A Cozy Spot to Study
As soon as her last class was over, Millie rushed up to her dorm (Badger Bungalow), quickly grabbed her sweater, checked to make sure that she had all of her books, and walked down to the library. The library was Millie's favourite place to be, even though she wasn't particularly interested in reading all afternoon. She found the smell of books and the sound of friends speaking to each other in hushed voices.
Millie greeted the librarian silently as she walked into the peaceful room. She quietly walked past some third-year boys who looked like they were in Gryffindor, a second-year Ravenclaw girl, and a student whose house she couldn't identify. She waved at a Hufflepuff boy from her class and he waved back, smiling. They were all studying or reading quietly, which was what they were supposed to do.
Millie walked past him, towards the spot that she usually sat. It was a beanbag at the back of the library in the corner. Happy to see that the seat still was free, she set down her books and sat on the beanbag.
She pulled out her earbuds and put them into her ears. Although her iPod hadn't been working since she had arrived in Hogwarts, the feeling of the earbuds helped her focus. She then took out her potions homework and started to work on it.

Lorelei wandered through the giant Hogwarts library. She wasn't searching of anything in particular, just browsing the huge collection of books the school held. She moved through the dusty sections, looking through ancient books of charms and complicated potion recipies, thumbed through a huge collection of old Prophets and school newspapers. Maybe she should go out of the Headliner. She was searching through a back corner of the library between the Magizoology and History sections, when she, not watching where she was going, stumbled over someone sitting on one of the beanbag chairs.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry" she gasped as she knocked the Hufflepuff girl's earbud out, dropping the books she was holding. "Are you okay? I didn't hurt you, did I?" she noticed the earbud cord her foot had caught on, and bent down.
"Oh, are these muggle earbuds? Do they actually work here? I was told magic messes with electronics, is that only if you try to enchant them? I wish I'd brought my Ipod." She caught herself rambling, and, grabbing her books, held a hand out to the girl. She had to be about Lorelei's age. "I'm Lorelei. Sorry I tripped over you, I need to watch where I'm walking better. It's my fault. What'syour name?"

Millie had been hard at work when a girl with dark brown hair tripped over her feet. The girl started apologizing frantically. Millie smiled, waving her hands as if to say that it was okay. It was a weird thing she did, and usually people didn't understand what she meant. Millie hoped that the smile on her face was good enough.
"I'm Lorelei. Sorry I tripped over you, I need to watch where I'm walking better. It's my fault. What's your name?" the girl, Lorelie, said.
"No, no, no, stop apologizing!" Millie said quickly. "Oh yeah, my name is Millie Corbyn! And yeah, my iPod hasn't been working properly since I got here, but honestly just having the earbuds in my ears makes it easier to work."
It was true. Millie remembered bringing earbuds that didn't connect to anything to class and getting in trouble. It had gotten to the point where Millie's parents had gotten involved, and they had to make Millie promise not to bring her earbuds to her classes. They didn't want any trouble with the Hogwarts professors.
She giggled, then, out of curiosity, asked, "So, what're you here for? I mean, what're you doing in the library? I've been working on the potions homework."

Lorelei smiled, glad the girl wasn't too upset. She nodded as Millie explained her having ear buds, and finished gathering up her books. "That makes sense." Millie mentioned that she was doing potions work and asked why Lorelei was here.
"Oh, random research," She replied. "I'm doing this project on the etymology of incantations, looking for resources on the 1911 Gargoyle Strike, wandered over to Magizoology to see what the oldest edition of Scamander's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them they have is. I do have a Potions essay I need to find resources for. Dragon's blood usages." She trailed off a bit.
"What's your class on?" She asked, motioning to Millie's potions work. Leaning slightly on one of the shelves as she stood up. "Mine's on uses of dragon blood as I mentioned. I'm trying to see if the type of dragon affects what its blood can do." she traced the wood grain of the shelf with one finger. "It's frustrating. It seems like no one else has ever had the thought that because of regional or diet differences, a Welsh Green's blood might have different properties than that of say, a Peruvian Vipertooth. I can't find anything." She gave a small sigh of frustration. "I mean honestly if you're going to teach us how to use dragon blood, put some actual effort into studying it."

Lorelei began to talk about all of the work she had planned to do.
"Wow, you work really hard," Millie said accidentally. She hadn't meant to say that out loud, and it was obvious. "Um, I mean, that's a good thing though..."
This rarely happened, as Millie had pretty good control over her words. That was why everyone thought that she was perfect, but really, she wasn't. Millie only shared what she thought was beneficial and kept everything else inside. The people who knew her really only knew half of her. And it wasn't their fault, or Millie's, it was out of her control.
"Um, I'm working on the homework from the class on cures and antidotes..." Millie admitted. "I haven't gotten too far into the school work yet. I'm not really that good at potions either. It's really hard for me to grasp the idea of a potion. It still feels like a fairytale to me, you know? I guess it's the same with everything to do with this school...."
It had actually been very difficult for Millie to understand that all of this was real. She felt as if she would wake up from this extraordinary dream at any moment, and this made it difficult to take anything in this world seriously. It was real though, and deep down Millie knew that.
