The girl chuckled and rolled her eyes as he played through his plan if anyone tried to mess with him about his braid. Though make no mistake, she chose to take it as a joke. Illowy knew well enough he'd make good on his word if someone actually tried anything. Truthfully, she worried about him... every time she heard whispered about him, it was about a more and more aggressive or violent incident. She wished she was better at sticking close to him to try to either temper his anger or at the very least get the sorry soul that crossed him to run off while they had the chance. She'd at least gotten away with that once, somewhat successfully. Though Illowy wasn't sure if he'd let her get away with that again.

"Well, lucky for you, I've been braiding since I was big enough to tie a hair tie, so not very long if ye jus' hold still." she instructed, shifting a little closer to him once more and gently sectioning out the next tress of hair as she worked.

For a few minutes, she was quiet as thin fingers weaved through his hair, before she suddenly spoke up, "Kyky, can I ask ye somethin'?" she wondered, feeling herself get a bit nervous that she was actually about to ask him any level of advice about crushes and whatnot. However, with the autumn dances growing closer, she was running out of time, "How um... how do ye ask someone out?.. like, on a date?" she spoke, her voice getting a bit smaller as she uttered the 'D' word.

Kyle blinked a few times at the question. How does one ask someone out on a date? His knee jerk reaction was to bristle up slightly. To get defensive and want to find out who the guy she was smitten with was so he could corner the guy and give him the ol "If you hurt her I break your legs" speech...but part of him understood now was not the time for that part of the conversation. That would come later. Of that much he could be very very sure. But for now...

He cleared his throat, unsure of how to really answer this question. He was by far not an expert in the ways of romance and dating. After all, the first girl he fancied took his jacket and then ghosted for awhile and the other...well we dont talk about that.

He shifted uncomfortably in his sitting position, hoping to not mess up the braiding in his cousin was doing so she would have to start over or take longer to finish. "Well. How does anyone do anything Magpie? Ye just, ya'know. Do it. If you like him and ya want to do somethin' with him then just march up and say so. Cause if you dont, someone else will." he shrugged and offered a wry smirk "You've faced me down when I was at my worst, dont tell me lookin at some guy you find cute is too scary"

Illowy chewed her lip nervously as her cousin shifted where he sat, though she took care not to loose hold of the little braid so it wouldn't come apart. Clearly, of all the things he'd expected for her to talk to him about, this was hardly on the list. Then again, when did anyone expect something like that of her? She rarely took interest in people in general, much less on a more romantic level. Perhaps she was just finally now reaching that age where the prospect of having someone other then her family love or care about her wasn't quite as off-putting as it had been when she was younger.

Her fingers hesitating to continue the braid as he started talking about a 'he'. Oh boy, did part of her wish she was talking about a he. A boy would have made this so much less stressful; though whether that was because she didn't find herself intimidated by them or because of the social implications and normalities of liking a boy was easier to deal with, she wasn't sure, "I'm not scared of some silly boy." she replied matter-of-factly as she carefully tied of the braid and looking down to her little collection of beads.

Again, she hesitated, trying to find her courage again as she picked up another bead to string onto the braid, "I'm... nervous," she chose her word carefully, "to ask out a very nice... very pretty girl..." her words got quieter, almost timid as she confessed the feeling she'd been struggling with since summer. A new wave of nerves wounds itself tightly in her chest now, unsure what Ky might think or say. Such topics weren't something normally discussed between the cousins, much less in the family as a whole. Thus, she wasn't sure where anyone would have stood on the idea. The Unknown was nerve-wracking...

Kyle arched an eyebrow. Illowy wasnt typically one to puff herself up, or refer to herself in the third person. "Yeah yeah Magpie, yer a very nice very pretty-" the sarcastic tone was obvious, as was the sudden flash of realization across his eyes. she wasnt puffing herself up or talking in the third person. She was talking about some other very nice and very pretty girl. One that apparently, she wanted to ask to the ball. A wide smile crossed his face as he suppressed the urge to start to chuckle. He had never thought he was going to talk to his cousin about girls, let alone how to ask girls out. If anything, he pictured the situation being the other way around. Or atleast it would if he didn't, somehow, keep attracting girls to him asking him to this dance or that function as if he wasnt a dumb thug or crazy person. Then again...that is exactly what his current date was looking for so maybe things just work out the way they need to. Everyone has their own tastes after all.

