A perky grin spread across Jayden's face as soon as August came bounding over to her side. Her eyes lit up, devoting their attention to the bubbly little boy, while softening kindly in fond recollection of her little brother Forrest - five years old at the present - whose short height and small features (and boundless energy) resonated in August as well.
"It's all right," she replied with a chuckle, assuring August she didn't mind his chatter, while in a soothing tone to help him simmer down. The boy was a pleasant ray of sunshine, unlike many of the travel-worn students who were so far keeping to themselves.
"I think we'll be sleeping on the Grounds. Campgrounds? I believe, that's what I've heard." Jayden looked around, scanning the acres of field and forest in the distance. "I suppose we'll be sleeping in tents, I think." It was her best guess, from what intel she had gathered, mainly waiting on others to show her the way. Jayden wasn't entirely sure herself. "I wonder where the other schools are?" She half thought to herself with another glance around, searching for any other student bodies. Excitement and nervous anticipation welled up within. She was looking forward to meeting new people, seeing what the other exotic schools - Ilvermorny's competition - were about.
"I was." Jayden put on a sheepish smile, though not at all ashamed to admit. "A little seasick when I got off at first, but nothing a little tonic from home couldn't cure. I've never sailed before." But before her discussion could ramble forward, she remembered to introduce herself. "Jayden, by the way. You are…August?" As a third year, Jayden naturally kept tabs on any newbies that waded into her domain. Particularly the boys. In absence of her little brother, she had fostered a big sister protectiveness and mentorship over the younger years that enrolled in her Club. "I suppose we'll be seeing each other in the Duelling arena sometime," she said with a friendly smirk.

The lie was said so smoothly that it seemed to be believed by the boy whose name she did not actually know (@Paisley Brown's iNPC August). That made things easier. Now she just had to stay away from the Ilvermorny Headmaster so she was not actually forced into any sort of conversation with him. Though... she really ought to spend time with him to try and figure him out. There was far too much mystery around him. She just... would prefer not to. There were far better people to spend time with.
She smiled and nodded politely as the boy claimed that he could see why the headmaster wanted to stay. She could not work out why anyone would leave their own job's responsibility for many months and go elsewhere but that not something she voiced. It was not the sort of thing she would do, in general, so she simply failed to understand that logic. It made her suspicious of Plott but she did not need to express these concerns to a child.
"I am glad you like it here," She replied politely before following his finger to the group of trees. Ah the Forbidden Forest. Telling a student it was forbidden always sparked their interest but it was forbidden for a reason, "No, the forest is off limits for your own safety." She replied nonetheless, hoping that the students actually understood that. They would have received a full list of school rules that were expected to be followed, even as guests but she had no idea if they would follow them.
Hjørdis nodded as the boy turned to leave, "Yes, of course, go ahead," politely excusing him from having to talk to her. It was not common that students enjoyed chatting to her. She had no issues with people just avoiding her. In fact, she was secretly hoping no one spoke to her as she was only here to watch the school from the distance. Was it fair to judge the entire school based on one incident that happened last year when they arrived? No, not really. Especially not when disasters happened commonly in Hogwarts. It was much more likely their own fault than Ilvermorny's. However... their headmaster had caused far too much suspicion to be thrown onto them.
His fleeting visits to Hogwarts were always suspicious. He would leave after this, right? Why was he so interested in their school? She did not trust him one bit. Whether he deserved that or not was not something she knew but in her defense, she trusted very few people in the first place. He was just the furthest person from acquiring any sort of trustworthy status presently.

