Field Day | Magical Horseshoes PV Finished

@Cassandra Ironwoods has been skipped this round.

@Dealla Prince seemed to be riding on a high, and hit the ground running with her next horseshoe. Unfortunately, it seemed that she was a little too over-confident with this one, the horseshoe clanking against the pole and toppling to the ground a few feet away. Ami shot her a sympathetic smile and a shrug, unsure of what to say. After Cash had flipped Thomas' horseshoe away, Ami would've bet all of her pocket money that Dealla would've easily taken first place. But apparently, Dealla was out to prove her wrong, although she doubted that this had been the Ravenclaw's intent.

But @Caelan Stewart seemed to be headed in the completely opposite direction, with his second success in a row, earning him another break from Ami's aggressive shoulder patting. "Nice job!" she called over to him, flashing him two thumbs up. "Maybe you don't need any advice from me." There was no world in which any advice from Ami would be even remotely helpful, but a girl could dream, right?

After Cash's sabotage of his own horseshoe, though, @Thomas Baines seemed hellbent on revenge, although he decided to aim his fury at his fellow housemate... but not before he verbally destroyed Cash with some sick burns and mad roasts, bro. With the precision of a surgeon, Baines coaxed one of Dealla's loose horseshoes off of her pole and onto his. And frankly, Ami was impressed. "Tough luck," she called out to Dealla, who easily would've seen Thomas' rascally action. "Take it back, baby!" Maybe she wouldn't heed Ami's advice (which would probably be smart), but at least Ami was being encouraging... right?

Fellow Hufflepuff @Serena Bowen seemed to have quite a bit of success, neatly levitating her horseshoe onto her pole. She'd have to formally introduce herself to the other Hufflepuff later on in the year, considering that if she did it now, it might come off as favoritism. Another Hufflepuff, @Lucia Fox, also seemed to be riding off of her success, landing another horseshoe around her pole. Hufflepuffs for the win, right?

Finally, in the lead, @Lizzie Verdine landed another horseshoe around her pole. "Nice going!" she called over to her, although she wasn't sure what else she could do to keep encouraging the Ravenclaw. Turning to the other students, she suddenly yelled, "Do a trickshot!" she yelled, realizing that this would be an opportunity for the students to show of their creativity.
ROLLS
Dealla Prince:
Succeeded in casting (14) and spell strength (25) but failed accuracy (9).
Nick Stewart:
Succeded in casting (23), spell strength (11), and accuracy (24).
================================= =================================
Serena Bowen:
Succeeding in casting (25), spell strength (14), and accuracy (23).
Lizzie Verdine:
Succeeded in casting (25), spell strength (13), and accuracy (21).

Lucia Fox: Automatically succeeded in casting (even though I rolled), spell strength (22), and accuracy (12).

Thomas Baines: Succeeded in casting (13), arcane power (14), and accuracy (nat20). Due to his nat20, he automatically hits one of the loose horseshoes, as well as transfers it over to his own pole.

*Note: What?! Thomas gets the sabotaged horseshoe on his pole, and Cash doesn't?!! Well, Flipendo would knock the horseshoe away, and unless you can someone bend it like Beckham, it would simply fly away, vs. a levitated horseshoe could be controlled.

Come up with a creative trickshot! Regardless of how fancy it is, all it will do is raise your accuracy DC by 2. If you choose to do a trickshot, you get an extra point~ But if you don't, no sweat! Your DC doesn't get raised, and if you land it, you get your normal point.

What was the saying - "Pride goes before a fall"? That seemed to summarize Dee's current situation rather well. Just seconds ago she'd been in the lead, even taunted Thomas for losing a horseshoe due to Cash's manipulation, and now the tide had turned against her.

She'd blame her own failure to aim her horseshoe properly on Thomas, too - there wasn't really any way she wouldn't have noticed him stealing her horseshoe seeing as they were standing right next to each other. She'd gotten distracted, just for her second, and the horseshoe had bounced off the pole, which meant she was now at two horseshoes rather than the four she'd expected.

