Awkward Day
@Willow Anderson
Here he was once again in the courtyard, but this time Quinn the strange Half-Giant found himself sat upon the edge of the fountain that acted as the centerpiece of the beautiful courtyard. One leg was crossed over he other as he was sketching something. It was extremely rough at the moment and honestly not that good. But Quinn had been working at it since he got there 20 minutes prior.
It appeared to be a sketching of the courtyard and some of the students milling about. Quinn would look up occasionally before going back to his sketching getting quite engrossed in it. Quinn had noticed but willingly ignored the undoubtable stares he was receiving considering his very immense size. Quinn stood out like a sore thumb, this fact only helped by the very beautiful and almost ethereal like feline Irene. She was curled up right next to his leg and he would occasionally pet her eliciting a loud audible purr from the feline.
Perhaps helped by her and the very calm expression on his face Quinn seemed to emit a very calming presence. He may have gotten stares and a few nasty ones from the few purebloods that passed by but mostly everyone left him the prefect alone. Aside from very few students pretty much everyone had the common sense to not provoke Quinn or any of the other Part-Giants at Hogwarts. It was a recipe for disaster. One Quinn felt far too many times.
His hair had grown longer once again reaching passed his shoulders and today he had left it free flowing. It was like an intense dark burnt orange, but most noticeably on his freckle plastered face was the addition of a beard, a currently short and growing beard but mostly full beard nonetheless. It was quite messy and patchy in places and Quinn would occasionally scratch that as well mumbling curses to himself about having to learn to shave. The curses of giant blood one supposed.

Willow had always enjoyed drawing outside ever since she was a kid. It was a hobby she kept going as she attended Hogwarts. It almost gave her a sense of home whenever she did it. She could imagine her parents not too far away, checking in on her progress every now and again to see what she had come up with. She mostly worked in drawing landscapes, real things, tangible things. This year she had slowly started working into the abstract, trying to express feelings and thoughts through her art rather than just what was around her. It was a challenge that wasn't coming easy to her, especially with the storm of a mind that she had recently.
On her back was a yellow bag, not for art supplies, no. But for a certain curious cat that she liked to take on adventures. She kept the top of it open, even though it was made for him to look out and around the courtyard fully being in it. She had found that he liked to be peeking out, paws poised on one of her shoulders and occasionally rubbing his head into hers. Buttons seemed to spot something before she could though, as he leaped out of the bag. "Buttons, no!" He was never one to leave the bag, but her eyes had somehow missed her former captain and now prefect peer sitting under a tree with a cat of his own. As much as she now didn't want to approach, she had to now. She pulled up the tote bag on her shoulder that held her actual supplies and not a cat and approached. "Hey Quinn, I didn't know you had a cat." Buttons had stopped just a little bit away from the cat, his eyes wide and curious, his tail flicking back and forth playfully.

Irene stopped purring, her odd colored golden and gooseberry green eyes staring at Buttons with unknown intent. Her head was raised and for the moment at least she was relaxed. She looked so proper giving an heir of something noble, especially with her beautiful silver coat and black markings. "Irene, did 'hey catch ya fancy?" She turned her head to him cocking her head before turning her attention back to the curious and playful cat.
Unlike last time Quinn was smart enough to close his book. His feelings aside, he let out a cool deep breath and smiled. "Greetings Willow. I wasn't aware ye came here often? An who is that adorable little fur ball." He chuckled softly absently stroking his beard. "Yes, her name is Irene and she's a good companion. Careful though she thinks herself a queen, acts like one too." At that comment his leg got swatted by her tail. "Heh, see." With a known gentleness he softly rubbed and stroked her head which she clearly enjoyed. Letting out another very loud purr. It was clear the two shared an incredibly close bound. "I've had her for a little over a year now. But ever since that incident in the common room ah've been forced to keep her in me room or get permission to take her to me classes. Poor thing got so scared she was a nervous wreck for a while."
"Ye know ah like coming here a lot now. It's so quiet and calming, but most of all ye can't beat this atmosphere. It helps me realize where ah've gone wrong and helps me keep meself grounded. Same with ye know who. And uh thanks again for not spreading that to the others in our house. Bad enough some in Slytherin think me a dumb brute and monster. Don't need people from my own house unwilling to trust me, nat that ah would blame them if ah would." That was clearly aimed at himself as he looked at Willow sadly.
"Oh ah didn't know ye liked to draw too!" His eyes lit up and smile widened. "So tell me how've ye been and when did ye start drawin!?"

Buttons really had a knack of getting him into situations he wasn't equipped to deal with, or ones that he didn't really know what to do once he did it. This was one of those cases. After seeing Irene, playful at first, he sat down and looked back at Willow. He made no move to disengage or engage Irene further, but his curious eyes flicked between his owner and the new cat. Willow was in a similar place, not exactly knowing what to do with this situation. There was a bubble of fear in the pit of her stomach after seeing Quinn snap a boy's leg with his own two hands prompted by his own breakdown right afterwards. She had always thought of him as a gentle giant, but after that moment something had changed in how she viewed him. That whole event changed how she saw Quidditch and she quit pretty early into the school year.
"Ah yeah, I'm trying to soak in the last of the outside drawing I can get before it gets too cold. This is Buttons, I got him over the summer." She sat down a bit away from him, calling Buttons back to her with a couple snaps and whispering of his name. Not that she ever expected him to hurt an animal, it was that she didn't want Buttons getting into a playtime that was unwarranted, especially since Quinn was obviously in an art mode. Willow's eyes flashed another type of anxiety, thinking about the fire last year. She was incredibly grateful that she hadn't had Buttons yet, she might've left him at home in Second Year if that was the case. The idea of anything bad happening to him was not one that she wanted to think about at all.
When Buttons finally relented and crawled onto Willow's lap, she gave him a couple of head scratches before moving to long strokes when he laid down, tail still flicking playfully. Her gaze stuck on Quinn as he thanked her for not telling people about what happened over the summer, but how could she? It was something that even she didn't want to relive, let alone have others go through that with her. She hoped he was in a better mindset, had some more clarity in him now. Her gaze averted when his eyes tried to meet her. "I'm just trying to move on from it, is all. I don't really see the point in telling other people about what happened... none of us were really in our right mind were we?" Even after winning, there was something from that game that didn't feel settled, sometimes she still thought about it and what she might've done differently should she have been able to play the game again.
Since it seemed like she was in for more of a quick cat visit, she shrugged off the cat backpack and art supplies and settled in, leaning back on her right hand as her left hand laid on Button's back. "I'm alright, you know, still getting back into the swing of things after summer. Forgot how much homework there is usually. But, I've been drawing since it was safe for me to finger paint without worrying about me eating it basically. My parents have always encouraged me since I was young. I mostly draw landscapes and nature, plants and stuff. Buttons has been a great model for trying to do animals." For a moment she eyed Irene, the beautiful and poised queen. "I could always take a shot at drawing Irene, if you don't mind. If you like it you can keep it." The fear was already working on subsiding, and for that she was grateful.
