JOURNAL Open Letters to family

Dear Mom and Dad,

I know it hasn't been a week yet but I miss you already! I can't believe how big this school is. Yesterday I found the Library. I don't think I have ever seen so many books in one place before. I think that I'm really going to like it here!
Your Daughter,
Lessie

(P.S. I got into Ravenclaw! I'm so happy!)

Dear Mom, Dad, and Zack.
Hey guys, you will never believe what I just got into!
I was in flying lessons today and my broom flew into my hand the moment i said up! Then I got onto the broom and suprisingly I was able to control it every well!
The teacher said I would make a fine chaser on the slytherin team in my second year! Can’t you believe it?! I will be able to go on the slytherin Qudditch team!!!!
I’m so happy! How are things at home? I miss you all so much and I can’t wait to see you again

Love your daughter-
Crystal Willows.
P.S- Thyme says hello to!

Dear Mother,

I miss you. Ever since you left us, everything has gotten worse in our family... If you even want to call it a family anymore.. Luka is missing, everyone is saying she's dead, but I refuse to believe it. Father has re-married to the first woman he met, I think he misses you far more than I do. Ney has began to replace you with this new woman, he acts as if you never existed.

He's pathetic.

But... I guess I can't say anything about being Pathetic.... I'm writing a letter to someone, I know for a fact is never coming back... No matter what anyone does....

Hey. I know I haven't sent any letters yet and I know you asked me to send something the second I arrived and I'm sorry I didn't. There's just a lot of stuff to do I've just been caught up in getting used to the place and meeting new people. I made some friends! Sort of... I'm not sure if they're my friends, I mean, I think they are, but I haven't asked them. I got sorted into Hufflepuff! Tell Abuela she was wrong and that I'm not a Gryffindor like she thought I was after all! How is Abuela? How are you? Tell me everything! I wanna know what's been going on. I guess you want to know everything too, right? You can't answer right now, but I'm gonna assume you said yes do. I didn't forget the password for the common room, I nearly did though, if you had told me about the defense system I would have been more likely to forget, then I would have felt pressured. That doesn't make sense to you, does it? Well, this place is awesome, like Abuela said and I'm excited to be near the food, it's really good, I was kind of expecting it to suck, but I'm glad I was wrong. Anyway, I hope things are going well, things are definitely awesome here!

Vincent was staring at the owl.

The owl stared back at him with a bored expression on its face.

He stared even more.

The owl was starting to get annoyed, and jutted out its leg, as if telling him to just 'hurry it up already' so it can do its job.

"On a second thought..." He murmured, clutching the letter tightly in his hands. His father has long avoided any signs of magic, even going as far as to put up a ward (a favor from friends, his father would say) to keep any owls and house elves out.

However, even though his father had told him that he'd ask a friend to take down the wards, Vincent couldn't be sure. Even though it has been a while since he has came to Hogwarts, time passed too quickly for his comfort and he could only imagine what it could be like back in their quiet little part of town.

He let out a sigh when the owl ruffled its feathers, seemingly readying itself to fly away or go back to sleep, "Sorry," He murmured, before finally tightening the tie his letter on the owl's leg, both hopeful and apologetic that he might have made this poor creature fly so far yet with no results.

Dad,

Things are going well, and I am sorry I took this long to write you a letter. I wasn't sure if you have taken the wards down yet, so I held back on it. Dad, I have gotten sorted into Hufflepuff! The Hat had also said that I might do well in Griffindor, but I don't think so, I don't have enough courage for that. It has also mentioned that you were in Ravenclaw before, I wished I could have been sorted into that house...I wonder what does their common room look like?

I hope things are going well, are you okay? You have eaten right? Did Mr Rogen come by? I hope he doesn't do anything weird, he is very weird. I wonder how is Cyrus doing, he got snappish at me when I started going to school...I hope he doesn't hate me now that I am at Hogwarts all the time.

I know that this is a very good school dad, and I think I have made a couple of friends as well and everyone is very friendly to me but I wish I can go back. I could be in the local school, and stay with you and Cyrus. But...I can't go back now, can I? I've already came this far, I should see it through the end right? As you used to say anyways.

But the common room is very cozy, and reminds me of Mrs Kirk's house down the street. But instead of fly traps, there are normal-looking potted plants instead. And to get into the common room, we had to tap out a tune on a barrel, it is very odd but fun. I want to go in and out again, but that would be stupid wouldn't it?

I'm not sure how long I can write, and I don't want to burden the owl too much so I will end the letter here. I hope you are doing well, Dad, and I hope Cyrus is too.