Fine, if he wanted to play dirty, she really wasn't going to judge, but why hers? Shouldn't he take revenge on Cash or something? Although, granted, Cash didn't have any horseshoes to steal. Still, there were a lot of other possible targets! But not as many who were currently in the lead. To be precise, it was just between her and Lizzie, and if Dee was honest, she'd have done the same in Thomas's place. Maybe she should be flattered that he'd determined her to be the bigger threat. She wasn't.

"What- The bigger person, huh?" she asked derisively. "I very much doubt you're the bigger anything." Dee's build could very much be likened to a twig, but Thomas was even more scrawny than her. If she stood up on her tiptoes, she'd probably be able to spit on his head.

She was about to just pull the same stunt on him - that was her horsehoe, dammit, and she'd rather have Lizzie win than someone who'd sabotaged her - when the older Hufflepuff told them to do trickshots. Trickshots? Why? All that would do was make things more difficult - but then, what better way to prove that the previous round had just been a fluke, and taunt Thomas while snatching a horseshoe off his pole, than to do it in an absolutely unnecessarily fancy and demonstrative way? Dee did have a weakness for theatricality.

So she aimed her next spell at a horseshoe on Thomas's pole - despite her goal of stealing back her horseshoe, she'd long since lost sight of which one it had actually been - with the goal of having it spin around his pole several times, gathering speed, before flipping it over to her pole in a graceful pirouette. How well it worked out would remain to be seen.

Nick held his breath as the horseshoe flew through the air, at this point if he failed, he wouldn't have any chance of winning. To be fair, he didn't have much of a chance now, but there was still some hope. Luckily, the shoe spun around the pole and landed successfully. He didn't want to celebrate too much, not wanting to jinx his victory, but the adrenaline was still up there.

Ami's encouragement had been cheering Nick up, and he was grateful for it, despite the back of his head telling him he should be embarrassed because she was only giving advice to him. So, when Ami called for everyone to do a trick shot, Nick decided to do it. It may not add anything to their scores, but it's better for her to see something other than just shoes doing a simple arc.

Nick turned his back to the pole, ready to hit it above his head. He assumed most people would do that, though, and he should add some more pizazz to it. It took a couple tries, but Nick finally balanced it on his head. He prayed that he would only hit the horseshoe and not himself, as Nick carefully pointed his wand at the shoe. He whispered, "Flipendo" worrying that even the slightest breath will drop the shoe. He then carefully made a swish and flick motion and waited to see what would happen.

Serena cheered as her horseshoe once again wrapped neatly around the pole. She jumped up and down, letting out a cheer. Taking a quick glance at the others’ poles, it looked as if she was still tied for second place.

‘This is a close game! Serena thought to herself. But that was what was making it really fun. It would have been boring if this was an easy victory; she enjoyed the challenge. Speaking of a challenge, Serena perked up at the yell of doing a trickshot. At first, the twelve-year-old pureblood wasn’t entirely sure what that meant, but after watching a couple of other students, she got the idea.

So, just add a little pizazz to the shot. Hmm, Serena was initially thinking about turning around, but another student had done the same thing; she didn’t want it to be considered copying. After thinking for a bit about what to do, it clicked.

Serena put her left hand over her eyes. Then, using her other hand, she raised her wand up and pointed it at what she hoped was a horseshoe.

“Wingardium Leviosa!” She casted. Hopefully, this would work, and Serena wouldn’t cost herself a point by trying to look cool.

Lizzie's breath got caught in her throat. She was on a roll! Everything she was doing seemed to be going right. In no way could the girl's streak be stopped now. "I'm in the lead." She whispered to herself quickly before whipping around a staring at everyone else's Horseshoes. Obviously, Lizzie was better at casting spells than she had thought.

Just as 'do a trick shot' was shouted, Lizzie shook her head. That was not a good idea but there was a chance people could over take her. She had to take every risk she could. Getting first place would be sweet but she would be content with second or third.

