As Main Character: Katrina Walker
Katrina was actually starting to relax. She felt her shoulders lower slightly and her gaze started to wander instead of be focused on finding something bad. She even started to bop a bit to the time of the songs. Sure, she didn't recognize any of them, but they still had a pretty good beat.

Katrina started to rub her arms together, when her fingertips brushed the place where her scar was, she tensed. So much for relaxing and enjoying the night. It was a reminder of the dangers of balls, and the real reason she was here. Despite her date.

Her date?! Where was Adonis? Fear surged up in Katrina. What if he wasn't coming? Could he have bailed? Maybe the letter was just a joke or something. A prank. Maybe he had gotten hurt and couldn't come. Maybe he was in the wrong area of the ball. They had agreed on the masquerade side, hadn't they. Even though she couldn't find a mask. But still.

Katrina sat back against the wall, mind still spinning.

Iris happily wandered the crowds. This was looking like it was going to be a really fun ball. Groups had already clustered across the area and chatter started to crescendo through the room. A few times Iris waved at people in the crowd, a fascinated smile on her face. Through it all, she was searching for one person. Her date. "Where is he?"

She heard her name being called behind her and spun around to find Lamik standing there, as if summoned. Her eyes sparked and a grin grew across her face. They had met back at the Summer Camp and had recently been in touch via owl. It had been a while since she had seen him and her heart fluttered for a second.

"Dapper suit," Iris walked up, beaming, "It suits you," The suit was a darker color of her own dress. What a wonderful coincidence.

She found her hand brushing through her recently styled and temporarily dyed purple hair. A bit of the chalky dye left a residue on her hands and she dusted it off. "I'm a bit surprised you recognized my hair," she smiled, "Do you like it?"

Iris found that she couldn't stop smiling. She decided that there was no reason for her to stop and let it continue.

Socially - not that Vita's family really did socially - the Sýkora family wasn't doing very well.

To start with, Vita's father didn't even have magical blood, so all that nonsense about blood purity had always vexed the quiet girl. And secondly, her mother had been outcast from a wealthy pureblood family when she was just 18 and, after all that drama, had become one of the most talented, non-etiquette-following witches in Slovakia. So... in Vita's eyes, being part of a pureblood bloodline was nothing to be proud of. In fact, dare she even think it, they had a lot to live up to. Especially since they seemed to just sit around doing nothing all day.

But maybe that was why Vita liked Ash. Aside from her mother's silly rebellious insistence that boys were good for self-confidence, Ash made her feel involved, like she belonged somewhere. Not that she'd dare say that to his face. Vita was a girl of few words. She'd probably just try extra hard to refrain from standing on his feet when dancing.

And that was even if she ever actually made it to the ball. She had already been forced to double back once because she'd accidentally walked out of her room on the boat without wearing any shoes - hey, nobody said she was situationally intelligent, books were a different matter - and now she was running late. Admittedly, it was only a tad late and her boots were a lot more comfortable than thin, scraggy socks, but still, Vita liked to have control.

She patted a hand on top of her head to make sure that yes, she had remembered to extract the jagged pieces of the comb that had gotten stuck in her hair, and lingered down the corridor from the ballroom. Was she overdressed? Vita didn't know. But before she could double back to ponder this mildly important fact, she saw Ash up ahead. And, well, there was the possibility that it might be weird if she saw him and immediately walked in the other direction. So she gingerly approached him, pulling up the sleeves of her dress because wow, was it hot in here?

Vita decided that yes, Hogwarts' climate and temperature was just plain weird and smiled slightly at Ash. He was her first-ever friend that she'd never felt the need to take a break from. Hell, she'd stayed in a tent with him for almost a month and he hadn't even attacked her once. Her brothers would have said he deserved a medal.

As it was, Vita decided that she'd just try to make the evening as nice for him as possible. "You look nice." She complimented in Russian.

Ash did indeed look nice, and extremely aristocratic. His mask and coat looked like they'd been made by an actual tailor and, well, they probably had. Vita grinned internally. At least she wasn't feeling over-dressed anymore. If it weren't for her mother, Vita wouldn't have even worn a dress in the first place. Not that she hadn't argued against the point. Adamantly. For several months. What was to be done for stubborn women?

"So, food or dance?" Vita asked, looping her arm through Ash's. She then proceeded to enter the Ballroom. She couldn't help but admit it was beautiful... if you liked that sort of thing. Lots of the girls had full-on wispy skirts and elaborate hairdos. Vita smirked slightly. Poor them.

She, meanwhile, had a non-itchy head and a good friend by her side. It truly felt like Sýkora was on top.

