Rose forgot to thank him as she took a bean from his box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. Maybe a fourth of the words that came out of Rose's mouth were compliments, apologies, and thank yous, and it was rare that she would forget, showing just how bad her day was going, to anyone who knew her well enough and cared enough to observe her that closely. She liked the Every Flavor Beans most of the time, though some of them made her scrunch up her face in disgust and she had to remind herself that it really wasn't that actual thing, and it was just a jelly bean.
Oh, if Rose took Divination, she would hate it. Hate it so much. Divination was relying solely on skill- a skill that you had an "inner eye," and since Rose did not, she would get so infuriated trying to do well in that class. It was not based on knowledge and even if you studied your butt off, if you didn't have the skill, too bad.
"I would probably hate that class too. But right now it's History of Magic. I just..." she sighed, lowering her voice. Usually she was not the person to complain about... anything, really, and she didn't want the professor to hear and pass it on to the History of Magic professor. "It's so much information and it's kinda hard to memorize sometimes, but really? It's just... boring. At least to me." Compared to the other classes, which Rose was usually very excited about, History of Magic was the low part of her day. She liked the professor, he was cool, but... History of Magic was just boring. Henry probably knew the entire textbook by heart, though.
Anyway. Back to the bean. Maybe Rose shouldn't have taken her chances on the beans. But when she wasn't feeling good, she was rash and impulsive. It was a blackish color, and Rose slipped it in her mouth. Black licorice. Rose hated black licorice. She swallowed the bean before the flavor could linger in her mouth any longer, which was surprisingly successful. Rose was not the kind of person to spit it out, she would just let herself suffer the taste that she hated so much. Just what she needed today. Her nose scrunched up when she had gotten it, and she reached for another bean to replace the lingering taste- a blotchy yellow and white one this time. Buttered popcorn. A good one this time.
"You said something about..." she wracked her brain, thinking of the time they had met on the Quidditch Pitch. She was trying to be nice to him, even though all she really wanted to do was complain about every little thing that had gone wrong that day. "Wanting to be a keeper? Is that right? Are you on the team yet?"

Henry watched her take a bean or two as he held the box out to continue his offer before taking another on himself, rotten eggs, while he hated the favor he didn't show it. Henry hardly showed his emotions or opinions normally, hiding them was something he always has been good at which is why while the favor bother him on the inside, outside you couldn't tell what he got or if he liked it.
Henry listened to her talk about her least favorite class and surprisingly he agree but disagree with her, while he knew many people hated that subject and respected that. Henry on the other hand being the geek and nerd he was, read the textbook and others when he was younger multiple times before he got then down by heart but when your a kid left alone for multiple day's at a time there isn't much left to do so he would turn to books mostly which could have been seen as a good or bad thing.
Henry took another bean, peppermint, before smiling and speaking to Rose " I can see that, I feel like history of magic is almost everyone's least favorite," he did enjoy the class but there were days that he just couldn't handle it anymore as he continued " I only like it because when I younger, uh after my mum died I spent hours sometimes days home alone with my twin which didn't give us much to do. So I turned to books and ended up memorizing most of the textbooks and she turned to-" Henry stopped talking midsentence while he didn't mind sharing that with her but his relationship with his twin and what happened after their mum died, was well complicated.
Henry quickly looked away as to compose himself but he didn't look like he was emotion or snuggling,
even on a off day he still hid his emotions rather well. It wasn't until Rose mention quidditch that he turned back to her with a smile and spoke " uh no, I sort of skipped the tryouts because of something," Henry didn't want to say how he had a change of heart and mental breakdown but quickly added " however I signed up for the dueling team and I'm awaiting to see if I made it."
Dueling now that's something he did always enjoy, probably because it didn't just involve strength but also intelligent and strategy which were two thing Henry could pull off as he spoke " what about you? Did you ever tryout for seeker?"

Called it. Of course Henry knew the textbook by heart. What better thing to do with his life? But then, hearing why, Rose felt bad for him. He turned to memorizing the textbooks because of the trauma of his mother dying.
Rose had only been three when her father died, so she never knew much about him. Little snippets- his hair, snuggling up in a blanket against him, that time she had hot chocolate in a sippy-cup with him. Little snippets, little flashes. No actual memories. She probably wouldn't recognize him if not for the pictures they had in their house of him. She was sure it was more traumatic for her older sister, who was five at the time. Her sister would have had actual memories.
Was that a good thing or a bad thing?
Gosh, the world was so messed up.
"That's cool, too." Rose mentioned when he said he liked it. Normally Rose would have reassured him that it was okay to be different or lectured him in some way about how it was good or something. Rose usually had so many words, so many thoughts to share with the world. But today her words were dwindling.
Rose shook her head. No, she hadn't tried out for seeker. She had talked about it so passionately then. Rose had never expected for her to be good at flying or Quidditch, anyway. "I got in the dueling club and then realized I wasn't allowed to do both, so I never tried out for seeker," she explained. "I like it better on the ground anyway." That was only partially true. She loved flying. But she trusted herself more on the ground- it was complicated.
"Am I allowed to know why you decided to duel instead of play Quidditch?"
No problem!

