October brought with it more than just cold weather and looming midterms but the promise of children being sugared up and set forth in groups of princesses and demons to adventure the halls in search of adventure. Trick-or-Treating had been something that many Muggleborn students were all too familiar with. The excitement and stories had filtered along to those that maybe were not as aware of this tradition within the magical world. While there were no neighborhoods to wander the streets of, walking up and greeting neighbors to ask for those sugary delights. There were Professors that wanted to make the castle feel the same, filled with the same joy and excitement of being able to get sugary treats for free. The professors and staff had been planning to make up for their lack of being able to go out on the town and trick or treat by setting up locations within the castle itself for the students to take advantage of.

By mid October students would see posters placed around and an announcement during one of the dinner feasts about hosting a Trick-or-Treat event on Halloween night. Costumes were welcomed but not required and of course students could bring either a pillowcase or some sort of container for their candy. It was sure to be a night of destressing from the looming responsibilities of school. At every location there was some sort of candy receptacle, and a label for how much was allowed to be taken from it.

As soon as someone walked into the hallway leading into Professor Jemari’s office, they would be met with flying and swooping chocolate brooms that danced through the air just above a large golden dish that closely resembled a snitch. Each candy broom dipped down just within reach of the students before speeding away. This was a challenge candy, they would have to be quick and agile to catch one of these delights. Once they victoriously caught one, any other one they tried to catch would seem to move faster than the last to prevent them from getting more than one.
OOC Note: This is not modded, feel free to RP them struggling just a little bit before catching it.

After going to the library and getting the quill and chocolate then meeting up with another friend whom Henry met when he accidentally feel out of a tree but the day ended up pretty go since the girl; Sarah Lightwood had a cool cat with in Henry's opinion not only a wicked name but also a scientific name also; Supernova. Anyway after meeting up her and getting the treats from the library, Henry asked Miranda where to ask and they somehow decided on the flying class probably since Miranda was on the ravenclaw quidditch team and even through Henry was a dueler, he liked flying on a broom just maybe not in a quidditch game but Henry thought that didn't really matter since Miranda was the quidditch player and he still cheered for her.

As he was walking toward the flying classroom or office next to Miranda, Henry would say " if you want, on a day off I could help you practice for your next match Mira," Henry smiled at her before continuing on their walk and as they got closer to the office Henry would speak again " I wonder what the treats will be here," Henry looked at his girlfriend which was still odd and beyond weird to the anxious boy as he thought for a minute or two before finally speaking " we could get extras for your brother if you like and maybe even invite him along with us to that movie thing in the great hall," Henry smiled at her and really wanted to help since he knew that she and her brother were close but haven't seen each other much this year so Henry wanted to help with that as much as possible.

When the two reach the office, Henry looked up and saw the flying brooms that were made of chocolate as Henry laughed over at Miranda and spoke " this seems fun, who do you think will get one first?" Henry would then placed his messager type bag on the ground as he started to jump up and stretch his hands out to grab hold of a broom. After a while and not really sure if Miranda got one before him, he finally was able to catch one of the brooms and stuffed it in his messager type bag quickly before it could get away.

Henry then looked over at Miranda and laughed a bit " that was harder than I expected but weirdly a lot of fun," Henry then took a piece of candy from the dish that resemble a stitch and place it in his messager type bag as well before turning to Miranda and speaking " should we go to another classroom or prepare for the great hall coral?" Henry didn't know why he did it but in that moment he decided to nickname Miranda Everest, his girlfriend; coral.

So far Miranda's hopes were being far surpassed that Halloween. It was so much nicer than she'd come to expect, and more fun with someone else to talk to. Their next stop was the flying pitch, more specifically Professor Jemari's office.

"Really?" Miranda asked, shooting him a teasing glance that quickly morphed into an interested one. "You know, that would be really useful. I don't practice as much as I should out of the official practices. And I definitely need the practice."

She brushed her fingers across the stone wall, but quickly stopped when her hand came away coated in grime. "Cedar would like that," Miranda replied in response to Henry's suggestion they save candy for him. "But I wouldn't doubt he's done some trick or treating himself. As for the movie..." She sighed, her expression becoming a bit more forlorn. "I haven't seen him much recently. Ever since the Hogwarts Express, our chats are really brief - if they happen at all." Her expression quickly snapped back to its previous excitement, so abruptly some might be startled by it. "But that's fine. I'm sure he has other things to than talk to me. Friends of his own and all that." However, if someone listened carefully, her words sounded oddly false and overly cheerful.

