in the mirror. She had never been on a date before or had a boyfriend but she was reassured that Ethen would be equally as nervous. For the last week or so she had been walking around her room in the heels her parents sent trying to get accustomed to the feeling and she had finally gotten to the point where her ankles weren't wobbling under her.
"Don't you dare fail me tonight..." She scolded looking down at her feet as she did one more check in the mirror a stupid grin donning her face as one of the girls helped tie her mask behind her head.
With each step up to the third floor the only thing Atlas could hear was her pounding heart as she tried to control her breathing. What if he doesn't like all the makeup...what if he says I look weird in a dress...Wait. He's seen you in a dress and he didn't hate it then so yeah totally fine, he's gonna love it. Maybe.
Drawing closer to the ball, Atlas could hear music and mumbled talking as she made her way to the entrance, tons of her peers already fully enveloped in the magic of the evening. Her father had included a horrible pun in the letter saying "Have a wolfsome night!" Seeing as her mask was a lace fox she presumed that they had sent Ethen a wolf mask but in a sea of students it would take her a minute to track down her special wolf.
Gulping, Atlas lifted her head up from staring at the ground as she slowly moved around, her eyes darting around until she spotted a build similar to Ethen's with a full face wolf mask. Quickly slipping out of his view and behind him, Atlas moved forward stopping abruptly as she felt like her feet were glued to the floor.
"Don't you dare. You are fearless and ferocious. You are a fox? Yeah...a fox." she mumbled closing her eyes for a moment as she felt her feet unstick as she pressed closer to Ethen til she was right behind him.
"May I have this dance?" She said softly as she tapped his shoulder a little surprised at the sudden confidence her mind decided to lend her.

We all know it is coming. School events at Hogwarts are a favoured setting for undesirable hostile forces. Almost too easy tonight, to intrude at a party where concealing one’s identity is the expectation. Thomas Lestrange was running from the inevitable, failing to report to his lake dwelling coven this year. Like an absence at a court date, only so much time would pass before someone showed up at your door, and they need not ask to come in. Was tonight the night?Mentions: @Erin Ryan @Maria Dee
Not to say the boy has not prepared a precautionary plan to execute. Subject to many sleepless nights preceding this evening. Succumbing to the weight of new responsibilities, as a house representative and writer for the school paper. The boy had a reputation to form, a process that would require consistent backpedaling to mend the public’s view.
Thomas sported an all-black suit, recycling the outfit from the Blossom Ball earlier this year. He did not have the funds past the acquisition of his leather mask that added rare color to his darkened aesthetic, with designs of gold and white tint. Yes, the sole source of income coming from a single mother in the vastly underappreciated field of education was not a fruitful one.
His real acquisition for the evening did not have a price tag. Much like Selim before her, she served a purpose she was not aware of. Maria Dee, the token Hufflepuff that was paired with Thomas during an organized fight club was expected to join him this evening. Her value this evening was paramount if the cards fell the way he expected.
There was a divine presence lurking overhead the pair of Erin Ryan and Thomas Lestrange. A presence that has circled a special place in hell for the pairing, judged by the intertwined paths. The rage that spurred human bowling balls and whiskey fires has all but subsided...for her. The now blonde part veela embarrassed the boy in public fashion last time, ending things with an involuntary dance. Tonight was not the night the boy intended to get even, but if the opportunity arose to do so, he just may take it.

