Jean-Papi ignored the questions and remarks of the Professors next to him. He felt numb, hollow and lonely. These monstrocities had faked the voices of his own flesh and blood. They had used his very own fear and hope, his daditude against him. He shouldn't have had hopes of finding his children in this godforsaken place of all places. Why, oh why would they be here? They weren't even old enough to attend Hogwarts. Even through all this logic JP felt a sharp pain in his heart as he heard one of the vile creatures call out to him: "Poor Papa... Come to die!". A tear was rolling down his cheek and as quickly as it was there the Frenchman wiped it away with the back of his hand.

As the newly appointed nurse looked from where the voice came he noticed a tall, slender, monstrous looking, the stuff that fueled one's nightmares stand there as it was illuminated by the spell it had thrown at the Professors. Even though the spell came for them JP held his ground. If it was mere luck or if the hag just hadn't aimed for him he couldn't say for sure, but he steeled himself as he knew what he had to do. Immediately he pressed on the secret button of his umbrella causing a small sword to appear at the tip and gripped the hilt of his wand tighter in his other hand. The man with the moustache pointed his wand at the creature before making a slash movement as he thought the incantation: Sectumsempra!.

As if all of this wasn't enough JP ran towards the creature with his umbrella. DIE YOU FOUL CREATURE! RESSENTIR LA COLÈRE D'UN PÈRE!*

*Ressentir la colère d'un père! = Feel a father's wrath!

Action: Casting non-verbally Sectumsempra at the hag on the edge of the left hallway. Running after the hag. A father's wrath activated.

Outfit:
JP is outfitted with an umbrella where his wand is stored. At the hilt of his wand there was an ornate piece of a silver vulture with spread wings which depicted the Dupont family crest. However, it wasn’t any ordinary umbrella. Out of its tip there could appear a small blade when he pressed a button. The French man wears a black costume with feather motives as well as a 17th century ruff around his neck.

The dark was dense and completely blinding. Even with the fading flame behind them, something which Artemis would need to thank Pendrast for later, giving off a bit of light, the man couldn't see anything in front of him. He could barely see his partner next to him. Initially, he wanted to come in here and shake the crazy woman for blindly running after the caretaker...but that wouldn't have been fair. Artemis, though he did tend to think before he acted, had just done the same thing for Hjørdis. And he would most likely do the same thing again for any of his colleagues. He would just a bit more cautious. However, it most likely would have been too late if Artemis' brain were allowed to think of the possibilities to get out of this situation.

He couldn't really blame Hjørdis for running into the wall. He just did the same bloody thing for Cara moments ago when he was dragged into the darkness. His childhood friend would have always come first...second after his own children and sister. Why should the Slytherin Queen have to think more clearly when she clearly had a fondness of friendship for the new caretaker?

Noticing the flame that Pendrast had sent through was fading fast, Artemis waved his own wand and hoped to be able to re-create the same flame with the same intensity. "Caeruleus Inflamarae", he muttered into the darkening, small area that the two professors were standing in. He didn't wish to speak louder in case something reached out of the darkness and grabbed the two intruders. If he was lucky enough, his spell would be just as strong as his colleague's was. A small gesture was caught in the corner of the man's eye coming from the direction of the woman next to him. He didn't see it before he said his spell, but maybe it was just a way for her to silently ask him to say the spell again. She must have had the same idea that he did about not wanting to be too loud in this corridor. This didn't even feel like it belonged to Hogwarts anymore. It felt...abnormal. It definitely didn't belong in this world. The darkness was oppressing. It was...concerning. And what of their third companion?

What happened to Marcus? He wasn't where they were, which meant that the two professors would have to venture into even more darkness to get to him. He knew that something was different about the man and he had hoped that the strength that he could feel coming off of him was good enough to help him if he did happen to find himself in trouble. But the only way for Artemis to find out about their partner was to move ahead.

Into the darkness.

He looked at Hjørdis and gave her a nod that he was ready when she was.

"Yes. Follow me." Caradoc's gaze was cold and serious. Looking around the hallway he had just been cleaved down minutes earlier, he swallowed nervously. These bloody hags had given him so much misery already. He had survived them in the woods alongside Zahid and Price, and he had helped Alaric retrieve his children from the dolls and the acromantula. Part-giants invading the ballroom, two common rooms breached, it did not seem to end. He knew the message was not far off. He recalled it well, the screams of his students he could hear through the walls. Their little group of professors was not too far off.