The sight of the brooms when they entered the office made her laugh out loud. "That's so clever!" Miranda exclaimed, jumping slightly in a weak attempt to grab one. Unsuccessfully, of course. "And for your information, of course I'll get one first." She grinned teasingly, then commenced jumping and hopping as she grasped for the darting brooms.

Unfortunately for her claim, it took her a full twenty more seconds than Henry to get her candy, although from Miranda's continued enthusiasm it would seem like she didn't even notice. "It was." she agreed, tucking the chocolate candy away in her black shoulder bag. "And...coral? What's that about?" Her face was once again one of teasing amusement as she held her bag shut to prevent the candy from escaping. Henry's actual question was more or less put aside as she focused on the out-of-place word.

Nothing stuck out to him as "candy" at first, as Andrew approached the Professor's office, but following the masses and catching onto what the others before him were doing, he soon realized that it was the tiny flying "brooms" he was supposed to catch. Chocolate brooms. Well that got his glands salivating again. The Hershey's Kiss since he had last left the Muggle Studies room was long dissolved, and his stomach had started growling for more sugar sustenance to fill it. Like a tiger honed in onto its prey, Andrew's pupils dilated, locked onto one of the chocolate brooms, and waited for his moment to pounce, crouching and studying his target's movements before he leaped… And missed. Drat. Andrew's fingers narrowly brushed the handle of the broom before it darted up and out of reach. Frustrated, Andrew let out a dramatic cry of "Nooo, come back here, broom!" in deep Batman voice (obviously, to keep in character) as he began chasing a swarm of brooms around the hallway, black cape trailing behind him, jumping and waving his arms aimlessly in comedic attempt to swipe one. This might take a while…

Fortunately he had his sidekick - rather "archnemesis" - with him, @Dan Palmer, Quidditch Captain and best friend in the whole wide wizarding world (as for the Muggle world, that honor was reserved for Andrew's old friends Cody and Elmer). And since Dan knew all the ins, outs, ifs, ands and buts about Quidditch, surely he'd be able to come up with a more clever, efficient way of capturing the flying treats. He wouldn't be surprised if Dan caught his broom before him, since Quidditch - specifically Seeker - training was supposed to make one agile and quick reflexes and all. "Joker, help me!" Andrew would grunt out to Dan in his flailing struggle (but would eventually find success regardless in snagging one of the brooms, give or take a few minutes - really, those brooms were toying with him). If Andrew couldn't catch a floating candy in an enclosed space, how in the world would he have managed to catch a Snitch on the field? Dan proposing that he become a Seeker was ludicrous!

Moving on from the Muggle Studies classroom and munching on strawberry Nerds on the way, Piper climbed downstairs towards the Flying grounds. She wondered how Professor Jemari would set her candy up. There had to be some kind of Flying theme incorporated, right? So far, Piper had had a lot of fun at Halloween. Even though her mum wasn't there to enjoy it with her, she was going to write all about it to her cousins and mum. Around the halls, Piper saw a few students drifting towards their next stop, others had friends and were practically racing up the moving stairs. Their costumes varied from horrifying to downright adorable.

Going downstairs took longer than Piper anticipated due to the fact that the staircases moved and were difficult to maneuver around. She walked the hallway to Professor Jemari's office. A slight bzzzzzzzing reached her ears and she stopped. What was that? And were those...insects? Cautiously, Piper advanced down the dimly-lit hall. Upon a closer look, the buzzing seemed to be coming from candy brooms, dipping and diving through the air! How very inventive. There was a large golden bowl resembling a snitch at the center of the room (filled with mini candy snitches). Clearly, students were expected to catch a broom from out of the air.

Piper glanced up and hopped into the air, trying to catch a broom. She missed by a couple of inches, tripped, and fell. Fortunately, the hall was deserted at the moment, so as far as she was concerned it didn't happen. Muttering about quidditch, she rose and looked around her. This time, eyeing the flying brooms like a cat, she whipped her arm out and caught the candy in her hand. Putting it in her mouth, it was rich and chocolatey and caramel-y. Her favorite things! Piper reached down and took a candy snitch as well. Her current stash of candy seemed good enough for now, and who knew what would be held at the movie? She decided to leave and head towards the ballroom so as not to be late.

