Ana's dance shoes
Anastasia was more than a little nervous. This was the first real meeting of her club that she had worked so hard to found back in her first year. For obvious reasons, she hadn't been able to manage things during her second year, but coming back third year, she had flung herself into it whole-heartedly. She needed something to focus on, and dancing was far more constructive than fighting people.

She strolled into the rehearsal room about twenty minutes before the meeting was set to start. She took a dainty seat on the ground and began to fasten her ballroom dancing shoes. The announcements and rumors of a fall ball had worked nicely with the event she had already been planning, and she just hoped that all her preparation for this meant everything ran smoothly. As much as she loved Quidditch and flying, she couldn't do that at all times, and dancing was something that made her happy and connected her to her mother.

Her long dark hair was tied in a bun at the nape of her neck, and she had on a ballroom dancing practice skirt along with her ballet leotard. She knew some of the members had never danced before and some had been dancing as long as she had, so it would be an interesting meeting. Still, this would be a fun review for the more experienced dancers and a timely crash course for the new dancers. She began to move about and warm herself up slightly, even though she planned on introductions before any actual dancing occurred.
OOC: So excited for our first official meeting! I will be posting a moderation post on October 27 (this may shift based on the activity of this thread), so feel free to have your character enter and begin to warm up! Keep dancing!

Action: Arriving, early as usual.
Sarah had decided to get to the meeting early. She'd always prided herself on her punctuality - at least, whenever her father wasn't involved. She'd made it to the door with just over ten minutes to spare and had been excited the entire walk up to the rehearsal room. Until she saw the door. She's suddenly felt overwhelmingly out of place, as if she didn't belong. It wasn't usual for her to feel... self-conscious? She'd just walked through the hallways of Hogwarts dressed in a black leotard and sheer black skirt. And despite the odd looks she'd received from numerous students, she'd been able to ignore them, shoot a confident smile here and a wink there. She simply wasn't one to feel self-conscious. Until she realised she was about to have to dance in front of people.

It wasn't that she'd never done it before. She'd been dancing since she was small and danced in recitals and at her father's parties numerous time over the years. But this felt different, somehow. She wasn't putting on a show, pretending to be someone she wasn't. She was being herself, and she was mildly terrified that herself wouldn't be good enough, wouldn't be enough.

Still, she managed to stop her anxious pacing outside the rehearsal room door and steeled her nerves. Fake it til you make it, she thought, before walking through the doors with the confidence she'd held just ten minutes before. Once once, she was thankful that her sharp features made her look dangerous, that her brightly coloured hair - pulled tight into a ponytail - shaped her face in a way that made her look mildly intimidating. It was usually something she hated, that she looked so unapproachable, but she felt herself hiding behind it now. A mask she hoped she'd be able to let fall if the others she'd meet today were kind.

Her eyes fell on a girl, the one she believed to be the club's president, stretching in the middle of the room. She was slightly older than Sarah but she refused to let herself feel intimidated, instead, walking towards her with a smile. "I guess I am in the right place after all then," She said with a light chuckle, holding her hand out to the girl in front of her. "Hi, I'm Sarah," She smiled.

Lucia Fox had mixed feelings about the On Pointe Dance Club. When she had signed up towards the end of her first year, she had been deliriously excited to dance with other people for once, but also quite scared that they would immediately judge her for not having the proper equipment, the lessons, or indeed any experience other than dancing simply for fun.
It is part of my heritage, the younger Lucia had told herself. I can do it.

But that was Before Anastasia.

To first-year Lucia, the words Anastasia Beckett had been an easily-forgettable phrase only connected to the second-year lion who had founded On Pointe.
To second-year Lucia, however, the words Anastasia Beckett was an impossible-to-forget phrase meaning the third-year girl with anger issues who had attacked one of Lucia's close friends in the corridors.

Yeah, seeing Scarlett Aden bloody and bruised in the Hospital Wing that day hadn't exactly convinced Lucia to join the Ana Fan Club.

So, when Lucia entered the Rehearsal Room after lunch on the 3rd of October, a part of her brain was wondering why she'd come at all.
The girl was just over five minutes early, and as she looked around the near-empty room, something like panic began to set in.
There were only three people there - her, a green-haired witch she didn't recognise, and Anastasia.

