As he walked down the hall that was illuminated by candlelight on his way to the masquerade, Eyre had an air of confidence that he hadn't been feeling in a long time. Tonight was his first proper school ball, a milestone in the eyes of most young wizards. He'd been dragged to pureblood balls in the past because of his family, but they were always pretty miserable for him.

It was different for him this time around, though. Instead of being in a ballroom with a bunch of people that he didn't give a damn about, tonight he was going to be surrounded by friends with his pretty girlfriend on his arm. Not only that, but he actually thought he looked pretty handsome in his black tux with a spray of red beading draped down his chest and arm. After nearly two months of being miserable, today was his day that he was going to let loose.

It was crowded in the ballroom, the sound of murmuring from the other students being accentuated by the sound of ghostly strings. He didn't pry Rose on what she was wearing before the ball as he wanted it to be a surprise when he did see her. And, when he finally found her, he thanked his lucky stars that he'd made that decision because she was absolutely stunning.

Eyre made eye contact with her and grinned, moving past everyone so he could get to her. As soon as he did, he took her hands in his as he dragged his eyes up her body, taking in her whole outfit.

"Wow..." Eyre breathed, laughing a bit. "You.... You look absolutely breathtaking, Rosie." He blushed up to his ears at his choice of a compliment, looking at her with adoring eyes. He leaned in ever-so-slightly as if he were about to kiss her, before snapping out of it before he could, his face turning as red as her dress.

"Do you want to dance?"

"I’ve always loved dancing barefoot. My mother and I used to dance around in the gardens for hours when I was younger," said Sarah, starting to dance as skillfully as ever. Paisley nodded, feeling her mask slip down the bridge of her nose. Pushing it back up, she realized she had been doing a lot of the talking. She immediately put for a solution to fix it.

"What's life like at home for you, outside of school?" Paisley asked, tilting her head to the side in curiosity. The orchestra music that had been so loud before slowly faded into simple background noise, and all her attention turned to Sarah. She managed to narrowly miss stepping on her dance partner's foot, but she quickly recovered, and continued to glide across the dance floor smoothly.

When more and more students started to arrive, Paisley felt the room become significantly warmer. She thought of a teapot, filled to the brim with boiling water. It wasn't that there were too many people, but it was loud, and she was quiet most of the time, so it was odd to her ears. She had never been to a party this big before, because she had never had a reason too. The only comparison to this was the family reunions, but no one there danced or played orchestra music.

She glanced around, seeming to be pulled out of a deep trance. She caught sight of someone she knew...someone she had seen before...and it all came rushing back to her. She was a monster, and so were they. Not normal, hide under your bed and eat you at night monsters, werewolves. Animals that howled to the moon, tearing apart the flesh of innocent humans unless they drank a potion to stop it.

Her face was reserved after that, and her dancing was hesitant, as if holding back. How come no matter what I do, or how wonderful I feel, it always has to be spoiled? Why can't I just let myself be happy...

October came back so quickly. Last year's Masquerade Ball felt like it was yesterday. The heat of the fire, the sounds of the half-giants... It baffled her that the Heads of Houses were alright for another celebration to take place at the same time, same place. The ballroom, restored back to its beauty was redecorated in horror for tonight's event.

The heels of her boots echoed as she made her way down the hall and towards the already-started celebration. Maya did not necessarily enter the ballroom right away. Instead, she stayed by the entrance and looked around, seeing what the environment was like. So far, it was relaxing. Everyone was dancing and mingling with each other. In addition, she could tell that there were no professors that entered the room just yet. She would have been the first one and the thought of that made her stay in her place a little longer.

Maya was not wearing her signature outfit: her red cloak. She left it behind. The point of the masquerade was to hide oneself from others. If she wore it, everyone would know who she was in an instant. Instead, she wore a black bodysuit. Her face was clear with just a simple black mask and her hair was tied back. She wanted to blend in the best she could.

Maya finally walked in, but stayed by the door. She kept her eyes open and her mind alert, supervising the students around her. Whatever was to happen... If anything was about to happen, Maya was at the ready.