In Leonard’s opinion, Halloween was an event that would be best not celebrated with all the actual witches and wizards and werewolves and other incredibly scary creatures that started with the letter w. It was an event literally designed to get rid of them by having bonfires and making the noises of hell. Add that to the given track record of something usually showing up to ruin the fun, may it be murderous old people, weirdly coloured fire, thirsty fanged beasts, or even all four, and no amount of sugary treats would change the facts. Well, perhaps it would for some people, but the Slytherin was just about immune to candy bribery, after growing up with two bakers who had little sense of empathy when it came to their child. Dad jokes over everything else, was his father’s motto.

Once again, it seemed his father had disappointedly stuck to the motto, and carried on the tradition of forcing him to do some sort of dressing up for the eve. The snake would have been perfectly content ignoring all the pumpkin-filled festivities, if not for the letter. Or rather, a gigantic package full of lumps that just so happened to have a quickly scribbled note on the side reading you’re welcome. Upon opening the haphazardly wrapped parchment in his dormitory, clothes began to fall out onto his bed, a burgundy tunic and maroon chaperon being the first to join the waterfall of what was likely a costume. Then, a large woolen replica of a certain painter’s facial hair fell out. Definitely a costume.

The boy had sighed in defeat. There was no winning, and even if he chose not to, his father would immediately know. Not for the fact that Leonard was a horrible liar, far from it. It seemed the man had gained the ability to sniff out candy and pumpkins, and if neither of those were stinking up the knitted beard, he’d be punished. What his punishment would be, the boy wasn’t sure, but if this ridiculous attire was something the other considered a gift, it was enough to make him want to avoid it.

And so, he decided to succumb to the wills of his father and dress as the renowned artist who shared his name, though he skipped the beard. There was a trick-or-treat event going on, and the more he thought of it, the less reason there was to not go. Or rather, he blocked out the sane parts of his mind that told the novel’s worth of reasons that he should not go and replaced it with thoughts of wizard candy.

Leonard’s first thought was the flying professor’s office, as he had too much respect for all the other places to choose them as spots where he would inevitably break and smash sweets. Or both. Either way, he’d decided the place where there was apparently flying brooms, if those in the halls were to be believed, would be a good start for his one night of ignoring common sense.

Of course, he needed to have at least a slight ego boost from all this, so he’d invited the person with the least dignity he knew, a certain Gryffindor who would probably dress up as something even more ridiculous. It would provide a distraction of sorts from his own wear. And, being, well, himself, the Gryffindor had agreed, with a bit more enthusiasm than considered healthy, in the boy’s opinion.

As he entered the office, he saw the rumours were indeed true. A few others were present, though he didn’t recognise any of the silhouettes. He decided to stand by the door while waiting, leaning against the wall as to not disturb the others. Also because he didn’t want to be the one who fell upon a piece of furniture or glass while attempting and failing to catch one.

Ah, Flying. Now THIS was Dan's element. After having gone to Muggle Studies for the overly familiar candy, Dan got to direct where he, and his best friend @Andrew Vance went. And so, he went to Flying. Maybe it was a bit on the nose, considering he was the Slytherin Quidditch Captain, but he didn't care. He still was mildly confused as to why Andy was so excited to get his hands on the same old stuff he'd been getting for years. And it couldn't be nostalgia. No doubt he and his muggle friends went on a candy spree when he got home just like Dan and his mates in Dingle did.

As soon as they entered and the chocolate brooms were in sight, Loki completely lost it and leapt off of Dan's shoulder and started jumping at the brooms, trying to snag one for daring to taunt him like that.
This was adorable, and funny enough to make Dan laugh. In fact, the only thing more hilarious was Batmandy trying and failing to catch a broom, and using lines that there is no way Batman would ever use in a really good Batman voice.

Dan himself did what he did on the Quidditch Pitch. Focus on doing a single thing. This was made even easier considering no one was trying to kill him with large iron balls. He set his sights on one. A milk chocolate broom. He waited, and watched it to learn its pattern. If gaming had taught Dan anything, its that all things follow a pattern; nothing is truly random.
His hand and arm twitched, but he stopped himself. No, that wasn't the moment.
He waited a bit longer, and the moment he saw the broom start to dip, he lashed his arm out, leapt, and grabbed it. Just like catching a Golden Snitch, the key was patience, and striking at the right time.

When he heard his character name being called, He looked over at Batmandy still struggling alongside Loki.
Dan responded, imitating an American accent surprisingly well.