Securing his luggage and ensuring it was closed, Lazarus quickly cast a spell over it to reduce the size after making sure everything was in it. He picked up the now much smaller object and placed it in his pocket so he could carry it around with him without having to worry about anything. The lack of fireworks was disappointing to say the least. He could not fathom why anyone would say no to such a fantastic idea. Some people really sucked the joy out of life, sometimes! He almost felt sorry for them but they simply could not understand how to live a life properly.
He understood, of course. He climbed out of his wagon once they approached the entrance. It was not as grand as he would have liked it but it would do for now. "Be careful, this school is dangerous," He had warned them, an unusual seriousness in his words. With that, he turned towards the castle - his cloak swooshing wonderfully in the wind - with a large grin plastered on his face as he observed the marching band once more. Lazarus walked forward, towards the gate in time with the beat of the band besides the open wagons. His arms swaying in rhythm as he landed every step to the beat of the drums.
"Miss Fairclay, care to join me in the march?" He called out to the small girl as she sat quietly in the wagon he was walking past. She looked nervous, twiddling her thumbs as she sat. He could help ease her worries! "Come, join me!" He encouraged her to step out of the wagon and march in with him, perhaps skip or dance in. Whatever she wanted! He accepted all kinds of entrances as long as they were bold and beautiful.
Firmly placing his hand on the shoulder of young Mister Esnos as he walked past him or putting his hand on the carriage that he was sitting in (depending on whether he had gotten out or not), "Well boy, what are you waiting for? Follow the band!" He encouraged the student to enter. Now that they were here, they had to enter in style, of course. Boldly and fabulously! "Yes, exactly like Miss Stanwood and Miss Kawahara over there!" He added with enthusiasm - and loudly, loud enough for the duo to hear, of course - as he saw the two students seemed to be keen to make a grand entrance!
If the students did not join in on this beautiful entrance, he would have to just make sure they looked fabulous for them!
From the distance, he spotted a few people from Hogwarts watching them. The afternoon sun hit his eyes as he observed them for a moment. It was rather unwelcoming of them! He did not expect much better but he took note that they were watching him nonetheless. Of course they were - he was a magnificent sight, after all! Shooting a grin over to the young girl [@Erin Ryan] and the taller man [@Kit Paine] that he did not recognise standing besides her. The unfamiliar man was most likely working here but Lazarus could not recall seeing him in his previous visits. He recognised the other lady that stood alone as one of the professors here - mostly by the striking white hair colour - though he could not recall her name. Johns? Jones? Something with J, he was sure. Ah it did not matter! He will be told later, he was sure.

Novus was still looking up at the castle as he heard a voice. Turning to face its source, he spotted Lazarus Plott. The headmaster seemed to be moving from student to student, attempting to get everyone more excited and more... well... Lazarus-y. It didn't seem like many were heeding the call, but the man was clearly determined. "Ya..." Novus responded softly. "Ya, I'm coming." The boy then got up and stepped out of the side of the carriage. He momentarily turned around and looked back at the direction from which they came. Then, after looking up at the sky for a bit, the half-blood turned around and began walking towards the castle.
There were a few people who were evidently waiting for their arrival near the gate, some of which he somewhat recognized and some of which he didn't. Were they there to ensure that everyone was safe, or was it just a polite gesture? Who knew. Regardless, they were there, so why not try interacting with them? "Excuse me." Novus called out as he approached who he assumed was a professor. "Is there any danger of last years... incident repeating itself?" It was definitely a loaded question, but it was also an important one.

Roleplaying as Theodore Duncain
Theo started to get excited hours ago. Yes, he had been excited at the beginning of their journey, after all they were sailing from America to England! What twelve year old could say that they did that? The thunderbird did hear some of the others complain and he understood how the long journey seemed like an unnessecary complication, but Theo always liked adventure. Wasn't there also a saying or something? The journey is the goal?
Despite the excitement he had to say that it was good to be on land again. The first day had been difficult. Theo was no one to get sick on ships, but he also never stayed on one for longer than two hours before.
Not to mention that Headmaster Plott, a man he highly respected, seemed to have issues socializing without making it awkward or embarassing. Hopefully the journey home would be better.
They had left the boats near London and went shopping. It had been a weird trip in a weird place. Theo heard that London was a beautiful city with great places and historical buildings, but instead their headmaster decided to go into some dark narrow alleys with them, that made Theo nervously clasp his wand and stay close to the girls from his house, that he had shared a tent with in summer camp, until they left. Compared to that the train journey was rather enjoyable. Just looking at the beautiful landscape and reading a bit.
But for now he didn't want to think about the journey anymore, he was finally at Hogwarts!
Hogwarts!
The carriage ride was a bit of a blur with people he didn't know and actually, he was ready to go to bed. Once they left the carriages though, the boy was overwhelmed. Like he heard, he even said it in the letter he wrote to Greta- god he was still embarassed when he thought about it, it surely was all wrong and not understandable at all- Hogwarts was a castle. Even compared to Ilvermorny, this place was... magical.
Theo quickly caught up to Karilyna and Phyllis. "Have you been here before? This place is huge!" He looked up to the towers.

