OOC: I hope the IC day is okay, I just chose a random date basically.
Turning in the direction of the Great Hall, Allie didn't see Matrix blushing after she nudged his shoulder. Lucky for him, she kept walking, leading the way out of the Library, until she noticed him going the wrong way. Just as she was about to call out to him and tell him that the Great Hall was in the opposite direction, he noticed and quickly hurried to catch up with her, his face turning bright red. Allie giggled a little but didn't say anything. He seemed embarrassed enough.
"I can always tell we're close to the Great Hall when I start to smell food," she said with a grin. The first time she needed to make her way to the Great Hall alone, she had just followed her nose until she arrived at the large double doors that led in. The pair were at those very same doors now, and Allie pulled one outwards, holding it open for Matrix to pass through then followed him in. The aroma of delicious foods was overwhelming now, and the first year quickly led her friend to an empty table in the middle of the room.
When the pair sat down, Allie contemplated what she was going to eat then took a few tarts off the platter they had been on and set them on her plate. She did the same with a few other foods, and then looked at Matrix, who was sitting across from her. "So," she said, not exactly knowing what to say.

Similarities
The two would reach the Great Hall, and Allie would open the door for Matrix. He would walk in with a thank you. He would smell the food as soon as he walked it, and it seemed to make him more hungry. Allie would take a seat near the middle of the table, and Matrix would sit directly opposite to her. He would look around and see that mostly everyone had began eating, and some seemed to be done. They where late, but Matrix did not care. They had more than enough time, and he got to spend time with his closest friend.
Allie would proceed to put food on her plate and Matrix would follow suite. There where plenty of options, and Matrix tried to put a little of everything. Allie would seem to try and initiate a conversation, but all she would manage is “so.” Matrix would look at her a little confused for about 30 seconds. When Allie seemed to be saying nothing, Matrix would attempt to start a conversation. “So” He would repeat, still looking straight at her. He would be thinking of something to say, that he would not realize where he was looking. “Uh, How is your day going?” He would say after about another 30 seconds of awkward silence. “Seriously! That is the best you can come up with? After almost an entire minute of thinking....”how is your day going?” Matrix would say, kind of scolding himself mentally. He would break eye contact and stare at his plate.

OOC: Are you planning on Matrix asking her to the dance in this thread or another one? If it's this one I can have Allie bring it up.
Matrix repeated what she had said, seeming like he didn't really know what to say either. They lapsed into silence and Allie moved the food she had put on her plate around with a fork before taking a small bite. After a couple beats, she glanced back up again to find Matrix staring straight at her. It was a little unsettling, and she shifted uncomfortably in her seat, grateful when Matrix finally thought of something to say. “Uh, How is your day going?” he asked her.
"Quite well, actually," she said with a small smile as he moved his gaze to the plate in front of him. "I haven't been doing anything other than reading and talking to you, so. . ." She had arrived at the Library around ten o'clock that morning and had read for a while before Matrix came in and they started chatting, so really, that was all she had done. "How has yours been going?" she said in reply, even though she was pretty sure he had done the same thing as her all morning. . . Allie thought back to their conversation a few minutes ago. What had they been talking about then? Oh yes, the music. But that conversation had sort of ended before they walked to the Great Hall.
The Ravenclaw took a few bites of one of the tarts on her plate and waited for a reply. Hogwarts really did make the best food, she thought with a smile. Remembering a conversation she had had a couple days ago about the very same thing, Allie looked around the Great Hall, wondering if anyone else she knew was there still. Matrix and her were eating lunch a little later than she usually did, and at the moment she didn't see anyone she knew. She turned to face Matrix again.

