The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
Illowy sucked in a deep breath as she waited by the doors for her date. It was still such a concept to her that she even had a date, having shown up to nearly every single school event since first year alone; perhaps occasionally meeting up with a group, though she never stuck by them for long. Either they normally wandered off to greener pastures or the chaos of the event would cause her to get separated from them. Not tonight though.Mentions : @Ruby Cazares

The snake hoped, for once, to have a quiet, fun night of dancing and mingling and enjoying her first real date. No hags or part giants or fires or catastrophe. No unexpected visits to the Hospital Wing. However... this was Hogwarts after all, and just as always she was prepared, her wand buried safely in her pocket within the folds of her gown. If something did go down, her first priority was to keep Ruby safe.
She quickly shook away those thoughts though, pulling her shawl around herself. The snake had also made the decision to try to come out of her comfort zone a bit. Since the attack on Slytherin had left her, and other members of her house, littered with odd ichor scars, she'd been known to cover up as much as she could. Even at a masked ball, anyone who knew her would be able to quickly identify her by he markings on her cheek, neck and shoulder alone. It was a strange feeling to be so recognizable, even in a mask; but around Ruby, she often forgot such an event even existed, or that there was anything wrong with her at all. Just as well, for once, she just wanted to look nice and feel pretty, and she was sure the moment her date arrived, those insecurities would melt away, just as they always did.
At least the bit of time she had to herself before Ruby arrived, she'd be able to gaze after those arriving. Swaying softly to the rhythm of the music, her pale eyes would flit from person to person, trying to determine identities and potential trouble makers... or anything else off about the party.
For the love of all things decent, let this be a perfect night, she thought to herself.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Interacting With: @Valerie Baines & @Thomas Baines
For Elias, it was slightly strange to be coming to such a... public event. Outside of the quidditch pitch, the boy found himself interacting with very few people as a matter of fact. Those he did talk to were few and far between and well, truth be told he wouldn't be here at all were it not for Miss. @Callie Jensen. Much like Thomas, the boy had been dragged into coming to this... ball... by their mutual friend. Unlike his rival, however, the boy had managed to secure himself a date, or rather, a friend for the night. Referring to a girl he had only met a mere month ago as a date seemed a tad presumptuous in his eyes.
Making his way into the ballroom, Eli couldn't help but feel slightly nervous. His friends would finally be coming to realize who it was that he spent his time with when he wasn't with them, and it clearly was not the library as he had been saying. Despite one of his arms being occupied by the girl he was escorting, the awkward young Ravenclaw was still somehow managing to idly fiddle with the front button of his suit jacket as his piercing blue eyes anxiously scanned the crowd in search of someone he knew. While he had brought Valerie with him for a reason, the boy hadn't quite plucked up enough courage to take the girl out onto the dancefloor just yet, to be completely honest, he didn't have the confidence to go out there alone either. Thankfully, just when he thought he was going to have absolutely no luck in finding anyone he knew at the ball, Elias spotted an incredibly minuscule boy attempting to sneak towards the door. One he knew all too well to be Thomas Baines.
Turning his attention towards the Slytherin, a soft smile formed on the visible half of his face, the rest of it hidden behind a rather intricate mask, "Fancy a drink? I think I see a friend of mine over by the table, I can introduce the two of you."
With the girl's approval, he began slowly guiding her through the relatively large crowd. It took almost all of the young wizard's concentration, but soon enough, both he and Valerie were in earshot of Thomas, and so, he called out, "Tommy!" Part of Elias was doing this just to see if some girl mysteriously materialized at his rival's side, and if not, he could flaunt the fact that he had brought Valerie along with him, another part of him however did genuinely want to introduce the two to one another. Ultimately, even if it often seemed like they weren't, he and Thomas were... friends. He had quite a bit of respect for the boy's opinion, though he would never say it, and thus, he wanted to know what he thought of his new friend.
Action: Appearing to harass Thomas, just as any good rival should.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
If the pink-haired, sharply dressed boy was one of the brightest stars in the gala, shining with smiles, he just went supernova.
