Today was the day that Santario got to oversee her first duel since becoming the co-captain of Slytherin’s duel team. Her skin tingled like it was alive with electricity and excitement as she made her way into the duel arena. Santario's face was mostly passive with just the hint of a smile playing at the corners of her lips as she scanned the duelists and spectators. “Welcome to Stage One Group A of the duelling championships where we will see Ravenclaw face off against Hufflepuff!” She called out, getting everyone’s attention before continuing on. “For those who do not know me, I am Santario Martin, the Slytherin Co-Captain, and I will be overseeing this duel. So without further ado, let’s get @Dealla Prince, @Pericles Dralt, @Amadea Campbell, and @Lydia Cooper in the arena!”

Santario would step backward out of the arena, now standing on the sidelines, giving her a proper view of the two teams. “Remember this is a spells only affair, and any physical attacks will get you immediately disqualified from the match and possibly removed from your team. May your aim be true, best of luck, and do your house proud. You may begin!”

1| I am on vacation from October 10th – October 18th which means I will not be producing a mod until October 19th.
2| Regardless of my absence you will have 72 hours from my timestamp to post your entrances and owl me, Santario Martin, your moves. So get them in before Monday, October 12th to the time in my timestamp. This is to remain fair to the other Duellists that have to maintain their time constraint.
3| The word count requirement for duels is 50 words per post, but you may post more if you would like. Please do not describe your action before it is described in the mod otherwise you are giving the opposing team an advantage to strategize against you.
4| Any submissions after the 72-hour timestamp will not be counted. Failing to give actions means your team does nothing but passively dodges. Failing to post even though your action has been submitted means your action is void.
5| Your stats, abilities, and spells have been locked in as of posting this thread.

As she stepped in front of the heavy oak doors, Lydia’s heart was beating so loud that she thought it would have flew out of her chest at any moment. Her first duel ever -of the season and of her life- was about to start, and not only was she a part of it, but she was also the Captain of the Hufflepuff team. When she had found out she had gotten the part, Lydia had felt such a sense of pride that she actually teared up a little bit; if during the first year she had struggled a little bit with being out there, this year the young badger had decided to come out of her shell and show the world who she really was.

Walking inside, she could see a lot of students already gathered around the duelling strip, all chatting excited as they waited for the duel to start. She quickly walked toward there as well, and once Santario, the Slytherin Co-Captain and host of that duel, called the participants of the duel up on the strip, the red headed girl walked up the stairs and placed herself next to her duelling partner, the Hufflepuff Co-Captain Amadea Campbell. They had met the previous year at the party that Professor Jensen had organised in the Hufflepuff common room as a thank you for their quest, and Lydia had to admit that she was particularly excited at the idea of duelling together with a fourth year.
Nodding at Santatio’s words, Lydia then got ready to start, her eyes concentrated on the other team’s duellists, Pericles and another girl that she didn’t know, but that the Slytherin Co-Cap had called Dealla.

“We can do this Amadea! Let’s show them what badgers are made of,” Lydia said the other Hufflepuff girl, a little smirk on her face as her heart kept beating fast, the adrenaline high in her veins.

Then the duel started, and Lydia aimed her wand towards her target.

Pericles had begun his Hogwarts career with little experience in teamwork. The division of a student body into four Houses had seemed, at the time, to be more a matter of organization rather than anything significant. Then through the course of his first year, he came to learn precisely what team-based pride felt like. Ravenclaw had battled for points, for scholastic dominance, hell: even for survival, on one fateful occasion. They were as a bookish little army, bound by their collective drive to excel. This opportunity to represent Ravenclaw on the duelling stage had his heart brimming with purpose (if a sprinkling of anxiety). Sure, many of Pericles' dearest friends belonged to the other houses. He beamed with boyish excitement while climbing the piste stairs, scanning the crowd with hopes of spying familiar faces. Yet today, his devotion was to Ravenclaw, driven as he was to do right by his House.

The young wizard cast a confident smile to his teammate and captain, Dealla, before glancing down the way towards their combatants. He really rather liked Lydia, and had seen once before what Amadea was capable of. Pericles wouldn't do them the disservice of holding back. He had come prepared to give his all, to see if his aspen wand upheld its reputation as a "silver spear" in dueling. It was drawn and held up, the standard bow offered to his opponents (was this still a standard? no matter; he had his old-fashioned habits), and assumed a readied stance alongside Dealla. He heeded Santario's instructions with great care, focused expression doing well to hide the fact that he felt like fireworks were crackling in his stomach. Sleepy stare and mild manner bled away for something solid and sharply alert. His eyes gave away nothing until the moment they locked onto a target, wand arcing upwards.
Action: Smiling at the crowd, bowing to opponents, and casting as strategized.

When her name was called, Dee was already bouncing on the balls of her feet, the energy and excitement coursing through her veins making it impossible to keep still. This was not just the first duelling season with her as captain of the Ravenclaw team, no, it was also her first (official) duel ever, aside from some unfortunate events better not talked about and the Chess Combat event in summer. That had been fun, but this was different. Her house was counting on her, Pericles was counting on her, and at this moment, all eyes in the room were directed at them. And still, it wasn't nervousness she felt, it was exhilaration. Excitement deep in her chest, beating to the surface, and a wide grin on her face.

She knew one of their opponents a little, Amadea, who she'd met in the corridors just a few weeks ago when they'd noted the similarity of their nicknames, but she had no idea about either of their adversaries' abilities. And yet, she felt good, confident. Facing a fourth year might be intimidating for some, but for Dee, it just made the spirit of competition flare up in her chest. This would be a challenge, but after some time spent with Pericles, practicing and strategising, she didn't doubt they were up to the task.