Okay, so telling Karilyna to hurry up after two seconds was probably being a bit impatient. Phyllis wasn't exactly known for patience, though. Turning back to the shorter girl, she raised an eyebrow at her friend shivering in a hoodie. "Dude, are you cold? She was perfectly comfortable, but then it occurred to her that she lived in Canada and Karilyna lived in Arizona, so the temperatures they were used to were probably pretty different.
Karilyna asked if she was going to get murdered by a door this time, earning a laugh from Phyllis. Sure, the Masquerade Ball had been a disaster, but sometimes the best way to get over something was just to joke about it. "But there can only be one Thun-door-bird! Besides, I'm not going anyways. British people are terrible at throwing balls." It was a joke, of course, but also true. Beyond just the balls being boring, they were dangerous. Phyllis typically loved danger and was always up for a good rush of adrenaline, but at some point, it went from good fun to downright stupid risks.
Someone had overheard them, it appeared. The redhead turned towards the sound, which had apparently come from an older-looking girl she couldn't remember the name of. She had definitely seen her before--how could she not have on that agonizingly long boat ride?--but Phyllis wasn't great with names. "Oh, she did." Phyllis gestured dramatically to her best friend. "At the Ball last year. Now she's the undead." Another thing Phyllis wasn't great at: as annoyed as she got with Plott and his antics, she too wasn't serious an awful lot. Still, she wasn't so much theatrics and wasting time as plain joking around.
Speaking of Plott, why had he said her name? She looked over at him with a glare she didn't bother concealing. Something about a band? Oh. Oh. Was he... using them as an example of what to do? She had to fix the very false notion Plott was getting, so in typical Phyllis fashion, she crossed her arms and stopped walking. The redhead could easily catch up later, but there was no way she was going to be a role model for Plott.
There he was. Her expression, which had settled into a look of defiance, turned right back to a smile. She nodded. "Yep! And it is. Plenty to explore." Well, now that Theo was there, it probably wouldn't be nice to make him wait around. Besides, she'd already gotten her point across to Plott, if he was paying attention. Resuming a saunter in the direction of the castle, she grinned at Theo, giving him a light, playful shove. "You ready to crush the other schools in broom racing?" That was the best part of being here, she'd already decided. Flying and kicking the other schools' butts; was there anything more fun?

