Event The Fall Ball (Masquerade)

Today was the day. Carolyn was going to her first proper ball and she actually had a partner for it. Of course, the witch already knew how to dance. Her primary focus was ballet but she made sure to learn Ballroom dancing too. She knew it would come in handy one day and boy was she right. She just hoped she would actually get to dance. It would be shame if that wasn’t the case. Social interaction was not her forte, dancing on the other hand…Well, we’ll see. Truth be told, Carolyn was a bit nervous, she felt like most of the people she knew would be attending the costume party yet it was not enough to change her mind. She was sure the atmosphere there would be warm and friendly but for once, the witch wanted to experience a grand and mysterious event. It also felt like the masquerade would suit her better dancing style wise.

Almost there. Carolyn made sure no one was watching before taking one last deep breath to calm herself. She hated the fact that she had to wear the gift from her grandma today and she hated herself even more for loving the garment so much. The ballerina vibe was just a dream come true and it felt like home when it should have felt anything but. Not only that but it was also extremely convenient considering her common room location. Sure, one day she would like to wear a long gown too but Carolyn didn't think she was ready to experience all those stairs in a potential death trap just yet. These will be twirling beautifully just as much as long ball gown would. Plus no stepping on the dress, which is definitely a bonus. She decided happily. There was no reason to dwell on the origin of her dress any longer. It didn’t make sense to ruin this evening for herself over such small detail.

When Carolyn finally approached the door, she wasn't wearing her mask. She was supposed to meet Illya inside and wanted to make sure he recognised her. After all, they only met once and he didn't know what she would be wearing today. Did I come too early? The girl thought nervously as she stepped inside the beautifully decorated ballroom. Her professors and classmates sure did a LOT of hard work here. The atmosphere was a bit ominous but also full of elegance and grandness. It was exactly what she hoped for. For now though, Carolyn didn't go on and explore the space any further. She stayed close to the entrance, exactly as she promised. Illya would have too much trouble finding her if she started wandering around. Everybody looks so beautiful too... This would definitely be something worth remembering in the future. The witch decided while scanning the room for her partner. Hopefully, he didn't change his mind.

Felicia glanced at the new girl joining her and Melissa. Her green dress was very eye-catching, and she carried herself with a lot of confidence. Felicia actually was starting to enjoy the night. She wasn’t sure if she should be happy about it or disappointed in herself though. Regardless she wanted to make the most of the experience.

As the ball went on, everyone raved about the splendor of the night’s decorations. Felicia continued to add to the discussion. “You know, whoever put this whole thing together definitely deserves the highest praise! The logistics of getting everything organized had to have been an utter nightmare.” The venue was truly a sight to behold and Felicia had to respect all of the work put into getting everything ready.

“At first I thought tonight would be filled with a bunch of pompous idiots who only wanted to gloat and show off their fancy clothes or tout their bourgeois blood-status!” Felicia made sure to jokingly stress the French word with over the top theatrics. “But it’s nice to see some cute moments like that!” Felicia pointed out at two boys who were wrapped in tightest embrace. She couldn’t help but smile at the wholesome display that was happening. Meanwhile she also noticed a couple of people from the costume party walk in. She could hardly believe her eyes when looking at some of silly things they came dressed in. Was some girl actually here as…the moon? Felicia could no longer hide her disdain when she saw the lunar themed costume.

“Hopefully those weirdos don’t mess up the mood.” She groaned while making faces across the room. The more the three girls chattered, the more comfortable Felicia started to feel, and her unfiltered opinions started escaping from her lips.

Liz could feel peoples eyes on here. She knew she looked good. She flaunted it as well. Of course she thought many others in here looked beautiful, but would she tell them that? No, of course not. She took a sip of her drink and smiled. It was just Pumpkin Juice. She took another sip and took in her two companions.

One girl was adorned in black, her dress short and cute with matching make up and mask. The other was dressed in a bright yellow outfit. It was painfully Hufflepuff, although she didn't know what house the girl was in, but she could guess. Both of them seemed to deeply appreciate the ball and this made Liz smile more. She was glad she had taken up conversation with two people who seemed optimistic.

Her bliss didn't last for long though. It was cut short by the girl spitting on blood statuses. Liz took a deep sneering breath and was about to say something when the girl then drew her attention to her cousin. She groaned, any sign of hostility gone. "The one in the pink suit is my second cousin. He's my date or whatever. I didn't know he had friends." She said, mildly impressed that the ball of anxiety and nerdiness could bring himself to talk to anyone, let alone give a hug to someone. She turned her face away in disdain, noticing the girls attention was now somewhere else.

