Day of Rain Quidditch Ravenclaw v Hufflepuff

The brunette had kicked off when the game started, reaching her hands out for the quaffle. Surprisingly it was a good start, she got her hands on the quaffle but wasn't able to score. She cursed herself but her confidence had slowly faded from the countless times in previous games where she failed to score. Another attempt at a grab was made but she lost hold of the quaffle to the Raven's. Whether it was the rain or another component she didn't know. So far the game was progressing slowly. Ravenclaw had scored a goal but neither seekers caught sign of anything and one beater was now sharing a broom thanks to Reid's amazing strength and accuracy. Annie pumped her fist and circled back around. So far, so good.

Day of Rain Quidditch Ravenclaw v Hufflepuff
Although Cecily was aware that a bodyblow was a rather underhanded move, it wasn't technically a penalty, and that was good enough for her books. Maybe it was karma, then, that as she and Lavinia moved to squeeze the quaffle out of Annie's determined fingers, the Hufflepuff managed to just slip out of their narrow pinch and fly off with the ball, leaving the two Ravenclaws to collide. As she pulled away, saying a quick word to Lavinia to make sure she was okay, she heard the announcer make a snide remark about the two Chasers' unfortunate collision. What was it with Quidditch announcers and an attitude? She supposed it made the sport considerably more interesting and bearable to the spectators, but still-- they could all stand to take it down a notch. Or several.

Recovering from the embarrassment of that failure, Cecily found herself squeezing the Quaffle from yet another Hufflepuff Chaser, and this time with considerably more success. As the ball landed securely in her hands, she took off down the pitch, her field of vision narrowing to the hoops and the keeper, and the Quaffle in her hands. Moments later, she watched it sail clearly through the top-most hoop, the badger keeper far behind. She grinned as the Ravenclaws inched into the lead, ten points closer to a win, before swinging her broom around and looking to the sidelines as the sound of her name reached her ears. Although she couldn't make out the words, she saw a certain red-haired Hufflepuff on her feet, screaming bloody murder towards the skies. Cecily, aware that there was exactly one person in the school who could scream her name loud enough to be heard from the bench, smirked and waved at Ami before heading back into the fray.

Day of Rain Quidditch Ravenclaw v Hufflepuff
A Ravenclaw scored. Too bad.

Lindsey kept her eyes wide open for the game. She was pretty glad to see her fellow puff managed to bludger the opposite seeker. But he was saved. Though, Quinn managed to save Ethen somehow as well, so that’s pretty a draw.

They could win. They had been undefeated for the whole season last year, and her fellow badgers were just so united and strong. They had made a great deal of damage to the opposite seeker just now, hadn’t they? And they could do better. This was just the beginning.

Day of Rain Quidditch Ravenclaw v Hufflepuff

The rain continued to pour as everyone took their positions, and Aaron heard the announcer talking about Hufflepuff's win over Durmstrang as the Hogwarts Champions. That verbal reminder made him grin as he faced the opposing chasers. He knew each of their names from the time he had spent studying the Ravenclaw Quidditch team prior to this. Cecily Quinn - the newly appointed Co-Captain of the team. She used to be a prefect, but gave up that position for this one. Or so he heard. Lavinia Cloven - he didn't know much about her other than she was an upperclassmen as well. And Miranda Everest - a girl in his own year that he vaguely knew from classes. These were his opponents today, and none of them particularly intimidated him. They were strong players for sure, but they were up against the Hogwarts Champions. Today wasn't going to go their way.

Aaron looked beside himself and nodded to Serena Bowen and Annie Morgan. They were the Chasers by his side today, and he had a lot of faith in them after that brutal game against Durmstrang. His dark eyes turned to the referee at last as he approached with the quaffle. His grip on his new moontrimmer tightened and his body tensed, prepared to launch after it. Through the rain, he saw the quaffle drop and the game was on.

Aaron bolted forward for the quaffle, but Annie got there first. He smirked slightly, allowing his eyes to wander now that he didn't need to grab the quaffle. That's when he noticed that Miranda had disappeared leaving only Lavinia and Cecily. And they hadn't even gone for the quaffle! His eyes widened as he realized what they were about to do. "Annie, watch out!" he called, but the rain drowned out his words. A bodyblow. Aaron was more than familiar with it, because that's the technique he employed during the game against Durmstrang. It was only really used when the opponent team was known to be good at getting the quaffle, and you wanted to bully it off of them. Maybe he should be flattered to think that the opposing team saw their accurate nabbing of the quaffle as a threat, but he was just annoyed that they were using such a technique. It was hard to get out of.