The circus was in town, and by circus she means Ilvermorny. There was enough pomp and circumstance to make a parade look humdrum. There was no overcompensation here. Nope, none at all. Still, despite their eccentricities, she might find an ally among them in her coming war so her eyes were on them.
She would fail to notice the weirdo that approached her until he approached the part veela. Dressed for a snowstorm in autumn, the peculiarity did not end there as she looked up at his face. Blue war paint on his face and he seemed to participate in self mutilation of some sort, his oversized ears assailed with numerous bits of metal. It was obvious he was some sort of savage now forced to live among civilized folk. Dark hair, tanned skin. A wide, toothy grin that reminded her somehow of a shark.
He was also a midget giant: at a height of 6'3" or 190.5cm tall. She was eye level with his collar. Maybe a death witch in their true form, his bizarre physical appearance might then be explained. She took a step back, she wanted to look the murderer in the eye as he addressed her.
"Hello, there. Miss Ryan, is it?"
He knew her name. Of course he knew her name. All the death witches were likely aware of her meddling.
"I don't believe we've properly met. I'm Kit Paine."
He extended his arm and Erin leapt back as if he had thrown a kunai in her direction. His hand would be left wanting. She did not say anything but she gave his hand an accusing glare, if words could be put to looks -- yOu C@nT tRiCk Me!
"Everything alright over here? I'd have thought you'd come to greet Ilvermony, but you seem determined to keep your distance."
His laugh sounded sinister. She tensed in response to his audacious display of presence. Did he really think he could try something in front of so many witnesses! "You wouldn't..." she half dared him. She did not want him to take the bait, but she wanted to see him snap. To reveal to someone. Anyone his true, dark nature since the obviously evil façade was not enough warning for the fodder.
"We wouldn't want to make our new guests more nervous than they already are by standing around and simply watching them, would we?"
"Yeah, nervous..." she scoffed. She would watch his hands and move away as if they were made of lava had he reached out towards her. "Nervous of the human," she did not call herself veela or even verbally admit to being partly non-human herself. "Protecting the school from death witches." She stubbornly announced. Yeah, you. I know what YOU are!
"Why don't you come say hello?"
"Why?" She reasoned with a question. "You can't all be death witches," her eyes widened at the terrifying possibility. What if she was the only human there? There was Jensen, the food-maker. Maybe that was what she wanted Erin to think... It might have been people or worse yet, poison. Then there was... come to think of it, a bunch of people that she hardly knew.
Her jaw clenched, her lower lip retreated into her mouth where she chewed on her lip between her front teeth. Well, damn... Well played..." She had but one option. "LIVER MORNING -- Welcome to Hogwarts! Your over-compensation mid-life crisis parade was pathetic! Catch me if you can!" her logic simple, draw attention. Get someone annoyed, maybe chase her. Get them away from the death witch trap. Not like they could take her, a school of pretty boys and models. They probably hurt themselves opening bottles of water and are terrified of gluten.
With that, she would attempt to dash away.

How hard was it for people to simply be nice? Jayden's head spun around, her attention immediately jerked to the loud voice of the blonde (she recognized had been spying on them from the Grounds) that erupted - rather disrupted - her school's arrival. Okay, well, "Liver Morning" would have elicited a chuckle from her, had it been said in more friendly jest than a mocking taunt. Someone didn't sound pleased to see Ilvermorny here.
Slightly unsettled, Jayden's right arm instinctively braced itself against the coat pocket that concealed her wand, though she made no effort to reach for it and equip herself. At the same time, her wand arm lightly nudged August as Jayden sided closer to him, ready to jump in and protect the little boy if need be. Her defensive posture would quickly relax. The girl [Erin Ryan] was already turning to flee anyway - the coward. Jayden smirked, skeptical of what the blonde was trying to accomplish. Was she hoping to pick a fight?
"What's her problem?" She would mutter aloud, waiting to see how others would respond. She'd be disappointed if no disciplinary action was taken, but it wasn't her place to give it. So much for a hospitable welcome. Her annoyance flashed briefly, but she wasn't about to abandon her group and go chasing after some rebel deviant. Hopefully more Hogwarts students wouldn't turn up like this…