Similarities
Allie would seem to be visibly uncomfortable at Matrix’s awkward staring. Though he never did it on purpose, he would make a mental note to be more aware. Allie would tell him that her day had consisted of reading and talking to him. She would then ask him how his day has been. “I kind of had the same thing. I did some homework, and I came to the library to find something to read. Luckily. I saw you.” He would say with a smile. He would turn to his plate and eat some more. The food here was really good, and Matrix felt truly blessed to be able to eat this every day.
He looked around and saw that some people had begun to leave. There where still plenty of people there, so Matrix did not feel the need to rush. He looked towards the front of the room, where he saw tables in which the professors are to eat in. He had hoped that he had not missed any announcements. He had been a little late yesterday also. Matrix would make a mental not to see the announcement board on his way back to his dormitories. He would then turn to Allie and ask her, “Do you know if there are any important announcement that where mentioned in the last day or two?” He had wanted to start some kind of conversation with her.

OOC: I changed the date so that it happens after the dance is officially announced.
Matrix replied with basically the same answer, and Allie nodded and smiled back. "Yes, I'm really glad I saw you in the Library earlier!"she agreed. Allie hadn't exactly planned anything else for the day, and so meeting Matrix had been a wonderful surprise. She took a few more bites of her food as Matrix did the same. She noted the content look on his face as he ate and laughed a little.
The Hufflepuff across from her was glancing around the room as well, and seemed a little worried. When he turned back to her though, she found out why. He had been wondering if he'd missed anything important in the announcements. . . and he had, she realized. "Oh, yes, actually." she paused, wanting to remember as much of it as she could. "There were these cards on the tables a few days ago, didn't you see them?" Allie would be surprised if he didn't at least know about them already, since the whole school had been abuzz about them ever since they showed up.
There had also been quite a few rumors of a dance before the cards were found, ones that Allie herself had heard multiple times. She had even asked an older student about it, although the Gryffindor hadn't known anything. . . Most likely Matrix didn't either, since he was asking. "There's going to be a dance! A few other schools are coming to visit Hogwarts in October, I think, and the event has been planned out a little. . ." Pausing, she looked at Matrix to make sure he had gotten everything.
"It happened a few days ago, so I don't know much, but it sounds like fun!" she smiled wider.

Allie would ask him if he had seen the cards on the tables. He had seen a few, but never felt the need to look inside them. He had heard some talk about people asking others out. He paid no attention to that as it was none of his concern.
Allie would tell him that there was a dance that was going to happen. “Oh” was all Matrix would say, a little embarrassing that he had not figured it out earlier. The more Matrix thought about it the more obvious it seemed. Matrix had no idea who to ask. He did not like anyone in the school, did he? Who did he feel awkward and clumsy around? Who did he like talking to the most? The answer seemed to come instantly. She was the one sitting in front of him.........Allie........
He looked at her for a quick second. There was no way someone like her would go to the dance with someone like him. She probably was not interested in him. She is super pretty so someone probably asked her out already. He made so many mistakes around her, she probably thought that he was just a clumsy weirdo. Matrix would then take a deep breath. He did not know unless he tried, right?
“So uh, are you going with anyone?” He would ask her, shifting in his seat uncomfortably, looking at every where but her. Though he thought he already knew the answer to his question, he hoped that she was not taken yet.

Matrix clearly hadn't bothered to open any of the cards on the tables since he seemed a little surprised at the fact that there was a dance coming up. The only thing he said was "Oh" when she told him, nothing more and nothing less. "So. . . yeah." she paused and looked down at the table in front of her.
When the girl looked back up again, she noticed Matrix seemed to be thinking hard about something. Suddenly, realization seemed to dawn on his face, and he gave her a quick glance. Tilting her head to one side, she wondered what he was thinking. To be honest, Matrix seemed a little nervous. . . but that might just be her imagination. She bit her lip, aware of the awkward silence that surrounded them
and looked back down again.
Allie looked up, startled, when Matrix asked her a question. The Ravenclaw hadn't even thought of the fact that lots of people were going to be attending the dance with a partner. . . Although she did remember hearing a few whispered conversations between older girls as they discussed who they wanted to go with and stuff. Usually she had just hurried on past them, thinking that school was much more important than any of that silly stuff anyway. . . which it had been at the time.
The boy across from her was acting a little embarrassed, and would not make eye contact with her. She shrugged, then answered. "Oh, um, no, actually." Playing with a strand of her hair, the girl finally caught Matrix's gaze and held it there as a sudden thought occurred to her. "Why?" she asked, pushing that thought away as quickly as it had arrived. No. . . it wasn't possible.
At least, she didn't think so.Oh, it's totally fine. We're just going to have to hurry with the next few replies. Also, I think there are two balls happening. . . can we have the two go to one and then check out the other one as well?