Aaron couldn't make it there in time to help, but Annie turned out not to need it! She nimbly dodged the two Ravenclaw chasers, and Aaron cheered for her as she made a run for the goal. There was a new keeper today - a first year probably, since Aaron didn't immediately recognize him from last year. And he was apparently talented, because he stopped Annie's goal attempt easily! Aaron grimaced from where he was on the field, but got prepared for the next quaffle round.

Again, he shot off in pursuit of the ball and this time he actually caught it! What a turn around from the Durmstrang game - but he had to remind himself he was only getting it because the Ravenclaw chasers were employing that stupid bodyblow maneuver. He braced himself for the impact of them, severely underestimating their blow. The quaffle fell from his arms and Cecily caught it. Aaron was frustrated by the loss and whipped around in the rain to chase after her.

Atlas was in the Hufflepuff goals this time, and it was her first official game. Willow leaving the team had been sad, but he was happy that Atlas would be getting a chance to shine next. Unfortunately, she didn't shine this round as Cecily faked her out and sent the quaffle flying through the goal hoops. Of course Aaron blamed himself partially for that - since the quaffle was stolen right from him - but he had to keep his head in the game. This was only the opening minutes of the match and they had plenty of time for a comeback.

Back to the center for the next quaffle toss, and this time Annie got the quaffle. He'd felt the cold travel down his back and it had distracted him - probably the rain, because what else could it be? He needed to pay better attention. Once again, Annie was bodyblowed and she lost the quaffle this time. Aaron was quick to chase after Cecily this time, hoping that either he could get to her first or that Atlas could make her first save. It ended up being the latter, and Atlas did it in such an impressive way that Aaron's mouth fell open! He didn't have much time to process, because she sent the quaffle rocketing at him and he caught it instinctively. Right! Back to the Ravenclaw side.

It was his first time during this match that he would be facing the new Ravenclaw keeper, and he had his game face on. As he threw the quaffle, though, it fell miserably short. Again, a chill down his spine had distracted him. What was going on?

Rain pelted his face as he soared through the air. Jorah found his target. He gripped his bat tight and smacked the nearest bludger with all his might. Miss! What, nooo! His opponent evaded his attack without so much as a scratch. Jorah was distracted. This was the first match of the new year. The first match without Ruthie. She loved quidditch, she should've have been here. Jorah enjoyed quidditch more than anything in the world, but the absence of his friend was now overshadowing the joy he had for the sport. Focus! Despite feeling under the weather, Reid's expression — sharp and on high alert, poised itself for a fight or flight and flashed like cold steel in his evergreen eyes. Technique was everything to him and if he pulled this off right, he could make his mark. Arm loose but pulled back at the ready, he waited for the play to happen. When it finally became clear that he was meant to go for Neculai, the beater made a dash right for the bludger that soared through the air.

Arm tilted and turning, he adjusted in accordance to the position of the Ravenclaw seeker. Sturdy wood on iron resounded with a crack and all that pent up energy was delivered within the projectile. The feeling caught his arm, a resounding aftershock that quickly traveled from the bat and up to his shoulder. Reid didn't have time to truly think before something in the corner of his eye had him see the other bludger. Lightning flashed and the glint was fast approaching, causing him to throw himself to the side and under. As it soared by, he continued on. It was close, a little too close for his comfort.

The Chasers were going ham on the Quaffle this time.

"AAAAND Lavinia snatches the Quaffle! And she's going for Atlas! Can he continue to defend his goalposts?!"

Apparently, she could. When Lavinia threw the Quaffle, not only was it simply the wimpiest throw of all time due to a crit fail, Atlas zoomed downward, punted the Quaffle high into the air, and repeated her awesome anime kick, rocketing the Quaffle back onto the field.

"And once again, Atlas defends his goals! He is undoubtedly one of the best boys the Keeper position has ever seen! What an alpha male!! He-

Wait WHAT?! With a Finbourgh Flick, Aaron scores! 10 points to Hufflepuff!! WOOOOO!!!"

After another squabble, Lavinia again got the Quaffle. But, when she threw, Atlas once again blocked. Though with less flair than before.

"Lavinia just hogging the Quaffle! Can she score this time?!
OOOOH nope! Atlas blocks again! SHE simply refuses to let Lavinia have any glory!!"

