As Lydia stepped inside the Duelling club, the first thing she noticed was the excitement that seemed to run through every single person in the room; the students were chatting loudly, their voices creating a buzz that reminded the girl of a swarm of bees, buzzing all together. As she stepped on the strip, she briefly remembered how nervous she had been, on the very same spot, not that long ago, with the difference that this time she was there to host the game.

Walking all the way to the center, she then turned to face towards the direction of the two teams. "Today we will have @Meenauh Silmataurea and @Galton Lansdale from Gryffindor going up against @Thomas Baines and @Callie Jensen from Ravenclaw!"as she talked, her voice loud and clear, the chatting of students died down, and she motioned towards the duellists to come forward.

"Please take your positions. I'm pretty sure you all remember the rules, but a little reminder is always good: spells only, no physical attacks! Those will definitely get you disqualified. If there are no other questions then... you may begin!" Lydia said once everyone had moved closer, and then proceeded to leave the "stage" to the duellists.

It was fascinating how she went from a silent reader and watcher to a duellist. For god's sake, it was quite a transformation of the personality. To her side, there was no other than the Candy King — @Galton Lansdale. She was still a bit afraid of him despite she was not present during his reign. Some say he even got to stay at St. Mungo to get back into sanity. But for the moment, she had to cooperate with him. He reminded her of Oliver a bit, whom she didn't see for quite a while. But she knew basically nothing about the boy, despite being in her third year. Was he even attending classes?

She drew her wand ready, gave him a nod and whispered "Good luck". And the spells flew in.

It was the first match of the year, and he and Callie were paired up against two older students. If Thomas were less arrogant, he might've been worried about his odds. His Gryffindor opponents may have outclassed the Ravenclaw team in knowledge, but the young wizard was confident in himself and his ally's ability to make up for what they lacked in spell range with skill and strategy. After exchanging a few whispers, a hurried battle plan the two devised on the spot, Thomas wandered over to get into position. He had a bright smile on his face.

The Ravenclaw was small for his age, and between that and his almost comedically cheery disposition that was a consequence of his excitement, Thomas looked like an optimistic first-year who hadn't the faintest clue what was going on. Whether that appearance was on purpose or part of the strategy he had discussed with Callie, was entirely unclear. One thing was for certain, though, if anyone had witnessed Thomas' performance in the Chess Combat event over the summer, they would know that the wizard was anything but the harmless little boy he seemed to be.

"We're gonna kick some third-year butt, Callie," Thomas stated confidently, though not loud enough for their opponents to hear. There was no doubt in his mind that the Ravenclaw team would emerge superior, not a single other outcome was possible in his eyes. "We've got this." As he stood in position, he bounced from foot to foot, nervous energy practically threatening to make the young wizard burst.

Despite hyping herself up for the match all morning all her efforts had done very little to quell her nerves. Unlike her duelling partner Callie was certainly significantly more nervous about their opponents given them being in the year above. Sure their hastily assembled plan at least help soothe her nerves a little but for the most part Callie continued to feel on edge. As she walked over to get into position the young girl wore a similar grin to Thomas. "Yeah! We've got it." Callie responded to Thomas' words of encouragement in a hushed whisper, still trying and failing to build her own confidence. Afterwards she drew her cherry wood wand and started to focus on the matter at hand.

It was time for Galton's dueling debut. The audience was in for quite the ride if this magical bout followed trend with any of Galton's previous kerfuffles. As he was called to the stage he ran through his checklist:
- Robes? Luckily already on.
- Wand? In hand.
- Outer pockets? Empty.
- Sleeves? Clean of leftover candy.
- Mouth? Lingering on the taste of that sherbet lemon.
With everything good and ready to go he joined his partner on stage. He knew @Meenauh Silmataurea , but everyone knew who the Prefects were. You had to keep your eyes out for them when shaving a cat, you know. And so his small feet carried him to the stage, right next to his partner.
"Good luck." She whispered.
He turned his face towards her and smiled, keeping his eyes on his opponents. "You too!

And then Galton the Glorious and Meenauh the Mighty descended together into battle.