The Head of Hufflepuff would lead those who followed into the hallway and would stop by the wall he knew to be fake. Reaching his hand along the wall, he'd eventually find the hole that was hidden by an illusion. "Appare Vestigium." He'd quietly cast as his eyes knew where to look for the hidden message. It might not have been much, but he was certainly hoping it would deliver. If deciphering this wasn't worth it, they always had hags to hunt. His gaze trailed towards the darkness the hallway led to. Worry filled his mind and heart as his thoughts kept bringing him back to one person. Maybe he should have gone with. He should have been loyal and true, like a badger would.

Yet something still felt off about all this. He just couldn't pin down what it was. "Zahid, can you make anything out?" His voice would almost sound desperate. His nerves pushing him to go look for the others. "I don't know what the others will encounter down there, I'm positive they could use our help." His eyes fell upon the suits of armour scattered along the sides. Ideas came to mind, but he did not know if he had the time.

The Kibitzer train came to a screeching halt as a spell shot past her allies and struck the floor beneath her. What a time to be spacing out - obviously the woman hadn't had her fifth cup of tea this morning. She was drawn back to reality by the sudden lack of a floor beneath her. "Oh, damn it-" she shouted, reacting with shock and indignant rage at both the attack on her person as well as the revealing of the shoddy craftsmanship of the castle. One spell can knock away the floors? Isn't this a school for magic? It's a wonder the place hadn't crumbled to dust if this is what the foundations looked like.

Below, she caught her breath, recovering from the sudden movement and looking up at the faint light above. She was missing the action. "I'm alive!" she shouted, although she doubted anyone had stopped to check. Hadn't even been here a year and she was going to be their first casualty. Pity. But she still had her wand, at least. A fighting chance if she could play it smart, although she wouldn't bet on outplaying a hag in the dungeons.

"Lumos," she muttered, holiding hard wand out like a torch to try and get her bearings and see if there was any way she could lift herself back up. Maybe that new flying professor could play taxi. The alternative plan was simply to sling spells at the walls until she burrowed her way to the surface, which would work if the craftsmanship of the floors was any indication.

For all that no one had said much of anything in response to him, Caradoc suddenly seemed incapable of not chattering on. Zahid blinked in surprise and tried to interject a couple of times with agreement, but his friend natttered on. Shaking his head with an exasperated smile, Zahid made his way over.

He wasn't the best with runes, but studying history had taught him enough so that he should be able to make sense of them. “Sure, I can take a look.”, he finally agreed when Caradoc had to pause to take a breath. He was a bit surprised when Caradoc seemed to suddenly turn completely serious again but then he thought that he shouldn't be surprised. The quick talking had probably been Caradoc's adrenaline speaking, and now he was once again more settled. (Maybe, it was not like he could see inside the man's head.)

Following the Head of House down the corridor, he ignored the suits of armours he would not be wearing. They were already too noisy for such an endeavor, adding in metal clanking was just a recipe for further disaster. Instead he quickly checked to see whether or not the Care Professor was also following before turning to the area Caradoc pointed out for him to look over runes. at least I think he's pointing the runes out? Might've misunderstood though

“Lumos.”

He leaned a bit closer to get a better look.

As he approached the boiling cauldron, Marcus took note of the small clothes that littered the floor. Did they belong to students? There was no way that students could have gone missing and there wouldn't be a report about it... right? As far as he knew, there had been no student deaths so far, but.. Well, the moment he was within range of the cauldron, he smelled it. It seemed his olfactory senses were getting a workout today, because this was another new smell. Boiling flesh. Human flesh. He wanted to gag but the lack of a mouth continued to hinder his body's reflexes.

Marcus' sense of smell continued to be his best friend, though, as it alerted him to the presence of another. The hag. He turned on his heel in time to defend himself as the creature lunged at him from up above. Their arms locked and the momentum she had from her leap pushed him back against the cauldron. He felt his back heating up immensely to the point of discomfort and near pain. She was strong, he could tell that much, but so was he. His amber eyes had no choice but to stare at her hideous features as they grappled with each other. Such a hideous visage, blue in color and lacking so many teeth. Old and wrinkly. And her breath was... overwhelming.