Here she was, in a room nearly alone with Scarlett Aden's attacker. Lucia was so thankful for the green-haired girl's presence, she could have hugged her.
As it happened, she just had to hope that someone else would turn up, and the club could start, and fast. Really, really fast, because she was pretty sure she wouldn't last more than ten minutes bored with the older girl, without confronting her about what she had done to Scarlett. Well, no. Even Lucia had to admit to herself that she would probably be too scared to do anything more than give Beckett hostile glances, for fear that she might end up as Scarlett had.

So, the part-Veela contented herself with giving Anastasia a look as she closed the door behind her.
It was a strange look for Lucia to give, because she was trying to size the girl up as she moved forward into the room, and it was rather hard. The pretty, tall, brown-haired girl in front of her didn't look at all like the sort of person who would fly at a second-year and pratically rip them to pieces, but who knew? Appearances could be decieving. In vain, Lucia compared the image of this girl to how she had imagined Anastasia Beckett, but got nothing. For a moment, the girl's face seemed to grow birdlike as she thought how horrible it was that the third-year could just go around, doing things like that, and sit there pretty-as-a-picture as if she had nothing to do with it, but it quickly fell back into Lucia's regular features.

Wait.
Everyone else - well, the other two girls - were wearing leotards and skirts. Lucia Fox didn't even own a leotard! She usually just danced in leggings and a light t-shirt - would these girls hate her for it? Would they hate her for the fact that she had never had lessons, that she had never danced in front of anyone but her family, that she had-

Lucia forced herself to stop thinking, gave a tiny and half-hearted wave to the pair, accompanied it with a forced little smile, and quickly sat down on the opposite side of the room.

Amara was late. Anastasia had reached out, asking her to help run the dance club, and Amara was late to the first meeting. Now she did have a good reason for being late. The house-elves decided to hold her up in the kitchen when she went to pick up the cookies that Anastasia had requested for the meeting. Armed with a basket of cookies in one hand and a small bag with extra dancewear and shoes in the other, Amara hopes she has everything she needs.

Amara bursts into the rehearsal room, hoping that none of the members decided to show up early, but of course, two did. Setting the picnic basket in the corner and the bag with extra clothes near the door, Amara moves over to Anastasia to join her in the lacing up of her ballroom shoes. As she laces them up, the Dragamior heir notices one of the girls in leggings and a t-shirt,"Would you like some dance-wear, no pressure, of course, I just wanted to offer."Waving one hand in the general direction of the bag, Amara shrugs off the sweatshirt that is covering her to show her black, two price leotard and rubs her hands together,"Everyone excited?"

Wowee, two posts in one day, so proud of myself :love2:
Another girl joined the group only a moment or so after Lucia say down. Armed with what looked like a picnic basket and a small bag, the blonde burst into the room, allowing the doors to swing shut behind her.
The first thing Lucia Fox noticed was that the girl was wearing a leotard. Again. And a tiny skirt, as well- the classic pretty ballet outfit. Looking very excited and enthusiastic, she moved to sit with Beckett and the green-haired girl. But then...

Oh, wonderful - ten seconds in and she was already 'the one without the kit'. Lucia had always danced in whatever comfortable clothes she had to hand, or just whatever she was wearing to start with, but she had always secretly coveted a pair of real ballet shoes. Though she really had no idea what style she danced, the Hufflepuff had always been drawn to a ballet-like style.

"Oh, um," Lucia said, obviously startled to have been asked. She carefully looked in the blonde's direction, and not Anastasia's. "I'm... fine... Thanks for asking, though."
Lucia didn't want to be the one who had to borrow from everyone else, and had developed over her first year at school an uncomfortable instinct to refuse help when she probably needed it.
Swallow your stupid pride, will you?
Lucia pursed her lips, then said as casually as she could, "Actually... Could I borrow some shoes?"
A glance down at Lucia's feet would tell anyone that her favourite trainers probably wouldn't cut it, and there was no way the girl was going to tell everyone that her original plan had been to dance barefoot.

If the girl let her, Lucia would quickly stand up and walk over to the bag. She would pull out a pair of white slipper-style shoes, check them against her feet, then hurry back to her seat on the other side of the room and pull them on. "Thank you."