[font=Monotype Corsiva]"I'm sure you know me well enough by now to know that neither of those options are particularly my cup of tea, but as per usual I am bored so at least the second choice would force me to focus on something"
He replied in a jeering tone.
Wait... Did he just inadvertently suggest that they dance? He supposed that he had, but he just meant as a joke and it was a completely empty "offer"... Right?
His facial expression then shifted to one that was genuinely confused by his own statement and what it meant but it was not visible due to the fact that that half of his face covered by his mask.

He honestly didn't know how to go about this arrangement. His parents had not done something like this to him before so therefore he had no clue how to act. He didn't have much time to ponder though as he heard someone address and pull him out of his puzzling thoughts.

"I know, excellent with both" Enzo called out to Charles before his judgmental eyes landed on him and his date's hands intertwined. He stifled a laugh while he rose an eyebrow but it was concealed once again by the dark mask he had fastened over his face. His gaze wasn't on them for too long though as he quickly averted his attention back towards Lana but this time he glanced over at her friend. Enzo eyed her friend for a couple of seconds but purposely chose not to introduce himself or say anything to them for that matter.

Henry couldn't help himself to look around, from the decor to the people there. It was surprising how many people he knew and how many of his friends attended the dance also. He smiled at Miranda but couldn't help but glance over at his best friend; Logan who was alone. Henry then spotted Cash and Rose both also alone but he could have swore they both had dates, which was true for one of them since he saw Eyre approach Rose which almost made Henry roll his eyes at the boy. Then where were was Cash's? Henry then looked over to the entrance of the ballroom and thought he saw Heather, was she alone to? Henry felt bad for his friends and others he knew even slightly that were there alone. Even through he didn't know it and would probably deny it, his most fatal flaw is friendship.

Henry tried to focus on Miranda but it was hard knowing that so many people he knew were there alone, Henry against his better nature and thoughts would smile to Miranda and say " would you like to dance then Miranda?" He looked at the area where a people were dancing before turning back to Miranda and saying " I'm not a great dancer but if you like we can.

Charles smile at Cassie when she seem a bit confused or upset by his wording so he spoke again " my mother was just in charge of dying my hair, it was really my father and grandfather who wanted it dyed black to match with the others," Charles then heard her comment about it being a bit sexist and again he reassured her " it's not really sexist, more like genetic. Females can be born with black hair but it was more common for males to be born with black and females blonde. But there are always other factors or oddities, like me or a few cousins I met for the first time over the summer holiday," Charles remembered his meeting with his cousins and at that point he saw one of them. Henry Knight; one of his cousins he met for the first time and as Charles watched the boy with his date, he couldn't help but think the two come from different lives and are different in personalities. Charles then heard Enzo reply to him and couldn't help but reply back " I should consider you lucky then Enzo," Charles laughed a bit before continuing " I hope to catch a drink with you and your date later Enzo."

Charles was taken from his thoughts and conversation with Enzo, when Cassie said he didn't trust him in which he laughed " I don't blame you, I wouldn't even trust myself," Charles then led Cassie to the dance floor and turned to face her before speaking again " dancing is easy, you mainly just have to relax and listen to the music," Charles moved his hands to her waist before saying " my hands would normally go here while yours would go on my shoulders," Charles then begun to sway back and front to the music as he whispered to Cassie " let the music fill you up, close your eyes and follow the beat."

Hesitantly, the young Dhampir set her first steps into the Ballroom. The room was already filled with many students, all dressed in elegant ways... Nico couldn't help but notice that some of the girls were... dressed in ways that... didn't seem fitting for underaged girls. Supposed cleavages going down to their belly buttons and gowns that seemed nearly impossible to move around with. It wouldn't take long before one of them would flip over a table or two. Nico felt it in her guts...

Taking in a deep breath, she took another last look at her outfit. Her strawberry red hair was braided and warped into two buns high on the back of her head. A pair of small horns were swirled through, pointing at the front. In the center of her head a small black feather broke the redness of her hair. A black star light inspired gem accessory laid upon her forhead. Like waterfalls, a few long strands of hair flowed down her shoulders. A raspberry red dress, with white tule made her skin stand out like bleak yoghurt. White pearls like stars in a red galaxy, twinkled on her torso and stomach. Her make up was abit redder than usual and a black, elegant, delicate looking batshaped mask made her iceblue gaze really pop.