"What's this? Batman asking Joker for help? I'm not even the right Joker, and I still find it funny.
The trick, Batman, is not to jump aimlessly and try to catch any that are close to you. This isn't a fight with Penguin's goons. You'd think after all your stints with Catwoman that you'd know some thief moves."

Eventually, Batmandy did indeed get a broom. But, he wasn't the only one.
Loki seemed to have shown off his high intelligence, and climbed on top of Andy's shoulder for a better vantage point. When Andy jumped to grab a broom, Loki did the same, and snatched a dark chocolate broom out of the air.
He took it in his mouth, and trotted back to Dan, showing off his hunting prize with all the pride one could imagine a cat possessing.

Dan smiled and petted the kitty. But then remembered that chocolate is VERY bad for cats and dogs, so he used a salmon chewy treat to trade the broom from Loki, and stuck it in with the other broom and the rest of the candy.

Andy wanted to move on, and so Dan and Loki did the same. They did have a lot of ground to cover, after all.

Serena enters thread for Halloween Errand
Serena really was not very creative with her costume. In fact, she wore the same thing ever year since she acquired her invisibility cloak. She would drape the cloak over her shoulders, closing it so that her entire body would be covered and therefore invisible. But she would leave her head outside of the cloak. It gave the illusion that she was simply a floating head, which she thought was pretty fun. Scary but not overly so and there was little effort. This time, in an attempt to make it a bit different from last year, she did put a bit of make up on her face. This was not a lot but she had gotten some red lipstick from her mother and applied it on her cheek, as though it was blood. It definitely looked fake, by all counts. But the point was that she had tried.

Deciding to join in on the trick or treat event that had been set up on Halloween - mostly because she loved candy - Serena joined the group. Her first location was definitely going to be the Flying Professor's office. Flying was her favourite subject without a doubt, so it just made sense to visit the office when she heard that it was on the route.

A huge smile appeared on her lips as she spotted brooms - made out of chocolate - flying around! They were adorable! The glee on her expression was not subtle by any means. It was certainly far more creative than she had anticipated. She expected... a bowl of candy, to be honest. With a proud grin, Serena nodded to herself as she figured out what the task was. A year ago, this might have been a bit difficult for her. Two years ago, it would have been a struggle. She probably would have spent fifteen minutes trying to catch the candy. Today it was far more fun. She had spent almost all of her free time last year training on the Quidditch pitch or playing for her house. As a Seeker, spotting the smallest fastest object and catching it was her main and only task. She had become well versed in it - having caught the snitch in all three of the games that she played.

Serena was not normally a confident person by nature. In fact, she was usually anxious and a nervous mess. But for once, she felt very much in her element. A part of her just knew she could do this. Carefully, she watched the brooms, observing how they moved and the speed. The snitch was chaotic and changed. She anticipated the same in this case. Being short, a lot of them flew far too high for her to catch. But she waited patiently. There! Until she spotted one getting closer to her, much more on her level, NOW! She told herself as she quickly jumped at the last second, her hand reaching out for the broom. It clasped around it, "Yes!" She cheered to herself as she fistpumped, landing on her feet again.

With that, she made her way to the next location - with the biggest smile on her face. She was proud of herself.

Heading down from his dormitory on the fifth floor where the Gryffindor common room was located, he was accompanied by Eyre, one of his best mates. Today, they both decided to ditch they were committed to and go off on a friend adventure for Halloween. A good laugh and some jokes would be fun with his friend and tonight was a perfect day for such things. The golden eye boy nudged his good mate as he headed towards their first place where they could collect some of the prizes of the night; the professor of flying office. It was there where they headed and he smirked over towards Eyre as he made casual chat, "Wait, why are we going to the flying place again? I hate flyin' mate," he said, a little laugh being produced as he rushed through the corridors of the castle with his friend, dodging other students along the way.

Zykeal was dressed up, surprisingly, as most thought him more of a serious natured person. Being raised by muggles had its advantages though and this was one of his favorite holidays in the muggle world. Zyk found it high intriguing that the wizarding world held this as one of the biggest holidays as well, it did make sense though, in a comical way. To this degree, he couldn't figure out what he wanted to be for Halloween and decided to play on the fact that muggles loved to dress up as witches and wizards for their costumes. In return, he decided to dress up as the nerdiest muggle he could think of. This side of goofiness wasn't brought out of Zykeal easily, but, he needed to let go a little bit. Though he was with one of his best mates tonight, he did though have thought of the beautiful princess run through his mind and wondered if he'd run into her tonight.