Liz's face lit up. Suddenly loud laughter ripped from her at the sight before her. She quickly set her drink aside, as not to spill it in her mirth. Before her very eyes she saw her worst enemy, Martyna Romero, dressed up in a moon costume. A MOON costume. Insults filtered into Liz's brain immediately as she continued to laugh. She hoped Tina heard her, that would make it even better.

"Oh my god. I know her. My name is Elizabeth, by the way. That's Martyna Romero, or as I like to call her, Mad Marty. I hate her so much. She is my worst enemy. Wow she really let the candy bars get to her. I tried to warn her, but she didn't listen.", she said, wiping tears away from her eyes. She continued to snigger for another 5 minutes. This night was off to a great start.
Action: Chatting with Melissa and Felicia.

Within the next moment Emile was surrounded in warmth. A smile broke across his face. This was heaven. Just standing in his best friends arms after not seeing him for a solid 2 months was amazing. Of course the two had kept in touch and had discussed all their classes, but still. Nothing could compare to being in person.

He wrapped his arms around the male and squeezed him tight. He didn't care about PDA. He was just happy to finally see his friend again. Finally Earl pulled away, leaving Emile to feel sad and cold. But it made sense. Soon Earl was introducing Emile and the other boy, Leonard. Emile smiled shyly at Leonard and waved. He stuck close to Earl and listened to the boys question.

He nodded simply and then thought he should maybe add more to his response. Chuckling at Leonards joke about hexing him, he said, "Yes! I am from Beauxbatons and no, you didn't ruin it too bad. I guess I will spare you for now. What house are you in here? I know only a bit about them. What were they....? Earl I know is in Hufflepuff...and the other three were Ravenclaw....Slythering and Gryfdor? I know those aren't right."He was laughing now. He knew he just butchered those badly. He was confident in the fact that he got Earls house right, but other than that, it was fair game.

His smile quickly slid from his face however, when Florian glided into the room with Rosa on his arm. They both looked....incredibly hot. "Lord have mercy.", he murmured to himself. He found himself taking in the two for an extended amount of time. They were both his bullies and yet he still ogled them.

Too long. He stared for two long and it seemed Florian sensed a pair of eyes on him. The two made eye contact and Emile could see the narrowed eyes beginning to form from across the room. He quickly whipped his head around, back to Earl and Leonard. He purposely turned his pink-cladded back towards Florian and took Earl's soft hand in his own, without realizing it. He needed the comfort right now.

Event The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
This time she knew everything (as she thought). At least she found ways to find out how things were organised. She went down to the ballroom and peeked through the door. She wouldn't have any masquerade costume or even a mask. She would wear her casual outfit and a badge. Robes were too tiring, especially for guarding.
Watching @Xailah Alptraum
The ballroom was already filled with people, so she had already failed the first part of her job. The job she had given to herself. She was carefully watching around the place to search for the Catwoman. It was an outstanding costume, so it wasn't particularly hard even to guess who was in it (and Meenauh knew). Maybe Xailah didn't quite get the concept of a masque really. Why covering your face with something to conceal the identity if the whole attire would instantly give away the owner. Xailah was too spectacular and unordinary even to pretend she could succeed in attempting to cover her identity.

With the successful detection of her target, she nodded to herself and stepped out of the ballroom. She did spend a few more seconds analysing the whole ballroom and even the particular features that looked incredible and unbelievable even for wizards. But it was a distraction when she had to focus. She'd quickly vanish from the big room to find herself on the other side of the doors, commencing her duty. God bless them all.

Mars was startled out of their position leaning against the drink table by the arrival of a silver-masked girl. A Hogwarts student probably, and if the fact she'd quite literally bounced over to them was any tell, a Hufflepuff. Mars took a moment to admire her pink dress, eyes catching on the butterflies littered over the skirt. How pretty.

They took another sip as the newcomer greeted Cash. Was this the Snake's date? They couldn't quite tell. As she turned to Mars, they propped themselves up correctly, planting a half-smile over their features.

"It's nice to meet you, Lindsey. I'm Mars," the silver they/them pin on their label glinted in the candlelight as the wix snuck a glance at Cash. Hmm, nothing indicating that this was their partner for the night. Mars looked back at Lindsey, gesturing at the Slytherin with their cup.