Nico felt insecure for some reason. It had been a while since she had attended such a big event. Selfconcious about her looks, Nico tried her best to keep her head high. No need to feel afraid. You'll be fine. Cautiously walking in, slowely getting absorbed by the crowd, the young Prefect tried her best to observe her surroundings. Her other half should be here by now. Surely he would make her feel safe and less astranged from her peers. For some reason, whenever she looked for something or someone, no one else seemed to matter to her. Her eyes had only one price in mind. Her beloved gingergiant.

Politely sliding past a few more couples, she could finally notice her one of a kind. His unusual tallness and build stood out extremely. He was absolutely different. Handsome. Strong. And kind. Her cheeks flushing red, a soft pink coming through her foundation, she quickened her pace a little. 'Q-Quinn!' Nearly stumbling over someones dress, Nico fell against the Half-Giants side.. Hip?.. Arm?... Leg? Either way, she fell onto him and tried to keep herself on her feet. Her hands gently grasped onto his clothing, regaining her balance. 'I-I made it. I hope I didn't keep you waiting.' She smiled a little shy, still embarassed by what she had hoped to be her elegant and gorgeous entrance. 'You look really great.' Her cheeks flushed a little more pink. An intenser shade of pink.

Opeila couldn't quite believe she was doing this again. Another Hogwarts ball. One would believe she knew better at this point, public events in this school seemed doomed to go bad. And then there were strangers everywhere, Beauxbatons, Ilvermorny and Durmstrang. Unfamiliar faces, hidden under dark masks or scary make up, feeding the second year's paranoia.

After finally solving the mess of her hair, Opeila had made her way down to meet Percival. Sweet, naive Percival, who was her boyfriend. And the girl knew how unfair it was that she said yes when he asked her to go here with him. She shouldn't have. She had known months ago that this was not meant to last.
But here she was.

There was a spooky darkness in the castle, that made Opeila shiver. She shouldn't be here. She should have never agreed to this. The mask covered her face, distracted from her even paler skin than normal. Maybe Percival would see her hands shake, maybe not.
The Slytherin could barely make out familiar faces under all those masks. Her gaze wandered over the candles throwing moving shadows at the wall... Shadows moving, raising their arms to destroy...

Opeila didn't even realize that she froze in the ballroom entrance. She felt dizzy and breathless, the by now familiar illusion of walls closing in on her, coming closer.
And then she caught herself. Forced herself to breathe in deeply and out again.
This was a party. A ball. The shadows were supposed to be there, they were part of the atmosphere. It would be okay. They were all okay.

The day had finally arrived. Ever since Liz had found one of the Save the Date cards she had been excited. Her long love of ballroom dancing was finally going to be put to use. As a young girl she had begged her mother to teach her to dance like the fancy people who came over during the Isaacs's Parties. Finally Ivory had caved and gotten her daughter a teacher. Ever since then Liz had had a passion for ballroom dancing. Albeit she hadn't done it in years.

As soon as she had written to her parents about the dance they had sent her a dress. It was the dress her mother had worn as a young girl in the pure-blood scene. Liz thought it was beautiful. She fixed up her mask and then made sure her hair okay and then looped her arm into her cousins arm. Emile let out an audible sigh, causing Liz to snicker. The two had been put up by their parents to go together. Not as a couple, although it was not unheard of for second cousins in their family to get married, but just as moral support for each other. Liz believed it was just moral support for Emile.

They entered and Liz was hit by how perfect everything was. The room was only lit by a huge amount of candles and tables of food were set up along the sides of the room. In the middle masked couples danced and swirled, making Liz smile. This was a dream come true for her. She spotted multiple people she recognized, but couldn't name. But one immediately stood out to her. A familiar face from her past.

Her old best friend Lindsey. Liz hadn't realized the other girl went to Hogwarts and so visible shock showed on her face. She quickly wiped it off and turned her face away, hoping to avoid the girl the entire night. She was distracted however by someone else she could name. A smirk lit up her face and she disengaged from Emile and made her way over to the other blonde. Starpee.