The lovely blonde young lady Kit had chosen to address had drawn back even before he'd opened his mouth to talk to her, clearly wary of him. However, that hardly seemed to deter the caretaker as he continued to smile, albeit a little more gently this time. He was familiar with skittish, cynical youth such as this one.
Slowly returning his ignored hand to his side, he stuck his thumbs in the pockets of his pants within the shelter of his robe, unable to retract his gaze from the girl. Perhaps, from the new, tense set of her shoulders in response to his laugh, it had been the wrong thing to do. Well, it wouldn't have been the first time he had inadvertently behaved in a way to make someone else uncomfortable; far from it, in fact. He did not seem deterred.
Though he had deigned to soften his toothy grin into a simple smile of gently-curving lips, Erin's faltering sentence fragments had him grinning broadly again in no time, apparently unable to conceal his amusement.
"And why wouldn't they be nervous of 'the human'?" he asked, gaze glittering with interest as they appraised her. "Aren't humans some of, if not the most dangerous beings in this world?"
The comment about 'death witches' caused him to raise a quizzical brow in thought. "'Death witches', huh...? Are those like witches that cause death?" He scratched his head in a bewildered gesture before leaning down to face her, his palms braced against his knees in order to meet her eye-to-eye. His lips were still curved in that ever-present smile as if he could do nothing else. "Are there 'death wizards' as well? In any case...what makes you think I am one?"
When the Headmaster of the American school stepped out of the wagon and revealed himself, Kit's attention was admittedly and unfortunately split. He tipped his head up slightly as if to see over the heads of the students near the man. Though he didn't turn when Erin announced her own brand of welcome to the visiting school before making a run for it, his suddenly impassive gaze locked on the professor, he didn't completely disregard her, either.
Despite what appeared to be his entire focus on the new faculty member - whom he had not yet had the pleasure or honor of greeting - something snaked out from under the hem of Kit's robes. It was a tail; long, sinuous, and tufted at the end like a lion's. It darted out in what seemed to be an attempt to snatch at Erin's wrist or ankle when she made to flee.
Acting as though he hadn't noticed the Slytherin girl's desire to depart, nor that he had made an effort to keep her from doing so, Kit raised a hand in greeting to Lazarus Plott when he glanced over, beaming in response to the other's grin. He then began to take some steps toward the headmaster; his tail's grip on Erin - if he'd caught her - gentle but firm as he tugged on her to follow in his wake without looking back.
Lazarus' glance at Hjørdis Jensen was followed and acknowledged as Kit nodded to her on his way to his new target, behaving all the while as though he didn't (whether he actually did or not) have one of her house's fourth-year students in tow. Long, confident strides had him drawing up to Lazarus in practically no time at all.
"Welcome to Hogwarts, Headmaster Plott," Kit spoke up, bowing low and much more extravagantly than was called for. There was a certain playfulness to the manner of his action, but it spoke of light-hearted humor rather than offensive mockery, wordlessly imploring the cheerful-seeming flamboyant man to humor him in his theatrics. "I am Kit Paine, the Hogwarts Castle Caretaker. And as I'd rather not waste time with meaningless pleasantries, I think I'll cut to the chase."
He leaned forward, extending an arm to Lazarus in much the same way he had to Erin only a short while earlier. "Would you please consider doing me the great honor of accompanying me to the Autumn Ball as my partner?"

She nodded in confirmation. "Probably," she was not exactly sure what they did but if the name was any indication it was likely something bad. "You tell me death witch..."
"Are there 'death wizards' as well? In any case...what makes you think I am one?"
She shrugged. She had no idea. Not like she named them that, it was not her fault that they did not have a gender-neutral phrase. "Seems so Mr. Paine," she replied defiantly. She did not like how he was positioning himself with his hands on his knees as if she was some over-imaginative child giving him some tall tale. She knew that she was not crazy. everyone else was either crazy or oblivious, but she was the exception.
"Too close," she napped as she took another step back. "I know enough," she claimed without substantiating her belief. That was hardly the concerning part, the concerning part was the fact that the girl was not joking and it was obvious from the glare as well the determination in her face. "And I know that your kind are everywhere..." She was obviously troubled, paranoid. She was also not the sort to back down.
Her plan was simple, antagonize the Ilvermorny students and make a run for it. She might not be faster than all of them but she had a head start on them and she had the stamina necessary to keep going long after they were on the ground gasping for air. She was going to save their lives, the consequences would be something she would face later.
She turned to run.
Erin attempted to bite Mr. Paine's tail.
