Raine sucked her teeth as he watched her spell completely miss its target. She didn't give herself time to stay annoyed with herself as she moved around her partner to cast another spell at her opponents. She was happy that her partner, Lamik, was happy with his connected spell with the pale and albino looking student, but Raine was more concerned that she would only be a hindrance to him in the end. She could only hope her next spell would hit her target. They needed to win this. She needed to get her crap together and concentrate better!

Though narrowly dodging one attack, Aida grimaced as she was knocked down with a Flipendo. Having stuck out all her life, perhaps it was no surprise that she would become the sole target now. Through the familiar pain and haze, the ugly words of her foster parent echoed through the years— "the nail that sticks up gets hammered down." Flashing through her mind returned each nasty look and jeer that lanced the albino child when going into her village. Even if each person had since died, their actions never truly would. Aida remembered, and Aida would be shaped and shape the world in turn. Yet, Aida was simply in a duel now, no? These children here might have had nothing against her. Still, a shiver went up the girl's spine as she remembered the contrast between a certain fake smile and the truth behind green eyes. Was growing up about learning how to conceal the truth? Children being scolded not to stare, not to say such things in public... just to conceal the truth of what they really thought. Perhaps it was true that humans were just too weak to handle the genuine feelings of others. Perhaps humans were just too dangerous to be allowed honesty. Still, if to become a grown human was to become a deceiver then Aida would rather be an animal. While her foster parent had been explosive and wrathful, at least he always showed what he truly felt. These half-children, half-adults— Aida no longer knew if they were concealing dangerous truths.
Aida crawled back onto her feet and shook her hair back out of her eyes, determined to do better. Something here needed learning from. If she couldn't dodge these simple attacks from half-children, she would not stand a chance against the real enemy... and Aida could not afford to fail in that task. She was still recovering from a summer of walking the line with death, and she knew one day she would have to walk that line again in order to take back their memories.

It appeared, from Dmitri's point of view, that @Lamik Fillestar either had a vendetta against the pale Ravenclaw, @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood, or simply wanted the game to end quickly. So much was his determination to hit the poor, injured student, that he cast a Flipendo so forcefully, it knocked them off their feet. From the resounding thump that could be heard by the audience nearest the platform, it appeared Aida would not be getting back up anytime soon.
Despite his teammate's struggle, @Damion White persevered. His previously-inaccurate spell succeeded this time around. A particularly nasty Mucus Ad Nauseam hit Lamik squarely in the chest, causing his lungs to quiver into action, producing mucus at an alarming rate. The Ravenclaw boy's luck did not stop there, as @Raine Sage's spell fizzled off to his left, missing him by a lot.
Fortune seemed to be skewed a little bit crazy in this round, going in whatever manner it saw fit. In its capricious nature, Damion might still take back the advantage in what looks like a pretty unbalanced game.

Scanning the crowd behind her before starting the second round, Aida’s eyes flicked from one face to another to another. Who were all these strangers? All these people she did not know. Certainly she reflexively accumulated information on anyone who happened to cross her path, but… looking into their eyes, could she really say she knew anyone there? And there were so many of them. So many humans all in this one room. The assortment of smells from their bodies. The unknown thoughts crawling through their heads. Aida had developed a sense for people and creatures out of necessity, but after the house elf incident she was no longer sure how much others were still concealing. The air felt increasingly hot and hard to breathe as Aida grew ever more aware of just how many bodies were between her and the exit: a single doorway that did not lead directly out but instead through more passageways… and each body had magical powers. There were no windows and they were on the fourth floor even if there was a way to blast a hole through the magically-reinforced walls. Now the heat was stifling as the walls' myriad hanging portraits seemed to be closing in. She felt so alone, surrounded by strangers, surrounded by humans where there was no possibility of escape. The taunts of village children shrieked through her mind as the sound of her own heartbeat grew indistinguishable from the memory of Sean’s footsteps coming up the stairs. Aida had come to learn, but everyone was targeting her and she was so intensely white. The nail that sticks up gets hammered down, said the voice. The nail that sticks up gets hammered down.
Aida had not even heard the round start through the cacophony of sound coming from nowhere, everywhere, so many sounds. Trying to dodge everything at once [rolls a 1], Aida melted under the force of a blow [nat 20+10] stronger than any that she had even received in the Forbidden Forest, back when she was strong… back when she was strong…
Everything went black and Aida bathed in perfect darkness. Empty, empty darkness where she was no longer luminescent. Cloaked in the most perfect black no one would be able to see her face. Yet, alone now in her unconsciousness, Aida still felt the pain of the void. As if digging through her memories for why she had ever left her cave, Aida's subconscious began formulating different versions of a nightmare. Why had she left her cave and gone back to Sean’s house where he could corrupt her into becoming a murderer? If only she had not left the darkness, Manticore would not have died. If Manticore had never died, she would never have... have what? Someone was there in her mind but it was too dark to see. If she could just hear, or…
Remember for you...
The voice of the white general pierced Aida's nightmare.
We will find the truth. It will be like the moon.
Ah, yes. Last time she was knocked out, in the Forbidden Forest, Aida had met this creature. She still couldn't remember how she had survived. What had happened to…
“Do not disappoint me.”