Leonard felt slightly as though he was intruding while watching the two hug as though it would be the last time (which, knowing Hogwarts, it had a thirty percent chance of that becoming the truth). Such displays of affection made no sense to him, as it prolonged touch and transmitted even more who-knows-what onto both parties’ clean suits and dresses. Also because most of his younger childhood was spent being tricked into hugging either his uncle or his father, only to be greeted with one of the muggle electric shock toys right in his unsuspecting.
“Yeah, name’s Leonard. Leonard Oaksworth,” he said, waving at the two of them for no particular reason other than habit. Handshakes were to be avoided at all times, especially when the majority of foods in the castle has a sticky consistency. “Greetings to the two of you on this fine, fine evening.”
He then addressed the boy in the pink suit. He’d heard of arrivals from the other schools in the area, though he hadn’t really talked to one after an incident involving spilled ink and a Durmstrang student’s uniform that had ended in him resolving to never talk to anyone from that school as long as he lived. From what he knew of them, the French school was full of elegant types and much more fashionable uniforms.
“By the way, Emile, do you go to Beauxbatons? Don’t think I’ve seen you around here before. Also, if you do and I just pronounced it wrong, as I’m sure I did, I plead you to not hex my bum off.”
“Um, Earl,” he whispered to the likely Hufflepuff, judging from the boy’s tie. “If he does hex my bum off, promise you’ll cover me while I run out of here.”
much to the detriment of leonard oaksworth’s mental health...

Aida stepped onto the ballroom floor along with so many other denizens of the converging magical academies. Just one girl amidst dozens of other magical girls. Aida smiled darkly to herself. With luck, no one would even know that she had been there. Well, almost no one.
The blindingly white albino had never asked to fit in no matter how cruelly she had been singled out in her youth. No matter the torment others had levelled at her, no, she never wanted to be one of them. Yet, now that her peer group had become older, half-children half-adults, Aida rarely became the target of such attacks anymore. Some might even say it was easier for strange girls like Aida to fit in at a place like Hogwarts. However, surrounded by these maturing youths Aida noticed the continuing pattern of children being socialized into being deceptive as part of becoming adults. What had started at the earliest ages, reprimands of parents telling their children not to stare nor say bad things about Aida to her face, seemed internalized and more subtle now. To Aida, all the nasty thoughts the children had yelled at her before were surely still going on in peoples' minds– just more secretively now. Preferring the terrors of a dark childhood to this new environment of increasingly convincing liars, Aida found that though attacks on her strangeness had dissipated and on the surface she appeared to have been accepted, in truth Aida fit in less than ever.
Like the majority of girls in the ballroom, Aida had gone to great lengths to dress well for this occasion, even if it meant wearing articles that she had never tried before. She was wearing a mask, too, but it was facing backwards on her head since it would otherwise get in the way of the first phase of the plan. Grinning to herself, Aida thought she looked very like an adult: two-faced. Wondering how many people would be trying out a different persona tonight, either in the spirit of All Hallow's Eve or out of an inherent wish, Aida thought back on whom she was costumed to represent and sighed almost inaudibly. Without the powers of occlumency, no one would just understand. She had not told any of her friends about the White General nor even the Undead King. She had wanted to get help from Alexander by means of a "therapy" session, but her attempt was diverted and then further interrupted by events in the forest, the kitchens, and his presumed death. The closest one to finding out her secrets had in fact become Ileen, but with how recently they had met too much basic catching-up prevented delving into the specifics of Aida's hallucinations. This was all fine to Aida, or rather, it would have to be. To the white witch it was far more important that she focus on the quest for Alexander's lost years, helping Ileen come to terms with her parents, and generally being a good friend to Dealla. Somehow I have to find the strength to carry on like this, Aida thought as she stared out into the crowd.
Aida had never been so dressed up in her life, and yet, no one would see any of it so long as she was hidden beneath the new invisibility cloak that she and Alexander had bought. Walking slowly, silently, Aida wondered what kind of night this really was for each of her friends. What were they thinking, feeling? Aida wished she knew. Then, did Aida even know what she herself was thinking?