"Well well well. If it isn't my good friend Starpee! How are you tonight? Where is Mad Marty? Did she go to the costume party like a little baby? Or maybe she stayed in her dorm to give everyone the favor of not seeing her ugly face. Something you probably should've done. Seriously...are you dressed up in a star dress? A bit on the nose don't you think?"

The ball was no exemption from Liz's reign of terror over her two rivals. After their meeting on the train Liz had done everything to get back at the girls for their treatment of her. Spitting on her and calling her that name... well that she couldn't allow. "You aren't even wearing a mask to cover your ugly face. How rude. Well...I gotta dash. I have more important things to be doing. Maybe take my advise and cover your pee stain of a face and don't trip on your heels!"

Liz snorted with laughter at her own tormentation of the girl. How she has friends is a mystery. She turned on her heels and clicked off, green dress swirling around her feet as she walked. Having lost sight of Emile in the crowd, Liz decided to meet someone new. She spotted two girls along the wall. One was adorned in all black and the other in a vivid shade of yellow.

Liz scooped up a drink, not paying attention to what it was and made her way over to them. "Hello! What about this ball huh? It's so beautiful." Her demeanor changed completely. From bully to sweetheart, just like that.

Emile was not happy to be here. He didn't like large group gatherings, especially not ones where it is so easy to fall victim to Florian's taunts. Not to mention his own cousin's. His parents had arranged for the two to go together and it made him want to throw himself out of one of the Hogwarts windows. Liz had already bullied him for his choice in color of suit, but he thought pink suited him. Plus it wasn't for her enjoyment.

She quickly ditched him, because of course she did. Anxiety settled into his stomach as soon as she separated from him. He made the decision to follow her and she what she was doing. He stayed a few feet behind her and watched her bully a blonde girl. The girl had long blonde hair and was in a star themed dress. She was quiet pretty, and Emile didn't understand what a girl like that could've possibly done to piss off Liz. What had Lizzy called her? Starpee? That couldn't be her name right? Surely no parent had burdened their own blood with a name like that. It was probably one of Liz's dumb nicknames.

Liz seemed to just be making a truck stop to bully the girl before she moved on to grabbing a drink off a table and joining a group of girls. This gave Emile no choice but to figure things out on his own. With a queasy feeling in his stomach, he made his way to the outskirts of the room and slid along the wall. What was he going to do? He would much rather be back home in his own school, studying creatures and practicing Spanish.

He spent quite a good while inching himself around the perimeter of the room, enough time that he finally spotted someone he knew. Someone he especially liked. Even though there was another boy already talking to Emile's pink-haired best friend, he couldn't pass up this opportunity to say hi in person. He made his way over and waited for a pause in the conversation before popping his head in, shooting Leonard a sheepish grin.

"Pardon me.", Emile paused. He had forgotten everyone here probably spoke English. "Sorry. Excuse me. I don't mean to interrupt. I just wanted to say hi to Earl really quickly.", he tried again. After apologizing to Leonard again, he turned his brown eyes to Earl. A grin spread over his face and he opened his arms for a hug after saying hello to the pink-haired boy directly.

If Eyre was blushing when he complimented her, it was nothing compared to Rose's face. It was a little disguised by her makeup, but to be honest, it was very visible, especially when Eyre was that close. She ducked her head, taking his hands when he took hers. "Thank you." He had no idea how much those words meant to her, coming out of his mouth. He could have said "good," or "beautiful," but she knew he meant it when he said breathtaking.

He looked handsome in his suit- he really did know how to clean up nicely, probably because of his higher ranked background.

But the next thing that came out of her mouth would be cheesier than him.

"Et tu as l'air vif, mon amour," she said, smiling bashfully but forcing herself to look at him. It was French, meaning "And you look sharp, my love." Rose had gone to the library, and checked out a book on French, pronouncing it over and over again until she got the pronunciation right. Well, almost. She did butcher it just a little bit. She knew he spoke French because of his adoptive mother, and didn't want to just say that he looked good, because she knew that he would. She wanted it to be more than that, to be more than empty words to him. Because what he had said had meant so much.