[font=Century Gothic]Sarah sat watching as the two new girls arrived. The first seemed nervous, constantly glancing over in the direction of Sarah and Anastasia. Sarah had immediately frowned, unable to keep the confusion from her face. The girl with black hair didn't look impressed, trying to shoot not-so-discreet glares in her general direction, as she seated herself as far away from Sarah as possible. She didn't recognise the girl, and had no idea why she might have a problem with her. It irritated her, like it always did, for someone to make a judgement before they'd even given her a chance. And apparently, even out of Slytherin robes, she still gave off a vibe which this girl had caught on to.

She bit her lip, trying to work out what it was she could have done to be glared at by a stranger. It wasn't as though it hadn't happened before - she'd received plenty of bad looks over her lifetime and doubted that would end any time soon. But they usually had a reason; albeit a rather stupid one, but a reason nonetheless. This girl didn't.

Sarah was about to make a comment, unable to bite her tongue when she felt as though she was being treated unfairly, when the girl smiled and offered a wave. It seemed forced, like she'd rather be doing anything but, but at least she offered that. Sarah was about to stand up, walk over to her to properly introduce herself. If she'd got a problem with me, let it be for a valid reason, she thought, bracing herself to stand, when another girl walked in. The blonde girl seemed rushed, quickly making her way over. It made Sarah momentarily forget about the other girl in the room. She smiled at the new arrival, eyes glancing down at the basket and bag she carried. She inhaled - cookies - they smelt wonderful, no doubt the house elves had been busy.

Her attention was brought back to the girl with dark hair when she spoke. Sarah hadn't noticed her lack of dance wear, not taking that piece of information in until had been acknowledged. She immediately felt bad about her prior thoughts. No doubt she felt uncomfortable, undressed, and nervous. Just because Sarah was a master at hiding her nerves, didn't mean everyone else was. The girl took a pair of shoes offered to her before scurrying back to the other side of the room. Right.

With only a moments hesitation, she stood up, offered the two girls beside her a smile, and made her way to the other side of the rehearsal room. "Hi, I'm Sarah," She said, taking the seat beside the girl as she fished her dance shoes out of her own back and slid them on. They were slightly worn and fit perfectly on her feet. "I love your top, by the way. It's cute," She said, only realising after she'd spoken that the compliment could be taken wrong - sarcastically. She let her lips fall into a smile, in hopes the girl wouldn't take them badly.

Carolyn was both terrified and incredibly excited for today's meeting. She loved to practice on her own but she also missed enjoying the dance with small group of like-minded people. Not to mention the learning aspect of it. She was definitely very self-critical already yet another pair of eyes might do her good. She was a hard worker but she needed to know what to focus on before improving herself. Even Carolyn’s strict teacher told her once that she was way too hard on herself sometimes but the young ballerina would have none of it. She simply had to give it her all so she wouldn’t have regrets later. Carolyn inherited that trait from her father. Still despite the occasional self-torture, the young witch never forgot to enjoy herself. Dance was her passion and she did it because she loved it. Therefore, when she found out there was a club for dancers at Hogwarts, she simply had to join it no question asked.

Unlike many others, Carolyn arrived precisely on time with just couple of seconds to spare. She was not out of breath and carried herself with grace…not proudly but like a dancer would. Her grandparents always taught her coming late was incredibly disrespectful but showing up early might also cause an inconvenience for others. The witch somehow doubted such would be the case with a school club meeting but she did as she was taught anyway. New people…okay…you can do this. She made sure to take a deep breath before entering the room. Despite her general calm demeanor, she did not do well when meeting strangers. She could hide it well but felt nervous nonetheless.