Marcus shifted his foot to be behind hers then pushed against her with all of his might, trying to trip her to the ground and land on top of her. He had a very particular plan in mind and grappling her until she was immobilized on the ground meant he would have a better chance of ending her here and now. Ivar was crouched down on the ground as he let the head of his axe brush over the bones lining the wall. At first they looked innocent enough, rats and other small critters, but he also spotted bones which seemed to come from larger animals, like cats. Ivar could feel an uneasy feeling in his stomach when he spotted a few bones that seemed human, but smaller than a grown man, bones from children? But he hadn’t heard about any disappearances at school lately so how old were these bones? Ivar let the Muggles studies professor walk away without a word. Instead giving a short prayer to the magic for whoever owned these bones to have passed away quickly and easily.

When he was done with the prayer he finally stood up again. Ivar looked around himself, seeing the last glimpse of Maya disappearing in the darkness ahead, but decided to wait for the last professors in the back to catch up before going further.
Ivar wasn’t a coward, but he thought it would be smarter to stick with a group than walk further alone. It also gave him time to look at his surroundings, although he couldn’t see much of interest. The walls was old, and didn’t seem to have been tended to in ages, the bones on the ground, the darkness clinging to every corner, seemingly unwilling to let go. A couple of professors was walking closer to him from the back, and behind them… A cat?

Ivar tilted his head to the side as he watched the cat. What was a cat doing here? No cat Ivar had known would walk around in what could be called a pet cemetery. There were literally cat bones lining the walls…
The Care of Magical Creatures professor could hear the voices of the other professors as they walked up to him, but he was tuning them out, instead focusing on his own internal monologue. What would a cat be doing in a dungeon? Cats had well tuned survival instincts, and this place was practically screaming danger. Not only that… but those eyes, was that intelligence he had glimpsed in them? Just for a second he was sure he had seen something.

The sounds of footsteps snapped Ivar back to reality again. A intrigued grin grew from his glazed expression.

“Petrificus Totalus”
Ivar said as he whipped his wand up in the direction of the cat. Ivar wanted to take a closer look at whatever he had caught in its eyes earlier.

Letting go of all her earthly tethers, the dark sorceress would try and try, but the mythical fire she wished to conjure would not come. Sparks would fly off her wand, yet none stuck around to catch fire on the torch. Be it failing concentration or just dumb luck holding her back, she was unable to succeed for now. While her intent was well-placed, her surroundings did not halt. The crackling of stone would come from underneath, as the tiles under her feet started falling apart. The hole Kibitzer had disappeared in grew larger, trying to consume all who stood around its gaping mouth. @Aleksander Ostrowski would step back into the hall he came from and save himself a nasty fall. Same as @Kateri Karr and @Elaine Pendrast who both got separated from the rest in the left hallway, having only a charging nurse behind their backs as they stared into the void they sought to escape. @River Jemari was cut off from all the others as he found his escape into the right hall, though his spell had been successful. They could feel comfort in their extra layer of defence.

Except none of them were able to save @Maya Galim, who stumbled and lost her balance. With what was likely surprise in her eyes, the Muggle Studies professor would tumble backwards joining @Rosalind Kibitzer below. The latter of the two had already managed to pull herself up in the dirt. Her elderly claws digging deep into the earth as she mustered all her strength to escape the gaping mouth of mother nature. And indeed it would seem to be a mouth, as the dirt slowly but steadily tried to lock itself onto Rosalind's body and suck her back down. But both Rosalind and Maya managed to keep pulling themselves free from the sticky earth... for now.

~The Entrance~

At the start of all this, several things happened at once back near the entrance to these long forgotten tunnels. Like a well-oiled machine the three professors in search of the runic message began their search. @Gargott Dunaid's light quickly lit up the hall enough for their entire party to see, whilst Caradoc's spell revealed the writing on the wall he had laid eyes upon months ago. With a lit wand, @Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud would find it easy to read the cryptic message on the stone walls. Whether he would understand what the message was for, was an entirely different question. Regardless of the answer, the old scholar would have time to save the writing in his mind.