It felt nice that from the far corner Aida had a good vantage point over the rest of the ballroom– a fact that was surely helping her cope with being in such a crowded space. Aida's claustrophobia had never been about the tight spaces themselves, but rather the threat of others inside a small space with her. Yet, those thousands of times when Aida had closed her eyes and pretended to be in her cave– was it other people that she was trying to blot out, or herself? This was not the first time she had wondered this, but under the cloak of invisibility Aida found such questions increasingly irrelevant. While no one could target the creepy "albino of cursed parentage" now that she was undetectable, it was too late for the cloak to be useful for hiding from that. The children had grown up too much to attack her directly, predictably.
Careful to not let anyone bump into her, the young witch walked to a corner opposite the orchestra and crouched down where no one was likely to go. Aida then looked at the different pairs of dancers swaying, whether graceful or inexperienced, as well as the musicians as they played. Like this she could stare as much as she liked without upsetting anyone. The room had been beautifully decorated by the planning team and their minions, and the fragrances of hot cider, pumpkin juice, pine, and spices helped put Aida at ease in what would have otherwise been a room filled with the smells of many sweating dancers. All-in-all it was a fine event to be sure. Aida eyed the exit as she reached into a pouch to run her fingers lovingly over a small badger skull. Soon it would be time. She did not need to look to admire the skull, for she knew it by feel after having memorized its every crack and crevice. Collecting the skull in her hand and closing the drawstrings behind it, Aida knew no one would be able to see her secret treasure beneath the cloak. Somehow the little thing made her feel slightly less lonely, as both she and it gazed out over the crowd with their invisible but inherently radiant white faces. One more animal in a room full of humans and humanoids.
A cold thrill shivered down Aida's spine followed by a sense of alarm piercing her gut. This was not what she had come to the ball for. She could not deny that she enjoyed the sense of power the cloak gave her. Yet, she couldn't help but wonder if her secretive observation was justified by the ugliness of humanity's deception and ill will. Thumb running over the top of the badger skull, Aida's surroundings faded away as she thought back to one fateful, even sacred night...
If it had been so wrong to hide herself then, how could Aida justify using the invisibility cloak now? Was she not being just as deceptive as the grown-ups she hated? Was it wrong to love that wonderful power the cloak gave her? Reaching to scratch the back of her scalp, Aida's hand felt her mask hanging on the back of her head. It had been so comfortable that she forgot it was there. Touching its gnarly surface again, the spatial memory of Aida's blindvision pieced its face back together. A frightful, beautiful face. Her sensation of wonder mixing with fear threw Aida back into memories of Alexander's unnervingly subtle fake smiles from when he talked to Sylvain at the station, when he agreed to see the music festival, and when he fed Canbey a line about being allergic to mint. If Alexander could hide his true self at will, why shouldn't Aida? Was it even a lie to simply be invisible or to avoid answering a question? A splinter of bone broke off from the badger skull and jabbed Aida's finger, alerting her to how she had been subconsciously fidgeting with it non-stop.
Reawakening to her surroundings, Aida looked out over the dancers gliding around the ballroom. What was she doing here? In the distance, the gleam of a sparkling headband marked the presence of Dealla in her fringed flapper dress, presumably waiting for Zykeal. It did not take long for Aida to find Ileen either, who was entering with Erik and saying something excitedly to the boy. She did not see Sylvain, so perhaps he was at the other event. Would her friends be disappointed if they knew Aida was hiding alone in the corner, scheming about how she would learn the secret truths of others? What would they think if they knew the real reason Aida had come to the ball, and if they knew the terror Aida intended to propagate tonight using the power of the cloak?
It had all seemed so innocent at the time. She had wanted to laugh, and to see Alexander laugh. She wanted to bring him back the peace of mind he'd had in his ink-stained studious days when they would rant about Grindelwald and psychoanalyze the professors. No– not even that. She wanted even more: his peace of mind in recovering his lost years. Then maybe there would be no need for fake smiles. Maybe then he could be truly happy. Face twisting, Aida grew irritated with herself. How was her stupid prank supposed to make him happy, even for a moment, when she was still failing so hard at what was really eating him away?
The boning of Aida's corset began digging into her skin after she had squatted in one position for so long. Quietly standing up, the white witch surveyed the crowd again. She didn't know if it was okay to be doing this. However, she did know that she wanted to try to make him laugh. Succeed or fail, right or wrong, Aida had to try.