Annie grabbed the Quaffle, and they repeated their strategy, only for Aaron to hesitate. Almost as if time had stopped due to a vampire's weird ability, and missed the Quaffle.

"Ooooo. Ouch. An epic fail on Aaron's part! But there go the Chasers again! Who's gonna get it this time?!"

They all battled it out, but that weird thing happened, and took what was probably going to be a third grab in a row from Lavinia, and snatched it from her.

"And Annie has the Quaffle yet AGAIN! Is there gonna be another goal???"

In a show of heroism, Rohan raced to the goal, and stuck his limbs out, and blocked the Quaffle.

"OOOH!!! And a save from Rohan!!! The Keepers are on FIRE today! No offense, Hufflepuffs, didn't mean to trigger flashbacks!!"

It has come to my attention that Lucille posted AFTER the due date. Therefore, her action is nullified.

The Beaters were getting in on the action too. Well, except for Quinn, who continued to protect Ethen.

Reid seemed to have a serious vendetta against Neculai, as he shot yet another bludger at him, and the person who he was bumming a ride off of. Poor Miranda was also hit, and the two of them fell off the broom, and landed with a not very pleasant sound.

"And ANOTHER hit from Reid Kovacs! Now he's gone to brutalizing little girls! Not cool bro.
HAA! Im just kidding. This is Quidditch, who the hell's gonna get offended by violence here?!
But, this has knocked both Neculai AND Miranda out of the game! Can we get some replacements on deck? We got a few holes in Ravenclaw's ship over here! Reid REALLY knows how to handle his big iron balls!!
......Oh.... weird again...."

Jorah, apparently, was getting sick of Reid bullying his teammates. So, he launched his own bludger at Quinn. Quinn, somehow, managed to dodge.

"Oh, and a failed bludgering by Jorah! Just goes to show, don't think you can always hit a guy just cuz he's 5 times bigger than you!"

Lucille, on the other hand, did not take such a thing to heart, and smashed Quinn with a bludger. But once again, he just shrugged the damage off.

"Lucille STILL trying to chip away at the Iron Wall Badger! I dunno if it's working or not!"

Neculai was making no attempt to find the snitch. Partly because he was trying to return to his broom, but mostly because he and Miranda were a tangled mess on the ground, limbs facing every which way, not all of which are supposed to be that way.

Ethen however, caught sight if a glint of gold flitting about by his right, and took off after it.

"Oh, and whats this?! It looks like the Hufflepuff Seeker Ethen Emrys found something! Lemme just announce that to the entire Ravenclaw team, ETHEN EMRYS HAS FOUND THE SNITCH!!!!

Maybe they should've stuck with the underhanded bodyblow, Cecily thought, as she heard the announcer award another ten points-- to Hufflepuff. As she recovered from three failed Quaffle grabs in a row (last round must have been a fluke), Cecily was hit with the crushing realisation that this game would definitely not be going as planned. Neculai and Miranda were plummeting to the ground-- barely a few minutes in, and the Hufflepuff beaters were landing some solid hits-- they were tied for points, and Hufflepuff's seeker had caught a glimpse of the snitch. Cecily took a deep breath and dove back into the chaos. They still had time to pull it together, to sneak out a win. Cecily was confident in her team. River would be taking Neculai's place, and even though she would be just a tad behind, Cecily knew she was a talented seeker, and might be just what the Ravenclaws needed to secure their victory.

Neculai was caught, despite the beating he had given him and he was perfectly fine with that. Reid knew he still had that reeling guilt that he'd sometimes get from knocking a person off. The badger wasn't a cruel individual and he understood the game, but he was still worried that he did some sort of damage to someone that was beyond repair. Apprehension only lasted for a second before his mind kicked the sentiments to the proverbial curb, he needed to keep his head in the game.

The signal was given, he knew what he had to do and just how he could do it. Reid drew upwards, rain pelting his features as he tried to get a vantage over Neculai and Miranda. He raised his bat and rolled his shoulders to released the built up tension from his vice grip. Mjolnir never really failed him so far, he considered it lucky in many regards. Not a split second longer, Reid dove and drew his arm back to swing at iron ball in his sights.

The beater was going to finish what he started, albeit this was going to make him wince. Like the hammer of a gun his arms went off and had the bat collide with the bludger. His intention was to hit it with such force that the pair would be knocked off, the faster he got it done, the better. His aim was true in the end as he sent it right into the pair, he grimaced for a brief second as he saw them plummet. He flew faster, bat raised for a moment as he wryly smiled at the rest of his team.