Love,
Vincent

Vincent stared at the owl as it flew away, briefly he wondered how could it possibly know where to go before he recalled that he has no time to be considering something like that when his class is in 20 minutes.

Dear Mum and Dad

I have been here for three weeks and I already love it. I got sorted into Slytherin (sorry mum, but you knew it was going to happen), and have made some friends. I have found the Ravenclaws to be better allies then the Slytherins, but I love my house and most of the people in it. The food is great here mum, as you told me, and my favorite class may be charms (sorry dad). Potions is a close second though. Several of the families that you told me about are here and everyone is surprisingly bearable, even the Hufflepuffs. I have found them to be great conversationalists and nice people. Unlike a lot of the Slytherins. I have kept my cool and have not gotten into any fights (you're welcome mom), and I am pleased to tell you that Slytherin is booming. I miss you! All of you. Tell Willy that I say hello! Tell Rachel as much as you can. I know you disapprove but she is one of my only friends at home. She is a good muggle, better then some wizards. I hope that you'll allow me to get an owl soon and next year maybe a broomstick, even though I have no intention of joining the Quidditch team (Sorry Dad).

Wish you well!

Your only daughter,
Mia

Reine made her way up the spiral staircase, a piece of rolled up parchment clutched tightly in her hand. As she reached the top, she began to tense up eyeing all the owls nervously, she was never going to get over her fear of them. Hurrying over to the nearest one she reread her letter before tying it to the large owl's leg.

Dear Grandmother,

Hogwarts is amazing, just like you said it would be! I've made so many friends already, I especially like my dorm mates, they're so sweet! Well, all except one... I've been sorted into Gryffindor, not that I mind not being in Ravenclaw like you were, you just so much smarter than me! I can already hear you complaining about how I haven't gone down to the Gobstones Club yet, but I'm telling you, Quidditch is the new thing. But I'm thinking of going down there after classes end tomorrow.

Looking up at the owl, she added,
Well, there's an owl giving me a nasty look so I'm going to end it there.
All my love,

Dear Mum,
Hogwarts is a great school. So far I've seen someone covered in red ink, I made a love potion, and I'm in Slytherin! I really hope that I do well in classes... I know that's what you'd want, because you were so successful (despite going to a different school) and my sister would be proud of me, since she did so well too! Also, I left my candies at home. Would you be able to send them here, and also the clothes I left behind? I don't know teleportation magic yet...

Love you,
Aurora <3

Mum, I would like to apologize in advance for the bad news I carry:

You owe dad two galleons. I'm officially a Gryffindor, like him. Do send me a letter describing his face as you tell him, will he start singing that song, do you think? I'm not disappointed. Though I admit I thought I'd be in Ravenclaw, as well, it really hasn't been any bad so far. Of course, there hasn't been much time to find this out, I haven't even spoken to anyone from my house just yet though soon I will.

I promise I'll make the most of my time. Classes are about to start and I'll do as you said and mention your name in charms, as well as investigate wether or not they actually do have a plaque of your name in the classroom. I haven't seen any other plaques like that so I'm beginning to think you lied.
For shame! I told my cousins about it.

Tell Ben I found his "Ben x Josephine" engravement in the wooden panels on the fourth floor, and tell Silas I got his old bed, the one by the door.

Best wishes, Scott.

PS. I wrote to Ignatius, like you wanted me to. He hasn't replied.

Dear mother,

I hope this letter finds you, and that you are not too startled by finding an owl in the kitchen.
Are you still mad at me? I promise, it is not my fault that I was born this way. And whatever Auntie May tells you, I beg you to listen to me. You are not the mother of a freak, like she says you are. I am not a freak. I write to tell you that I am enjoying my time here, and that I was sorted into Gryffindor house. I don’t suppose you know or care what Gryffindor house is, and I understand that. You are still mourning the loss of father, and believe me, so am I. But instead of locking myself away in a pit of anger, like you are, I am distracting myself with something I enjoy. And please understand that I AM enjoying it, despite your words of cruelty and disbelief upon my departure. I know that I should be grateful that you even let me come, but I think that you need to understand that this is MY life, not yours, and I am old enough to make my own decisions. Father always said that I inherited more than his looks. He said that I also inherited his temper, strong will, and independent nature. Please reply. The owl will be civil to you if you are to him, even though I know that you loathe birds. If you do not reply, I will understand that you are too ashamed of me, and I will not bother you again. If you do not wish to see me, I will stay with father’s sister Laura these holidays. I have already written to her, and she had responded with full enthusiasm to my new life. You see, SHE, unlike YOU, does not think I am a freak.
Remember what I said about your reply,
Your stubborn, frustrated, and deeply offended daughter,
Ms Saffron Elizebeth Charlotte Williams.