As they watched, a new and glorious sense of power began to percolate through the white witch. Concealed under this cloak surely Aida could overhear more honesty. Whatever people normally said behind the backs of others could be revealed. Though the ball's public environment was surely inhibiting people a lot now, Aida could see a thousand possibilities opening up before her: a realm of secret truths waiting to be illuminated.Aida's little friend:Reducio

"You did not answer me. Are you Aida ?" said a figure under a nearly full moon. A tear ran down his cheek and the earth beneath Aida's tremulous reality cracked open. Whether the boy was a demon, a hallucination, or truly Alexander, Aida had felt terrible for trying to hide herself from the creature. It clearly had hurt him, and in Aida's bones she knew. In reality, she had hurt Alexander. It was the same pain she felt in learning that he had hidden himself from her, as well.
“I am Aida. It was wrong of me to not answer you before,” she returned.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)

Ashlyn knew she made a mistake as soon as she walked in. She had expected some heads to turn at the sound of the door opening, but what she did not expect, was about 100 people, all staring at the new arrival. True, her hair was not it's natural light pink... She had replaced the all-to-familiar color with a bright red, but that was no reason for such commotion. She stood there awkwardly for a moment, searching for people that she had previously met, but it was no use. Finally, as people started to refocus on their friends or their dance partners, she decided to wander around, perhaps looking for even the slightest bit of creepy decoration. 'Isn't Halloween supposed to be creepy?', she thought to herself. As she made her way over to one of the many snack tables, she happened to notice a few bags lying next to the stage. 'Probably costumes... guess I'm not the only one splitting time', she thought before walking over and setting her own black bag down. On the inside lied a large shark onesie, which she planned to slip into later before she would walk with Kira to the costume party. After relocating the snack table, she put on her silver mask and grabbed a cupcake. She then proceeded to walk towards a wall on the far end of the room, somewhat near the door. A bit further down, she noticed a rather charming boy who seemed to be arguing with two girls. "Well,", she said to herself quietly, "at least they're being entertained...". With those words, she decided to wait for her partner to arrive, hoping that she wouldn't choose to stay in her dorm instead.

Hanako's Morifying Outfit:Reducio
[font=PT Sans]He looked - ridiculous. Absolutely mortifying. Halloween was not a big deal to him, even before the wizarding world came and crashed into his life. But when Percival mentioned he was going to come, well~. Who was he to turn that down? He had his butler back home to pick up an outfit without much thought into it- but wearing that said costume now, it would’ve been better if Hanako took at least 1 minute to think what he’d like to be. Now he’s just… a fish. A shark wannabe with scaly unnerving gloves that made it weird for him to touch anything. There was something much more terrifying in his pockets. However, that was only used when he decided he decided he didn’t want to look handsome anymore and just hide.
There were more good points at the moment. Like wearing a cool mask and this nice flowy fan. Fun to twirl and hit people for sure. Ah, wait no. He’s supposed to be nice now. Urgh, やれやれ. All the things he’s doing for Percival, honestly. He better make it up by being a good partner in this party. やれやれ=yare yare=how bothersome
Speaking of Percival, he was another good point to add. Mainly speaking, Opeila’s defeat in being Percival’s partner is. He couldn’t contain a mischievous smile just thinking about it. The glee that spreads through him was addictive. Hanging out and about with Opeila’s boyfriend while she stands alone feels marvelous. What a lovely future, indeed. She wasn’t here yet to see his achievement, but her annoying presence could be rivaled with that ghost cat over there. While the cat was not one that was covered in fur, seeing it’s ghostly presence pace the ballroom elegantly made him want to sneeze. A nuisance, he thought. Just like Opeila.
All he had to do was wait for Rainwood, who had oddly allowed Hanako to arrive earlier than him. Being a pureblood meant he had to re-check his appearance 10 times before going out, he guessed. It was no problem with the wait. He won this non-existent round between Opeila and him. Just standing here, twirling his flowy fan and glaring at the cat was enough to keep him entertained. He would’ve done more to fulfill that if someone approached him. Someone with a funny costume, he wished. One that allowed him to tease them just a bit before Dee caught him. He couldn’t help but fuel more to this growing fire in him named glee. It wouldn’t hurt to mess with someone...or maybe two~.

