For being a Saturday, Hogwarts was overflowing with students. With three extra schools being present, there were people everywhere. The normally quiet school was louder than normal with everyone making new friends and attempting to find dates for the ball in a week. Logan was not one of those students.

Even though she had promised herself she was going to make friends this year, this was not how she had imagined it. She was overwhelmed with how many people there were and how social many of the people were being. That is why she was not in the school.

The young Hufflepuff was out on the grounds, finding a quiet spot where it was quiet and she was able to read her book in peace. She was sitting against the base of a smaller tree, far enough from Hogwarts that it was mostly quiet, but close enough she was able to yell for help if it was needed. In her lap was a copy of 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.' She had never read the book before, but had found it in the library and decided it was something different and new.

Even with it being only 48 degrees out, Logan enjoyed the outdoors and fall. The leaves were slowly falling from the trees, causing a pattern of gold and orange across the grounds. It also gave her an excuse to wear her sweaters, as well as sit in front of the fire in the common room and drink a cup of hot tea.

Sylvie loved the outdoors. The rooms and corridors of Hogwarts were a bit stuffy for her taste, and catching only glimpses of the blue sky wasn't enough for her. She wanted to be running through the grass, watching birds fly by far overhead. Breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the sunlight. Even though the castle was fascinating to explore, it wasn't the outdoors. And never would be.

This mind set of course meant it wasn't long before she left the stone halls in favor of no halls at all. Just freedom, unchanged. Well, the rule against going into the Forbidden Forest was a bit too close to a rule for her taste, but at least it made sense. Sylvie didn't intend on getting eaten anytime soon, at least not before she had a chance to enjoy her life.

Still...she couldn't help but cast a lone glance at the dense forest, wondering what it would be like to walk between the thick trunks and under the leaf-dappled shadows. ...And now she was back to firmly ignoring it.

"Juste concentre sur la soleil..." Sylvie muttered to herself, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Sur le gazon sou mes pieds et la vent dans l'air. Pas le foret."

Fortunately, her near silent pep talk seemed to work...more or less. Instead, she focused on some of the more nearby trees, catching a few falling leaves before leaving them to float back down to the ground. Fall was one of her favourite seasons, because of all the colours, and the cool, crisp air. She also liked winter for the snow it gave, which was plenty of fun to play with, and spring was absolutely beautiful, with its green shoots and baby animals. Summer was nice and warm, perfect for playing with water or sunbathing, and...well, it seemed like all of the seasons were her favorited. But fall was her favourite right now, because it was the one currently happening.

Still grinning ridiculously, Sylvive headed closer to a smaller tree, a handful of orange and yellow leaves clitched tightly in her hand. She'd spotted smorons leaning against the trunk, and of course she was curious as to what they were doing. It looked like they had a book...? Sylvia didn't really like reading, but maybe the girl would be okay with talking to her for a bit? And maybe they could be friends!

"Salut!" Sylvie exclaimed, bounding over and taking a seat on the grass opposite the girl without invitation. "Je m'appele Sylvie! C'est qui ton nom?" In her excitement, she completely forgot she was talking to a Hogwarts student, and that chances were that they didn't speak French.
1~ Just concentrate on the sun...
2~ On the grass under my feet and the wind in the air. Not the forest.
3~ Hello!
4~ I'm Sylvie! What's your name?

Logan had only gotten a few pages into the book when someone flopped onto the ground in front of her, startling her greatly. Squealing in surprise, the Hufflepuff dropped her book onto the ground. She wasn't expecting a rather excited French girl to sit in front of her and start talking very quickly. Listening to the girl speak, she gave her a confused looked as she slowly picked her book up off the ground.

"I-I am sorry, I can't understand you. Could you by chance speak in English please?" She honestly had no idea what was going on right now, but she decided she was just going to roll with it. Logan needed more friends anyhow and this girl was a guest at Hogwarts ,so Logan didn't have much of a choice but to be nice to her anyway.