When Carolyn finally entered the Rehearsal room she discovered four other girls were already there. One, she had definitely seen around the castle but never had the opportunity to talk with. Anastasia? Was it her name? She looked somewhat intimidating but Carolyn would not form an opinion on someone based on their looks alone. Not to mention said girl was also most likely the president and anybody who was willing to take such responsibility had her respect. The green haired one and the one holding a basket were not at all familiar to Carolyn but that wasn’t unexpected. After all, she spent most of her time either in the library, ballroom or drawing somewhere quiet. It was no wonder she didn’t have many friends. She was actually far more surprised to see someone she already met, albeit briefly. “Oh…hello Lucia. It’s good to see you here,” she greeted the pretty girl with a smile. She remembered her from the ballroom and she was glad the young Hufflepuff decided to join the club. Sure, she did appreciate dancing with other skilled ballerinas but she was not here to compete. On the contrary, she was never much of a competitive type and if she did compete, it was with herself. No, she was far more interested in learning and she had a feeling she could learn a lot from Lucia. “And hello everyone,” she waved at the rest of the girls. “I’m Carolyn. It’s nice to meet you all. Thank you for having me.” She felt strange not offering her hand in greeting but doing so with each one of them separately would probably be even more awkward. This was no business meeting after all. Instead, Carolyn smiled and took off her hoodie, revealing the violet leotard and knee length white skirt. She could hardly wait to start dancing. She was incredibly stressed these past three days and she desperately needed to redirect those feelings somewhere else. Hard work was usually the only thing that worked for her.

The feathery swish of fabric and feather-light gait over stone, the slight opening of the doors to the Rehearsal Room, the tang of something strange in the air. All signs of our dear Astrea Neptune's entrance into the first On Pointe Dance meeting, subtle in a way only one truely in control of their body could be. Now, technically the Slytherin was running just slightly late- travelling up towards the fourth floor of a spiralling castle with occasionally switching staircases was such a tedious experience- but at the very least she was there and composed. In all honesty, there was less of a reasoning to join and more of an urge, to join and keep herself proper even as the school year descended upon them, to join and improve. She was not good at casual interaction but constructive criticism was always welcome- though most often then not beaten down by her own expectations.

Slipping into the room and allowing the heavy oaken door to close behind her, Astrea wasted no time in gliding over to an empty spot off to the side, placing down her bag carefully and pulling out her pointe shoes without looking directly at any of the gathered group. By now she knew the effect her mere presence had on others and wouldn't take any chances, for both their sakes and her own. If they wished to approach, she would acknowledge the incomer rightfully, but it was easier to allow others to invite themselves than to permit herself to do the same. Though this was set to be a normal first meet, Astrea's previous experiences of club activities were strictly reserved to SWAG meets, which quite usually ended in minor injury and competitiveness rushing through the blood threateningly. This was supposed to be a dignified and civil meet- er, as dignified as it could be.

The rehearsal room was admittedly not a place Astrea frequented as much as she passed it by, unwilling to subject herself to the encouraging clapping from the curtained portraits. It felt awkward to practice and be interrupted by the disembodied appreciation when she was used to analysing her work off her instructor's stern face and body language. The smell of cookies- no doubt fresh from the ever-working house-elves in the kitchens- pervaded the air from an enclosed basket sitting innocently in the far corner, filling the room with a sweet richness that further alienated Astrea's memories of a sleek, mirrored and neutral practice room.

For as long as she remembered, she had been caught deep within the world of performing arts- to be of high rank it meant to be of high skill, something most successfully achieved born and bloomed under the eye of a professional early on in life. Conduct yourself with elegance and dignity to be taken seriously and find that there were some minds that could not be change, find there are many to make an impression on. Whether it meant training her body or her mind under the scrutinising eyes of her tutors and instructors, there was an unspoken assumption of proficiency that Astrea endlessly worked to leap towards. Undeniably, there was most likely the same idea here- though bearing a heavily loosened ideology. Slipping on her practice shoes- well-loved and well-kept, they were a familiar shift in weight-, she took the time to simply observe the very small group of strangers surrounding.

Ah, how grateful she was to see Anastasia there. Of course, as club leader the other was required to be there as of her accord, but a recognisable face and temperament was well welcomed. With the Gryffindor flaregun, she knew where she stood. As for the others, her knoweldge was certainly lacking- one or two she had probably seen in classes or along the halls but never acknowledged, the rest she knew nothing of. They say that being unapproachable and refusing to approach drove a lesser person to sorrow- personally, Astrea quite content alone but it always meant that she hadn't much of an impact on the majority of the student body until they for some reason introduced themselves. Perhaps this was to be the chance.