A grin like a crocodile and a bob like a funny catfish :)

Santario continued to skirt the edges of the dance floor, watching as much as she could. She was delighted to see those on the dance floor having a pleasant time; maybe for once, an event could go smoothly? Oh, wait… No, this was Hogwarts, and she was pretty sure there wasn’t a single event that went by smoothly without anyone getting hurt during her time here. A soft sigh would escape itself from her lips as her hand reached into the hidden pocket on her dress, wrapping itself around her cherrywood wand just for a moment before releasing it and continuing her way toward the drink table.

Once she arrived at the table, she would acquire herself a drink and allow herself to be tempted by a snack before making her way just past the table to a chair against the wall. Carefully swooping her dress under her with her free hand as she sat, Santario would allow herself to get a little comfortable as she sipped her drink. She would continue to scan the crowd for brooches that matched hers, though she assumed others had theirs mostly hidden, and while Santario’s wasn’t entirely out in the open, the green and silver could still be seen if someone was looking for it. Pinned into the satin that held her dress up on the left side of her throat just above the silver adornments.

That was when her silvered eyes snapped to the doors of the ballroom just in time to see the unmistakable honeyed blonde hair of her cousin enter. She was not surprised that her cousin decided not to heed her warning about coming to the event; she could only hope that she heeded the advice to have a pocket sewn to the inside of her dress for her wand, but only time will tell. Santario had no plans on approaching her unless she needed to.

Angel had never found herself to be so nervous in her entire life. Sure she had seen Milo cheering for her at the broom races, but this would be her first formal occasion with a boy of her choosing. Or, more importantly, a boy who had chosen her. Her hands shook slightly as she tried to elegantly weave her hair into a fishtailed flower, but thankfully one of her friends stepped in and finished pinning it into place and reminded her to breathe. So she did; she took a deep breath as she slid on her long black gloves, secured her mask, and stepped into her heels. She had decided to go red and black tonight to honor Milo and where he came from. While she loved her school dearly, it was a little cliché to wear your own school colors to a formal dance. So instead she decided to wear his.

The clicking of her heels reverberated off the walls as she made her way down the corridor towards the growing crescendo of music and chatter. Stopping just before the doors, she would smooth her dress and fret with her hair before taking a deep breath and walking into the ballroom. The room was stunning, to say the least, and those who had taken the time to make the decorations seem so realistic deserved an award. She scanned the room with her hazel green eyes looking for Milo’s characteristics. Maybe she had gotten there first? But that was when she saw the curly mop of blonde hair by the drink table and her ruby red lips pulled into an endearing smile.

She carefully made her way through the ballroom, dodging other mingling and dancing students making eye contact with a silver-eyed girl for just a moment. The girl felt strange and yet somehow all too familiar, but that strange girl didn’t matter. She approached Milo with a playful grin. “Hey cutie, you look lonely, need a date?” A flirty wink accompanied the heavily French-accented words.

Jacqueline smiled to herself as she walked through one of Hogwarts's many corridors in the direction of the ballroom. In her hand was a delicate silver mask, the same one she was going to put on when she arrived. The ball was going to be interesting, she thought, being a masquerade and all. She had also heard of Hogwarts' reputation with school dances. . . they never seemed to end well. The girl lifted one side of her dress slightly, not wanting to trip on the edge as she picked up her pace a little.

Seeing the entrance to the ballroom only a few doors away, Jacqueline put on her mask. The metal was slightly cold but she didn't mind. Stepping into the ballroom, she gasped aloud. The room was massive, much larger that she had anticipated. It did have to fit much of the three schools of magic though, so it made sense for it to be of such great size. Other students had already arrived, most of them wearing masks of all different shapes and colors. Some were standing awkwardly on the sides, looking like they didn't know what to do, while the majority were dancing in pairs in the middle of the room. Everything had been set up beautifully, Jacqueline would give the Hogwarts students that.

Louis. Where was he? The blonde girl looked around the ballroom searching for her friend. Or. . . whatever he was now. When he asked her to go to the ball with him a few days ago, it had come as a great surprise. The two had been very close since the first time they met, but she had never realized he liked her in that way. She had thought they were just friends. Still, she had accepted his offer for a variety of reasons. . . reasons that she couldn't even figure out now. Surely she didn't -

Jac fidgeted with the skirt of her dress, shaking away her thoughts. It wasn't like her to get so distracted like that, what had happened? Stepping off to the side of the room so she wouldn't block the entrance for the other students still trickling in, Jacqueline returned to her search for Louis. It was hard to tell with all the masks on, but she didn't think he was there. Wait, she had just spotted someone who could be him. Yes, it had to be him. She started making her way over, slipping through the dancers that were all around the room. It was much harder than it seemed, since they were moving in different directions, but she finally made it.