He might have thought it was the sweetest thing ever, but she immediately thought about every way that could have been wrong. He had every right to be mad at his adoptive parents and she didn't want to make him think about them.

But no. Tonight Rose was determined to be optimistic. Tonight was going to be a night she would think back on and smile ear-to-ear for absolutely no reason except for those two words. Breathtaking and Rosie.

Their faces were so close, as if they were about to kiss. Rose's breath caught but Eyre pulled himself away before it was too awkward. Those eyes...

He then asked her to dance. She nodded enthusiastically. "Yes!" Rose and him walked toward the dance floor, her hands hooking in his shoulder before she could even realize what she was doing. She tore her gaze away from him to look at the room, which gave her a minute to catch her breath. It was beautiful and spooky in there, and Rose marveled at it- she was so excited to be here. The music floating around the room was dramatic and mysterious, perfect for dancing.

Dancing. Rose would be lying if she said that word didn't scare her at all. Because, even in the smallest way, it did. What if she did it wrong? What if she invaded on Eyre's personal space or something? What if-

'Be optimistic,' she reminded herself. She could do this. It was just dancing. Rose knew Eyre had been to several dances before, she was sure, so she followed his lead as to whatever he did. They joined the dance floor.
Action: Butchering French, being adorable, and moving to the dance floor with Eyre, going to follow his lead.

Outfit
The skirt to her dress isn't quite as sheer as in the image.
Sarah watched as Paisley adjusted her mask, subconsciously mirroring the action and making sure it was still tightly secured around her head. Despite the number of dances she’d attended, she’d never had the pleasure of a masquerade so twirling around a ballroom wearing a mask did worry the Slytherin slightly. Certainly not enough for her to stop though. Even her partner’s wandering feet weren’t enough to stop her from dancing.

Paisley’s question was somewhat surprising, though really she had to expect it sooner or later. The girls had met a couple of times, often times discussing school work and their favourite classes. Though as she considered Paisley’s question, Sarah realised that she knew very little about her home life. She knew of her parents lineage but that was about all. It wasn’t as though Sarah had been forthcoming about her own personal life, offering scarce more than the fact that her father wasn’t a fan of muggles - understatement of the century. It was done consciously, of course, Sarah never being one to open up to anyone; she didn’t just easily, scorned too many times to afford such a luxury, and it made her reluctant to offer any information which could be used against her.

But Paisley was kind, and considerate, and perhaps she could be trusted with some of Sarah’s more personal secrets. Of course, a ball wasn’t the time to completely spill her guts to the girl, but she made a decision int hat moment that the next time they saw one another, she’d talk to her - properly talk. It’d be nice to get somethings off of her chest anyway. For now, she’d at least offer her something.

Life at home is interesting, to say the least,” She said, trying to explain her bigoted father and late mother and brother in a way which was light enough to be talked of at a party. “It’s just me and my father, oh and the house elves. One of them, Cynthia, used to always sneak me and my brother cakes when we’d been sent to bed after our parent’s banquets,” she smiled at the fond memory. She was certain her mother was aware of this happening, not foolish enough to believe the crumbs under their beds were from anything else, though she’d never said anything to their father.

Albert is - was - a few years older than me, so he liked to push me around and tease me endlessly. But he was always there for me,” Her smile faltered slightly, though more from the realisation that she’d not had anyone to talk to about her brother for the longest time, rather than being upset talking about it. “He liked to…” She cut herself off, stopping the words midway as she caught the look on Paisley’s face. Her shoulders had deflated and the smile she offered seemed forced, no longer genuine. Sarah took a second to think if she’d said anything to upset her, coming up blank. Something else then.

She glanced around, seeing that nothing much had changed other than a few more people having entered the ballroom than before. She turned back to Paisley, meeting her eyes, concern filling her own. “Are you alright? We can sit for a bit if you’d like, grab something to drink?” Sarah asked, already starting to lead them closer to the edge fo the dance floor. “Or we could go and get some air if you’d rather,” She added, offering her a tentative smile.