Veering just forty-to-fifty feet back, @Ivar Eide would have stayed behind. Devoting his attention instead on the mysterious cat. A cat with intelligence behind its eyes. It seemed to know more. While the goblin groundskeeper may have laughed earlier as he let the innocent animal pass, there seemed to be more going on. The Norse professor left nothing open to chance however as his wand shot up and tried to petrify the cat. As he perhaps could have expected however, the evasive pet slipped past his curse with little effort and quickly made sure to leave the hallway upstairs. It seemed it had absolutely no intention to stick around as it got blasted by curses by strangers.

Eventually, as Ivar moved his foot, either to reset his balance or try to chase the animal, he would feel something latching on to him. If his gaze turned downwards, he would see it. In his distraction, several bones had started to twist and roll back into place. Re-attaching themselves magically until a full set of skeleton arms was trying to hold the CoMC professor down. Soon, the rattling of bones would rapidly fill the entire hallway as skeleton after skeleton started to reassemble. As the first latched out to Ivar, he'd quickly duck out of the way. Shrugging the one on the ground off was easy, but he would be surrounded in a split second. Both Caradoc and Gargott would notice the rattling sounds immediately as well, forming a line around Zahid as he studied the message. The unlikely pair of Hufflepuffs managed to fend off both their attackers with ease, pushing them back right away as they came storming towards them. Zahid had to shuffle out of the way as one skeleton tried to grapple him. It seemed they were going to have to stand their ground here... and help would have to wait for the others.

~The Tunnel~

There were two who did not wait for help. @Hjørdis Jensen and @Artemis Vernatis both knew what was waiting for them down there. With elegant perfection Nora would swirl her wand around her own figure, leaving barely a trace left for anyone to see her in the dark. Eventually she would tap her wand on Artemis' head, the cold sensation of an egg being cracked on top would slowly drip over his entire body. She had successfully concealed them both from anyone's vision. The Charms professor in turn offered them light, to replace the slowly dimming fire from Elaine as her attention shifted to other matters. Blue flames would light up the round pit that was staring back at them. Time to dive in.

Haste was required, their friend did not have long. Time was running short for @Marcus Iwasaki. How long could a man without a mouth continue to fight with control. He was right, he needed to get a firm hold on his adversary, and he needed it now. With wits and strength, the Caretaker effortlessly managed to trip the hag onto the ground. A loud crack could be heard as her back fell upon the hard floor. Marcus would lunge at her, fighting for dominance. She would cast a spell right back at him, aiming for his face once more. The swirl of magic would pass his ear by a stroke of luck, him being too late to notice it. Yet luck appeared to be on his side today. Alas, he seemed to underestimate his opponent. Was that arrogance in the air? In his surprise, Marcus would feel something latch onto him. Like a whip it would curl around his chest and shoulders and pull him up within the blink of an eye. The roots that had been dangling from the cavern's ceiling were alive.

In a loud and guttural sound, a laugh would sprout from underneath him as he hung in the air. "Oh, poor dearie... You are still very much outmatched." The grin on her face would widen once more whilst her deep yellow eyes would fixate on him. "It seems I caught m'self a little pupper, ey? I've always wondered what dog would taste like." Her face had turned to anger and disgust. She would spit in the air towards him before turning her head behind her. "Hmm... it seems your friends are late... but they'll come." Her finger would point towards him as she slowly shuffled closer to his position...

~The Left Hallway~

Some other man in trouble would undeniably be @Jean-Papi Dupont, just a few floors above. Firing a spell right back at the being at the end of the corridor, he'd see the figure duck out of the way at incredible speed. Vengeance would be on his lips. With a bladed umbrella in one hand and his wand in the other, the Hogwarts nurse would charge forward. The fact he was leaving the others behind or forfeited his own safety never crossed his mind. This was blind rage coming straight at the old crone. His slender figure would sprint forward as an old crone stepped forward. Her grin evil, her eyes demonic. "Lets see if you can see this coming!" She cried out as she raised her hand and straightened two fingers together, pointing them at him as if she would snap a whip. "AVADA KEDAVRA!"

Image posted by the member

Panicking inside, with a long jump to the side, Jean-Papi stretched both arms and his entire upper body in one long line and making himself as thin as possible in the hag's direct line of sight. In just one flash, he could feel the spell breeze past his stomach and impact behind him in the stone. The nurse had escaped death, barely. The old crone's eyes would widen as she saw the raging man run closer and dodge her spell. He was getting too close for her liking. With panic plastered on her face, the hag would hold out something in her hand and shout into it. "Etta! I need help! NOW!"

