It was early in the morning, and the sun was just newly above the horizon. The temperature was a little lower than it had been all year, with a brisk wind that promised the fall of rain and possibly even snow. Thundering, grey clouds left the world beneath it dark and shadowed, projecting a tired feel that most people seemed to pick up. It was a dull morning, with everyone tiredly moving from class to class in a haze. Wren, on the other hand, was enjoying herself. The smell of rain reminded her of the forest next to her muggle school, where she would often climb the trees and think. It was the most wonderful feeling, and she hoped it would stay like this long enough for her to go outside.

Wren wove her way around the students coming out of transfiguration. She ran down the hall, not bothering to drop off her books, in the direction of the stairs. The staircase was bustling with students going to the great hall for lunch, and she had to use every ounce of maneuvering skill she possessed to get through the crowd. She had noticed a few raindrops on the window in transfiguration, and she wanted to get outside before the raining stopped. Reaching the ground floor, Wren turned in the opposite direction as the rest of the students. A cold wind washed over her like a wave as she stepped out on the grounds. The air smelled like rain and trees, and she couldn't remember feeling more alive since she came to school. Placing her books along the wall so they wouldn't get wet, Wren ran as fast as she could out to the lake. She had missed this feeling. The wind blowing in her face and the feeling of speed as she ran. She didn't really know if she was supposed to be out on the grounds, but she didn't care.

The raindrops were a little more steady when she reached the lake. Sitting down on a large rock, Wren looked out at the forest behind the lake. There had been one like this at her house. She and her brother, Merrick, used to explore in there all the time before he went off to Hogwarts and eventually became an auror. They would climb up into the trees, watching the forest animals and daring each other to climb higher and higher until they each the top. Every once in a while they would even find a magical creature, such as a bowtruckle. One time they even met a hippogriff. Her brother had come home for the summer, and the day had been slow going until they came across a hippogriff. Merrick had learned about them that year, and they decided to work with the creature. Eventually it came to trust them, and they would go hang out with it in the forest every day. It became Wren's companion after Merrick went back to school.

Wren smiled at the memory. It had been a long time since she'd seen her brother. She was still lost in thought when she picked up the sound of footsteps behind her.

Her last lesson seemed to have gone on forever, hands in her watch ticking away dreadfully slow throughout. The sound of the bell was a treat for Bella, after having a restless sleep the previous night.

It was a rainy, dreary day and the wind could be heard and felt as she walked along the corridors. Though students around her bustled along quickly to get into the warmth, Bella takes her time. The rain always made her feel at peace. It cured her homesickness well, reminding her of the cosy days in the cottage. Her fondest memories growing up, other than the adventures, were of a roaring fire and hot chocolate.

Deciding she would much rather spend her free time outside, she walks out of the large doors into the grounds. Walking along the wooden bridge toward nature. Bella cared little of the rain quickly soaking up herself and her robes; though her mind drifted worryingly to her book inside of her bag. Along she walked, taking in the cool drops.

Bella’s eyes stop toward a girl nearby, looking as though she was in her own little world. She slowly walks over to her, as she stood facing the lake, curious to know the stranger.

It’s nice isn’t it?“ Bella begins awkwardly, continuing with, “the rain.

"It's nice isn't it? The rain." came a voice behind Wren. Turning around, she spotted a young girl standing behind her. She had bright red hair and looked no older than a first year. She recognized her from the sorting ceremony, and remembered that her name was Bella Rivers. Wren nodded.

"Yes. It used to rain all the time back at my house." she said, her earlier thoughts about the forest near her home flooding back. However, she gently pushed them away for the moment and turned her attention to the girl. She was standing awkwardly next to her, looking as if she wanted to hang out. Not really sure what to, Wren moved to the left side of the rock. She knew she was exposing her odd colored eye, but she didn't care to much. This girl didn't seem to be unkind.

"You can sit down if you want." she said, gesturing to the other side of the rock, "Oh, and my name is Wren by the way. Wren Windgazer." Wondering what the girl would do, she looked back out at the lake. The many drops of rain falling from the sky were hitting the dark, glassy water and showering them with a soft mist. Wren barely even felt the cold air around her.

Bella sits cautiously down on the rock Wren had gestures towards, noticing instantly her different coloured eyes. It was interesting how one could be a different colour than the other, she had never seen anything like it. Deciding it was best not stare, Bella glances inwards for he lake and admired its beauty.

She listens as Wren talks of the rain and her home, realising the dazed expression clouding her for just a couple seconds. It reminded her of herself whenever she thought of home and the countryside. She seemed an interesting person, someone with a story to tell. Of course, Bella could only assume.

I’m Bella, Bella Rivers.” She introduces herself, assuming she wouldn’t know who she was. Bella couldn’t help feel slightly awkward, as though she had just intruded on the girl’s private moment.

I’ve always loved the rain too, I’ve always found it peaceful.” a smile escapes as Bella thinks of reading her favourite book while rain falls down elegantly on down her window. Those were the days she treasured the most, the days she was most at peace. She would spend all day reading and into the night, with her father always having to force her to stop.

She sighs quietly, the thoughts making her happy as she looks back to the lake.

"I've always loved the rain too, I've always found it peaceful." said Bella, looking out towards the lake. Wren could tell she had seen her odd-colored eye, but decided that she didn't really care like usual. She seemed nice, not the time of person to make mean comments about it.

"Mainly it reminds me of the forest back at my house, so I guess that's why I like it. I used to go climbing all the time there, mostly with my brother. Well, until he went away to Hogwarts. Now he's an auror, so he's not home very often," she paused, her thoughts wandering to her brother. The last time she had seen him was a few months before she started at Hogwarts, but it still felt like ages ago. She found herself really missing him, and had to push the thoughts away.

"What about you? Do you have siblings or something?" continued Wren, surprising even herself. It was very rare that she talked with someone like they were her friend, especially when she barely knew them. Mostly she was off by herself, completely content with being alone and away from people. Lots of people wouldn’t like being alone all the time, but Wren had always found it enjoyable. Giving herself a little shake, she turned to face Bella.

Sorry if it takes me a little bit to reply. I have been really busy and now I'm also doing the NaNoWriMo, so it might be a little bit in between responses.

Bella stays sitting down, watching the rain and listening to her talk of her home life. It was brief, but it seemed Wren was close to her brother and not seeing him as often saddened her deeply. There were a lot of times Bella wished she had a sibling, being an only child gets lonely. There were perks to it, which she was grateful for; like when her father would make her birthday a big celebration, how he would treat her every Friday with her favourite meal.

"I'm actually an only child, but, I'm really close to my father." Bella explains, avoiding the subject of her mother. Though it was easy to talk to Wren, Bella still wanted to keep that part of her quiet. A part of her she always holds deeply.

Sighing, Bella crosses her legs together on the rock deciding it was flat enough to do so. She let the raindrops lightly fall on her, relishing in its coolness. "We'd always go exploring, in the little village I come from there's so much to see." she smiles as she pictures her adventures with her father, something she missed doing. She quietens, smiling to herself and hoping Wren would pick up the conversation soon.