Owl for Interactions!Alexander's pearly whites were certainly earning their keep today. The Durmstrang boy kept his steps fluid and swirling around the music, careful of Katherine in his arms. It wouldn't do to injury the girl. After all, she was a pretty chess piece in this match he was playing. And god, he was enjoying playing it.
Interacting with @Katherine Labrouder
He smiled wider at her response to his perfectionist question. Good. It was nice to know that she didn't value half-assing things at the very least. Her next words to music to Alexander's ears as he pulled her closer, guiding her out of the way of another passing dancer.
Didn't do gossip, hmm? Ah, she was finally on the defense. He couldn't help the bloom of pride that he'd managed to ruffle her feathers even while remaining civil and polite.
"I do apologize if I offended you, Katherine. I never meant to assume," Alexander amended, voice soft and liting, "I appreciate that you had no ill will. It's rare to find someone such as yourself these days." Was that a good or bad thing? Who knew.
Alexander listened with one ear tuned in to her, the other following the path of the music. It was starting to wind down and he followed its lead, guiding them closer to the edge for when the break finally happened.
Similar to her? He took a moment to look Katherine full in the face, eyes tracing brown hair and a slim waist. Perhaps. Perhaps. If one squinted hard enough.
He lost some of her words as they glided past another couple, tuning back in when he found her staring at him. Alexander cocked his head lightly to the side, smile turning gentle. Oh. Self-deprecation. What a tiresome tactic.
"Please don't think that, Miss Labrouder. I assure you, I'll remember you for many months to come." Of course he would. He remembered anyone and everyone he talked too. It did well to remember names to faces. Besides, they all had such annoying mannerisms, it was hard to forget.
Alexander tracked her facial features, noticing her rather deep breath. Hmm. That was odd. It was getting harder to decode her tirades, but he was patient, hand on her waist as the music slowed to a swaying pace.
"Ha, well I can almost guarentee that I'm not as put together as you think," he replied. Ah, lying sometimes felt so good on the tongue, "but thank you nonetheless. You're quite kind." A safe place? Trust? Yes, certainly. Anyone could be trusted if you kept them in the dark just enough.
Alexander merely smiled at her teasing comment, watching her turn away for a laugh. He was glad she was enjoy this. That meant he'd put on an excellent performance. The music slowed nearly to a stop, enough time for the Durmstrang boy to guide them off the floor. He could dance for hours, yes, but there was something to say about the monotony of it all. Better to change the scene now and again.
"Katherine," he smiled, turning to her, "Care for a drink?"

She began walking towards the Slytherin boy.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
Interacting with: @Elias Weare, @Callie Jensen, @Thomas Baines
The thought of a girl who’d been socially isolated for the 11 years preceding her arrival at Hogwarts attending such a large social gathering came across as comical. To Valerie herself, at least. But, in spite of that, she'd made an appearance, stepping in through the doors leading into the ballroom, an arm hooked through Elias'. In the month succeeding the ‘stone mishap’, as she’d referred to it in the numerous discussions she’d had with the perpetrator, Elias and Valerie had become good acquaintances. Though a notorious grudge-holder, Valerie could, for the most part, choose her battles. Continuing to be outwardly spiteful towards the Ravenclaw boy for an accident that hadn’t affected her life long-term was a poor waste of energy - energy that could be spent handling other matters. The unpleasant bruise on her shoulder had healed over time and, ah, as the saying goes, revenge is a dish best served cold. The opportunity for it would simply have to present itself! The young girl was overly pleased with herself for coming to a rational decision. The show of maturity only fed into her ego.
Only fragments of Elias’ proposal had been caught by Val, but that had been enough for her to formulate a proper response, “Drinks?” Did Hogwarts serve slime and eyeballs for punch at balls? Or newts on sticks as appetizers? The childish thought made Valerie raise a hand to her mouth to stifle her own giggle. “Oh, that sounds fine.” The over-eagerness would sound immature, and so Valerie kept her tone as leveled as she could, to the point of monotony. But, the thought of being able to meet others brought a feeling of relief over her. Staying by the side of one person through the duration of the ball was bound to turn it into a snooze fest. Before she was guided by Elias through the crowd, Val retracted her arm from his to readjust the top of her gown. The loose, lavender garment fell to her ankles in layers and ruffles, cut short enough to display a pair of ballet flats of the same color. Standing at 5’1”, Valerie had felt that coming in footwear that would add onto that height would only serve to make her stand out like a sore thumb.
As her and Elias approached the refreshments table, it became clear that not everybody had been blessed with her height, the shrimp of a boy that was Thomas Baines coming into view. A feminine figure, one who stood out as only vaguely familiar to Valerie with the mask obscuring her features, had been rambling to him. The Slytherin girl kept to standing at Elias' side, unspeaking for the most part.
The uncharacteristic silence from Valerie's end hadn't lasted for long, as the girl she soon identified as Callie Jensen had addressed her. The inquiries Callie had made were shot out too quickly for Val to respond to each and every one without making herself look like a blubbering fool. "Huh? Yes. I.." What had brought her to become Elias' date to the ball? "He threatened to toss another stone at my head. I'm here completely against my will, can you believe that?" Though her tone made it seem as though her response had been truthful, a subdued smile soon rose to her features. "Do you not have a date, Callie? Or did the, ah, boy there come with you?" Naturally, the boy in question was Thomas. Calling him a shrimp outright would be disrespectful.