~The Hag's Lair~

Looking towards his opponent back below, Marcus would notice the shift in the hag before him. She'd look at something in her hand. "Be quiet, Hattie! I'll handle it right away." Her eyes shifted between her hand and her prey hanging from the ceiling. Something in her gaze cracked, she was done playing. It was time for something. "It took risk to corner him, I'm sure. But I can feel his tainted blood walking the halls up above. The same blood that is now boiling through your veins!" She cried out to the Caretaker. "At least your friends will have a pretty face to stare at as they die by your hands." With that, she raised both her hands upwards. Slowly she started swaying them around and around. Her eyes went white, vibrant green magic began to crackle along her wrists. Her voice echoed through the cavern and into the hallways. The ground trembled underneath her feet.

After just seconds, Marcus' head would begin to boil. Something was trying to get in. Pressure, immense.... pressure would set itself loose upon his mind. As if someone was trying to split it open and gain access. He would scream like he never had before in pain as he tried blocking off his thoughts from her grasp. Until finally... silence. "RAAAAH! Too soon! Too damn soon!" The hag's fury would cause the boiling cauldron to steam up spontaniously. Marcus had successfully fended off the effects of his tainted blood. A curse that was resting inside him. But there was another cursed man who had come along with the party...

~The Entrance/middle hallway~

Caradoc could feel it burn through him instantly. His mind practically crumbled under the sheer amount of pressure splitting open his mind. Screaming in agony his hands wrapped themselves around his head as he twisted and turned to try and shake it off. He'd pay no mind to the skeletons anymore, even pushing one aside in his wild swings. The Head of Hufflepuff fell to his knees as his mind gave up. There was no victory in his fight. He could only surrender, succumb to the soothing sleep he was offered by the warm voice inside his head. And then there was anger. These people, they did not belong here. They were disturbing the peace. Why were they looking to bother poor Auntie Etta and her sisters? Zahid would see it first as Caradoc raised his head. His bright blue eyes briefly turning a bright pink until they finally settled into a deep purple. "You. You don't belong here... Get. OUT!"

Everyone would fail to notice in time, as with a flash of rage Caradoc would slam his one hand down onto Zahid's throat. Latching his fingers onto his neck, locking them as tight as he could. Simulataneously, his left hand swung out from under his coat and snapped its fingers. "Deprimo!" His voice would hiss as Gargott instantly would feel the ground give in under his feet, finding himself falling into a hole.

She exhaled softly as she saw his nod. They were agreed. Into the tunnel they would go. It was not much of a plan but it was the best they had, given how little time they actually had to waste. Swirling her wand around, she cast the spell over herself before repeating the same over her colleague. Both started to fade away within moments. Right. It was time. Without delay, she turned and rushed into the tunnel with the Charms Professor.

Focusing on the task at hand - finding Marcus, who seemed to be a lot further in than the other side of the wall - Hjørdis ignored the fact that this entire area was disgusting. Bones, dirt, insects, everything... None of this was pleasant. Especially not for a woman who actively scrubbed things clean multiple times. If they got out this alive and managed to get the hags out... these dungeons really required a good scrub or five hundred. They were filthy. The hags had really settled in, it would appear. If there wasn't a much more important task at hand, she might have thrown some cleaning spells around. But she was much more focused on the missing person.

She tried to be quiet as she moved, careful not to make any verbal noises or to try and avoid her feet making noises as they moved. However, getting there was a bigger priority. If she was correct, the hags likely knew where they were - and that they were coming - anyway. The disillusionment charm had very little chance of success if her theory was correct but she was betting everything on that very small chance. If it managed to throw the monsters off for even a moment, confuse them a little, make them hesitate or throw their aim off a little, it was worth it.

At this point, everything that could go wrong seemed to be going wrong. But if they kept getting back up and moving forward, eventually, it would be alright, right? Using the little light that they had prepared, she continued down the tunnel gripping her wand - waiting for something to happen. Hell, at this point, any part of the walls of the tunnel itself could have been an illusion. She had no idea. But if she could see anything that would help, she would use it. If she could hear the hags screaming at each other or Marcus, she would follow the sound. If the smell in the air changed, she would follow her nose - trying not to gag. If she couldn't hear or smell or see anything different, she would just use what she had and try to get to him as quickly as possible.