Allie would tell him that she is not going with anyone. Matrix would be surprised at this but would not show it. Maybe he still had a chance to perhaps go to the ball with her. He knew this was probably the only opportunity he had to ask her before the ball, especially since the topic was brought up already. All he needed was the confidence to do it. His mother always told him to seize all opportunities. Matrix would fidget with his finger for a few seconds thinking about how to word it, his eyes would stare down at the table. He would feel his cheeks burning.
“S-so uh” Matrix would start slowly taking a deep breath “Do you maybe want to go to the d-dance with me?” Matrix would ask Allie stuttering just a little. He would slowly build the confidence to look at her again. He would feel his cheeks turning really red once he laid eyes on her , but there was no point trying to hide it now or turning back. This was what he wanted and he took the risk. He would return his eyes to the table. He really hoped that she would say yes, thought she was probably not interested in him at all. The more Matrix thought about it, the more dreaded he felt at the thought of rejection, but at the same time he felt the longing to go on a dance with her, even if it was for just this once. He felt bad about himself for his pessimism, and decided to throw the negative thoughts away to the depths of his mind.
He would look at Allie after taking another deep breath awaiting her answer.

The Ravenclaw watched as her friend fidgeted and looked down at his plate instead of up at her. Curious, and a little confused on why he seemed so embarrassed suddenly, she waited for a reply. The random thought from before popped back into her head, and this time she couldn't make it go away. It just kept buzzing and spinning and twirling around, demanding all the attention she had.
Matrix took a breath and then stammered the beginning of a sentence. What was he so nervous about? Had she done something? Unsure of what he was going to say, the girl just kept waiting, watching him with her bright brown eyes. “Do you maybe want to go to the d-dance with me?” He finally asked her.
Wait. What?
Allie's eyes widened and she glanced down as the full reality of what he had just said to her sank in. "Me?" She was still confused, even though everything had been laid out right in front of her. Matrix was asking her to go to the dance with him? The very thought seemed crazy. . . or was it? When she put together all the pieces, well, everything added up. She could feel Matrix's eyes on her and finally looked up at him again, blushing hard. "I - I. . ." she didn't know what to say. There was a beat of silence. "Okay." she told him. Swallowing hard, it was now her turn to avoid eye contact and she knew her face was still red.
Surely he just meant as friends, she thought. He didn't - couldn't - really like her, could he? Like as in like like? No. . . The room felt stiflingly hot all of a sudden. Did she like him in that way? Allie had always thought of him as her closest friend here at Hogwarts but never like that. But then again if she didn't like him, why was she acting like this? Why did she feel all. . . weird now? Embarrassed, she finally met his gaze. "Do you. . ." It was so hard to force the next words out of her mouth but somehow she managed. "Do you like me?" From the way her face flushed he could probably tell she wasn't asking if he thought of her as a friend, especially since they had already said so.Okay! And yes, your response was quite quick. Sorry Allie's acting all weird. . .

Matrix would be shocked himself, his face turning more red by the minute. “Did she actually say yes?” Matrix would think to himself. He would then take a deep breath before saying anything, trying to calm himself down. “Okay” was all he said before closing his eyes and opening them again, hoping this was not some dream. Nope, this was the real world. “Cool” He would say. He would look at the floor nervously, his skin tone slowly turning back to the normal shade.