Melissa was in shock somebody was actually talking to her ,the girls outfit was different to what Melissa had seen it was very adventurous and unique outfit which was quit brave to wear at a school like this. 'Im Melissa nice to meet you'. As Melissa spoke she let out a small smirk to try and show that she was happy to be here. Felicia was her name she told Melissa and asked what She thought about the ball. 'yep the way they decorate it makes you feel so safe and pleased.
A phew moments later another girl came over, her dress was long and green with beautiful jewels over it. She asked Melissa and Felicia what they thought about the ball Melissa replied'Its the best thing I've ever seen to be honest where I come from the best thing I saw was probably the funeral place where my great grandma died Melissa smiled but had a Wicked feeling about this girl. why did she come up to us? Melissa thought she better keep an eye out to see if anything goes wrong with this girl and what it would be?

Some might call Callie's ability to annoy reclusive people into attending one of the biggest events of the year a talent but she would simply call it a necessity. How else was she meant to get Thomas and Elias to attend anyway? By offering them a choice? Don't be silly! Pestering the two boys into atttending was the only viable solution. Unfortunately she didn't exactly have a choice in which of the two balls she was attending which wasn't ideal since Callie regarded masquarade balls with mild discontent. If it were entirely up to her she would've attended wearing a full banana costume in order to honour the true spirit of Halloween. Instead Callie was wearing something she regarded as horrifying and an immense pain that she couldn't wait to burn into ash: a dress.
The outfit itself was a surprising deviation from Callie's usual attire and for once didn't have any chocolate stains decorating it. Instead of being pulled back out of the way Callie's hair sat in neat curls, a vast change for someone who usually put very little effort into her appearance. The thin black mask that graced Callie's face seemed to sit rather strangely, largely thanks to the presence of the glasses behind it. After all what was the point in wearing a mask if she couldn't see anyone around her? Thankfully she'd drawn the line at wearing makeup or any form of heels so her relatively fancy attire was completly destroyed by the presence of her usual dirty pair of converse. Not that she cared however as Callie was mainly out to eat as much sugar as she possibily could.
Unlike Thomas and Elias, Callie didn't at all mind her general lack of a date. If anything she hadn't at all noticed how many people seemed to be attending with dates and even then she didn't care in the slightest. She was out to have fun! Not be bogged down with a date all night, that stuff was for the old people incapable of joy. Eventually Callie managed to free herself from a rather boring conversation off to the side of the room and immediately bounded over to Thomas once she spotted the lonesome soul by the table. The fact he was standing beside the refreshments was simply a bonus..not at all the main reason she decided to come over....right? "Surprise!" She exclaimed with a wide grin upon arrival, greeting Thomas with a light hand to the shoulder. "You look great! Who knew you had the capacity to dress kind of handsomely? Not me, that's for sure!" Callie chimed as she tossed a handful of jellybeans into her mouth. "Wait is that Elias?" She squinted at the approaching figure, not entirely recognising the pair. "Ah it can't be..Elias doesn't talk to THAT many people! Heck, he was freaking out about not having a date just the other day! How stupid is that?" Callie waved off the very idea that the figure could've been Elias, largely because she was struggling to see from beneath the mask. "Ooh is that Rosie over there?" Callie questioned, still struggling to see from behind the mask she was starting to regard as annoying. "Sorry if I ask that question a lot by the way, it's kinda hard to see from behind this stupid mask! I should've went as a banana instead... we share half our DNA with bananas actually! Isn't that cool? It was as if I was destined to be a banana this fine night..but alas! Thomas Baines said no!"
Action: Rambling about bananas, making fun of Elias. You know, the usual.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
Now this was bizarre. Tina had been quick to leave the alternative option of 'Costume Party', and regretted it the moment she set foot in the magnificent, gothic ballroom, where the Masquerade was being hosted. Children not much older than her were wrapped up in their graceful dances, moving to the beat of the dramatic waltz track that was being played by the live orchestra. If Tina had thought the dresses and masks at the other event extravagant, everyone here was on another level. She'd never felt like a sore thumb more in her entire life. She should never have shown up, dammit!
She slid through the door sideways, not wanting the sides of her moon costume to graze the other (significantly more regal looking) guests that were passing through. She didn't expect any of her muggle friends back home would be treated to a reception as grand and as formal as this. Part of her wondered what kinds of eleven year olds enjoyed this sort of activity - maybe the ultra rich ones - but she didn't question it. She didn't want to stand out anymore than she already did.
