"Lemon is the absolute best, isn't it?" Alina said, glad there were more lemon fans there at Hogwarts. Many of the students seemed to select the chocolate varieties on the table but she was glad to see that she and Katrina at least had kindred spirits in what they'd choose.
"So we're going to shuffle the cards and take turns so the cards can not only get cleansed for the session but they can get a feel for the energy in the room. Sometimes you'll be asked to split the deck into sections and then stack them up together. Order doesn't matter, just whatever comes first to mind." And she began doing so, handing the deck to the redhaired girl to shuffle for a bit before holding her hand out to indicate that she was going to shuffle them again for a moment.
"The Celtic Cross Spread is most helpful in complicated situations and to help figure out your inner desires with the guidance of the cards. You'll choose ten cards when we're all done with this first step." The shuffling.
"You certainly don't have to but it might help me to better understand the cards. Do you have a specific situation you hope to gain some insight on and feel like sharing? Please decline if you're not comfortable sharing. No pressure."
She finally spread the cards out between the two of them so that each and every card could be seen and had equal opportunity to be chosen. "When you're ready, choose ten cards, one at a time, and hand them to me." She would then place them down in the correct placement and could begin the Gryffindor's reading.

Katrina sat down and savored the lingering lemon flavor on her tongue. Lemon was the only strong flavor she really liked. She was a fan of peach and pear, mellow flavors. But then lemon was just the best. "It sure is," Katrina cleared her throat and settled back.
Alina handed her the deck to shuffle and she did so. With very minimal skills. But she managed to get it done without dropping the deck all over the floor so she considered it a win. Katrina handed it back to Alina and watched with idle curiosity. What a fun idea.
Katrina thought over her choice. Would she learn to fight or not? It wasn't something that normal people would be so hesitant and worried about. After seeing the bad things that had happened the past few balls, she thought it would be important to know. Her brother too, she needed to protect him. But she was always so gentle and caring to other students. Could she even learn to fight? Should she? There was also the trouble with Beckett, her only enemy, if she learned to fight, she could protect herself. But what if she hurt Beckett by accident or reaction.
"Oh, sorry," Katrina realized that she had spaced out for a moment, "Um, I was going to see if I should work on learning... a new skill," She knew being vague wasn't going to help. But she also didn't want the girl to be concerned and go to a Professor. Not that she would. But... It just wasn't worth it.
Alina laid the cards out and Katrina looked at them. She chose one off to the side, two in the middle, one close to her and one far. Whichever ones looked the brightest and unused. Or perhaps that was just her imagination. Who knew. Eventually ten cards were chosen and Katrina was looking to them for answers.

"Well, let's see what advice the cards maybe can bring," she said with an encouraging smile. New skills could certainly take a lot of time and effort and Alina could see why one might debate whether or not to start something new.
The Celtic Cross spread was one of the biggest. "I'll have you hand me ten cards, please," she said as she ensured that each card was laid out in front of her, visible for the choosing if Katrina wanted to pick it.
She then laid out two in a cross, four around that cross to create another sort of cross, and then did a line of four in a vertical line to the side. Each time only taking the one Katrina gave her, and waiting until the girl had picked her final one before prompting her that she could stop.
Her eyes did a quick glance over them before starting with the two cards that started it all. "Alright, here we go," she said, pausing to take a quick sip of her drink. She pointed to the first card located at the bottom of the small cross. "Take note of what you still need to do and focus on the things that will get you where you want to be. The reversed Seven of Coins points to a need for you to get real clear, right now about what success means to you and about what goals will look like when they are met. Be specific."
She now went to the card that rested right on top of the last one. "The Page of Wands indicates that you want to have more meaning and responsibility in your life. You will need more motivation and less indecisiveness about your path forward."
Alina now began to move to the four cards that surrounded that small cross. She pointed to the card that said The Magician. "You may be out of touch with reality and struggling to bring yourself back down in reverse. When this card is in reverse, you should take note of that which could be pointing you in the direction you most want to and need to go. You could be doubting yourself and that's totally unnecessary."
"The Seven of Wands is telling you to always be courageous, and fair, and kind. The odds may not always be on your side but you're more than capable of beating them. Don't hesitate to make where you stand clear. This card can indicate a change is coming, a positive change."
The card in that outer cross that was closest to Katrina was the Knight of Swords. "Be independent in order to build up valuable life experience and maturity. This card appears when you have some travel coming up and be prepare for the trip to take longer than you would like or expect."
Then there was the last on the outer cross. The Ace of Swords. "You are prepared for battle. You have great clarity on a situation and can argue your case with the view to come out victorious. The Ace of Swords calls on us to not be afraid to make a leap if its in our best interests. You have a pretty good idea already of what must be done and now the hard part is doing it. Start today."
She now pointed to the card closest to her in the vertical line to the side. "You have to weigh your opinions and go for the best one. When the Five of Wands appears, your need to believe in yourself is stronger than ever. Hold your head up high and have faith that you will end up in the place that is right for you."
Above that was the Energy card. "This is an Energy Card. When you have the chance, shut off everything that causes you undue stress. This card is a good omen. Take the time to think and think big. You can accomplish nearly anything you set out to do."
"This is Strength. It's telling you to enhance the self-discipline you need. When Strength appears in reverse it is an important indicator that you have a lot to be grateful for and that you should make a point in the near future to count your blessings."
And the last card. "All the events that are happening now are things that will give you strength and stability in the future. Keep strong."
She didn't know Katrina's problem to know how to analyze those interpretations further but she hoped it offered some insight. "Hope that maybe helped some."