"Louis," she greeted him in French. There was a glint of mischief in her eye. "These decorations are better than I expected!" she added, giving him a playful smile.

Another dance. God, Rafael was freaking the hell out.

Danger, destruction, suspicion. Freaking boys, hot boys, the type that ultimately led to the second year’s emotional demise, one of many Achilles’ Heels that plagued the existence of Rafael D’Spacito. There were, in hindsight, so many reasons to avoid such an event, so many memories that one would have thought would remain tattooed in the child’s memory with an unique sort of fervor, memories that only resurfaced now that he was approaching the damned event in question. What was it about rational thinking? Oh, blast, it was foolish for such a brash and impulsive boy to even consider such a thought-provoking ideal. Even so, it was an ideal he wished he had brought with him tonight, the very virtue a subconscious protection meant to defend the boy against any mishappenings that may plague the evening. It may be normal, for once, he reasoned quietly as he approached the entrance. We may remain safe – after all, the teachers are watching us this time.

A whisper of doubt, a breath of insecurity. Could the teachers have stopped the mosps?

No, it didn’t matter. That was over. Why was he suspicious, anyways? Why was this still a damned problem? It didn’t matter, it didn’t fucking matter. Rafael dispelled the idea from his consciousness with a short puff of breath, gone but not forgotten – it was chilly out, he idly noticed as he pulled his trench coat closer, a subconscious movement with the purpose of protecting his vitality from a cold or undesirable virus. His style this evening, in fact, resembled that of the legendary Sherlock Holmes, and purposefully so, as it was a masquerade, was it not? With a deep blue button-up and midnight-black blazer, he donned quite powerfully a dark-gray trench coat, complemented softly with slim leather gloves, shiny new loafers, and a dark red scarf. A nod to his Gryffindor pride, as he would be damned to forget it. His hair, even, found a great semblance to the man's, the blue tufts having been carefully styled as to match that of the television star's. However, his style had not lost the touch of him visiting a masquerade – for on his face sat a plain black masquerade mask, its coverage enough to leak his identity to someone of familiarity, but secure enough to guarantee a secret identity to those stranger to him. This was, of course, partially purposeful, as well as partially coincidence – his suspicion, he would be loathe to admit, had subconsciously gotten the best of him in this instance, his hand careful when choosing between the different face coverings. However, his suspicion was in good taste, he would deduct, as he had been bitten once. The Blossom Ball was a bitch. And now he was twice fucking shy.

Treading with a brisk sort air, his chin high as his chocolate brown eyes scanned his surroundings, he would soon find the other lucky enough to have brought him – that would be, the lovely yet esteemed Rett Brooks, his form fit with a trim red suit and visage covered carefully by a masquerade mask. Rafael would never admit it out loud, but god, but that child was handsome, his red hair swept to the side neatly as his beautiful green eyes glistening back. In part, it peeved the young Captain, that the Ilvermorny student had managed to worm his way under the boy’s skin – unfortunately, there was naught the younger could do to contest his iron grip about his heart. They had, in truth, exchanged letters over the duration of their departure, and since then, the boy’s appreciation for the Ilvermorny had only multiplied. Even so, he would not allow Rett to know this. Instead, approaching his plus one, he would offer the other a charming smile, taking his hands up in his own. “Miss me?” the Captain would ask wryly, wiggling his eyebrows as he gazed into the eyes of his date. Then, in acknowledgement to the other’s fashion choices, “You look nice. Dressing up for your favorite Quidditch Captain?” It was an arrogant remark, yes, its sole purpose to bait the other into a response that would surely match his own. However, his focus on the matter would not remain long, for his eyes were already wandering, searching for the very acquaintance he’d kissed in the common room. “You haven’t seen Aurelia Roberts, have you?” he would ask briskly, chewing his lip in worry. They’re already going missing. “Afraid I missed her in the common room…”

As some minutes passed, Lydia kept standing kind of awkwardly on the sides of the ballroom, shifting from one foot to the other. She had started regretting coming to the dance; why would she do something like that? She did not have a date, and without Aaron or Alexander yet, she felt extremely out of place; she couldn't even look for her friend Ariana, since she had not seen her for a while now, actually not once since the new school year had started.

Her eyes kept scanning the room, not entirely sure what she was looking for; she was feeling nervous, stressed, as if something bad was supposed to happen, the moments of the Blossom Ball stuck in her mind. She shook her head as she tried to "talk" some sense into herself; this time the professors where there, nothing bad would have happened.