"Ok Magpie, Were gonna breeze past how adorable this is for now. Trust me, we will be revisiting it later and frequently. Girls Like confidence. If you act scared of them, or talk to them like you are expecting rejection then thats what yer gonna get. Just walk right up to her and be like 'I like yer face, be my date?' or something along those lines. Worked for Duke all the time. OH! you compliment their outfit or hair or makeup or something like that first. Girls like when you notice the work they put into how they look."

he offered a shrug "Or you could do my method, and just cause trouble and break things until the girls with a crazy side seek you out themselves"

For a moment, Illowy thought she was going to have to endure the embarrassment of actually explaining herself to her cousin. How mortifying... that was, until it finally clicked in his dense head. Truly, did he really think she thought so much of herself that she'd puff out her chest and prance about, going on about herself like she was Erik Tharaldson or something?

The color in her face flushed and she turned bright pink as he gave her that wide, knowing smile at his realization.
"Ok Magpie, Were gonna breeze past how adorable this is for now. Trust me, we will be revisiting it later and frequently."
Oh the humanity. Did they really have to revisit the subject after this? Perhaps she would luck out and he'd totally forget she ever said anything about it the moment they walked away from each other. Perhaps she'd be spared of having to discuss such feelings and emotion... especially towards another human. She was barely able to articulate how she felt towards herself!

All the same, she listened as he tried to explain thing to her; though while she took note of some things, there were other's she was ready to argue. After all, who just tells someone that you like their face and then ask them out? If someone did that to her, she wouldn't hesitate to turn on her heel and walk away. Then again, Duke did tend to hold the most charm between the three of them.

Her thoughts backtracked when he mentioned causing trouble and attracting crazy girls, "Girl's with a crazy side? Fer fucks sake don't go messin' around with the crazy ones. Its bad enough the trouble you get into on yer own." she spoke, "Why can't you get yerself a nice girl? A smart girl. A girl I don't need to threaten or be prepared to blast into the lake for the squid's afternoon snack." she then suggested with a smile as she took another small section of hair in her fingers and began weaving another braid.

"Why can't you get yerself a nice girl? A smart girl."

a pang of hurt flashed across Kyle's eyes and he tried to blink it away and shift his eyes elsewhere to hide it. There was a nice girl, a smart one he really fancied. But when she found out the truth about him, what he was really like. The things he had done. Well that was the end of that. He huffed, Feigning annoyance "Nice girls dont like guys like me Magpie. I got more scars than some adults, and like getting into fights, and have a bad attitude." he grinds his teeth some. "Besides...What if I hurt her. Better if I dont go messin' around with any girls to be honest" he shifted some. He didn't want to sit here anymore, things got more real than he expected to and he wasnt used to being held hostage when the disgusting sensation of 'Emotions' joined the party. "you almost done, christ sake this is taking forever" he barked before he just grumbled to himself.

While he trusted Illowy more than anyone else, even his parent's, and he did enjoy being around her (most times) He still felt incredible Guilt over almost killing her and the idea of complaining or griping about anything with that on your conscience seemed kind of asinine. Besides, Talking about feelings, and emotions, and any of that crap just...it frustrated him.

The short flash of his expression didn't escape her, especially given how close they were sitting. Clearly she must've struck a cord somewhere as he gave a bit of a huff and listed off his reasons why no nice girl would be interested in him, "Any girl shallow enough t' care about scars isn't worth yer time, Ky." she muttered. Her fingers paused their weaving a moment...
"...What if I hurt her."
She swallowed hard. A valid fear for him to feel. Illowy certainly couldn't blame him for feeling that way. Not after what had happened to Duke... and subsequently what had nearly happened to her. Honestly, she'd be lying if she said she didn't think about that night often; though it was more because she hated how it must eat at him. Even though he played a tough guy who gave no fucks about anything or anyone, Illowy knew better then that.

He barked his question, pulling her attention back to her task at hand without even flinching. He never scared or startled her enough to flinch. Maybe she was just so use to his outbursts by this point, maybe it was because she knew he'd never actually hurt her in his right mind; maybe it was a little of both, "I'm almost done, just keep still." she assured, plucking up one last little bead to tie the end of the braid off with.

"You won't hurt her. Never in yer right mind would you hurt anyone you actually care about." she reminded him as she finished off the braid and let her hands fall back in her lap, "And if she really cares about you and loves you, she won't be afraid of you." she offered a little smile, "Just like I'm not."

Clearing her throat a little, she nimbly tied the little baggie of beads back up and slid off the boulder that had become the cousins' perch for the afternoon, "Now then, enough of this gross, gooey shite. My goal was to tame that mop of yours, and I've done it." she chuckled, knowing neither of them would last very long if they kept on digging themselves into a dark and decrepit hole of undealt with emotion, "Now, I've got some research to get done."
