2020, Stage 1 Group D: Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff

"Flipendo!" she had said, which had meant to send the girl named Lucia flying back, but had been dodged at just the right moment.

Rose sidestepped the spell that was hurled at her, instinct kicking in as it came flying at her. Thankfully, she was able to get out of the way of the spell.

Rose immediately envied Lucia Fox. The only one whose spell had hit. Eyre. And it marked the Gryffindors as the underdogs the moment the charm hit Eyre, which Rose hated. At least it hadn't been anything to really harm him, just temporarily harm him. In the back of her mind, Rose heard him insist he was okay. Eyre had gone through worse than a green sparks charm. But that did not mean that fury didn't ignite in her. She didn't care that they were dueling and that was what they were supposed to do.

Nobody. Hurts. Eyre.

Rose bit back a snarl, her fantasy of being a famous actress dissolving. She didn't need it anymore. Her focus was now working with her adrenaline, being powered by it.

Round Two

It really seemed like the gods were favoring one specific person today. Mars let out a low whistle as the next round of spells flew across the piste. Ah, this was exciting—the rush of spells had them itching to jump out there, a niggling voice in the back of their head chastising them. Focus on the match Mars, come on.

Nearly everyone had cast at the same person this time around, but each of the spells was different. Mars watched Eyre's Flipendo spiral at Logan, half a mind still caught on the Verdimillious from earlier. They had a hunch... ah yeah, their fears were confirmed as they watched the Gryffindor's spell whiz past its target. Seems like that flash really had done something.

Logan, in turn, fired a Dancing-Feet Spell at Rose, who dove out of the way. Mars recognized the red of Incendio blast out of the lioness' wand, streaking its way towards Lucia once again. The Hufflepuff nimbly dodged, her own Knockback Jinx returning the favor. This time though, it made solid contact with Rose on the other side. Mars bit back a smile. That was some luck the Badger had.

They sat back on their heels with a smile. The match was far from over and lord, they were excited.

Why did the entire world love Lucia Fox today? She was able to dodge both of Rose's spells and both of her spells were able to hit both of the Gryffindors.

Rose was knocked backwards by her spell, slipping on her own two feet awkwardly and falling on her behind, attempting to catch herself with her left hand, which must have gotten twisted or somehing. She quickly scrambled up to her feet, angling herself with her right hand, which was still grasping her wand, in front of her. "I'm okay," she whispered, if Eyre was even listening.

This sure sucked for Rose and Eyre. She wondered for a moment if Lucia (or maybe someone else) was cheating somehow, but that was just her frustration talking. It's not like some unseen being was deciding stuff like that. Or maybe Lucia was just amazing. Or maybe Rose just sucked. She cleared her mind and prepared for the next round, forcing herself to relax. Even though it looked bad for them, Eyre was okay. She was okay. They needed to win this.

Logan aimed her wand at Rose and growled in frustration as her spell missed the target for the second time. She couldn't understand why her spells continued to miss, but she was not going to give up hope just because she could seem to focus. The young Hufflepuff could hear her best friend in the crowd cheering her on as she quickly took a deep breath in to calm herself down.

"We can do this Lucia," Logan called out to her partner with a smile on her face as she prepared herself for what was to come.

Eyre started to feel self-doubt nibble at the edges of his confidence once he saw Rose flying backwards, but he wasn’t about to lose.

“Good... Hang in there. We still have a chance.” He whispered back, trying to center himself. He hoped to God that they’d be able to pull themselves together, but he knew his luck was being less than reliable that day.

He glared at the crowd where Henry was enthusiastically encouraging his girlfriend and not him. “Maybe figure out what team you’re rooting for, Knight! If I go down, Rose goes down too!” He shouted, trying to channel his anger into pulling himself through the competition.

Lucia and Logan both shot a spell towards Rose at the same time. The Gryffindor jumped out of the way of Logan's Dancing Feet Spell, and immediately sent a Fire Making Spell at Lucia. Immediately, the raven-haired girl dived out of the way, and perhaps her instincts as a Hufflepuff saved her because the spell missed.
A second later, the Knockback Jinx that Lucia had sent towards Rose hit, and the Hufflepuff grinned in pride.
"Yeah!" she smiled to her partner, and tried to ignore the shouts from the onlookers - mostly friendly ones, though, thank goodness. She turned for a tiny moment (Lucia didn't want to miss anything, oh no,) and quickly murmured a "Thanks," in the general direction of @Scarlett Aden, if she had even heard. Who knew, maybe the girl could lipread? She gave a little awkward thumbs-up to the boy [@Henry Knight] cheering for her and Logan - even if he didn't seem to know Lucia's name - and turned quickly back to the match.

Round Three

Mars couldn't help but smile as they caught some of the banter happening between the duellist and spectators. They hadn't even realized there would be spectators, but it seemed that the four duellists on the piste had some dedicated friends. Clearing their throat, they focused back on the field.

It was easy to see the Gryffindors' growing frustration with a certain Lucia Fox, both from the look on their faces and the two spells that hurtled her way. Knockback and Incendio, hmm? A deadly combination, if they hit. Unfortunately, Lucia really was on the top of her game today, because she easily evaded Rose's spell. Mars watched with wide eyes as Eyre's flames nearly brushed the tip of her robes, but as the beam fizzled out, it was clear that the Badger hadn't been affected.

Mars hardly had time to whip around to see that the Hufflepuffs had chosen a similar stragey, both spells targeting Eyre. Mars winced as Logan's red spiral flew at him, a large singe appearing on the boy. Perhaps a small bit of silver lining was that it didn't burst into flames—but it really was minuscule as Lucia's Mucus ad Naseam barreled into him. Immediately, the lion's face flushed an odd shade of green and snot starting running out his nose.

Mars looked away, wincing. Ah, that wouldn't be fun to clean up. They felt sorry for Eyre too and sorry for the Gryffindors in general. Unfortunetly, there wasn't much to be done since they were meant to be impartial but still—

"Come on, guys! Chin up, you got this!" There, that would have to do.

Spectator Thread: Day 1, Groups D-F

Logan aimed her wand at Eyre and watched as part of his robes sparked. Even though his robes hadn't caught fire, she was still impressed that she managed to hit him with the spell. A grin formed on her face as Lucia's spell him the Gryffindor boy as well.

"Good job, Lucia." Logan called out as the other Hufflepuff managed to avoid getting hit by both spells aimed towards her. Keeping her cool, the girl looked over at her two opponents with a grin on her face.

This was truly terrible. His spell hadn't hit, and instead, he was hit with Mucus Ad Nauseum- he'd quickly learn that this was by far one of the worst spells that'd ever been cast on him. Eyre began to cough and hack, an overabundance of snot running down his nose.

"K-Keep with it, Rose! A-CHOO!" His body was racked with a brutal sneezing fit, his arms wrapping around his stomach as he tried to keep himself together.

Eyre eventually cupped his nose with the edge of his robe to regain some sort of dignity as he hastily cast his next spell.

Oh heck no.

This was not going the way Rose wanted it to. They still had a fighting chance, Rose knew, but it would be much harder. Seriously, Lucia's luck couldn't last forever.

She could hear Henry and Scarlett cheering her on, though Eyre had shot back something at Henry. What was that about? No matter. The fourth time's the charm. "Come on, Rose." she growled at herself.