Lydia was so focused on her thoughts that she did not notice a certain someone enter the ballroom yet; when a new voice reached her ears, Lydia slightly jumped as her eyes fixed on a blue haired boy. He was dressed in a really lovely costume, his mask a mix of gold and black; she had never seen that kind of hair before, and his accent was clearly non-British, so she assumed he must have been from Ilvermorny. Lydia gave him a smile as she felt slightly calmer. "Thanks! I really like yours as well," she added.

His next question caught her off guard, and for a second she looked at him with her mouth open; she had never danced with a boy, not that she didn't know yet at least; she should have felt extremely nervous, but there was something about this boy that made feel slightly less tense. She smiled again, softer this time, and placed her right hand into his. "I would love that," she said, and then she would have followed August to start dancing with him. "I'm Lydia, by the way. You're not from Hogwarts, are you?"*

You could say she dressed up for the wrong season. And honestly, Aurelia was confused about what drove her to pick out an outfit that was so... erm, attention-seeking golden? But it was too late to think about her outfit now, there was still someone, scratch that, two "someones" waiting for her.

It seemed foolish that she had asked D'Spacito. But she had wanted to get to know him more, for Quidditch and as a potential friend, and besides, she didn't feel like going alone. Yep, that was all...
You wanted to clear things up. You wanted to hear him say what you already knew so you could acce- NO.
She had already accepted it. She had already accepted it.

To make matters worse, (or better) he already had a date, this time it was a boy she didn't even know. Some American dude. Miraculously she was still allowed to join them, even though Aurelia cringed heavily at the thought of her standing alone while they danced. Even his name sounded fancy. What was it again? She had written it somewhere on a note which she put in her-
pocket.
Shit. Why didn't dresses have pockets for Merlin's sake? You would think that they had evolved over the years but nooo no pockets for women. Ugh. Instead, they expected females to carry these nasty little things called purses.

As she neared the ballroom, she slid her delicate mask over her face, a beautiful gold loaded with shimmering jewels. It would serve as the princess's tiara, the crown jewel to top off her whole outfit while providing her with anonymity. Her deep blue dress swept behind her, the soft fabric providing her comfort and whose white tips occasionally showed off her dazzling shoes. Her earring resembled raindrops, which unintentionally reflected the pouring weather outside. Finally, the butterfly necklace. It was gifted to her from someone who used to mean the world to her. A warning that feelings do betray you.

They would be somewhere, Rafael and the boy. Her eyes, now glistening with excitement and nerves scanned the entrance to the ballroom.

And she found them. Kissing, actually.

Why was it always up to her to break the silence? She walked up to them, the notoriously annoying sound of heels accompanying her. They broke apart quickly and Aurelia quietly muttered: "Erm. Hey boys"

It was to be expected wasn't it?

A common location where all of the students would congregate en masse. Concentrated into a singular, enclosed space with limited exits. High windows and a single pair of doors, what would they do if something went wrong? Of course Erin had nothing to fear yet she refused to enter through the threshold. Her mask was in her hand [Link], unlike the lacy sexy things these barely pubescent girls chose to don, Erin picked something more appropriate for the time of the year. A skull mask that was clasped in her hands which rested in front of her.

She was looking for one person in particular, Kyle DeRook. A wolf among this flock of sheep, whose presence was not immediately apparent it would appear. The involvement of three schools resulted in a heavy turn out. She would cup her manicured hands around her mouth and call out his name. "Kyle, punch someone! I can't find you!" She did not expect him to actually punch someone, but she expected a reaction. She expected whoever was near the rumored bully, potential bad ass if facial scars mean anything, to move away and grant the Gryffindor appreciable breadth,

Erin did not arrive with much. As stated, she was wearing a pair of leather fingerless gloves [Link]. A pair of three inch heels that added a few appreciable inches to her height. it would seem that Hogwarts was filled with extremes. Many of the girls were barely five foot. Midgets or giants, there were few 'normal' people, not stunted or suffering from some variant of Morfrans.

She would look around the ballroom. There were certain persons of interest she wished to collect, most of them Hufflepuffs it would seem -- @Howard White, @Quinn Healy and @Reid Kovacs. To a lesser extent, there was some idle interest in @Thomas Lestrange, a Slytherin who might show up as an antagonistic source that she would rather enjoy watching burn. Unlike the hormonal terrors that were the female population here at Hogwarts, she was not trying to suck off their symmetrical faces. She had alternative intentions. But first, @Kyle DeRook.