"How're you enjoying the ball? I've been pestering Cash about their date," they said with a grin. Hopefully, that would be enough to steer the conversation around enough that Mars could figure out what was going on. Why were people so complicated?

The lull of the music was fluxing in and out, something that Mars clung to in the back of their mind. In all honesty, they were quite surprised anyone new had approached them, but it was—nice. Nicer than they'd thought.

"And you, Lindsey? Waiting for someone?"

So, she wanted to play. This was amounting to be much more fun than he anticipated. Alexander swept the two of them around the Ballroom, feet in perfect step to the music. What kind of gentleman would he be if he didn't know how to dance?

"Well, I'm glad you are then," he responded, eyes trained on her face, "I'd hate to disappoint a lady." They rounded again and on his part, Alexander had to admit she was an exceptional dancer. Dancers, he found, were some of the most prudish people on Earth.

A minute or two passed before Katherine spoke again. The Durmstrang boy held in his chuckle at her ask of him being a perfectionist. "Do you find something wrong with that, dove? Isn't it good to be good at what one does?" He was, in very essence, certainly a perfectionist. But that, of all things, was hardly something to hide.

Alexander smiled at her rather backhanded compliment, a pleasant mental image of someone tripping over Kathrine's feet appearing in his mind. He didn't need such things, of course, because he knew he was good, but it came as it should and he didn't see fault in basking in it.

Another twirl and Katherine continued her tirade. Alexander listened with a flick of a smile on his face, the laughter curling up in his stomach.

"You truly believe you've figured me out, Miss Labrouder," he spoke softly, eyes shining dimly in the candlelight, "but I can't see where you're going with this. I have told no lies and I've confirmed only what is true. If this is simply gossip for when the night grows old, then please, gossip as you will." Alexander smiled serenely at the girl. Who would believe you?

The boy was nearly sure she was done when she made one final remark. Oh? Well, perhaps there was some truth to that. But this wasn't the kind of teasing that got under his skin at all. This was the kind he weaponized, delighted in slipping under loose skin and shaving up, up into pretty white flesh.

"On the contrary, my dear," he smiled, "Tease away." Oh my. This was hilariously funny. Alexander was quite proud his face stayed straight as he spun them around the dance floor once more.

Melissa felt a sick feeling in her stomach she didn't want to seem rude and tell them to stop being mean and talking about the other people behind there back. But Melissa couldn't let them carry on ' To be honest I think they are all rocking there outfits and can wear what they want its not your choice it there's as long there happy everything fine and it shouldn't bother you' Melissa felt proud of her self for speaking out but she was nervous of how they would respond as the way they spoke about Martyna Romero. She did Melissa spoke out but would she regret that.

As Melissa grabbed a drink from the table she couldn't get over the fact that it was fun for them to be rude about other people and mean. Melissa sipped her drink and waited for them both to reply kind of dreading there response because Melissa knew it probably wouldn't be the nicest thing in the world but Melissa knew she had to man up and be able to win this war she had just started with these two girls.

Melissa blurted out'Your probably just jealous that's why your being rude about them Melissa smirked.

It seemed like small talk had gone out of the window. Scarlett watched carefully as a boy approached their little group. A suave sort of charm appeared to be radiating off the guy in waves as he came up to the trio of girls. You could hardly call it a trio in friendship terms though. She had barely talked to the Lily kid who had spouted some strange language. Scarlett eyed the newcomer and his fancy tuxedo, green eyes and brown hair. He wore a dumb, dopey expression as if he wanted to sway them somehow.

Oh she knew this type.

At the Quidditch match between Durmstrang and Hufflepuff, Scarlett, Rose and Aurelia - a trio - had been approached by a Durmstrang boy with a similar stance to this one. Rose and Aurelia had obviously been charmed, but Scarlett hadn't. She had been rather suspicious and her musings were proved correct - the Durmstrang boy had abruptly left them to go and shout in a fellow boy's face. Who did that? It looked like this guy was the same with his confident swagger and dumb (dumb - seriously?) expression.

He decided to introduce himself with his native language. (Lily had done that - there might've been a trend going on here) "What lovely outfits you all have. My name's André. And you three are?"

Scarlett was about to snap back an impulsive sarcastic remark before Lily jumped in and saved her. Maybe the first-year wasn't that bad. Even though it wasn't deliberate, it was better than anything those little brats had done at the Gryffindor table on the first day. Though, admittedly, Beckett and Ivy had had their faults as well.

Wait. Was that a faint blush appearing on Lily's cheeks?