"My name is Logan, what is yours?" She could already tell that it was something stupid to say, but she didn't know what else to do. The Hufflepuff wasn't used to talking to people that had the energy of both of her brothers combined plus some. Listening carefully Logan could hear the sound of a bell tinging above them. Luckily Sherlock was nearby, so if Logan needed to calm herself down she would be able to call the cat to her rather quickly.

The other girl gave her a confused look and picked up her book, but that didn't faze Sylvie in the least. Although, it seemed she'd forgotten an important detail - the brown-haired girl didn't speak French.

"Oh...sorry," Sylvie replied, looking abashed. Speaking in English didn't come to her as naturally, and her words were a bit stiffer, as if she were pulling them from deep in her memory. However, as she spoke, they got faster, and more excited. "I forgot most Hogwarts students don't speak French! My bad!"

"Logan's a pretty name!" she continued, her enthusiasm returning almost impossibly quickly. "I'm Sylvie Everett! From Beauxbatons, if you haven't guessed already!" Anyone who listened to her speak would be able to tell she was French, mostly because of her thick accent. Fortunately, it didn't obscure her words...much.

"You're from Hogwarts, right?" She nodded at Logan's robes. "You're really lucky! It's incroyable here! But also really big! Do you get lost a lot? I know I get lost...there's just so many places to go!"

Sylvie was peacefully oblivious to how confusing her onrushing words could be, and barely paused for breath between sentences. The only pause came after she finished speaking, when she waited expectantly for Logan's answer.

"Oh, um..it is okay." Logan wasn't sure how to talk to this girl, but when she said Logan was a pretty name, she blush. "Thank you," she muttered quietly as she looked at the girl again, "Sylvie is a very pretty name as well."

The Hufflepuff could tell that Sylvie wasn't used to speaking English and smiled softly. She couldn't imagine having to speak a language to someone else because they didn't understand your 'home' language. Even when she started talking about Hogwarts Logan found it rather amusing.

"This is my second year at Hogwarts. I don't get lost as often as I did my first year here, but I still manage to get lost every once in a while. Especially with the moving staircases, they confuse me greatly." Logan was actually having a good time for once when speaking to someone and for the girl being rather excited, the Hufflepuff found it rather easy to talk to the foreign girl.

"What is it like going to Beauxbatons? Especially with the Abraxans, what are they like?" Logan had always been interested in the giant horses, wondering what it was like to take care of such magnificent creatures. Her father had told her about them and had seen them once before, but she had never seen them and wanted to learn as much as possible.

"Thanks," Sylvie said, grinning widely. She fidgeted slightly, but not because she was anxious to leave. More like her energy was so pent-up that she couldn't really sit still and keep her words at a minimum at the same time. Thus...another onrush of words.

"Moving staircases?" Sylvie echoed, her eyes widening as she realized what Logan had said. "Is that why I can never seem to retrace my steps? Wow! I never actually noticed. You know, at Beauxbatons we don't have any stuff like that. And the Academy isn't nearly as big, so I don't get lost as much!"

She paused briefly to listen to Logan's other questions, then started up again. "Oh, Beauxbatons is great! There's so many thing to learn, even if it's not the same as Hogwarts. The building's nicer, though! Less cold, and more elegant. That's kind of the French way, after all! Elegance and comfort!" A second's pause. "And the Abraxan's are amazing, aren't they?" I've always loved them! You should see the stables back at the Academy! They're really wonderful, and sometimes the students are allowed to care for them! Sometimes as a punishment, sometimes as a reward - depends on the work!"

Sylvie looked around the grounds, craning her neck to get a better view. "But Hogwarts looks amazing as well! More medieval, but amazing nonetheless!"

"Yeah, good luck retracing your steps in this school. Most of the time you will end up on a completely different floor without knowing it." Just the thought of having a smaller school made Logan frown a little. It is harder to hide in a crowd when you are in a smaller one.