As soon as the duel began, spells started flying across the room as both teams revealed their strategies for the round. It looked as if both @Meenauh Silmataurea and @Galton Lansdale had decided to aim for @Thomas Baines, while the two Ravenclaws had decided to concentrate their spells on Meenauh.

The Gryffindor girl appeared extremely concentrated as she cast the Curse of the Bogies towards the young Ravenclaw boy, but that was not enough: Thomas easily dodged the attack, moving to his left, as the spell flew behind him, missing him completely. Just as Meenauh cast her spell, the Ravenclaw boy had done the same, successfully directing his Mucus ad Nauseam towards the older girl, that tried to dodge the spell, but in vain. The curse hit her on her shoulder, and its effect immediately took place, giving her an extremely runny nose as a wave of nausea hit her.

While his duelling partner was suffering, Galton's blindfolding spell was successfully cast; for a brief second it looked like Thomas had managed to avoid it, but that was not the case. The moment that the spell hit him, a blindfold appeared over his eyes, making it impossible for him to see anything anymore.

@Callie Jensen cast her knockback jinx towards the Gryffindor girl. The Flipendo made her move a couple of steps backwards, dealing a 170 HP damage.

"Meenauh has been hit by two spells, while Thomas' eyes has been covered by a blindfold! With one member each in a compromised situation, what will Gryffindor and Ravenclaw do next?" Lydia commented as she kept her eyes on the duel, curious to see what would happen next.

In truth Callie hadn't entirely expected her spell to hit it's mark, largely out of self doubt more than anything. Despite everything the girl still lacked a certain degree of confidence which Thomas seemed to have in spades. Much to her delight Callie's self doubts were proved wrong but she suppressed the smile from creeping onto her face regardless. Something about showcasing genuine delight in someone being hit like that didn't entirely sit right with Callie. Although that wasn't going to stop her from duelling or letting Thomas down. He may have been blindfolded but there was still work to do! So after a brief glance over to the blindfolded boy Callie continued with their hastily assembled plan.

Noting the spell that came careening towards him, Thomas ducked, narrowly avoiding it. He was stumbling, on uneven footing, but he did manage to dodge the curse. It was likely for the best; when the wizard remembered the devastating draw that occurred in the summer camp dueling due to the spell, it was clear that he had no desire to ever suffer the effect of it for himself. At the thought of Theo, the American boy who got absolutely destroyed by Santario's curse, gears in Thomas' head were spinning overtime. Grinning cheekily, the Ravenclaw boy had a great idea for the next spell he was to cast in retaliation.

"Mucus ad Nauseam!"

When the spell hit the older student, and Callie's Flipendo did too, Thomas was excited! It was this adrenaline rush and victory that he sought after, something that he only experienced in competitions or near-death experiences (of which he only had one, but the fact that it happened at all to the boy when he was twelve was quite transformative). Beaming as their alliance found success, he gave his partner a big thumbs up. Naturally, with his pride came arrogance, and with arrogance came foolishness. He didn't even see the spell Galton threw his way and was completely blindsided (heh) when the Obscuro struck.

"GAH- I can't see!" Thomas stated angrily, though it wasn't as if that was particularly surprising.

Too concentrated she was. The spell wasn't easy, and she failed to guide it properly towards the boy. Fortunately, Galton succeeded. It was all a distraction, of course. Definitely, it was. All focus Meenauh, because she's the danger. When they underestimated the King. The King will slowly have them down, while Meenauh suffers.

"As strategised," she gave her teammate a really short remark, noting that everything was going according to the plan. And she sniffed, cleaning her nose with the edge of her sleeve. There was no time for elegance.

They jumped into action, the first spell seemed to roll of Galton's tongue like a freshly licked lollipop, ready to stick to whatever it was flung at. When "filipendo" entered Galton's ears he braced himself for the worst, but it seemed that it was destined for his mighty teammate. It became apparent that both teams had a similar idea of what to do, targeting one member of the team each.

"As strategised,"

"Of course. He wanted to sneak a comment in there about his hate for flipendo, but there wasn't time for conversation.