As she stepped into the arena, Dee directed her smile at Santario first, then at Lydia and Amadea across from them. They might be her opponents today, but she didn't have a personal problem with them. That didn't mean she didn't intend to stomp them into the ground, however. She was going to defend her pride, her own and her House's.

While Santario reminded them of the rules, Dee took a centering breath, her restless energy morphing into a sharper focus. She returned Pericles's smile with one of her own. "Let's go, we got this," she said confidently, and readied herself. When Santario told them to begin, Dee didn't hesitate.

𝓐madea took a deep breath and steadied herself as her name was called. She and her fellow captain, Lydia Cooper, were about to compete in the first duel of the season. The pressure was on. Now that Amadea was Co-Captain, she felt even more immense pressure to prove herself to her team. After all, the duelling team was supposed to look up to her for guidance and if she unperformed in this duel, then what would they have to look up to? At the same time, she was trying to not put too much pressure on herself. She knew that if she built up this moment and added anxiety to herself, she wouldn't be able to do her best during the duel. But Amadea knew that once the duel started, she would be less jittery. Somehow, all of her fears were put on the back burner once the duel began and the only thing she focused on was casting spells.

Amadea only half listened to the moderator as she explained the duelling rules; she already knew them and instead focused on taking deep breaths to get into the right headspace. She looked over at Lydia and gave the Hufflepuff a brief smile. "Yes, we got this!" she said with a smile. They were going to do great. Amadea also smiled back at the two people across from them, Dealla and Pericles. While Amadea had mixed feelings about the Ravenclaw prefect standing opposite her, she had no hard feelings against Dealla and would happily return the smile. She couldn't wait to prove to them how formidable Hufflepuff was; the Blazing Badgers were ready to dominate the duelling field. With that, Amadea steadied herself, grasping her wand tightly in her hand, ready to cast her first spell.

Can you feel it? The crackle in the air that makes the hairs on your arms stand on end right before the lightning strikes. It flooded the atmosphere for both Duellists and Spectators alike in the few moments before the duel started, but lightning would strike once it did. Spells went off from every opponent, the two girls with a far too similar nickname Amadea and Dealla targeting each other, and Lydia and Pericles going after each other.

While both of the girls casting at each other did so successfully, it would seem that both of them had brought their A-game dancing around each other’s spells with ease. The same could not be said for Pericles and Lydia. Lydia gracefully dodged Pericles, but perhaps the girl was just too distracting. Whether Pericles was into girls or not, there could be no denying Lydia’s aesthetic both with Part-Veela and Lovely Creature under her belt, she was still a work of art; the girl hit her mark dead on. Pericles would not only find himself singed but also caught on fire. While it didn’t seem like the fire would last long, a fire was a fire. Was Ravenclaw willing to allow the extra damage to occur?

𝓢pells were flying back and forth and Amadea tried her hardest to focus and hit the other team. The pressure really was on and by trying not to think about it, Amadea was only succeeding in thinking about it more. She attempted to cast the Dancing Feet Spell toward the Ravenclaw captain, Dealla, but the spell missed as the Ravenclaw adeptly averted her spell. Amadea was easily able to avoid Dealla's spell as well. So far, the only spell that had hit was Lydia's spell toward Pericles. That made her feel a bit better; at least she wasn't the only one who had a spell that missed. "Good job!" she said to Lydia as they prepared for the next round. "We got this!"

The moment the duel started, Lydia tried her best to concentrate on her target while also making sure to know what else was happening around her. She could see Amadea cast at Dealla, while the Ravenclaw Captain did the same towards the Hufflepuff Co-Captain, and for a second Lydia got worried that her fellow badger might get hit, but that was not the case.

Feeling better about that, she concentrate fully on Pericles, that decided to aim for her. She managed to dodge his attack, only to then cast her Incendio towards the Ravenclaw boy; the moment the spell hit him, a big smile appeared on the young veela's face, the excitment for the duel growing even bigger.

"Thanks!" she said to Amadea as she gave her a big smile and nodded, before setting her eyes on the target of the next round.

Each step towards the stage had strengthened Pericles' resolve, or, so he believed. A voice from the crowd saw him grinning gladly as he climbed the steps, briefly bashful gaze flickering for the floor as he was called out before a crowd. Yet when the moment came to cast, the mind of a twelve-year-old proved to be, unsurprisingly, susceptible to distraction. He had waved his wand at Lydia Cooper once before at the start of the year. At the time, it was to dry her robes after she had been tossed into the lake, and the boy found it a funny flip of fate that he was now trying to give her a cold. "Mucus ad Nauseam!"

Peri would pay for letting his mind wander when the witch was now his opponent. Not only had his cast gone wide, he was struck in turn, hit for the first time with an Incendio. A dancing flame leapt to life on the outside of his robes, eliciting not a cry but a jagged inhale. The gasp was sucked through tense teeth while eyes widened, startled by the unfamiliar agony, though the pain- and seeing her smile triumphantly on the other end of the piste- served as a searing reminder to stay on task.

Dee cursed under her breath as her spell flew wide, not even coming close to hitting Amadea. Of course she hadn't expected the blonde to be an easy target - she was a fourth year, her experience and abilities should naturally not be underestimated. But it still stung her pride. At least she had sidestepped the returning spell from the older Hufflepuff just as neatly, had never been in any danger, really.

A glance to the side told her that Pericles hadn't fared as well, if the singed smell in the air, the light trail of smoke rising from somewhere next to her was any indication, and Dee took a deep breath, in and out. "Let's get them," she repeated, trying to sound reassuring. The smile had long since faded from her face, replaced by a look of single-minded concentration. There were few things that got her as focused as a direct competition, and even fewer things that were as satisfying when she succeeded.

Another breath. Her next spell would not miss.