Merlin, not another one swayed. Scarlett exchanged a subtle glance with Lucia, but regretted it instantly. Her friend was more of the romantic daydreamer type. Wishing for true love. No need to crush hopes today.

Then there was an odd sound as Scarlett turned to Lily, who seemed to be saying something in another tongue. She caught something about 'Scarlett' and 'Lucia'. Scarlett decided to jump in the conversation

"Basically, I'm Scarlett and this young lady here-" Scarlett gestured to her raven-haired friend. "is Lucia. Why did you decide to pay us a visit, all of a sudden? I presume you're from Beauxbatons or Durmstrang or Ilvermorny. I haven't seen you around here before."

Her tone didn't imply friendliness of any sort.

Dee didn't have to wait long until she felt a hand on her arm and turned around, a bright smile lighting up her face, her eyes shining behind the mask. She took the compliment in stride, this was what people were supposed to say at events like this, right? "Thank you!" she replied and took a second to take in Zykeal's outfit. "You look pretty good yourself," she noted and reached up to touch one of the spikes pointing downwards from his mask. "I like these." And he did. He'd chosen to go along with her 20s themed outfit, and she liked the contrast between them, light and dark.

There was a steady stream of students, both known and unknown, older and younger than her, flowing past them into the quickly filling ballroom. "Let's go in?" she suggested, but didn't wait for confirmation before she reached for his wrist and pulled him in with her.

After they had stepped through the doors and a little further into the ballroom, Dee paused slightly. She'd known what it looked like, of course, had helped with the planning and the decorations, although Flash had taken the reins on the Masquerade while Dee and Ileen had been busy with other things, but it was different to see it all come together now, the music playing in the background, students bringing life to the large space. There were already groups forming around the ballroom, a lot of chatter, some people dancing. It wasn't that she'd been worried that no one would show up - the presence of the foreign students alone would be enough incentive to bring people to show up - but it was still nice to see their vision come to life. They had worked hard on this, and Dee would do all that was in her power to make sure that the evening went without a hitch.

Anticipation sparked in her eyes as she turned towards Zyk, her smile returning in full force. "So?" she asked, obviously proud what they had accomplished. "What do you think?"

The pause to admire her work over, Dee moved slowly further into the ballroom, searching for familiar faces, but didn't spot anyone she particularly wanted to talk to. She knew Ileen and Erik had to be around here somewhere, Ileen was much more punctual than she was, but she couldn't see them in the crowd, so finally she twirled around to face Zykeal again. "Want to dance?" she asked, excited. "Although I have to admit I can't really dance. I mean I can, a bit." The dancing class with Ileen had been interrupted, but her dance with Prometheus on the grounds had gone alright, hadn't it? "Just not very well. But the atmosphere here does ask for a dance, don't you think?"

“Oh lord have mercy,” Emile had muttered, looking towards a couple advancing to the dance floor.

And color seemed to slowly fade out of the world.

The beautiful people and mood lighting around them suddenly seemed a lot less important, becoming a blurry mess as his attention zoned in on Emile. He didn’t really process what the boy had said as his brain was scrambling to suppress the thoughts, compress them into a tiny little box and set them on a shelf somewhere What he DID process was the wave of sadness which washed over him, so huge it seemed to swallow him up, push him under and choke him. All the joy from before had leaked out of him, instead replaced with a stabbing pain which grew by the second.

Pressing his lips together, the small boy looked away, blush dying down as quickly as it had appeared, eyes turning back to their regular shade of light gray. A gust of wind coming from the ball room doors closing ruffled his hair, sending a chill down his spine. And along with the disappearance of his joy, the room seemed to darken, music becoming harder to swallow. Struggling to breathe, Earl forced himself to focus on…something. Anything. No, not anything. Anything but Emile. The French boy had done nothing wrong, really. Our pink boyo was having a hard time recognizing why he exactly he felt like curling up in a tiny, tiny ball and staying like that for the rest of the night. The emotions were there, the reason? Not as much.

“Haha, yeah, I’ll have your back,” he said in a very small voice, making eye contact with Leo. He suddenly seemed a lot smaller, a lot thinner. Fragile, like a glass flower. A very cracked glass flower, which had been dropped on the floor and left there for the next person to step on and crush.