Now, onto her main reason of being here; where was Starlee Kennedy?
After abandoning her friend as a result of their mismatched costumes and argument that followed, Tina had gone off to do her hair and make up alone. She figured this would be a harsh-enough punishment to make the other girl understand how much she'd upset her - no, Tina was not going to admit this was an accident, Starlee had made her costume prettier on purpose - whilst still ensuring that she attended the ball. Surely, she wouldn't skip the whole thing at this point. She's probably want to show off her gorgeous, star embroidered costume, even if just to rub salt in sore wounds. Yeah, selfish cow.
The Hufflepuff made quiet grumbling noises as she weaved through the guests, sharp, dark eyes peering through the crowds, searching for the snake. She was pretty short compared to everyone else, a result of her mother's genes she reasoned, though it was impossible to be stealthy in a costume as wide and eye-catching as hers. It also felt a little embarrassing to be one of the few unmasked people in a party that had a major focus on masks, but this was the least of her worries. "Stupid stupid balls," she mumbled furiously, working herself up even more. "Stupid stupid- oof!"
How cliché. Tina had bumped into someone - a masked stranger no less. She looked up, her face a mixture of fury and humiliation.
"I'm SORRY, okay?" she blurted out, a blubbering mess. She had said it as though the stranger was looking at her with incredulous anger, expecting an apology, but he wasn't. In fact, his face seemed to be twisted into one of pure glee. That was much worse. Officially, Tina was ready to cry. "Don't look at me!" she snapped, clasping her arms over her moon costume in shame.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
Interacting with: @Andrew Vance (Jayden Holt), @Elias Weare @Valerie Baines @Callie Jensen
Thomas' spine steeled upon realizing that his grumblings were overheard, and he spun on his heel to confront the person who spoke to him. Upon further realizing that the individual who spoke up was a stranger, his nerves only furthered. Typically not one to be anxious in social situations, instead just awkward at worst, the young wizard was unsure of how to handle the feelings for a few moments. Perhaps it was just the environment he was in, but for the first time in quite awhile his pride did not operate on autopilot to save the day. It appeared that Tommy would have to navigate a conversation without the help of his ego... Yikes.
"Er, uh, hello. Not looking for anyone really," Thomas cringed, way to make yourself seem like a loser, Baines, "Just trying to pass the time. I was wondering if I'd see anyone I'd recognize." Rather than address the stranger's first comments, he instead opted to push the conversation forward, hoping that his nervousness wasn't too plain as day. "My name's Thomas, Thomas Baines. You're not from Hogwarts, are you...?" He didn't want to assume, but the distinct American accent that the girl had did lead him to believe that she might've been from Ilvermorny. Then again, perhaps she was just raised by American parents. Tommy knew of a few people like that at Hogwarts. Oh jeez, he hoped that she didn't take offense to the question.
As Elias approached, calling out his name, Tommy forced down the instinctive reaction to cast Flipendo in the boy's direction. The two had gotten into a physical altercation just a month prior, and ever since then, Thomas had been building up pent-up aggression towards the boy at a far greater rate. Still, since there were professors milling about at every corner, and since Thomas had just been engaging with a stranger, he offered the boy a strained smile instead. "Oh, hello Eli. So... Happy to see you here." Upon further noticing the fact that he appeared to have a girl with him, Thomas' anger mildly deflated. This was embarrassing. "Who's your friend...?"
Saved by the bell, however, another of his friends intervened just in time. As Callie approached, Thomas relaxed. The girl had a profound effect on his anxieties, and despite the fact that many may have found her rambling to be obnoxious, he greatly appreciated it. It filled the open air that was left by his own awkwardness and conversational lapses, and as such Thomas made an effort to answer all of her questions, though he made no move to acknowledge the compliment on how sharply he was dressed. "That is Elias, he appears to have brought a date with him. That's also Rosie, the Hufflepuff girl you like so much. As for the other party, well... I couldn't think of anything! Getting dressed nicely is sooo much easier than having to think of a costume."
Action: Continuing to stand near the refreshments like a weirdo, chatting idly.