Damion was a little saddened to see his partner faint. He wished he could have helped her out. Well the next best thing he could do was win this duel. He was happy that his spell had hit Lamik. He was sure he was going to make his friend- Dyllie very proud of him. He had missed the spell that was cast on him by the opponent. He was happy to be still standing.

Once again, Raine's attack missed and she was not happy. The only upside was that Lamik's attack managed to knock out the Ravenclaw girl so the two lion cubs only needed to focus on the boy now.
'If only my damned attacks would land.' Raine thought angrily to herself as she waited for the other girl to be removed from the platform so that the duel could continue. She felt bad for the girl, sure. Getting hit hard by two Flipendos must have not been very fun at all. But Gryffindor needed a win and her sacrifice would hopefully lead to one. A brutal assessment, but it was one Raine actually felt. She needed to prove that she could be a good duelist. She probably wouldn't be as good as her mother and aunt, but she at least wanted to be damn near as good as them.
But for that to happen and for her to be able to prove it to herself...her spells needed to land.

Lamik was far too focused on the fight to think anything of his partner's attacks not landing. As far as he was concerned, unless a specific plan was put in place, everything around him was just background noise. All that mattered to him in the moment was the targets, but he may have gotten a bit too invested- just after he hit the girl a second time, successfully eliminating her from the match, he was hit with a spell himself. It took a while for Lamik to realize what had happened but as soon as he felt his nose well up, he knew. The uncomfortable feeling was accompanied by a migraine-like headache, one which made it quite difficult to focus. After wiping his nose against his sleeve as quickly as possible and attempting to blink away the pain, he prepared for his next move.

If anybody could take anything from this duel, it's the fact that the fight isn't over until it's over.
@Damion White, all alone after his teammate got completely bulldozed by his opponents, seemed to be holding up quite well on his own. In fact, his Curse of the Bogies hit @Raine Sage right in the face (20 Accuracy). Almost immediately, the girl's eyes would start watering, and her nose running in a way so icky, Dmitri had to look away for a bit to save the girl some dignity.
She and her partner, now both sporting severe bouts of cold, missed all of their targeted spells at the lone Ravenclaw boy. @Lamik Fillestar would have hit his opponent, the spell steadily gaining on Damion's position. However, at the last minute, a particularly violent sneeze skewed his aim and caused his flaming beam to scorch the air beside the boy's head.
The weakness slowly creeping up on the two Gryffindor duelists was a bad sign.
They will have to take their opponent down before being bested by their magically-induced respiratory infections.

"ACHOO!" The dainty yet violent sneeze left the girl's mouth and she quickly covered her mouth with the inner side of her elbow. She hated being sick and more importantly, she hated being sick now. She had never been sick in a duel before. This would be her first time and she was pissed. How dare that prick hit her with this spell?! It was bad enough that her spells weren't hitting the targets she wanted, but now she was doing to have to try to land a hit while sick?! Oh, why didn't she pay attention in Transfiguration?! Raine knew that she would have to beg Professor Lian for some tutoring after this duel. Looking at her partner, she gave a nod as they silently thought about what they were going to do. Almost as if they were connected somehow. She wasn't going to let her partner down...or she hoped that she wouldn't.