At long last, dull eyes that had been watching the passersby immediately brightened at the sight of his handsome date. He looked like an attempt at Sherlock Holmes, this boy was doing an investigation into his heart and he was finding all the right clues. It was up to him to make the conclusion. It suddenly made Rett feel as if he should've had a theme to his costume besides red and black. It was good enough for him, he was sure he wouldn't be the only one that was simply dressed up rather than having an accompanying costume.

A small hum of delight came as Rafael's hands slipped into his and the warm, sweet, voice that he had missed so dearly was finally his to hear again. "More than you know." Rett wasn't one for restraint, not at this point at least. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at the comment about dressing up for him. "You know, red isn't just a Gryffindor color. It's an Ilvermorny color too. But, if it wins me ten points then consider that the case." A quidditch reference, normally not something he would do, but for him he would. With Rafael in front of him, his eyes stayed glued to the magnificent face before him. While Rafa... looked for Aurelia. It was quite disappointing. She wasn't even here, and already he was struggling for his undivided attention.

"I don't even know what she looks like." Ah yes, to look for a girl who he didn't even know. That was be successful. He was frustrated with the lack of attention. "Did you miss me, my dear captain?" One of his hands released from his to gently cup Rafa's face and give him a chaste kiss on his lips. They had only kissed once before, during the summer. Rett couldn't help but steal another. His attention was finally broken, with a voice.

His eyes settled on a girl that had taken the idea of dressing up like him, rather than with a theme. Although, her theme was extremely blue, to his red. An interesting dichotomy. "And you must be Ms. Roberts." He gave a small bow of the head in acknowledgment. He was a gentleman after all. His southern drawl was sickly sweet, with a hint of condescending. Something those from the south were a master at. "It's so nice of you to join me and my date tonight at the masquerade." There would be not a moment that he didn't remind her that Rafa was here with him first and foremost, not her. "I suppose I should introduce myself properly. Everett Brooks, 2nd year. Ilvermony. Horned Serpent." A small smirk laid on his face, it seemed to be a natural look on him.
Permission to give a kiss to Rafael given.

Kyle sat on the edge of his bed moving his hand around slowly as his spider, Ariadne, skittered across his hand. On the one hand, he was looking forward to the ball. He was going with a girl who was easy on the eyes, and was also a trouble maker. There was no worries about her finding out he was a bully, that he hurt people and fought and turning her back on him. There was still the fear of his other secret though. Or rather, his curse. "What do you say Ari. Do I go, or do I wuss out?"

the spider, to be expected, gave no answer as her unblinking black eyes stared back at him.

"Eh, what do you know...you eat bugs"

---

Kyle adjusted his mask as he made his way down the stairs. From the sharp corners and the patchwork look it could have been scrap metal welded together by an amateur, and for all anyone knew it was. His vest was buttoned and thankfully covering his bite scar where his neck and shoulder met. the lack of shirt revealed the growing muscles of the boy as he continued to train as a beater and for boxing, and his tie tied around his bicep like an arm band helped with that image. As always his boots stuck out from the noise they made on the stone as opposed to sneakers or dress shoes. And as he entered the hall outside the ballroom he ran a hand through his shoulder length messy hair, the viking braids with silver celtic rune adorned beads surely would draw they eye of anyone who could get past the rest of his attire and face scar coming form under his mask to his jaw line on the left side. He put a hand on the door, seeing the black hand wraps around his hands much like a boxer wears. He nods to himself and pushes seeing a large group of people already inside. With a deep breath, he entered.

The smell was worse this year. Or at the very least, he was more sensitive to it as his curse changed him more and more each day. Strong perfumes, and colognes and general body odor of so many adolescents crammed in one room with no open windows. He could tell he was going to get a headache eventually but that was a problem for later.

He walked through the crowd, taking no attempts at gently moving past people as he instead pushed or shoulder checked anyone who impeded his progress. His hard steel blue eyes glared at anyone who gave him a second look and he even snarled at someone at one point. He wasn't here to make new friends, or to socialize or even dance really. He was here to cause trouble, and see exactly what Erin had in store for the two of them.

"Kyle, punch someone! I can't find you!

a smirk touched his lip and for a second he considered cold cocking someone, but decided against it. For now anyway. Instead he turned towards her voice and borderline battering rammed his way through as he just pushed forward in a straight line not caring who got in his way as he crossed the ballroom towards his date.

When he saw her he would be lying if he said she wasn't stunning, she wore the dress very well and her Veela heritage did her many favors. not that Kyle knew she wasn't a pure blooded human. Not like he of all people could judge regardless. Once he got next to her he punched her, playfully, in the arm and he cocked an eyebrow, not that it could probably be seen behind his mask. "Does that count?"