When Sylvie mentions taking care of the giant horses made Logan smile. "I can just imaging how much work it is to take care of the Abraxans. It already takes so long to take care of normal horses, let alone ones that have wings and are twice the size of normal ones." She smiled at the thought of sitting on the back of the majestic creatures compared to the normal horses that resided at her home in Perth.

"Hogwarts is rather medieval, I don't think much has been changed since the school was built in the first place. I mean some of the rooms have been rebuilt because of disasters, but other than that everything still seems ancient. We have enough accidents occur here that most of the school had been rebuilt at this point I am assuming. Does your school have as many explosions as ours does?" Logan questioned with a smile on her face. Hogwarts would feel so much different if there wasn't a fire or explosion every couple of months.

"Accidents?" Sylvie echoed, a hint of worry flashing across her face so quickly that some might miss it if they blinked. "I think I heard of that from someone back at Beauxbatons. They mentioned something about hags and a fire. And of course, there's the riots going on back home at France." By the end of her sentence, her tone had become more light-hearted, but Sylvie's eyes remained troubled, a fact she tried to mask by staring up at the sky instead of at Logan.

During the trip to Hogwarts, Sylvie had done her best to stray, not of any negative intent, but simply because she enjoyed stopping to gaze wonderingly at each and every thing their groups passed in-transit when able. But the strange thing had been the way the school staff had reacted - many of the professors had kept watchful eyes on her, even more so than usual, and their tempers had been incredibly short in regard to her wanderings. It had been odd, for sure, but she still had no idea what was behind it.

"Do you have any idea what they meant about that?" Sylvie finally asked, turning to face Logan. "You live here - surely someone must have said something!"

Logan sighed as she looked at Sylvie, "To be honest, I have no idea what is going on. I mean my whole common room blew up last year and I still do not know how or why it happened."

Tugging at her sleeves softly, Logan looked out across the grounds at some of the other students closer to the school. "We have stricter rules now then we did before. Technically I wasn't even supposed to be out here by myself, but I do it anyway. I haven't gotten in trouble for it yet." The Hufflepuff could remember the speech the school was given the prior year about the new rules. What was going on that was so dangerous they weren't even supposed to be by themselves any longer. Logan was curious to do some searching of her own, but she didn't want to get into any trouble and expelled just because she was curious.

"This school is full of mysteries and dangers. Just keep yourself safe and do not go into the forbidden forest. I don't know where all these dangers are coming from and why there are so many incidents occurring, but whatever it is it isn't safest around here at the moment." The twelve year old knew that it wasn't the best thing to be talking about, but Logan thought it was best she warned her new friend to keep her safe.

"A common room blew up? And they don't know who did it? ...Are you sure? I mean, surely someone must've figured it out by now!" Sylvie looked surprised and worried in equal measures, the surprise posed by Logan's words shocking her from her cheerfulness for a time. She'd had no idea that things had been that bad. Sure, she'd heard of fires, but explosions? That sounded much worse.

"Argh, rules," she complained, changing her tone suddenly to one of playful annoyance. Being serious never worked with her for long, no matter how grave a situation could become. Her mind just couldn't deal with it. Well either that or she'd never been in a bad enough situation before. Hopefully that wouldn't change over her time at Hogwarts. "Seriously? You always have to be with other people wherever you go? I mean, I wouldn't mind too much, but that sounds awfully restricting. Makes me want to go off by myself just to not follow the rules." She grinned teasingly, but her words rung more or less truthfully. Sylvie hated nothing more than having choices taken from her.

"Ah...so that's why the professors were so worried. They're an uptight lot, really. Always saying you can or can't do this and that." She made a grumpy face, trying to keep the conversation as light as she could. "Rules are for grown-ups. If they don't catch me, well..." Sylvie trailed off meaningfully, then started up right after. "But I get their point, sort of. Getting eaten by a hag doesn't sound enjoyable."