"Come on Lizzie. Focus." She mumbled while scrunching her eyebrows. Lizzie took a deep breath and grinned while lifting her wand, “Wingaridum Levisoa.” She didn't even know how to do a trick shot but it was worth the points. It was worth the money she could win. Maybe it was just some birthday luck. Sometimes things just fell into her lap without trying but the competition around her defiantly would not just give up like that. There was going to have to be at least a little push to win it.

A cocky grin on his face at his success, Thomas allowed himself a moment to bask in his victory. He whispered under his breath in excitement, the exclamation hardly audible, "Yes!" Though the Ravenclaw was overconfident, the precision he needed to successfully manage the maneuver he had just done was fairly impressive, and he wasn't expecting it to work as well as it had. After regaining his composure, which had been lost momentarily in his elation, Thomas cleared his throat awkwardly. "All according to plan," he rushed to clarify because of course, he knew that he'd find success.

The small wins were the ones Thomas cherished the most, oftentimes. Even if the Chess Combat event ended in a rather anticlimactic draw, his own personal victories as a duelist were enough to provide him with a self-esteem boost after the bout. This was another of those situations; he was happy to lose at this point, if only because he'd gotten the verbal upper-hand over Cash (at least in Tommy's opinion) and because he'd successfully swiped a point from Dee. At this point, even if he egregiously lost to another one of the competitors, he could say with honest conviction that he was satisfied with his performance.

Perhaps that was the case, anyway, until Dee quite rudely pointed out his... Vertical challenges. Thomas was short, a fact that was quite inescapable. The Ravenclaw could easily be mistaken for a first-year, or even a wizard not yet old enough for Hogwarts. Such was his curse, unfortunately; his uncle often said that that side of the family took far too long to hit their growth spurts, typically. It was a trait he inherited from his father, along with the fiery temper that made him quick to lash out when his pride was hurt. Stunned into silence by what he believed to be the lowest blow of all, a dig on his height, Thomas' kneejerk reaction was one that was quite a spiteful one in nature.

"I- Flipendo!" came the incantation, wand pointed at the horseshoe Dealla was trying to nab back. Thomas wasn't trying to wrestle over the horseshoe, oh no. He was attempting to remove it from play entirely. There wasn't any strategic merit in the maneuver, the only point was to get a rise out of the other Ravenclaw (and to feel a bit of satisfaction). After all, Thomas wasn't particularly interested in winning, but losing would be far more entertaining if he was particularly irritating about it.

What is the point of even trying when none of their previous attempts always end up failed them. That was why when the previous round rolled in, the green eyes did not do anything about their horseshoes. Cash sucked a deep breath to calm their inner turmoil. They need to keep their head cool or they will starting to hexed the player one by one until chaos break loose.

So far they are the only one did not score a single thing and it frustrated the second year serpent to no end. They could try to sabotage one of the player once more but then again it clashed with their moral judgment. Perhaps the sorting head sorted them into the wrong house but on the other hand, to get things done they did not mind to be cunning.

Cash look at Lizzie, they are happy and proud of her. Cash did not know Lizzie is so suave regarding spell casting and from where they stand Lizzie is taking the lead from the get go but Cash need to gain a point into their horseshoes. "Flipendo!"They stated. Focusing their green eyes, they aimed to one of the pole and hoping this time around they could gain something.

If not, well they definitely will start to hex the other player one by one.

Ami's promise of extra points for a trickshot seemed to motivate the students to motivate the participants as their eyes lit up, obviously determined to do well and to nab that extra point. However, after his couple of successes, @Caelan Stewart's wand seemed to throw a temper tantrum once more, stubbornly refusing to cast the Knockback Jinx correctly. Unfortunately, Nick would get a sudden flashback to his very first attempt at the beginning of this game, with the horseshoe wiggling half-heartedly in his hand.

On the other hand, @Lizzie Verdine managed to impale yet another horseshoe into the ground, earning her a look of immense respect from Ami. "Holy cow!" she exclaimed, staring at her in surprise. "Jeez... that's ridiculous. I could never do that." And truly, she was quite impressed at the sheer power behind the young Ravenclaw's spells, making a mental note to never get on her bad side. @Serena Bowen also seemed to be having good luck with her horseshoe, even managing to hit it with one of her eyes closed. There was probably some sort of joke to be made about the task being so easy she could do it with her eyes closed, but the moment passed before Ami would comment on it properly.