Niche would adjust his hat one more time before pulling up the dark scarf that would obscure the lower half of his face. Satisfied he would continue his way towards the ballroom with long strides as his robes billowed behind him with every step he took towards his destination. A fine black mask would sit snugly on the bridge of his nose and over his eyes, causing only small parts of his visage to be visible. His wand was at the ready, sitting in its wand holster around his hip, attached to the belt. It would take him a second to hex anyone into oblivion if they just dared to stand in his way. This day had a purpose as had every social event, as such it was important to seek and achieve. And achieve he did, having had one of the more powerful wizards of his year to be his company for the evening. A confident smile curled at the corners of his mouth as his cold eyes were void of much emotion. As he entered the room finally he caught sight of who he would call a date for the evening. Niche had arrived and he was fashionably wait and as he had guessed the boy was waiting for him, making the corner of his lip curl further up as he approached the blonde.
He extended his hand, covered by a thin glove made of black silk, with his palm up as he gave a slight bow; meanwhile he was not averting his gaze from the boy. "May I have this dance, Kheanu," he allowed himself to say in his thick Swedish accent as he straightened up his posture giving the other boy a charming but cool smile. He had a fairly good memory of this boy and had good reason to ask him to be his date for this ball. After all the two of them were on the more... capable side of their school and being seen together would do good for both their image and reputation. But Nichlas was not that shallow, this had been for more reason. Whatever the reason, it was not apparent in the way he behaved but it would hardly matter. He was a charming and handful man so there would be no loss on Kheanu's side. A thing the boy knew was that he would have Kheanu as an ally rather than an opponent and considering that he had knocked the other boy over, he could be sure the feeling was mutual. They both knew of each others capabilities and he was sure if Kheanu didn't know of his strength he would not have to agree to become his company for the evening. Smug and cold, yet weirdly calm and calculated. At least for now, as no one really knew when the hotheaded wizard would snap.

She assessed the place, then decided without a single hint of bias that the Tempete mansion's ballroom was far superior in quality compared to this rotting mess. She even decided that the entire school could be described by that simple phrase; a rotting mess. She was growing homesick. She missed her family and her house and her house elves. The house elves here served out of respect and love for the residents of the castle; in the Tempete mansion, house elves served out of fear, and fear alone.
As they should, thought Viola, it is their rightful place after all. They exist to serve, so what are they without their purpose? Everything and everyone has a purpose, and they exist to fulfil that purpose, and nothing else. It's common sense.
She then shook the thought off. She feared she was now talking about more than the house elves, and she did not have the time nor the motivation to unpack anything behind her thoughts.
She distracted herself by feeling absolute pity for herself. She had not a date for the ball. She had thought her parents would have arranged it, and they had, but apparently "some things had come up". Viola was used to it by now. She knew it meant they had forgotten. She was not even close to being the most important thing in their lists. They did not prioritise her.
But they cared. They did care, Viola knew that. They were just important people with important things to do. Her mother, Lola, had her business, and her father, Lucien, had his. It was a lot of work, and Viola would have to be an ungrateful, unappreciative, disloyal child to argue with it.
If she were to look at the bright side of things, Hogwarts did come with an advantage. A lot of relatively attractive boys and girls. If she wanted, Viola could easily pick up a boy toy or three. Maybe a girl toy or two as well. She looked around for any possible victims. Unfortunately, it seemed that most people had dates, which did nothing but remind Viola her lack of one.
So, she walked towards the centre of the place, and looked around for people. For mods:
