Finding your place private closed

Richard was sitting on the top most tree branch in courtyard after the charms class and watching some 2^nd and 3^rd witches and wizards playing pranks on each others while 1^st year students playing gob stones and chatting about there experience at Hogwarts, As he was spectating the courtyard from the tree branch he saw 1^st year Raven Claw student sitting near the fountain buried in her books and notes, who keeps looking at the sky from time to time as she was noticing the time, he focuses on the books which seemed to be about charms, his attention was completely caught as charms is one of his favorite subject, he jumped down from the tree and approaches her, and tries to get her attention "Hi, I am Richard, first year like you, I love charms its one of my favorite subject, if you don't mind can I sit beside you and look at your books as well ?"

Lorelei glanced up to check how late it was again and was surprised to see a Griffindor boy about her age standing over her. He introduced himself and asked to look at her Charms books.

"Oh, uh, sure." she said, scooting over to let him sit or kneel to look.

"They aren't all on charms. I got my parents to give me a set of Greek to English and Latin to English dictionaries that have a whole thing on languages that stem from them and variations on different words. The etymology of different charm is fascinating to me, I want to create my own spells one day. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to create a variation or modification for a spell, since that seemed like a good way to practice" she tapped her pencil on her pad "So far, I've got an idea for a Lumos alteration, but I need to figure out what specific word to use as a base if a Greek word or Latin one, or something from another Latin based language maybe." she shrugged, uncertain.

"Not like I'll actually make one at Hogwarts, especially not this year. I mean, I'm a first-year. Plus I'd need somewhere to test, and charms are complicated."

Katie was strolling through the courtyard when she noticed some people chatting about charms. As she had been just searching for a place to read, she decided she might as well say hello instead. Katie strolled over to where they were talking. Hi, I'm Katie! she greeted brightly. I couldn't help but overhear your conversation, and I wanted to say that I find chasm etymology fascinating. I think you'll need to learn a lot about it though if you ever start creating your own charms and spells. Katie added. She at the two others. Are you guys also first years? she asked, stool paying a bit more attention to her own book in her hands than her surroundings. Hey book was a small navy blue book that was an encyclopedia of all the potions taught at Hogwarts and their uses. She'd found it in the library and checked it out because it had looked interesting. The potions were arranged in alphabetical order, and she'd checked it out last Wednesday. Currently, she was on M.
Katie paused reading and looked up to see if they would reply. She'd always been a bit introverted and shy, but that didn't mean Katie wouldn't introduce herself to new people out try to make acquaintances or friends.

Richard sits down beside the Ravenclaw girl, as she made a place for him to sit down, and listens to her about the books and her ambitions to create a new charm, he exclaims "wow, creating a new spell or charm can be cool, I wish you good luck",Richard picks up a dictionary and flips its pages like he was trying to find something,He points at the word and says "I think Lumos Maxima will do since Maxima is a Latin word and it means maximum in this century's language, by the way you still haven't introduced yourself. and you can test your Lumos maxima at the training grounds many students practice their spells there." As they were discussing about the charms their attention was caught by a girl who introduced herself as Katie, Richard politely introduce himself as well " Hi, Katie I am Richard a first year student just like you, and yeah I find charms a fascinating subject myself". Since Richard's aim is to be an Auror he knows that he must excel in potions and defense against dark arts, and was attracted toward the potion's encyclopedia, He tries to get Katie's attention who was drowned in that book, "Um... Do you like potions ?, I.. Uh.. don't like that subject but since my aim is to be an Auror I need to excel in this subject, so once you done reading this book, let me know I want to check it out too,"

Lorelei looked up from her notes as someone else approached and asked if she could join them
[color-=#0000BF]"Sure... WAIT A MINUTE!"[/color] she stared at the first year Slytherin girl standing in front of her "Don't I know you? Katie, right? From the Hogwarts Express?" she gave a small laugh "Funny coincidence, huh?" She shifted so Katie could join them, then started to rearrange her books and notes. She turned to Richard at his suggestion "That is the sort of idea I'm going for, but that specific modification already exists. That's how I got the idea to try one for Lumos first. Good suggestion though. she smiled "Oh, and my name's Lorelei. I've been thing about Occultatum or Absconditum actually, they're Latin words for hidden. The idea would be to make it so that only the caster or a select few people would be able to see or make use of the light, or to dim the light so it isn't painfully bright when cast in a dark room." she shrugged
"Modfying and creating spells is difficult. Still, it's fun to learn about ancient languages along the way. And like I said, it's more a long term goal. Get some ideas down now, and when I graduate. I can test and experiment."

After Lorelei's explanation, Richard scratches his head and thinks, "yeah it can be difficult to invent a spell, but at least we have info about the kind of spell and have in mind what kind of variation we want". He replies to Lorelei "yeah.. I know that is the known variation of the spell since we will be taught in coming years, I suggested it because it may help us invent a new variation of Lumos." He turns his attention back to the dictionary and flips pages, suddenly he snaps his finger and almost yelled "GOT IT !" then turns to Lorelei and suggested "how about Lumos Minima ? its a latin word and an opposite to Maxima, Like when we cast it it wont be as bright as lumos and dim enough that only people in close proximity can see us or we can see in close proximity without getting ourselves blind."
