Dmitri Jones' face was unreadable as he stepped forward to moderate the duel between
@Lamik Fillestar and @Raine Sage of Gryffindor, versus @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood and @Damion White of Ravenclaw. It was hardly an even matchup, but in this way of life, odds are in nobody's favor. Everyone had a fair chance of winning—that is, if they played their cards right.

Being a duelist himself—and a Captain, at that—the older Slytherin has seen his fair share of different people, all with varying talents and skills. And from the looks on the duelists' faces in this one, they were ready to use said skills to the best of their abilities.

With a stoic exterior, Dmitri raised a hand shoulder-height to catch the attention of duelists and spectators alike. "I'm sure you all know how this works: spells only, physical attacks a disqualifiable offense..." The blonde-haired boy let out one of the first noticeable expressions on his visage: a smirk. "...first team to get the other to unconsciousness wins and most of all... give it your absolute all. Your opponents as well as your house deserve your best performance."

Slicing his hand through the air, not unlike how he would with his own wand in his duels, Dmitri let out a clear and loud, "Begin!"

Lamik Fillestar stepped up onto the dueling stage clutching his wand tightly. The boy was clearly tense, both fear and excitement coursing through his veins as he attempted to convince himself that spells couldn't be any more painful than getting hit with bludgers. Standing there in the dueling room felt right though, much more natural then flying around in the field. Lamik didn't really believe in fate, but if he did, he may have thought that this was where he was meant to be. Obviously, the boy was only 13, so the overdramatization of everything was to be partially expected.

The young Gryffindor wasn't really familiar with anyone in the room. All he knew about his opponents was that they were second years. All he knew about the referee was that he was... a referee. While he recognized his teammate from the years that he had spent in the Gryffindor common room, he had never actually taken the time to have a proper conversation with her. Oh well. Maybe after they won they'd be able to celebrate over a cup of tea, probably recovering from their wounds in the hospital wing.

Damion was in the Dueling club. He was very excited for this. He was happy that he was chosen for dueling. He had his wand with him and was excited for what was going to happen. With excitement and a little nervousness showing on his face, Damion made his way to the dueling zone. He was not sure who his opponent was but he was going to take them down. He was determined to win this. He had not succeeded in winning the last dueling match he had been in. It was chess. But um.. still he was going to try to win this.

It passed you up and slipped you by. But we're all bound to end up back to where we started

Aida stepped onto the piste, face barely visible through her silvery white river of hair. What was a simple duel after everything Aida had been through? A trifle, a pastime? If only. As she slowly looked up to the ceiling, Aida’s hair fell away from her eyes and a cold expression emerged. If only this could be just a childish game to her.

Turning to observe Damion, Aida reached out with her senses to suss out his state of mind. She found determination, excitement, nervousness. Then casting a sudden piercing gaze across the arena, Aida studied her opponents with those incisive blue-amythyst eyes. Head cocking to the side, the pale girl smiled faintly. These were but students who walked the halls just like her, day in, day out. People. People who were probably innocent and today would only be stand-ins for the real threat. One day Aida would have to face the true enemy, the one who had hurt her friend. The one who had stolen a piece of him. Perhaps the same who had thieved a piece of her own timeline, but crucially… one day she would face the threat lurking in the blankness of a mind altered. These children before her, these surely innocent children… they would be her tool in this game that was no game. This was only training for the true battle yet to come.

A sigh left the thirteen-year-old's mouth as she stepped up onto the stage to face her opponents. She didn't even know how she managed to make it onto her house's dueling team. She was a horrible student who rarely did homework and just prefered to self-study. Hell, even self-studying flopped on her end too. She could only hope that she wouldn't let her partner down.

Turning her head to the side, she noticed the boy beside her. Her first impression was that he was a hyper kid who seemed energetic but she knew first hand that judging a person by their looks was the wrong way to go, so she was determined to learn her partner and possibly even become friends with him. She had seen him around in the common room often enough, but in the last two years she never made any other friends except for Arc. And when Arc froze at the Blossom Ball and was stuck in that state, even after the school year ended...Raine truly felt that she needed more friends. Before it was just her and Arc against the world. But now...now she knew that she couldn't be in this world alone. She needed friends. And what better chance than to start with her partner here and now.

Looking over at him, she gave him a soft smile. "We can do this. Let's do our best to make this duel a great one and beat these guys."

Almost too quick for Dmitri to catch, @Damion White pulled back his arm and cast a truly impressive Curse of the Bogies at @Lamik Fillestar. From the older Slytherin's vantage point, he could see the spell spark violently from the younger Ravenclaw's wand, sizzling towards the Gryffindor's general direction with an angry hiss. At the last moment, though, Mr. Fillestar managed to dive out of the way of the curse which then instead struck the platform right where he was standing a few seconds ago.

The floor absorbed the force of the spell, debris ricocheting of the burn mark which was starting to quickly stitch back again with the enchantments set upon it by the founders of the Duelling Club. It would have been a nasty blow if it managed to hit Lamik.

It appears luck was on the Gryffindor boy's side, though, as his answering Flipendo hit @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood true even when she tried her best to dodge all incoming attacks. The effort was not entirely futile as @Raine Sage's attempt at a Dancing-Feet spell whizzed past the pale Ravenclaw's head.

Upon first glance, the first round seemed to be going better for the Lions than it was for the Ravenclaws, but at this point, Dmitri felt inclined to withhold judgment.

The fight certainly wasn't over yet.

Damion was not happy that his spell had not hit his opponent. He was upset that his partner had got hit by a spell. He wished he could help his partner. He was still focused on making the opponents lose this duel. He was ready for the next round. He wanted to win and make his house proud of him.

Lamik just barely ducked out of the way as a spell flew past, nearly hitting him head-on. He had no idea what spell it was, and quite frankly he didn't WANT to know. All that mattered was his own target, and this focus paid off as he managed to hit the girl. One hit obviously wasn't enough to win the game, however, so there was more work to do.