Dragging Eyre along with him, not as if he needed to, he made his way into the area where the professors' office was and spotted a ton of students already there jumping around and trying to catch things that were flying above them, "Well, this looks interesting," he joked, "You'd think they're actually muggles with the way they're just jumping around," he couldn't help but raising a hand up to the top of his head and flicking the little helicopter blade attached to the nerdy hat that he was adorning at that time. A shrug was given though and he looked over towards Eyre and offered a few more words before advancing, "If we have to sacrifice someone to get some prizes, we should find a pair of Hufflepuffs," he smirked, not knowing how the night would deliver.

It was Halloween, and Marshal was a wizard. Not for show, nor merely in costume; an authentic wizard with the ability to wave a magical stick and make something happen outside of poking himself in the eye.
How was this fact possible? He had no clue, and cared less about the answer with each passing day. The inescapable and rather delightful reality was that he had become one of the very things that he and his friends used to mock on days such as today.

It was that same surreal coincidence that had led him to choose his costume for this festive event. It was his first year knowing that he was a real wizard, and therefore, he simply could not resist the urge to don an oversized, dark blue cloak adorned with silver stars, complimented by a tall, pointed hat of the same coloration and a raggedy white beard and wig. Along with the additional wooden staff, this was precisely how the boy had always pictured the wizard called Merlin.
Some people around this school might not appreciate his play on the legendary spell caster, but the irony of the situation was entirely too spectacular to pass up. At least Marshal would have a good time; but then again, when was Marshal not having a good time?

As he hurried down the corridor, one side of his beard evidently grew tired of remaining where it was supposed to, slipping from behind his ear before falling to droop sadly in front of him, leaving that side of his face entirely exposed.
Well, that could make the outfit slightly less convincing, he thought with annoyance, coming to a halt. Propping the large staff against his side, he fumbled with the uncooperative strap, grumbling quietly about how difficult it had been to attach in the first place.
"Confound you, demon," he muttered, attempting to emulate the way an ancient wizard might speak.
Finally, he gained control, tucking the beard strap safely behind his ear and taking extra care to make it as secure as possible.
"There we are," he said, once more taking hold of the staff. "Come, Stick."

As soon as the Gryffindor entered the classroom, he spotted Leonard but ignored him completely, his gaze instead favoring the small chocolate brooms, flitting about the air above a snitch-likened bowl.
"This is the way to trick-or-treat," he said, voice filled with wonder. "I haven't truly lived on Halloween until now."
Finally, he turned to face Leo, who leaned against the wall beside the door. "Well, don't just stand there! Make that mustache proud and go catch one of those things. Watch me." With that, he leaned his staff against the wall and returned his attention to the brooms. Moving closer, he focused on one in particular. It moved sporadically, zigging, zagging, climbing up then swooping down. Given different circumstances, he might have commented that the little broom was a rather talented flyer. But he hadn't come here to compliment candy; he had come to capture it.
He noticed some students struggling to snatch a piece, while others seemed to manage with ease. By rule, Marshal was an overly friendly kid who loved everyone, but he also had a competitive side, which generally activated when he played sports, or else when he felt a desire to show off to friends, or even complete strangers. Fortunately, he had always possessed the athletic ability and quickness to back up that competitive nature, and his reflexes weren't about to fail him now. Launching himself into the air, his hand simultaneously shot forward, catching hold of the sneaky broom just before it could zip out of his reach.

He landed gracefully on his feet and held the piece of candy in front of him for inspection. It appeared to be made of milk chocolate, his personal favorite.
Turning back the way he had come, he raised the broom triumphantly for Leonard to see. "See that? Nothing to it," he exclaimed, stopping just in front of his friend.
Making a quick decision, he elected to reward himself by eating the treat then and there, rather than place it in the pillowcase he held for future consumption. He took a bite, and a wonderful sensation of taste filled his mouth.
"Mmmph," he mumbled, attempting to speak with his mouth full of sugary goodness, "This is totally worth the trip. Now go ahead, Leonardo. Every artist has a sweet tooth, right?"
Of course he knew nothing about the fabled existence of Leonardo Da Vinci's sweet tooth, but Leo's costume was too amusing to pass up making a joke or two, at the snake's expense. The play on his name was already perfect, too.