Emile only looked back towards them, towards h i m, when the young couple he’d been ogling turned their way. And Earl hadn’t regained his composure. Gently removing his hand from Emile’s grip, he shifted away and offering a pale smile as apology. “I have a few people I need to talk with,” he mumbled, tucking a strand of flaming hair behind his ear. “I’ll be right back.” And so he slipped away, knowing full well that if he’d stayed there for much longer, he wouldn’t have been able to keep it together.

His first thought had been to go to the abandoned toilets, but one look cast towards the doors revealed them to be closed. So, instead, he allowed himself to mingle with the crowd, get lost in the background, become the backdrop to someone else’s story.

And, inevitably, he ended up wandering over to his brother. Draven was, as usual, hanging out with his goth girlfriend, arms crossed over his chest, a dead look in his pale blue eyes. “The retard has chosen to grace us with his presence,” Draven spit out, leaning against the wall as third years turned their eyes towards him. “Yes,” Earl said, sitting down beside his brother and leaning against him to the older boy’s disgust. “Earl, I SWEAR,” Draven hissed, taking a step backwards and raising his hand as if to strike him. Yeah. This felt about right.

“Thanks,” Earl beamed up at his brother, putting his hands in the pockets of his suit. It was easier to smile to spite Draven, than to fight the depression which had set over him. So he looked up at his brother like a happy little puff, the pygmy peaking its head out from his breast pocket, to also stare the edgy young boy down. “You look really good. Black is a good color on you.”

“And blue is a good color on YOU. If you don’t move, I’ll help give your skin a tint.” Earl believed him to, as did everyone else around them. Before things could get hairy, Earl had moved on to another spot in the ball room, this time mingling with a group of girls and staying put.

Paisley hesitated, searching Sarah's face for any hint of lingering sorrow. Only when she found none did she start to speak, pulling out of the hug as she did so. It seemed as if they had retired to the edge of the dance floor for the time being. If Sarah wanted to continue dancing, Paisley would agree wholeheartedly, and the conversing would've been done whilst dancing.

"My life...is boring." she admitted, giving a small laugh. "My mom is a Wizarding robe designer, although she hasn't worked on something in years because of my sister, Claudia is what she calls a 'handful'. My dad's a muggle." she said, and was about to add on by saying something about being a werewolf, but she couldn't do it. She couldn't bring herself to face the consequences that would follow. The explanation, the fear, the anxiety, it was all too much for her to handle right then. She was good with comforting other people, but when it came to helping herself, she lost every time.

As she was lost in thought, her hand went automatically to the scar on her left shoulder blade, where she fidgeted while thoroughly troubled. She hadn't thought about it before, but with this dress it was painfully visible to the naked eye. It traveled from her top left shoulder blade, down to her alternate hip, and although you couldn't see the bottom, the entire top half ought to be visible to Sarah. She said a few things in her head that her parents most definitely wouldn't like to hear, realizing her mistake all too late. She had been too hasty with getting ready to even notice the scar could be seen.

Her back started to prickle with sweat, and her hands were clammy. He eyes darted from side to side quickly scanning her surroundings. She was making sure no one was listening, watching, waiting for her to reveal the secret, her secret. There was only one other person Paisley had told.

"There is something...something else I should probably tell you. I think you have to know." she took a few deep breaths. Every fiber of her being was telling her no. It was her instinct to back away, to be weak and not say anything. To be the lone wolf. To endure everything, and everyone, all on her own. It was what she deserved for being a monster. But she couldn't. Not anymore. She needed to do this. The conflict in her eyes was deep, breaking past the naive surface to reveal someone who had faced terrible things. At first glance, you would never expect something so thoughtful to be held within the young girl's eyes. "I am-" she stopped short. She looked into Sarah's eyes, searching yet again for any sign that she might be scared. "a lycanthrope." she said hesitantly, and then the pipe broke. "I'm not dangerous, I swear on my life. My mother, she works as hard as she can to brew wolfsbane and get the ingredients, she's even showed me how to do it, although I've never tried, and they supply it here too, every full moon, that is. Not everday, because I'm not dangerous everyday, only on the full moon, but that's if I don't get the wolfsbane, but they give it to me, like I just said. I've never been without it while in wolf form, and the only really wolfish thing about me is I can detect people's scents. That's it, and I go to the shrieking shack every full moon and-" she broke off, looking to the ground, the weight of what she had done finally setting in. She had told Sarah the 1 thing she said she wouldn't tell her tonight."I just couldn't think of the right time to tell you." she laughed despite the circumstances. "There I was, talking to you about timing, and now-" she shook her head. "Do you hate me?" her voice broke.