Ana's dance shoes
Ana wasn't alone long. Soon after she arrived, she was joined by a girl with green hair, similarly dressed in dancewear. Unnatural hair colors weren't particularly uncommon in the Wizarding World, what with hair color changing spell and potions and such. Ana shook her hand and smiled. "Anastasia, lovely to meet you," she said, the rehearsed introduction rolling off her tongue. She rather wondered why people said it was lovely to meet someone when they didn't actually know whether or not that was the truth. Ana might meet someone and then subsequently punch them in the face, so who was to say that meeting someone was lovely with so little information? A line of thought for another day.

After a few minutes, they were joined by a second girl who was most definitely not dressed in dancewear. Ana raised a judgmental eyebrow as she appraised the girl. She had said that all levels of dance were welcome or something along those lines on the poster, but she had assumed that for someone to join the club, they would at least already know how to dance. As she looked the girl up and down, her face seemed to look rather birdlike for a moment, although that might have been Ana's imagination being somewhat tainted by her judgment of the girl's attire.

Another girl entered right on time and subsequently introduced herself as Carolyn. Ana smiled graciously at her and was highly pleased to see that she seemed to have opted to dress appropriately for the occasion.

Where the bloody hell was Amara? While it was normal for purebloods to be late, Ana had stressed to Amara that she absolutely had to be at the meeting at least ten minutes early. It was now time for the group to get started and there was absolutely no sign of her. Ana was going to have to strangle her. Pity, the Slytherin was one of the few people Ana actually almost tolerated.

As if Ana's murderous thought summoned her, Amara entered. Ana pressed her lips together and shot her a death glare. "Lovely to see punctuality is so important to you," Ana hissed. It wasn't the end of the world or anything, but it deeply irritated Ana. It wasn't that hard to be on time, and when Ana chose to be late, it was often to prove a point or assert her own dominance in a situation.

Before she had too much time to chew out Amara for her tardiness, the doors opened again, revealing another lucky person who had earned Ana's tolerance and general politeness. Ana was less irritated at Astrea's lateness than Amara's, mainly because Astrea wasn't helping to run the club. Still, it was past time to get the ball rolling, so Ana stood and faced the group.

"I'm sure you all are aware of who I am, but for those of you who aren't, I'm Anastasia Beckett," she said. "Today we're going to be working on a few simple ballroom dances in honor of the coming ball. So, once you're warmed up, find yourself a partner. Generally, a boy would do the leading bit, but as we obviously don't have any boys, we're all going to do both parts. We'll be starting with a foxtrot to get us all comfortable with one another and warmed up, and then we'll move into some more complex dances." She wound up the phonograph and a pleasant, jaunty melody filled the room. Once the group was all paired up, she demonstrated the correct hold and informed those that were on her side that they would be leading first.

"I'm sure we all know this already, but just to review," Ana called to the group. "We all start with our feet together. Leaders, take a slow step forward with your left, slow step right, then quick step to the side with your left, then bring your feet together. The rest of you, slow step back with your right, slow step back with your left, quick step right, bring your feet together." With that, Ana glanced at her partner and the group began to dance.

and music Ana is starting off with for those of y'all who are interested. If you would like to have your character partner up with Ana, feel free to have them ask. Amara sends a kind look towards Lucia as she walks up to grab a pair of shoes and rolls her eyes at Anastasia. Yeah, she was a few minutes late, but not everyone has arrived yet. Can the 3rd year not just... chill? The blonde sends a look towards her that hopefully says 'shut up, we can deal with this later'.

A girl Amara recognizes from her dorm and the dueling team walks in dressed in an extravagant tulle skirt and seems to avoid Anastasia's wrath for being late, of course.

Anastasia goes on to introduce herself and explain what they will be doing as Amara rolls her ankles in a gesture of getting herself ready. The foxtrot, okay that works. Simple, but necessary. One of the other girls comes up to her and asks to be her partner for this first dance. Responding with a polite yes, the two girls begin to dance.

One step to the left, one to the right, patterns, and habits fall together. The soft melody circles the girls as they enter a peaceful state of rhythm. Each step thought out and well-practiced, each movement smooth as cream cheese on a bagel. The best part, the girl's plans are falling into place, no one has hurt themselves or started a fight. Yet at least.