She had no idea how long she had been moving but she sneaked in to the best of her ability as quickly as possible until the scene started to change. The end of the tunnel was less of an endless pit. She slowed down, quiet as possible. They had to be quiet for this to work. Hjørdis approached the entrance of a cave - Marcus! Her eyes quickly searched the scene, till it landed on the creature not too far away from him. A hag...

She had to get Marcus down from the ceiling. But first thing's first, she had to separate the monster from the caretaker. If her theory was wrong earlier, she would get a second or two before the rotten creature could react. That would have to be enough. Blow her up? Immobilise her movements? Avada her before she had a chance to react?

"When you see a hag, drop her into a pit."

The words echoed in her mind. Taking it perhaps too literally, Hjørdis flicked her wand, "Deprimo," She would mutter, pointing at the floor beneath the hag. She saw the hag, she was doing what she was told. At least one of them listened to the other!

The redheaded goblin had followed his colleagues whilst lighting the way. When on one moment everything was fine and as far as could be 'safe' the next moment it wasn't. As soon as the Professor of History of Magic had started to study the runes from up close it had seemed they were being surrounded by reanimated skeletons. Luckily Gargott couldn't have been in better company as his longtime friend Caradoc was right beside him. It was reassuring that you had a person you knew who had your back next to you. As Caradoc Browne was as good as they came, would do everything to save his friends.

Holding back the first of the attackers. Gargott wanted Bernice to start cracking some bones, yet before he could even land the first swing he heard his friend yell: Deprimo. Before the Groundskeeper could react the stone tiles had parted from underneath his feet and the Scott would land face-first on the cold, floor. Gargott's nose had never been his most prised esthetic, but by now it started to resembled more the image of a mashed potato rather than a nose. The Nurse had only mere moments ago broken it and now tears started to fill his eyes and blood started to once again dripping from his nose.

Sturdy hands were placed on the floor as he tried to regain his footing. Which wasn't easy with all of the armor he wore. "Maybe this armor wasn't such a good idea after all." The goblin muttered under his breath. As he stood back up he took in his surroundings. A pit had formed where he had stood and he was at the bottom of it. The average adult would have to stretch his arms to reach for the edge and even then it would still prove to be quite the herculean task. But Gargott's heritage made that option impossible. Proud as he was for it, today it proved to be more of an inconvenience.

Zahid was in danger, before he was taken out of the heat of battle, the groundkeeper had seen Caradoc grip Zahid. He didn't know the man, yet the group had come here with a common goal to eradicate the evil that had made its home in the Dungeons and Zahid was at this moment their best bet on stopping them. Gloved hands were placed on the walls surrounding him to feel for a weakness so he could smash his way out of this hole. It didn't take long for Gargott to realize that there wasn't a structural weakness he could exploit and it would just be on sheer luck.

Fingers clenched as he took the shaft of Bernice to start the job. But all he gripped was... Air. Eyes grew wide, breathing stocked, face turning more red than normal as a feeling of unease, no, fear settled deep within the gut of the rotund man. "N-No! Bernice where are you? BERNICE!" Looking down as to where the Warhammer could be, he couldn't find it. Gargott felt naked without the Warhammer especially in a time like this. How had he managed to lose his grip on the one thing he cherished the most?! "Hold on Bernice! I'll come for you! J-Just hold on! I-I'll think of something." The man started to pull on the ends of his mustache. "Think Gargott, think! Come on dammit! There must be a way out of this! You have magic for Ragnuk's sake!" His thoughts no longer his own and reason (saving Zahid) had left his mind. Thoughts of dread and horrible images of foul creatures like hags and skeletons soiling the cool, silver of Bernice was all he could think of.

Snapping his fingers as a solution dawned upon him. Not giving it a second thought as Bernice was in danger and there was no time of thinking of something else he prepared himself. The left hand disappeared in his pocket and the galleon he had stowed away once he had entered the dungeons now reappeared in his hand. Once again he licked the coin. "By the craft of Urgruff let me be on time!" A deep breath left his lungs and his head tilted back as he looked upwards. His left arm, with the coin, firmly gripped between index finger and thumb, raised as he thought. "Ascendio!"