However, her victory seemed to be short lived as another spell flew through the air, this time from @Cassandra Ironwoods as she attempted to knock one of Lizzie's horseshoes away. Unfortuantely for her, the horseshoe she hit was one of the two that were stuck in the ground from the strength of Lizzie's spells, and she was nowhere near powerful enough to pull them back out. Both Lizzie and Ami would see her cast it, and Ami quickly backed out of the way in case Lizzie wanted to yell at Cash, or something.

But Cash didn't seem to be the only person with sabotage on their mind. @Dealla Prince aimed right for one of @Thomas Baines' horseshoes, neatly levitating it through their air, the horseshoes pirouetting onto her own pole like a miniature ballerina. However, Thomas wasn't one to stand idly by while someone took what was most rightfully his. Leaping into action, he roared the incantation for the Knockback Jinx in an effort to knock the horseshoe out of Dealla's magical grasp, but instead, he merely knocked another one of his own horseshoes away. It seemed that Dealla had emerged the victor from this little scuffle between the Ravenclaws.

Hearing the great clock chime in the distance from the castle, Ami jumped slightly, glancing around nervously. "Thirty more seconds, guys... thirty more seconds! Last chance to get those horseshoes on your pole!"

"I did it again." She breathed out quickly while widening her eyes slightly. Lizzie was defiantly going to have a small party with herself after it all was finished. By the odds of everything and the points everyone else had, Lizzie was either going to get first or second which was good either way. It was a win in her books! Even if her accuracy kept failing the points counted.

A spell was shouted next to her quickly, Lizzie turned around swiftly and gasped. Cassie was stood there, wand in hand, trying to sabotage her. It had not worked as she had hit the one horseshoe that was stuck in the ground. "Cassie! What was that for?" She said, "The one time I have a chance at winning something and you try sabotage me?" Lizzie growled and furrowed her eyebrows.

"Next time, why don't you try worry about yourself more than about other people." Lizzie raised her voice slightly, "Maybe then you would have a chance at winning." She gestured to the poles that had no horseshoes hung around them. Lizzie was not happy at all. They used to be best friends and that action would defiantly put a strain on trying to get the friendship tied back together.

She sighed and shook her head before turning back to her poles. "Whatever. I'll just focus on mine." There was no point in her trying to sabotage Cassie when they literally had nothing on them. Lizzie lifted her wand for the last time and whispered, "Wingardium Leviosa." She really hoped it would be a good cast.

Nick was back to the beginning of the round. It hadn't even that he had failed to aim his trickshot accurately, he just couldn't even do it because his wand hadn't even cast. He looked around at everyone else, and most people had gotten at least three and they were reving up for more. He only had two, which meant that there was no chance of him even getting third.

As the horseshoe on his head fell to the ground, Nick looked to his wand that had failed him this entire game. It was ash wood, so it was stubborn as a mule, just like him. He decided that if it didn't want to help him, he would see if it would prefer to be a troublemaker. It would be such a shame with all these Knockback Jinxes being fired, one of them were to hit a student instead of a horseshoe.

Nick looked around at the students to see who he should target. Obviously, the blonde girl with five horseshoes on her pole, one of which came from an awesome trickshot, would be who most people would go for, but Nick wasn't doing this for strategy. He wanted to cause chaos and that girl had been minding her business the entire round and seemed pretty nice. Cash was out of the question too, since they were his friend.

No, Nick's eyes fell on the brunette boy and girl who had been fighting each other's horseshoes the entire time. The boy only had one shoe left on his pole, so Nick would feel bad hitting him. So that girl would be Nick's unlucky target. Pointing his wand at the girl, he whispered, "Flipendo" while making a swish and flick motion. Hopefully his wand will be more inclined to hit humans rather than shoes.