Henry acknowledged her comment on him liking history of magic which was odd for a student to say but he was always odd, for a boy who grow up bascaily alone with only their twin who was the complete opposite of then their was really not much to do beside read. Except during the holidays when his older brother was home and they had their adventures and fun, Henry was much closer to his brother than anyone in his family given the large age difference.
Speaking of that reminder him that he had to write to Arthur to let him know that he was on the dueling team for slytherin maybe he could help him in one way or another.
When Rose said why she didn't tryout for quidditch, Henry had to laugh a bit as he spoke " your on the gryffindor dueling team then? That's bloody cool that were both on our house dueling teams maybe we could practice together?" Henry figured that he should be practicing with his partner but after their first practice together alone where Henry turned to facts and she went to strength, the two had a rather weird relationship at the time being. Henry then spoke again " do you know your dueling partner yet? They announced ours the same day we found out that we were on the team."
Henry then heard Rose spoke again and this time he had to think a little as he put the box of beans on the table and turned to Rose before speaking " I was always fascinated with dueling and spells, before Hogwarts I read every book I can on them and during holidays my brother and I would practice the wand movements and incarnations during 'duels' where we used sticks in our yard," Henry remembered how him Arthur would say spells at each other with sticks, those were the memories that the boy had as a child mostly of his brother. Henry pulled himself out of his thoughts before speaking again " and while I do like flying, I never been that good at quidditch anyway not like my mum."
Henry then ran rather a relaxed hand through his hair before speaking again " plus I wanted to do something new that no one in my family dine before, my mum played quidditch and my father was a head boy during their times at Hogwarts. Arthur, my brother was a prefect and head boy not to mention always achieved perfect grades so even through I love him there wasn't much else I could do to stand out. You understand that, right Rose?" Henry took a breath before continuing " and could I ask why you went for dueling instead of quidditch?"

Henry suggested that they could practice together. "Maybe," she said, not wanting to think too far into the future. She could hardly remember what day it was. Rose nodded. She did know her partner. "Eyre Reeves. We're dating, actually." She blushed. Because how teenager wannabe did that sound? She launched into an explanation. "I mean, I know we're young and all but... he's just super sweet and gentle and... I don't know, I appreciate him in my life." She shyly looked up to see his face and reaction. For some reason, she hoped he wouldn't think that was strange or obnoxious. Maybe Henry thought she was weird for that. But she wasn't the only one dating boys. Her friend Alina had had two boyfriends already. It's not like he could say anything that would make her not want to date Eyre anymore. After all, there were two sides to every story.
Their two-month-anniversary was in three days. She just realized that her and Eyre would be dating for two months officially in three days. Wow. She shook the thoughts away, carrying on the conversation. "What about you? Do you know your dueling partner?" Obviously, it was very likely that she didn't know whoever it was since they were in Slytherin and could even be in a different year than she was.
Rose didn't even know that they had fought and borderline hated each other.
Oh, how naive.
Henry went through explaining how he wanted to be different from his family, achieve something nobody had before. "Yeah," she answered. She really did get it. Her older sister was popular and loved by all, definitely the favorite of their mother even though her mother would never say so. Out loud. But Rose could tell. Her older brother, Franklin, was the smartest person she had ever met and his whole life was based on logic. She was pretty sure he had straight O's in all of his subjects, and was so jealous of that. Her little siblings even out-preformed her, being extroverted and loud. Some of her teachers had commented on how they loved Gabriel in their classes. He was smarter than he let other people know and already had a load of friends here, Rose was sure.
But none of them had ever considered dueling and so Rose had seized the opportunity. But that wasn't the only reason. "I get that. As for me, uh, a little bit of that. I told you I like Charms and stuff and I..." she trailed off, finding a way to say it. "Like, want to hone my skills, and I was kinda tired of being on the wait list for Quidditch for so long- it felt like it was never gonna happen. And the Gryff team needed more people and we didn't do so well at Quidditch last year anyway. I was thinking I could bring Gryffindor to a win better doing dueling." And plus, she had less chance of embarrassing herself on the ground than in the air. Unless she tripped over her own two feet. She shook her head, feeling like she hadn't explained her thoughts to justice. But honestly, if she thought too hard, her brain would feel like mush. "That probably makes no sense." She finished taking her notes, closed the notebook, and pushed it to the side.
Rose took her hair out of the messy ponytail to make it neater. This was the first part of the day that she felt like she could actually breathe. She fluffed her curls, noticing painfully how greasy her scalp was as a result of her lack of a shower last night. At least she had remembered to put deodorant on this morning, otherwise she would stink too. She pulled it up so that instead of half of her hair escaping, it was all neatly pulled away from her face.

Henry smiled when she sort of agreed that they could practice dueling together before hearing that her partner was Eyre Reeves and that they were dating! Why did Henry care about this, it wasn't like he like Rose or they were close friends as but for some reason Henry felt a burning sensation in his chest that he didn't show to Rose and try to ignore as he listened to her speech on dating and what not.
When she finished he did spoke " no worries mate, I won't judge," Henry gave her a smile before continuing " I'm actually dating someone to, uh Miranda Everest. She's a second year ravenclaw but we were close friends before until well... until something happened and now were dating," Henry gave her a smile but couldn't help himself from thinking about Miranda being on the quidditch team and him being a dueler even through they were in different houses, it was still rather a magick match almost.
Henry was taken from his thoughts with Rose's question and looked over to her with a smile, " uh Amara Dragamior, she's a second year slytherin and were not exactly friends but were both good duelers I guess," Henry looked away at the cauldron for a moment before looking back at Rose and smiling as she spoke. Even though Rose thought it didn't make sense, Henry got it as he spoke " no uh that makes sense."
Henry gave her a smiled before he spoke again " that makes sense, you want to bring glory to gryffindor in dueling. I get it, I feel like that's what every slytherin wants for dueling so maybe be careful if you ever come against one in dueling," Henry gave her a smile before looking back at the cauldron to ensure it was brewing correctly.

Oh, Henry had a girlfriend?
Rose smiled. She could imagine the lucky girl and him. Henry was kind and gentle to everyone, at least as far as Rose could tell. She was pretty sure she remembered a Miranda Everest in some classes the Gryffindors had with the Ravenclaws. "Aww," she said. That was so adorable, how they started out good friends and then something happened. She wanted to know what happened for them to start dating, and wanted all the juicy details. Maybe Rose was just a little too much of a romantic. But asking him? Psh, how intruding was that? "She must be really glad to have you in her life."
Rose didn't know and hadn't met Amara Dragomior personally, but they had some classes together as they were both second years. Rose's mouth turned up in a tiny little smile back at his friendly and mostly joking warning. "Oh, I will be, thanks for the warning."
Their conversation kind of dwindled after that, only broken up by little chit chat as they started to finish the potion. Thanks to Henry's skills, it turned out the way it was supposed to, and, even better, Rose didn't fall asleep in class. "It was fun working with you today, Henry. Thanks for, you know, putting up with me," she said as the class started packing up. Rose got all of her things in her bag and stood up, smiling at Henry. It had really been a relief to see that she wasn't the only one having a really bad day. "I'm sorry I wasn't the best partner today, but thanks to you, we did pretty well."

Henry smiled at Rose with her first reaction to him dating Miranda but also held back any sign he had to flinched since he wasn't that comfortable with those types reactions yet however Henry nodded at her next statement as he spoke " I'm pretty sure I'm lucky to have her actually," Henry the smiled at Rose as he got up to peer into their cauldron before saying " and Eyre is lucky to have someone has kind and beautiful as you Rose," Henry smiled at Rose as he remained standing and begun to recall the steps from his head for what they should do next in their potion.
Hearing her remark on dueling Henry looked at her and joking said " I hope you don't go against a slytherin because their I have to pick to cheer on my friend or my team. And I don't think the captain would enjoy me cheering on a gryffindor, " Henry then smiled at Rose before continuing " but actually it might be fun to go against each other and I hope we can practice together maybe?"
As Henry checked the potion again, he found it ready and as their chit chat started to leave Henry focused on their potion as he added ingredients and stirred. Taking a few minutes after each step to remember the next or if they were doing it right or what they could improve.
However when they finished it turned out pretty good to Henry's relief since the last thing he needed was another bad grade then another howler maybe one not when he was alone. Henry then nodded to Rose's words before responding " it was great working you to Rose and I should be the one thanking you for putting up with me," he gave her a smile as she continued before he would say " you were the best partner I could ever ask for."
